On an Earth decimated by war, a lone gunslinger delivers justice, protecting the innocent and righting the wrongs of a broken world. Some call him lawman. Some call him madman. Some call him vigilante. Some call him killer. Some call him legend.
They all call him…
...the Sheriff.
This is chapter two of his story.
In the tradition of classic westerns and set against a post-apocalyptic sci-fi backdrop, if you like Fallout, Firefly, Mad Max, or the Dark Tower, you’ll love The Sheriff.
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.

The Sheriff is back, and he's got a lot of new opponents to deal with. Excellent story, fine writing and a darn good yarn. Looking forward for the next book in the series!
I'm a big fan of these stories, but this one. hmmm
This was classic Sheriff Duke. But the proof reader dropped the ball. Too many simple mistakes. She when it should read he, or vice versa. East, West or was it West, East across the the river (Mississippi?). How fat is Huston from the River? O well I'll still read the next chapter of Sheriff Duke. Probably go back and reread some of the books. If you are new to these stories read the older ones first to get back the ground. P. S. Forbes is a awesome writer!
This was as good as the first one. I enjoyed the twist at the end. I would like it if you used more senses in your narrative. like: from the open field came the smell of something like a burnt out match. He tilted his head and the click of a weapon made him drop from Zorro. Better but more elaborate. Use all the senses. I want to see your world in my head completely. Jon State.
Enjoy the story, pretty good world building, but not enough western action for me. I thought the book needed more gunfights, and I wish the sheriff could’ve kept sweetie. Imagine traveling around with a bot who you can control that has your back. Good story throughout.
An interesting and satisfying read. The Author has created a group of characters where The reader can have empathy and/or sympathy for both the protagonists and antagonist. Forbes character development is incredible ! I highly recommend this book.
Time to move on from this story. Such a great author stuck in a seemingly unending loop of essentially writing the same story over and over again. I'll eagerly be waiting for his next new and original series. But until that time Happy Trails!
Post apocalypse old west doesn't get ant better than this!! Hayden Duke continues to help all that he can but the forces against him are hidden and their agenda is not clear.
These two Sheriff were great to read. Always some action going on and I like how the future was combined with images from the past. Good fighting evil in the old western style.
Great futuristic story. He cares for everyone else. They mostly care for themselves. It is hard to decide what people will do. Recommended for adult and teenage. Mostly clean, low cussing, not too graphic.
A Sheriff in a post apocalyptic world. The series is a SciFi western, in the traditional sense of Zane Grey. Excellent character, great dialogue, adventure and action. I'm looking forward to the next story. Strongly recommend that you read it as well.
This book was entertaining and a good read. The writing is done in a classic western style and is not deep. He didn’t wrap up the story a well as he did in the first book. There were a lot of unfinished threads.
Easy to read and understand. It is a bit simplistic and the Sheriff is simply too altruistic to be completely believable. I keep expecting to find that he is really a bot.
If you like the first book, keep reading. If you've never read the first one, then why are you looking at the second one?! Go back and read the first!!
The Sheriff is a well developed character with an intriguing back story. I am looking forward to learning more about Hayden Duke as I read the series. Well done.
