I fucked up.

Again.

After the demons confessed that I'm their Center - their fated mate - I ran like the hounds from Hell were on my heels.

But my demons? They won't let me go.

And maybe I don't want them to.

With the threats from the angels getting more and more dire, and my mom and dad making a reappearance in my life, this might be more than we can handle.

When new secrets come to light, we must decide if our love is strong enough to conquer anything. Because if there's one thing I hate more than secrets...

It's being lied to.

This might just destroy us all.

This is a reverse harem paranormal romance containing psychotic, alpha males, student/teacher relationships, strong language, and sexual situations.

I just absolutely loved this one.
Each book just keeps getting better and better. And the fucking ending what the God damn hell was that!
I needed to start the last book right away.

I didn’t hate the book but I can kind of see why many other reviewers rated it so low. On the surface it was kind of boring. Not too much happens until the end of the book and the majority is the heroine kinda sorta being in denial about who and what she is to them. I mean the cliffy from the last book was pointless, which was glaringly obvious right after starting this one. The heroine pushes and pulls and has out of control hormonal outbursts, which for a virginal heroine with 5 mates I guess I can kind of understand! I finally got to know one of the guys, shocker it’s the one off his rocker, loading razors in his Mohawk and whose fiercely obsessed with the heroine. The rest of the men are still kind of a blur to me which stinks as there’s only one more book. The climax in this one really did throw me for a bit of a loop. There’s a big secret revealed and then an issue with her brother that def has me wanting to jump into book three and finish out the series. No idea where it’s going but at this point I’d really like to know.

A little too much distraction of the main character

So the main character does some interesting and exciting things but she spends 2 pages of 3 total pages of the scene thinking crazy thoughts, frozen , in the middle of her scene talking to herself. There was tons of this, mental rambling is fine but there is a line where it gets too much and gets in the way of the story. In any other fantasy world this girl would be dust by now standing on a staircase berating herself for pages at a time in her head in enemy territory. Really annoyed me.

I actually have a few review copies I need to tackle. I had a few weeks without review copies, but now my planner is filled with quite a few titles again. However, I started a few series during these few weeks without review copies and I just have to continue those. One of the series I started, last week, is this Darkest Flames series by Katie May and Ann Denton. And since I really loved the first book, I decided those review copies could wait another day.

This second book quite clearly focusses on the bond between our heroine and her demons. Each and every one of the demons gets a moment to shine and a moment to grow closer, both emotionally and physically, to our heroine. I think there are hardly any scenes where our heroine isn't with one of her demons and most chapters from the demons' point of view were also clearly about their relationship with our heroine.

That means that the bigger story arc, where the angels are fighting the demons and vice versa, takes a back seat. In the beginning of the book one of the demons gets attacked and by the end of the book we still don't know who exactly did it. However, after all the emotional bonding and us getting more and more invested in this harem, the finale is a breathtaking amazing one, although it's also a little heartbreaking. However, not as heartbreaking as the cliffhanger.

One of the main reasons that cliffhanger is so heartbreaking, and I'm getting so invested in this harem, is the heroine of this story. She has an amazing personality. She's intelligent, she's selfless, she's caring and she's not afraid to fight for the people she loves and cares about. On top of that she's not afraid to show her emotions. She cries, she screams, she hides, she runs. And it's quite clear that she is gonna face quite a few challenges in the last book of this series.

I can't wait to read how it all ends!

OMG you need this series in your life

Where do I start?! First this book is amazing. . .I finished in less then a day because I couldn't put it down.

This book starts off with a angel/demon fight that scares Katrina in more ways then one. She works threw them throughout the book and gets in a really good place with her murder of demons until an epic fight reviels a old wound that has not healed.

I will admit that I was so in love with the demons that I was thinking that they could do no wrong but these two authors are skilled at what they do and open the onion for you slowly. I can't wait for the next book!!!

GET THIS BOOK - you won't regret it!!!!

Must read

You know a book will be AMAZING if you see Katie May or Ann Denton's name on it. Seeing their names together on one book is out of this world. This book was amazing! It was steamy, intense and so so funny. I highly recommend this book and everything they have ever written.

DNF - quit at 57%
I read book 1 -a while back, but neglected to write a review, so can’t remember how I felt about it other than I was willing to read book 2. But this book just wasn’t holding my attention enough to want to even finish it. The story felt disjointed in a lot of places -just not moving smoothly/cohesively (maybe the 2 authors writing style not blending well?), and the humor was a bit odd. I felt like it was either childish humor &/or guy humor at times, that I just couldn’t appreciate. I didn’t feel a connection with the main characters to want to continue reading about them. The demons of her murder/RH just seemed a bit too psychotic to much of the time.

At my age (approaching 60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

This book was so confusing that I finished only by pure will. The prologue is really the start of the story, and doesn't give any extra info or link to book 1. We finished book 1 where Katrina left the demons for their safety, and we start book 2 with them being affectionate with each other. It's just plain confusing. How did everything change suddenly? IU also didn't like how almost every chapter was from a different POV. I usually like multiple POV in a book, but in this they just added to the confusion.

I really enjoyed the first book but skimmed this book just to finish it. I loved the character's personalities but there was just something about the storyline that fell off for me. I normally don't read novella's because they aren't crucial to the main story but in this case, if you don't read the novella, then you're completely lost for the first half of the book. I did not like that at all. A chunk of the story was missing. It felt like the story needed to be rushed up and that's what the novella was created for. I didn't read the last book.

Welp. I had a feeling I wouldn’t like this second book as much as the first since it started out so fucking weird and nonsensical.
The prologue is them at a Halloween dance together messing around….when the first book ended with Kat leaving them for their own protection. And then she..leaves them…again? It was so confusing and I literally went back and forth between the cover and the first chapter and seeing if I missed something. I even checked to make sure I hadn’t skipped to the wrong book. Nope. It just started like with zero explanation and then continued on like it made any sense at all.

After getting over that little shitshow, I was pretty excited honestly, because we got all the guys’ POVs in this book. I love that shit. It’s my absolute preference. And I definitely enjoyed getting to see inside their crazy little demon heads. It was entertaining for sure.

I had a good time after that confusing beginning.
But now that it’s ended, I worry about whether the last book is going to be satisfying for me.
Their relationships are just moving at a snails pace for how many books there are and how many men she has. She still hasn’t been with all of them individually and the group scenes are more exhibitionistic than anything else.

I don’t know.
I’m a tiny bit worried that the last book will feel like the authors are stuffing it too full of all the things at the last minute, or it won’t have everything I’m wanting from it, but I guess we’ll see.

I enjoyed this book, probably more than I expected. Too many times, I feel like sequels can be fillers, but I didn’t think so of this book.

Katrina ran away from her demons after finding out she’s their Center, therefore making them vulnerable. I understood her reaction, especially after hearing so many negative things about it.

The guys get more of their own POVs, and I enjoyed them. They felt distinct in personalities. Their actions definitely kept the plot moving forward, and some of them, Akor especially, were pretty over the top and funny. Why do I love the psychos so much? Lol.

This definitely ends in cliffhanger, and I’m glad I only read it two days before the last book came out. It kept me guessing what was going to happen, and I’m intrigued as to how things played out in the last 25% of this book.

Katrina is funny, a little annoying at times with her humor, but enjoyable. This is a fun and easy series to read to just escape. I enjoyed that there’s no OW drama, no heaviness really. Just enjoyable characters!

I really enjoyed this book. It sucked me in just as much as book 1. If anything, it was even better. I laughed so hard, but it also made me feel all the warm and fuzzies as well as surprise, heartbreak, and everything in between! All of the guys are clearly defined and make you fall for each of them in their own way. The FMC is awkward and nerdy in a way that I identify with and I love that she is both awkward and responsible. The interactions with her brother really make me connect with her as my kiddo is around that age.

And the plot twists and mystery -- OMG! Not to mention the steam...her demons are slowly breaking her out of that innocent shell, and I have the feeling it will only get better! I can't wait to read book 3!

After reading the Pinnacle Heist series the genre "Reverse Harem" got me hooked. So I thought giving this Co-Writing-Series from Ann Denton a chance.
.. After reading the first 2 books + the inbetween book "Demon Stalked", I am going to cancel reading further.

There is just to much I don't like, even if I enjoyed the idea of the story..

First of all I don't like the writing style, which feels to me like reading someones mind.. But literally. You get every useless and dumb thought written out. And sometimes you don't even know where the inner monologue ends and the real conversation starts, since the characters suddenly seem to react to the inner monologues of the female protagonist. In the beginning I thought it had something to do with the demons magic but nope. It seems Katrina just doesn't know when she is speaking out loud or thinking, so neither do we.

Second thing I don't like are the male protagonists... Don't get me wrong, they seem to have their qualities and there were times I enjoyed reading them being with Katerina.. But they seem so flat. They all love Katrina because she is their center blabla. But they all act the same.. And their inner monologues feel and read the same as Katrinas.

The story progresses really slowly and the romances developed way to fast for my liking.. (R. I. P. Slow Burn Romance..)

I don't know.. Maybe I will continue at some point to read the conclusion in the third book, but for now I have a lot of other books that intrigue me way more than this.

katie may has such amazing plot ideas and great characters that i LOVE. so it kills me that her writing style always pulls me out of the stories.

her writing consists of so many reflections. all the time. any time a character says one thing, they think about something for a paragraph.
they consider their feelings, actions, what has happened in the scene, how the other characters look, etc., etc. and only THEN do we get to hear what another character responds with.
these interruptions mean the dialogue and interactions turn out stilted and boring. it's a constant repetition of "something is said -> a paragraph of reflection -> response -> a paragraph of reflection". the interactions NEVER flow smoothly and naturally. it also has the effect of the reader not truly connecting to the characters.

i considered DNF'ing this book but the story did pull me in after a while. but honestly what kept me going was that i theorized that the heroine would get with the group of angels they met. but now im disappointed bc there's only one book left in the series, so im pretty sure the harem isn't gonna increase any further.

I really like the story and I love the characters, especially Akor, but seriously why make several books out of it? It doesn’t even feel like separate story arcs, it’s just one big book that’s randomly separated in several shorter ones. Still, I loved it.

Confused

So the story picks up in a completely different place than the first book left off.
The story line is jumbled. But I’m liking Kat a little more. But now there’s a massive betrayal.

This one was different that the previous one and a half books. I am more familiar with the universe, I stopped confusing characters. But now I have more questions (some I'm not sure I want answered):

So, for me personally, the series took a little nosedive here. I hope I find it all fixed in the next book, though!

Book 2 of this cowrite trilogy focuses on building the relationships up and strengthening the center and demon bond, which was great to see, but I thought it did overpower the overall plot (the balance was a little off for me). I enjoyed getting to see their relationship grow and the steam/spice was just right. I just kinda got lost with the angel vs demon battle. I mean we get to see Katrina have some new discoveries about herself that make her pretty BA, so that was a ton of fun.

The snark and humor in this one was just as good as book 1 (sometimes even better). I enjoyed this lighter story, despite some darker themes. I did see the twist in this one coming from the very beginning, so that wasn't a shock but it was well developed and delivered. I really enjoyed again the relationship with Adam and the demons, he is so adorable and how calm he is throughout everything was priceless. The big scary demons were total mush with him ❤️❤️❤️. I was happy to see more answers revealed, people being honest about themselves and their feelings. I do want to shake some people though, some of the side characters are so aggravating I was tempted to forward through their parts haha.

The ending of this one was expected but no less NOOOOOO haha. I am glad book 3 was already out because I was totally invested and didnt want to be stuck in my mind about my favorite character of the whole series haha. Good follow-up to book 1, went straight in book 3's audio.

Narration was better I think in this one. The narrators get 4-5 stars from me easily, same comments in my book 1 review as this one. I thought the emotional turmoil in this one was done really well. the harshness of her parents, the reveals at the end, the budding romance and steam. So good!!

Loved it!

"[…] My bae (apparently, that means "back ass entry", as in, her ass is mine) knows me well enough not to question my madness." –Akor

In book #1, Katrina made the decision to distance herself from her demons in fear of hurting them after she discovered she was their Center, yet she soon realizes her feelings for them are too strong and she cannot stay away from them anymore.

(If you want a better understanding of what's happening between book #1 and book #2, you have to read Demon Stalked (book #1.5) in the Wicked Soul collection.)

I absolutely love Katrina, but sometimes there's a lot of inner rambling. This is probably how she copes with stressful situations (which happen a lot!). She's also a great sister and Adam is lucky to have her.

Still love her guys so much, especially Akor. He's totally insane but he's also really possessive of Katrina, which I really enjoyed seeing! I also love each of the demons' POV, I think this is one of my favorite things about this book.

I felt like the ending resembled a lot like the ending of book #1, that is to say that Katrina and her men are left is a situation which pulls them apart once again, especially after the big reveal concerning Kastros.

I cannot wait for the release of book #3 to see how they're going to overcome this situation!

Uhm... I have a lot of thoughts.

I definitely enjoyed this book. I had as much fun as I did with the first one, don't get me wrong, but I also encountered a lot more stuff that I didn't like. I feel like the things that didn't make sense this time around where overall more important (to the plot, to the characters, to the book itself) than the things that didn't make sense last time, so they weren't as easy to just brush off. There were more inconsistencies, more crazy shenanigans that instead of being just chaotic but still fun were a little bit cringe-y this time around as well, and a few contradictions that kept pulling me out of the fantasy-world into logic-land and had my brain going: "... huh?".

And all of that takes away from the experience.

Despite all of it, I still loved it. I still devoured this book like it was nothing and had a crazy amount of fun with all of the characters. Definitely reading the next book (which is also the last one! A tragedy, I know, I'm gonna miss my five psychotic demons like crazy).

I'm not crying, u r!

Don't u judge me! That ending was a hard one( no pun intended) to get through. Ugh I feel like my own heart is breaking! Ok so starting from the beginning, and what a start that was, I was excited to get more of the relationships. Although Katrina is still a bit insecure and sometime airy lol she definitely didn't seem as clueless as the first book which was nice. She is super funny and I just can't get enough of the crazy stuff she thinks and sometimes says out loud. Then there is all of the wonderful guys. Akor still holds a special place for me because he is just so crazy but all of the guys have opened up a bit more and showed more sides of themselves. That's not even mentioning the delicious possessiveness they got going on, can u say swoon lol I have a lot of questions about certain things that happened at the end but of course I don't want to spoil it so lets suffice it to say that I am super excited to see what happens next!

Not sure i will continue

Honestly there is a lot I love and a lot I don't in this book. All the different povs are great but its 75% internal monolog. And I love a well placed smut scene but there was so much I just started skipping them. There was no build up of sexual tension, no anticipation of the events. It was just smut every other chapter. I'm surprised the plot moved at all. As a pro, the little brother is my favorite character and I like the side plot of the mfc trying to keep custody of him. The parents are very 2 dimensional but I get that's their personality and that they exist soly as antagonists. But I wish the mfc, and by extension her harem, took a more active role in securing custody. All they did was react to the parents, instead of taking an active role in trying to apply for custody.

The ending of this book is just pathetic. Such a waste of life getting to the end and finding zero ounce of logic injected into the pages.

- 87% through the second book the MC announces she "just realised she was a nerd". Really?
- Also after already being romantically involved with almost all the men she states that sleeping with two of them has "only just crossed her mind".
- Then the "twist" at the end....and no one stops to ask the person involved why or give them a chance to explain. And even so, they all threatened that they would do the same thing at the beginning of the series but now its a HUGE shocker that one of them did. Oh please.

I got 75% of the way through, really enjoying it, but then stopped when I got to this line:

"Tonight, he looks like some K-pop star from BTS, though honestly, all those guys look the same to me."

It's a shame because I enjoyed the last two (1 and 1.5) enough to blitz through them. But I'm not interested in hearing that people from my race look the same. In a setting with enough fantasy to include demons, angels, and zombie dog people, I feel like we could've at least fantasized that racism doesn't exist.

I'm here to enjoy my RH novel, not experience the same microaggressions I get *outside* of my escapism romance novels.

Still slow but good

The 2 was slow, it gave a little bit more backstoring, which I personally appreciated, I kinda figured it was one of main male characters that killed her nanny. However, uh didn't know that the Manny was drinking, which helps alleviate some of people. His guilt on that back because she was drunk driving and you shouldn't do that. Um, I do I like that, she gave her some power. I don't know what it is. I can't wait to read, book 3 and say, let's see what the power is um. B. But yeah, so far this one like I said, still slow, burned, really slow burned, but it is getting up. Is it being better? Look forward to finishing this series on to book 3.

Read the extras mentioned at then end of book 1

I am slightly annoyed that you have to read the extras mentioned at the end of book 1, about the guys convincing her to go to the dance with them; Because book 2 starts after that. So if you haven't read it you'll be confused on how she went from leaving them to protect them to... where this book starts.
Now
This book moves the story plot along nicely. There's tons of hints and clues throughout the book that keep the reader interested. And the ending is wonderfully sad. Can't wait to read book 3.
