Matters of life and death in the Dawn of X! As the Hellions face the Goblin Queen, where will Havok’s allegiances lie? The Marauders set their sights on the power-dampening technology that has made its way into far too many hands — most notably, the Russian Army! When a mutant dies, someone must investigate in order to uphold the Krakoan rules of reincarnation. Northstar, Polaris, Prodigy, Eye-Boy, Daken and Prestige take the case as X-Factor — your new favorite mutant team! The Master of Magnetism and the King of Atlantis make for a powerful duo as Magneto heads underwater with Namor the Sub-Mariner! And when mutant babies go missing, Cable takes it personally — almost as personally as his complicated love life.

I’m basically reusing a review across this series, as it seems to hold as things go on. Overall it’s a bunch of highs and lows. Some books are consistently excellent (Marauders, X-Force, Wolverine, and it looks like X-Factor & Hellions will join that group) while some are middling to mediocre (Excalibur being the worst of the lot, plus Cable being so-so, and the main X-Men book varying in quality from one issue to the next). I’m still reading, so the overall whole is quality, and the whole setting that they’ve established is still unique and intriguing. It’s like a house of cards that we know is doomed to fall eventually, it’s just a question of when and how)
I think this is THE best DoX issue I've read so far. Outstanding volume! Okay so lemme walk you through it:
Hellions #4 : 4/5 I think this actually wrapped up things quite well so far my heart still aches for Pryor. And that's the best part about this series. The way you can connect to the characters is just remarkable.
Marauders #10: 5/5 Do I need to talk about how much I love this throughout the series. It's just so consistent and so creative. Every issue has just more to offer.
X-Factor #1 : 4/5 I'm feeling very satisfied with this. It was a re read on my part but the bases of the story are just so good that every time I just enjoy it more. This is gonna make some big things happen in the mutant world.
Giant-Size X-Men: Magneto #1 : 5/5 Ohhhhhh myyyyy goooooood! Was i dying for a good magneto centered issue? Hell yeah! It was awesome. I missed this side of Erik. Also the whole dynamics between Magneto, Namor and Emma was soooo satisfying.
Cable #2 : 4/5 Now say hi to the class clown. It was surprisingly fun. The humor was well written and right for the characters. I had almost forgotten that Scott had it in him. The art had improved pleasingly. Altogether I'm satisfied with the progress.
The last few volumes of DoX had been pretty good overall, but this one is much better. The Hellions story with Madelyne Pryor wrapped up. I still feel for her, and it could actually be interesting to see where Alex goes from here. Marauders remains solid, perhaps the most consistently great book in the entire line. X-Factor's first issue sets up a really interesting and obviously necessary idea for the team: they're going to be the ones who figure out if a missing mutant is dead, and what happened to them. This is so clearly something that needs to happen, and it opens up a huge world of story possibilities. Next up, a Magneto special issue, with Emma and Namor. It is, of course, great, and it gives a major spotlight to this new take on the character in action. Finally, the second issue of Cable, which surprised me by being really fun. Even Cyclops is fun when he shows up. Overall, another great volume. I am very nervous about where this is all going, but I'm still excited to see it happen.
You know, I have been fairly harsh on these Dawn of X volumes... But this one? This one really worked for me. I thought Hellions was a bit better this time around, Marauders was quite enjoyable, I *loved* X-factor (though I am not a fan of this artist's style as much if I am honest...), thought the Magneto issue was intriguing and I didn't hate kid Cable that much.
Overall, this may be my favorite of the bunch so far and I am really intrigued by this take on X-factor as it has some great characters. I hope they tone down Daken a little, but otherwise, there are some interesting dynamics.
Hellions #4: I'm warming up to this one--it's gonna definitely depend on which characters are featured. & I almost felt sorry for Madeline Pryor there at the end (also, when was she & havok a thing? When did I miss that??) 3/5
Marauders #10: Still my favorite title! 5/5
X-Factor #1: I read X-Factor as single issues. Love this title. 5/5
Giant Size X-Men Magneto: I liked it. Even though this is an extremely tangential title, just to hint at the upcoming Hellfire Gala, but still fun. I like how Hickman writes Magneto. 5/5
Cable #2: Liked this better than Cable #1, with the focus on the kidnapping plot. 3/5
This is a mostly great collection of X-stories about the continued evolution of the Krakoan age mutant community.
The Hellions was a bummer of a way to start. Apart from the basic premise, there's nothing I enjoy about this comic. These first four issues could have been okay as a five to ten page story in an anthology issue but it's far too weak to be a serialized story. There's always got to be a Worst X-Book on the shelf, and it's been consistently Hellions since it debuted. 2/5
The Marauders book has detoured from Kitty Pryde On The High Seas to Krakoan Diplomacy, and I think that's fine. I love Gerry Duggan's version of all these characters. The dialogue is great, and I'm constantly curious about where the series will go next. 4/5
The X-Factor #1 is awesome. On par with the beginning of Peter David's second run on the series in the early 2000s. I usually find the whole Northstar-Is-An-Impetuous-Jerk to be tiresome but Leah Williams makes it work. I love her choices of which characters are on the team and how they interact. The premise of the book, that the Krakoan community needs an investigative team to figure out which mutants are dead and in need of resurrection is also wonderful. I feel like it's been a while since I read one of the flagship X-Men issues in these collections, but I think X-Factor may have risen to My Favorite Ongoing Title In The X-Verse. 5/5
Giant Sized Magneto is a beautifully drawn, simply told story involving Magento, Namor, and Emma Frost. It doesn't feel necessary to the larger story, apart from showing Magneto trying to improve some of his relationships, and giving Emma a new base of operations, but it's a fun unnecessary story that flows really nicely. Ramón Pérez's art is stellar. 4/5
The book closes with Cable #2. While the first issue didn't impress me, I did enjoy Cable's interactions with humans, as well as with the Stepford Cuckoos. Even Cyclops was sufferable in this book. The two human detectives were probably my favorite bit player characters in Dawn Of X so far. 4/5
Dawn Of X continues to be the book lomg-term X-fans deserve, even its missteps don't seem as annoying, as they're usually buffered by better issues.
This was another mixed volume in the Dawn of X series. Stuff was good and stuff could have been better. Let's dive right in.
The Hellions conclusion was decent. It was better than I thought it would be. I am much happier with this version of Psylocke than I was in Fallen Angels. There is a bit of character development which I appreciated because the only characters I know before the series are Psylocke and Havok (and even then I know him as "Cyclops's older brother"). Again, it was a satisfactory ending with some setup included at the end. Mr Sinister seems to be in some danger from one of the most UNLIKELY members of the team. And honestly, I'm kinda looking forward to it.
Marauders' plot advances the issue of dealing with mutant power dampening suits and a small bit about Kitty's death and failed resurrections at the end. I know that they resolve the mystery about Kitty and her issue with being reincarnated in a later issue but I would have liked a little more but it was nice to get the plot moving.
X-Factor. I know the name but confuse them with X-Force so I am glad to read their own story. I liked this first issue way more than I thought. It was interesting with a unique plot and minor characters, most I have never even heard of, that get good introductions. Seriously, who in the hell is Eye-Boy? Now I know. The only thing that gave me pause was the art style. I didn't hate it but it was something you don't really see a lot so it took a minute to adjust to the style. I am still not 100% if I like it or not but that is something to decide in the next issue. This has the potential to be super interesting as they investigate missing persons for potential resurrection. Bring it on.
Giant Sized Magneto. Oh lord was this disappointing. I don't think they should do these "Giant Sized" issues anymore. Which is really tragic. The Giant Sized Jean Grey and Emma Frost was AMAZING and then the Giant Sized Nightcrawler was a disappointment and now this. There is set-up with not much payoff. Maybe in a later issue? The Giant Sized Jean Grey and Emma Frost had setup while telling a self contained story in an interesting and unique way. These last two? Yeah. Maybe stop.
Cable #2. Is it a kidnapping mystery? Is it a story about young love? Is it a sci-fi space adventure? Yeah. It feels like three different stories. Let's see where it goes. I'll get back to you on this one.

Hellions - An excellent wrap-up to the initial arc. Still getting a kick out of this series. Marauders - It's been a little while since I read this title, so it was fun getting back to it. Definitely prefer it over some of the other series. There are times when I really reading Emma and this was one of them. I hope there is some resolution to Kitty not being on Krakoa sooner rather than later.
X-Factor - The reason for forming X-Factor Investigations makes sense, which is one thing I like about all the new X-Men series: there are some series "day to day" ramifications of the new status quo and those are driving stories. Lots of personality conflicts on the team, which of course leads to both humor and good drama. The breadth of powers lends itself perfectly to the investigations part. I found it to be a little wordy, but that may have just been to show how detailed they can get when investigating. We'll see how this one goes...
Giant Size X-Men Magneto - another reread, but still one of the better issues from that series. Magneto is cool and effective as always. Clearly Emma has cemented her place in the Council. I think this is the very early beginning of the upcoming Gala.
Cable - Two issues in and I despise this series. The art is too simple for me and the whole "attitude" of cable and the series itself just irritates me. Maybe I'm just too old for it, because it feels like a series written for teenagers, but I hate the "brash, I'll do what I want" mentality of it. So far, I'm not liking anything that Duggan is writing.
Dawn of X (Vol. 11-16) X of Swords (full) Reign of X (Vol. 1-7)
** As a spoiler warning, do not read this review unless you've read all of the above issues, not just the volume where you've found this review. **
I did a massive multi-volume, multi-arc blitz recently and so I'm going to just drop a lot of what's hot here & going to be copying it down across a million books. My favorite thing literally is now and forever the Polycule going on in Summer House. I love his universe and am certainly very curious about the things still hiding in the shadows.
I'm glad Kitty found her way through that thing. I'm glad we didn't lose Betsy while we were in the other universe where death *sort of* sticks. Excalibur remains the most arrestingly gorgeous art. I'm still not interested in the one and only story comics know how to tell with Beast. I love the whole council and can't stop cooing over Erik as the Left Hand/Charles as the right (and even more so the bits where/how Jean & Scott are off to reform the X-Men #goodboy).
Jeanne & The Twins, in general, are back and I'm super duper in love with that. I really madly adore that there isn't any vast soap opera drama with any relationships or old bad blood that can't be given a new chance in Krakoa. There's such a breath of fresh air reading a lot of the choices Hickman and his writers have made.
Admittedly, this volume featured a nice mix of stories and I enjoyed it a lot.
The Hellions is still not quite there but it may find its voice. But I sort of get where they're trying to go based on this volume.
X-Factor was the big star of this volume, and with good reason. Giving them a very particular focus - to find mutants that have slipped off the radar despite all the powers of Krakoa - is a very smart move. I kind of miss the old roster, but I'm sure we can make good use of the cast they've assembled here.
The one-shot story with Magneto was interesting, but I'm more curious as to what Emma is ultimately up to. And the final thing about Cable...was still kinda middle of the road for me, or dare I say kinda meh. Maybe I'm just not a big Cable fan.
I liked everything except X-Factor. The art was cartoony, Daken was more of a goof than a hardened killer, and the plot overall just didn't pull me in.
Hellions provokes more questions and intrigue with the destruction left in their wake.
Marauders has such fun banter and a notable camp lately that is always silly, satisfying fun!
I am unbelievably happy about X-Factor! The original X-Factor Investigations from the 2000s is one of my all time favorite comic series and while it is disappointing Polaris is the only returning member, I adore everyone put on this team! Only complaint is Eye Boy's characterization does not match his latest appearances at that point. Once again Krakoa does what it does best with brilliant working of the X-Factor Investigations concept into this era of mutantkind! Im so into Williams' humor here!
Giant Size Magneto has 3 of my all time favorite Marvel characters ever having wonderful interactions to beautiful backdrops with my favorite animal all over, so truly an all timer for me forever!!!
Cable shows that the Summers family could not be any messier than they are by this point! The humor and direction is not something Im particularly interested in, but Im intrigued where this is going.
Hellions 4: Satisfying ending to the first Hellions arc. I'm starting to like these characters 3,5☆ Marauders 10: Still going strong, even without Kate Pride. 4☆ X-Factor 1: Don't know the characters but just like with Hellions it's nice to have some fresh blood so late into the Dawn of X. Nice set-up and story. 3,5☆ Giant-Size Magneto: Okay intermezzo. Pretty standard storywise, but i'm curious how it will fit into the bigger story. 3☆ Cable 2: I like the time jumps and the police hearings. This artstyle works so much better here then it did in New Mutants. 3,5☆
This Hellions & Marauders series is hitting my visual g-spot. Nicely drawn and good story. This new recreation of Earth 616 has me really intrigued rebirthing everyone. X-Factor with JP/Northstar is great as we unfortunately find Aurora dead and a new mystery unfolds. The Giant Size Magneto is boring as it's only Emma asking Erik for a new place; Magneto and Namor take on some sea witches for a new Magneto building on a secluded island. Cable issues ... love this guy! He's dating ALL the Cuckoo girls; a mutant baby kidnapping and searching for his 'OLD' body and arm.
At this point, I think that "Marauders" may be the best thing to come out of any of the non-Hickman X-Titles. I love that book. The rest of this collections ranges from "pretty OK" to "not that great."
Here is my ranking of the issues in this collection:
In general I love this series and what they are doing/trying to do with an overarching aspect/premise for Mutantdom. But I feel I must complain that Tina Howard and Leah Williams almost killed this for me. Are those two trying to BORE us to death? Ugh. Get thee to an Editor! Thankfully the other writers helped keep me reading.
Hellions #4 - 4/5 (ooh very interesting) Wolverine (2020) 3 - 4/5 Marauders #11- 4/5 Excalibur #11 - 3/5 X-Factor #1 - 3/5 X men #10 - 3.5/5 Giant-Size X-Men: Magneto #1 - 3.5/5 Cable (2020) 2 - 2/5 (meh needs more substance in the plot, also what happened to the art in the last few pages)
My favorite so far, mainly because of X-factor. Marauders is still great. Hellions was good. Nothing much happens in Cable. And Giant Size X-Men: Magneto seems to just set something up. The latter two being the weakest because they’re clearly prologues for whatever’s happening in later issues.
Now reading this in chronological order by issue, this is the next volume I completed. Cable and the Maurauders are fun X-factor is goofy but "Amazing Baby" is a quality dog name The magneto one shot is fine Hellions seems somewhat crazy as a plot.
I really enjoyed the Magneto tale…honestly Hickman does great with quiet moments. The Cable issue has me a little confused but it seems to bring in another massive big bad that needs to be resolved.
I read this in five minutes. Nothing much happens and most issues lack dialogue. Underwritten for comics. I would have really been upset to buy the magneto giant size as a comic.
