Kitty Valentine #7

Kitty Valentine Dates a Cowboy

Rate this book
SPIN THE WHEEL. DATE THE GUY. WRITE THE BOOK.

Six years ago, Kitty Valentine took the book world by storm when her sweet debut romance hit number one on the New York Times Best Sellers list, which was followed by a string of successful releases.
Her latest novel, however, totally bombs, causing her editor to suggest she write much sexier books.
To Kitty, writing smut is the literary equivalent of stripping. But with no advance coming in and her royalties dipping to an all-time low, Kitty has no choice.
Armed with a hot-guy spinning prize wheel, made by her best friend, listing all the different types of men she will date and then write about, Kitty will be spinning-not stripping-her way back onto the best-sellers list.

Kitty spins the wheel and this time she lands on... A Cowboy!
"Oh, hello." Hayley giggles. "Cowboy! Giddyup, little lady!"
"Gee, what a terrible job I have."

While at a fundraiser with her grandmother, Kitty just happens to run into a oil tycoon's son from Texas in NYC for business. He's sweet, southern, and extremely attractive and will make the perfect Cowboy for her. Kitty likes Paxton a lot and really starts to fall for him. There were parts in this story that made me wonder if maybe Kitty had truly found her match in this one...

There was a scene or two in this book that left me with my mouth hanging open. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I might have squealed a little. This has me even more excited to read the last two books in the series and see where Kitty ends up when this is all said and done. I can't wait for her to finally get her happily ever after!

If you're looking for a fast-paced, fun, and addicting series, check out Kitty Valentine.

Spin the wheel. Date the Cowboy! Here are a few passages!

...........
Never have I met a man I’ve wanted to climb like a tree while also wanting to cuddle and protect his sweet, innocent heart.
………..
His handshake is firm, his hand big enough to swallow mine.
He looks me over with his coffee-colored eyes, and his smile widens. “So, what do you do for fun, Paxton Cleary?”
He purses his generous mouth. “Hmm. I enjoy football, though in Texas, you either enjoy football or you’re shunned by friends and family, so I didn’t have much choice in the matter. I enjoy movies. Old ones in particular.”

….......
“See, that’s what you gotta remember about me. I’m not one of these highfalutin types. My daddy made sure none of his kids ended up walking around, acting like we had silver spoons in our mouths. We all had to work hard on the ranch and in the oil fields. I got to know the men I was working alongside. One in particular who worked the ranch taught me how to train horses for the rodeo. That’s more my passion than being stuck in an office. It’s something I took interest in and enjoy doing in my free time.

WOW. This is my new favorite of the series! This cowboy was everything and I love when the guy seems like a good fit for Kitty because that means we’ll be getting some dramaaaaaaa and this BROUGHT IT. Of course, no guy meets Matt’s level and especially in this one....if Matt isn’t the one I will lose it. Kitty is one of my favorite main characters in a romance and she gets better and better every book, she’s so funny and real and I somehow feel so close to the fictional character. Every time she gets hurt it break my heart but I know it’ll be worth it by the end! Only two books left in this series and I’m so upset over that.

Wrangle your feelings up girls and boys because this book was one of the more emotional ones. Kitty Valentine spun the wheel and it’s time to date a cowboy. Where do you find a cowboy in NYC? Leave it to Kitty to fall into the arms of one though. Paxton Cleary, tall, handsome, pants dropper southern accent and heir to an oil empire. He checks all of the boxes for Kitty. Paxton is everything you expect out of a southern gentleman and Kitty is besides herself. Yet her pain in the butt neighbor, Matt, has a bad feeling about him. Maybe he’s just being protective but it doesn’t stop them from fighting over it. Then Matt throws a wrench into all of Kitty’s plans leaving her to wonder what she missed over the past year. His teasing and never ending criticism was all for fun and caring as a friend right? Though a utter betrayal happens that leaves Kitty heartbroken over a man she thought she could have a future with. Yet it opened her eyes to see what’s right in front of her. Things are heating up in the series and I’m excited to see what’s next!!!

Well, there is a lot of action in this next dating adventure for Kitty and if your mind instantly went to the gutter you were absolutely right :)

Kitty’s next dating challenge is to find a cowboy. Lucky her grandmother has plenty of contacts and after taking Kitty along to a charity event she meets Paxton Cleary. He is the son of a oil magnate and lives on a ranch in Texas. He definitely fits the brief of a genuine cowboy. Giddy up!

Paxton is gorgeous, easy to talk to and lots of fun to be around. He comes from a wealthy family but there is nothing pretentious about him at all. Kitty enjoys showing him around her city and in the evenings they enjoy each other’s bodies - yup Kitty is getting laid by a hot cowboy who knows what he is doing.

Kitty always goes into these dating relationships with a positive outlook and high hopes. It truly feels like things could go further with Paxton, more than with any other guy she has dated thus far. She travels to his home state and gets to know the real Paxton, the side he doesn’t share with others. He loves how easy it is to be with Kitty and he has never felt so relaxed and at home with a girl before.

*I interrupt this review with a Matt update* OMG there are developments with Matt Ryder the hot neighbour that I won’t mention here but OMG! Here’s a little insight into Kitty’s head:

‘Matt’s seriously hot. Like, breathtakingly hot. That hotness hasn’t changed, if anything, it’s like he gets better looking all the time.’

‘...I don’t know what to do with the weird, fluttery feeling he’s giving me.’

Just when things look to be getting serious, Kitty gets a bit of a wake up call about Paxton’s responsibility to his family. There are expectations placed on him by his father that are not going to work in a relationship for Kitty and she has to choose what is best for her in the end.

Each guy that Kitty has dated so far is really helping her grow and you can see it when she is battling with decisions. She is making good choices, the right ones for her. Looking forward to seeing what happens with the hockey player and more hot neighbour Matt…. Can you just marry him already Kitty?!?!

"Sometimes, when people love us, they think they know better about what we need than we do."

Oh, hello! Giddyup, little lady! Kitty Valentine Dates a Cowboy. That's right. Her new hero has to be a cowboy.

Paxton Cleary. Huge, handsome, sophisticated man who grew up as an heir to an oil empire. That slight twang of his voice is enough to melt Kitty down to nothing. But, that infuriating neighbor! Matt likes her just the way she is. Sigh...he's trying to protect her. He's got her back. Matt doesn't want to see her hurt or disappointed. Isn't that what friends want for each other? Friend zone? Say it isn’t so! Matt may give Kitty a run for her money. He teases her and jokes around. Kitty still doesn't get it. She still doesn't see it. Matt. Matt Ryder from across the hall. Steady your heart for Kitty Valentine Dates a Cowboy! The ultimate betrayal will leave you completely heartbroken for Kitty. There are situations that require extra cheese and guacamole (remember, get the dang nachos!). Kitty Valentine Dates a Cowboy (really, the entire series) is perfect for fans of How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days!

BIG thanks to Jillian Dodd for an advanced reader copy!!

Another book, another date and it is time for a cowboy/oil tycoon! Who I hated troughout the whole book because he wasn’t the one I wanted for Kitty. 😡

I don’t want to spoil anything, but for THAT scene; Kitty I wanted to strangled your neck and slap you so hard for you to open your eyes for what is in front of youuuu! Hopefully the next two books you can appease my heart 🥰

My mind went into overload with how emotional this part of the story is.
Kitty needs to date a cowboy and happens to stumble upon one at an event that she typically can't stand put on by her grandmother.
There is some serious dating going between Kitty and Paxton and along with it, some complications.
I could almost feel everything that Kitty went through myself.
I feel like these later parts of the story are really action-packed and full of surprises.
We are rounding the gate to the finish line and I couldn't be more excited to get there.

Book 7 in this series sees Kitty dating a cowboy. Paxton Cleary, heir to an oil empire is charming tall and handsome and exactly what you'd expect from a southern gentleman, but Matt, Kitty's neighbor isn't impressed and they end up fighting about him. The story was angsty with some drama and twists. I liked Paxton in this story but he had secrets and Kitty has to decide what's right for her.
However Matt is still my favorite and I can't wait to see what's next. This was another great addition to the series.

Spin the wheel. Date the guy.

“Thank you,” I manage. “I’m not used to having a lot of people in my life who genuinely care.”
He’s quiet for a minute.
I finally look up at him. “Well? Did I kill you?”
“Just about. You must’ve gotten too much sun if you’re thanking me all of a sudden.”

Matt’s seriously hot. Like, breathtakingly hot.

“Maybe I want to fall for somebody. This is, what, my seventh trope? That’s seven guys I’ve dated in roughly a year. I’m bound to get a little black and blue. I’m bound to want to settle into something more with one of them. Why not Paxton?”

What is it with these men when they meet Matt? Seriously, he’s just my neighbor.

Darlin’. He called me darlin’., just like out of a cowboy movie.

“I guess it’s for the best that I leave you now.” He glances across the hall. “I wouldn’t want your bulldog getting upset.”
“He’s a good guy. Protective but good.”

That’s the thing about falling love with somebody. Their problems become your problems. Their pain becomes yours. And there’s nothing you can do to take it away, which is the hardest part of all.

“It only makes sense, Valentine.” He held out his hand. “Come on. I get one dance with the birthday girl.”

That scene with Matt and Kitty in Matt’s kitchen. Finally! I have been waiting forever for that! Kitty got her heartbroken by Paxon. I feel so bad for her. But let me tell you, I was really proud of her for standing up to herself. And the part where Matt comes into her apartment! Yes! I can’t wait until the next two books, Kitty Valentine Dates a Hockey Player and Kitty Valentine Dates Santa. I’m beyond excited for Kitty Valentine Dates Santa. Like always, 5 stars.

So, if I'm being honest, cowboys aren't my favorite trope. Or at least I didn't think they were. I'm not sure why, but I've just never been a fan of cowboy romances. That is, until now.
Kitty Valentine Dates a Cowboy by @jilliandodd, which releases tomorrow (12/7/20), has given me a whole new outlook on cowboy romances.
Long story short with these books, Kitty is a romance author, her last book bombs, so her agent tells her she needs to sex it up. Her best friend, Hayley, creates a spinner with a bunch of different tropes for Kitty to date, spin the wheel, date the guy! Kitty has made her way through quite a few different tropes and in turn, has made her agent very happy with all of her new content for her books!
This book is probably one of my favorite in the series. Jillian made me instantly fall in love with Paxton and his sexy cowboy ways. Jillian as usual, was able to make Paxton and Kitty's chemistry so palpable that you could feel the emotion as you read it.
I know I say it in every review of these books, but if you haven't read them already, you're missing out! They're all available on KU so run an grab them! Hurry!
Thanks so much Jillian for letting me read this amazing story you've created!

Holy swoonworthy cowboy. From the description of Paxton, he's every girls dream when it comes to cowboys. There's something sexy about a southern accent and being called darlin.

On the other hand, finally Matt makes a move. I was so excited and then completely let down. How can Kitty be so naive!? I'm not sure how she didn't pick up on his behavior sooner. I can't wait to see where this goes.

I seriously couldn't get enough of Kitty's mission to find her one true love. This book was so good just like the previous ones. This time it's with a cowboy. Paxton is funny and sweet and great for her in terms of everything. I was swooning over him. Couldn't recommend this one enough! I can't wait to read the next one now!

Y'all, this one really tugged at my heart strings. Not exactly sure how Jillian makes us root for Kitty & each one of her dates, but she does. Paxton is by far my favorite of her dates! He's a good ol' southern boy with an accent that will make you swoon 😍 Kitty is such a worrier & can be pretty oblivious to things sometimes, but she keeps us laughing! And you can always count on her grandmother to keep things real. Matt's teasing & his need to protect her are so endearing. Are we getting closer to #teammatt? 😉😁

I continue to love Kitty's (mis)adventures in dating and "research" for her best-selling romance novels, which just seem to get better with each installment. In this story, Kitty's mission was to date a cowboy, and she was fortunate enough to meet the perfect candidate at a charity fundraiser she attended with her grandmother. Her love interest, Paxton, didn't exactly meet my personal definition of a cowboy (he seemed like more of an oil baron who happened to own a ranch, which isn't exactly the same thing), but he was certainly handsome and charming, and Kitty was quickly smitten with him. Paxton turned out to be keeping a few secrets from Kitty, however, leading to a crazy end to their relationship and yet another heartbreak for Kitty.

There were several surprises in this installment, but I was most excited to see Kitty's relationship with her neighbor/frenemy Matt start to take on a new dimension. I've always loved their teasing and banter and have been rooting for the two of them to end up together since book #1. I wasn't so excited about the way Kitty's relationship with Paxton ended, however. Kitty was clearly hurt, and I have to wonder how she's going to be able to put herself out there again after this experience. On the bright side, she seemed to be in a better place by the end of the book, thanks mostly to her best friend Hayley, Matt, her grandmother, and her grandmother's boyfriend, Peter.

There are only two books remaining in the series, and I can't wait to see what's in store for Kitty and her friends. I highly recommend "Kitty Valentine Dates a Cowboy" and its predecessors for all fans of chick lit and romantic comedy.

The adventures of Kitty Valentine continue in book 7 of the Kitty Valentine series! It’s time for Kitty’s next book which means, it’s time for a new spin on the dating wheel. This time the wheel lands on cowboy. Kitty attends a charity event with her grandmother (the one we all can’t help but love). While at the event she meets Paxton Cleary, a cowboy with lots an extremely large oil inheritance. Kitty and Paxton begin to navigate their relationship when someone from Kitty’s life throws her a curve ball that has her questioning her feelings. Paxton is going through troubles of own. Trying to find a balance between what he wants and what his family wants for him. Kitty and Paxton begin to navigate their relationship when someone from Kitty’s life throws her a curve ball. THE BEST CURVE BALL. The curve ball that makes this my absolute favorite book of the series so far and I’m only freakin’ hoping for more of it in the books to come!!!

I could not put this down once I got into it.

Our girl Kitty has to date a cowboy in this one and she (luckily) meets one at a charity ball she attends with her grandmother. Paxton is a Texan who lives on a ranch, trains horses, and owns an oil company (well his father owns it but he is the heir). He comes off as a nice guy (as Southern boys often do). Hayley and Grandmother are pretty into the cowboy idea as well (I mean same).

Anyway, Kitty and Paxton don't have a ton of time but they grow hella close. But Paxton has secrets. Y'all. My heart broke a little during some of this. I sympathized with Kitty so much with some of the things she went through with Paxton. But she continues to grow more and more of a backbone and I respect that so much.

BUT.

My man Matt has to deal with her being pretty nasty to him at some points. I think she knows the whole time that she is being terrible and she just can't stop . Which I feel because we all word vomit sometimes. But Matt is my fav guy so I was devastated for him.

We only have 2 books left until the end and while I want to know what happens I don't ever want to leave Kitty and Co. I'm too invested now.

Kitty Valentine is looking to wrangle her latest trope, a cowboy. I was curious how she'd find a cowboy in NY, but it was a completely believable transition and yee haw, this cowboy was rootin' tootin'! An heir to an oil tycoon, Paxton is all M.A.N. He woos Kitty with his sophisticated, gentile personality and the fact that he's totally into her. Finally I feel like Kitty gets super hot sex too. I've honestly been waiting for on her behalf! lol. So it seems like this trope may turn out to be "the one" until Paxton's family obligations pull him in a different direction. Enter Kitty's neighbor Matt, who if you couldn't tell by all the reviews, we are all rooting for! Matt never liked Paxton and he was on point in picking up the pieces and being a true friend to Kitty. Their witty banter and sweet friendship is so swoon worthy, that nobody is sad when Paxton rides off into the sunset. Get along little doggy! There's a new sheriff in town and we are all DYING for Kitty to realize it!

This was an excellent Kitty book, possibly my favorite thus far. The spinner lands on cowboy this time, and Kitty ends up meeting her cowboy Paxton at a ball with her grandmother. Paxton seems like the perfect Southern gentleman. He wined and dined Kitty, flew her to visit him in Texas on his private jet, and threw a lavish surprise party for her. However, as we all know, perfection doesn't exist and Paxton ends up having his own flaws. This book was fun and sexy, with WAY more steamy situations for Kitty, which is great (even if they are fade to black). This book also has an interesting interaction between Kitty and her neighbor Matt, which will surely leave readers salivating and feed our theories of Matt ultimately being "the one."

Out of all the books in this series... this one SHOCKED me the most. I did not see the “ending” coming. I say this after every book but I seriously love Kitty more and more with each book. (Sorry but it is true) This book had so many jaw dropping moments my head is still spinning. I can’t get over everything that happened. I can’t wait to read the next book. I’m sad this series is coming to a end because I have throughly enjoyed reading them. I probably have looked like a crazy women laughing and crying at my phone but this book was worth it. Until the next ... and by the way I am and have always been TEAM MATT

Being from Oklahoma, I was pretty excited for Kitty to spin the wheel and date a cowboy- a type of hero I am very familiar with! I felt like Paxton was a Ewing from the TV show Dallas and couldn't get enough of him. He and Kitty got hot and heavy pretty fast, but I'll admit to being worried for her. I had a feeling a big secret would be revealed. The situation with neighbor Matt had some developments..... and I'm still rooting for him! Looking forward to reading about Kitty's next hero, a hockey player, and then we get the last book in the series and hopefully a HEA for Kitty- Santa!

Wow, Kitty's luck is proven once again when she spins the wheel and lands on Cowboy and she knows someone who just might help her find one.

I feel for Kitty as she desperately wants to find the 'one' but has to keep spinning the wheel for work. However, Paxton is one she might not be able to let go of all while neighbor Matt does not like this guy at all.

It makes you wonder how far she'll go before she finally gets an HEA.

I really enjoy these fun and lighthearted books in a time when everyone is so serious and I look forward to seeing how the rest of the series wraps up.

Well Kitty has reluctantly spun the wheel again!! This time she has landed on (my favorite trope) a cowboy!! How does she find a cowboy in the big city of New York?? Well you’ll just have to read to find out!

Jillian has once again made me swoon for another man. Paxton was everything I wanted in a cowboy and more. I think I fell for him just as fast as Kitty did. But you know, up until I didn’t anymore😉

SO MUCH stuff goes down in this book that I can’t even tell you about because spoilers.. but just know that I am frustrated with Kitty && ready for book 8!!

Omg! Talk about some angst thrown into my little light romance series! This may be the best book in the series with major twists and tears shed. The cowboy has been my favorite, FAVORITE man Kitty has dated. I loved how he went the extra mile with her, the steamy scenes and how into him Kitty was. Of course, when things are hot in her love life, her personal life has some turmoil. Matt has my heart and he cares for Kitty so beautifully. This story was perfection in how everything moved the overall plot forward and I’m dying...DYING to see what happens next!

Paxton Clearly is her cowboy. He is a handsome, sophisticated man who grew up as an heir to an oil empire. Matt takes an active role in this book. I love it! Matt doesn't like Paxton. He is trying to protect her because he doesn't want Kitty to get hurt. Kitty really likes Paxton but he says all the right things to her but is there something else going on here?

Matt is the guy that teases her and is always joking around with Kitty. She sees it as they are just friends but is there more. She just can see it. He is like the boy in elementary school who is always teasing the girl. Why? Because he likes her. This one is sad because Kitty gets heartbroken. Will Matt be there to pick up the pieces for Kitty? When will Kitty see what is right in front of her?

Things are heating up for Kitty Valentine. You gotta love her romantic heart. The spinner has her dating a cowboy this time around. She puts her heart on the line and gives love another chance. Will this be the real deal or will her hot, swoon worthy protective neighbor change things up for her? You won't regret reading this. This is probably my favorite book in the series! Such a fun, easy read that gives you all the feels ♡

It’s that time again, yep time to go another date with Kitty Valentine, romance author extraordinaire! What’s up next for the ridiculously hysterical Kitty? Paxton the cowboy! This is getting so hard. I really really liked Paxton and if I wasn’t so invested in Matt, Paxton may just be the one I would pick for Kitty, but that being said my heart is dead set on Matt being Kitty’s match.

I absolutely love everything about this series. I know I probably say this every time but it is so different and unique and the characters are incredible and so much fun.

Next up is The Hockey Player!!!!

Wow!!! First off saddle up for a ride of a massive rain of emotions. Kitty lands herself spinning the wheel on a cowboy NOW you’d think wow that’s going to be hard cause you know it’s New York, but what is just around the corner could be her cowboy she’s been waiting for. Does it end well with him or this going to be another heartbreak.
