Klutz
633 books27 followersKlutz is a publishing company started in Palo Alto, California in 1977 and acquired by Scholastic Inc. in 2002. The first Klutz book was a how-to guide titled Juggling for the Complete Klutz, which came provided with juggling beanbags attached in a mesh bag. The book was created by three friends who graduated from Stanford University: Darrell Lorentzen, John Cassidy, and B.C. Rimbeaux. Since then the company has continued to specialize in activity-driven books sold along with other items needed for the activity. Not all the books are about developing a skill; there has also been a geography book containing, among other physical attachments, packets of rice corresponding to the average daily caloric intake among the poorest people of the world. Many of their books are spiral bound and teach various crafts. The items needed are usually included with the book, e.g. the juggling guide. The Klutz credo is: Create wonderful things, be good, have fun.

For any one who says books can never physically interact with a reader
(aside from flipping pages and slamming it down), I present to them The Book of Classic Board Games. Enjoyment and learning both come from playing the games, and they are all cool games to try. I especially love "hoppers"; it's kind of like Othello.
For me, this book also suggests the casual nature that books ought to be approached with; they don't have to be played according to rules nor sequence nor do they have to be analyzed, critiqued, and reviewed. They are games we play, much like anything else.

Provided so much entertainment hours for me when I was younger. I still love many of these games, but haven't used this book specifically in a while. Maybe I will start soon...

Checked this out from the toy library several times. Lots of fun.

There's a new edition of this coming Spring 2008 which I think is much better... but I must note that I was a consultant on the book, so I'm a LITTLE biased.
