This book provides a quick overview of Irish history, offering valuable insights for readers who may not be familiar with the intricacies of Ireland's past. As someone with Irish ancestry, delving into this history held personal significance, offering a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and contributions of my forebears.
While the wealth of information presented in the book proved enlightening, I did encounter difficulties with the geography and Gaelic names. However, this did not diminish the overall enjoyment of the reading experience.
Throughout the narrative, the resilience of the Irish people in their struggle for freedom is prominently showcased, with numerous battles, uprisings, and fights recounted. Despite the brevity of the book, it serves as a succinct yet informative primer on Irish history—a sort of cliff notes version—that delivers facts without unnecessary embellishment.
I found the book to be a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining read, perfect for a leisurely afternoon. It's packed with information delivered concisely, making it accessible to readers seeking to broaden their understanding of Irish history.

If you like history, you will love this book! It covers all the major happenings in the history of Ireland and it is an easy read. It is very much a survey of history, rather than a deep in depth look at everything, but I really liked that. It gave me everything I wanted to know, and a bit more, and it was easily digested. Some history books can be so boring and dull and this is definitely NOT one of those. I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys history and/or just wants to brush up on their British history knowledge.

Indeed, this book is an explanation of Irish history from their mythology to the Sinn Fein Political Party. It seems that Ireland has always been fighting, whether the British or each other.
The Irish Civil War (1922-23) was particularly difficult, claiming more lives than the fight with England over independence. The Anglo-Irish Treaty established the Irish Free State, as an entity independent from the United Kingdom, but within the British Empire.
One group of Irish nationalists accepted the new Free State, while the Republican opposition, opposed it because they wanted complete autonomy. The war was won by the Free State forces.
“The History of Ireland” edited and published by ‘History Nerds’ is a concise, easy-to-read, rather amusing overview of some of the principal historical milestones on the country. This is an introductory work that barely manages touches the surface of the country’s very rich and ancient rooted history. However, there is not the scope of the book to provide an in-depth immersion on the subject, but to attract new reader to the history of Ireland, a job it adequately fulfills.
This is an INCREDIBLY quick and undetailed book. About a three hour read. Good if you want a quick snapshot history of Ireland. Bad if you want more detail, or more explanation as to why certain things happened. It piqued my interest though! I’ll likely be reading more on the subject.
Book had some clumsy writing, such as using the 1st person right at the end of the book for just a few sentences.
This is a short, quick read. Think of it as cliff notes for Ireland. There is a lot of information delivered very succinctly. Facts without the fluff. I found it an enjoyable and entertaining afternoon's read.

Since I love history and part Irish-AmericanI liked the book very much. I listened to it while driving; I honk I’ll give it another listen in order to digest more of the place and people names. There’s so much I didn’t know about Ireland. The authors, the History Nerds, do a great job with their overview of this and other topics, as well.
Ireland has a tumultuous history. This book starts off with the legends of the faeries, leprechauns, and other visitors from the spiritual realm. It discusses the potato famine, civil wars, and rebellion against England. They are formidable people with a lovely culture. I hope to visit this beautiful country someday.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I love History and this was a great book on the History of Ireland. A lot of the information in this book, I didn't know, so I learnt a lot. I loved the Mythology and the culture. Great read.

If you’re looking for fact filled crash course in Irish History, this is what you need want. However that’s not what I was looking for! Irish are known for their knack for storytelling and this is not the book.
This was an enjoyable, informative and quick read. Since Ireland is part of my ancestry, it was enjoyable to find out how my ancestors survived and then for those ancestors to come here and find their way into me. Great history tellers, these History Nerds are. Great Book.
A brief but helpful overview of a large subject, showing just how long "the Troubles" have lasted. I was struck by the displacement of population by loyalists and the consolidations of landowners, much like the Clearance in Scotland.
The History of Ireland By History Nerds This is a quick but interesting review of Ireland's turbulent history. It reveals many heroes, villains, battles, and society through the ages.
Pogłębiłem dzięki tej książce wiedze na temat historii Irlandii. Sporo jednak jeszcze nie wiem na temat tego kraju. dzięki tej pozycji można poznać ogólny zarys historii tej zielonej wyspy.
Finishing this read today was completely coincidental. Nevertheless, I absolutely enjoyed this short overview of Irish history, inspiring you to research the different events on your own.
I had read two other previous books by these supposed history nerds, and they did not impress me. So I wasn't expecting much from this book, but I had selected them all around the same time at one of my favorite book review sites, so I was going to forge ahead. I am glad I did. This one is moderately better than the other ones, though it did have issues with awkward language and incorrect capitalization. I actually found it a fun read. I spent six weeks in Ireland back in the early ‘90s, going to school at Trinity College for six weeks in the summer. The book brought back a few memories of places I'd been and concepts we talked about in classes. An enjoyable quick read about key points in Irish history and culture.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I think the best thing about this audiobook is the narrator, who seems to be from Ireland by the accent, though it is certainly lighter than the ones I heard when I visited Ireland in the late 1980s. As to the text, this starts with more discussion of the mythology of Ireland, but I think that Ireland's history and mythology in ancient times particularly are woven together in a way that makes it hard to separate fact from fiction. I'm an American of Irish descent on my mother's side, and much of the history in this was familiar to me from family stories, but it had a surprising amount of information I didn't know from relatives or my own visits to Ireland. I felt the text spent too much time on early Irish history and gave short shrift to Ireland in the 20th and 21st centuries. Specifically, I wish more time was spent on the Irish Revolution during World War I. I took a brief summer university course at Trinity College in Dublin in the late '80s, and I remember a great phrase a teacher told us: “England's adversity is Ireland's opportunity,” which is what the instructor attributed to the timing of the uprising. Not much in the book is about more contemporary Irish history, like how the decades-long troubles came to a head in the late 1990s and caused a new detente. At least one historical fact was wrong. I can't remember if it was stated outright, but they intimated that Queen Victoria was on the English throne during the Great War. She most certainly was not! However, if you love or have an ancestral tie to Ireland, you may very well enjoy this audiobook.
I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.
This is a good history of Ireland. I did not know much or only knew bits and pieces of Irish history. I learned a lot but had problems with the geography and Gaelic names. I could have used a few maps showing counties, some towns and a lot of battlegrounds over the ages. There were a lot of battles, uprisings and fights. Those Irish vehemently fight for their freedom.
This is a relatively quick potted history of Ireland listing key events, battles & persons. It attempts to explain issues with the English & it’s misuse of Ireland. American involvement is only briefly mentioned. I received a copy from Booksprout & History Nerds, & I’m writing a voluntary honest review
