I absolutely love this series and I really enjoyed my time reading this book. If I went by enjoyment factor alone, this would be a 5-star review. However, there are some major issues I have with this book that tempt me to want to bring this review down to 3-stars:

1 - Way too short - Michael Sisa writes quickly so this could be forgiven on the condition that each release feels like a complete fleshed out story in its own right, which is my minimum condition for any novel I read, whether that's part of a series or not. Unfortunately, this book didn't feel like that. It instead has the same feel of the last book which is a series of brief adventures that are setting up the plot for things to come. It's kind of like eating a really tasty snack instead of a full meal. It might have tasted good, and you didn't have to wait for a full meal to cook, but it's over way to fast and you're not at all satisfied as you would have been if you got the main course.

2 - Underdeveloped - By far my favourite part of this series is the world-building and the ways that Lark constantly surprises the people around him. I have loved watching this overpowered magician use his superior knowledge and magic to make Blackstone Town and the kingdom ever greater. However, more with every book, this is cast aside as the story pushes him into a more traditional wizard vs evil storyline, thereby losing the elements that I feel made this series stand out. Worse, these new elements that are replacing those other elements simply haven't been developed enough to make you care about them as much as you care about other aspects of these books.

3 - Too much time away from Lark - Probably as a direct result of the previous issue, we spend the majority of this book away from the main character of this series. The opening 10-15% is spent setting up the brand new antagonists, and the closing 10-15% is spent showing the opening skirmishes of the coming conflict. This means that Lark is neither in the opening or close of his own book. That wouldn't be so much of a problem if the remaining 70-80% of the book was wall to wall Lark Markus, but instead, it is split over a variety of viewpoint characters that take the focus away from Lark far too much.

4 - Rushed - This is probably an extension of issues one and two, but I have to mention how there are a lot of elements in this book that have been severely rushed. There are a lot of 'reveals' (for lack of a better word) in this book that either comes out of nowhere or are climaxes to storylines that have been building for books now.

Overall Verdict
Ultimately I had a really good time reading this book as I do love this series and it's always awesome to revisit these books. But thanks to the points above, I finished the book feeling frustrated. In the name of fairness I'm not ruling out the enjoyment factor of this book which is why it still gets 4-stars, but I can't help but feel disappointed at least a little.

So overall, it's still worth reading, but I hope for better things to come.

Another let down

This is, yet again, another filler book. Somw stuff happened and a bit of plot was laid out but it was entirely unfulfilling and nothing of note really occurred. Between this and the last book, which was much of the same, I'm wondering if this is just a cash grab. Hopefully so.ething worthwhile comes out of the next one but the last one, this one, and the next could've all been one somewhat bigger book. Severely disappointed.

A good continuation of the series. The demons are coming to invade and the time for our MC to keep the secret of his past has come to an end. I really enjoy this series.

Back to the series I love to hate.

It's finally readable, but it still has the same pitfalls of the previous ones.
Lack of logical progression? Check.
Needless filler in sentences? Check.
We're seven books in and still have our noses rubbed in? Check.
Greedy trader? Check.
Hot babe? Check.
Plastic dialogue? You bet.

The most likeable character in the whole series is the Scylla, and that's telling.

Revelation by Michael Sisa, the 7th book in the "Legend of the Arch Magus" series, published in 2022, is a captivating continuation of a fantasy saga that blends isekai reincarnation with medieval world-building. Narrated by Tom Taylorson, this audiobook delivers an immersive experience that both satisfies long-time fans and highlights some of the series’ persistent strengths. Revelation offers a brisk, event-driven narrative that keeps listeners engaged, though it occasionally stumbles in depth and character development.

The story follows the Arch Magus, reborn as Lark Marcus, the exiled second son of a duke in a medieval kingdom. In Revelation, Lark continues to transform his desolate domain, leveraging his past life’s magical expertise to innovate and uplift his subjects. Sisa excels at crafting a power-fantasy protagonist who is both overwhelmingly competent and strategic, making Lark’s problem-solving moments - whether through magic, governance, or diplomacy - key highlights. The book shines in its depiction of Lark’s efforts to modernize his territory, introducing policies and magical advancements that feel rewarding in their ingenuity. These scenes are complemented by Sisa’s ability to paint a vivid, if somewhat broad, fantasy world where magic is underdeveloped, allowing Lark to stand out as a trailblazer.

However, Revelation falters in its pacing and character focus. The absence of a compelling love interest, particularly the diminished role of a princess who sparked intrigue in prior books, might frustrate those hoping for richer interpersonal dynamics. The story’s brevity - each audiobook is roughly 6 hours - means that dialogue and world immersion take a backseat to rapid plot progression, leaving the world feeling a little sketched rather than fully realized.

Tom Taylorson’s narration is a standout, and should be praised. His clear, dynamic delivery brings gravitas to Lark’s calculated demeanor and energy to action sequences. Taylorson’s ability to differentiate characters through subtle vocal shifts enhances the listening experience, making even the less engaging moments palatable. His performance is a significant reason why the series remains a favorite for audiobook fans.

In conclusion, Revelation is a solid, if flawed, addition to Sisa’s series, best suited for fans of fast-paced fantasy and Lark’s unstoppable rise. Taylorson’s narration elevates the experience, making it a worthwhile listen despite its lean character work and rushed pacing.

Buku ke-7 dalam siri Legend of the Arch Magus, bergenre high fantasi dgn elemen2 medieval, kingdom building, dan sword & sorcery.

Revelation (Legend of the Arch Magus, #7) by Michael Sisa is an enthralling continuation of the epic fantasy series that delves deeper into the mysteries and challenges of its magical world. This seventh installment brings new revelations, intense conflicts, and significant character development, keeping readers captivated from start to finish.

The 5 Best & 5 Worst Harem Protagonists, Ranked

The story follows Havellion, the reincarnated Arch Magus, as he uncovers hidden truths and faces formidable adversaries in his quest for power and justice. Sisa’s narrative remains engaging and intricate, with a well-paced plot that seamlessly blends epic battles with strategic maneuvering and emotional depth. Compared to its contemporaries, such as Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series and Patrick Rothfuss’s The Kingkiller Chronicle, Revelation stands out for its unique premise and the protagonist’s ongoing struggle to balance his immense power with the responsibilities and ethical challenges it brings.

"Sisa’s masterful storytelling and rich world-building make Revelation a standout entry in the Legend of the Arch Magus series, offering a compelling and multi-layered narrative that rivals the best in the genre."

Here’s a brief look at the main characters and their arcs:

Havellion: The protagonist’s journey continues to be central to the narrative. In Revelation, Havellion faces profound truths about his past and the nature of his power. His character evolves as he grapples with these revelations, adding depth and complexity to his arc. This nuanced portrayal is comparable to the character arcs seen in Robin Hobb’s Farseer Trilogy and Joe Abercrombie’s The First Law series.
Elara: Havellion’s trusted advisor and confidante, Elara’s arc in this installment explores her growing influence and the personal sacrifices she must make. Her loyalty and strategic acumen are tested, adding depth to her character and highlighting her importance to the story.
Kael: Havellion’s rival and occasional ally, Kael’s arc delves into his own ambitions and the complexities of his relationship with Havellion. His motivations and backstory are further explored, making him a more multifaceted and intriguing character.
Lyria: A powerful mage and Havellion’s ally, Lyria’s journey in Revelation focuses on her struggle to reconcile her past with her present loyalties. Her character development adds emotional weight to the narrative and enriches the world-building.
Gareth: A warrior with a troubled past, Gareth’s arc explores themes of redemption and honor. His evolving relationship with Havellion and the other characters adds depth to the story and provides a human element amidst the magical and political intrigue.

Sisa’s world-building continues to be a highlight of the series. The vivid descriptions of the magical landscapes, the intricacies of the political dynamics, and the detailed exploration of the magic system are all meticulously crafted. This immersive world is on par with the detailed settings found in Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive and the expansive universe of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time. However, Sisa’s focus on the protagonist’s personal journey and the impact of his reincarnation gives the narrative a unique edge.

31+ Feminist Anime Shows Without Politics Or Virtue Signalling

While Revelation excels in many areas, it is not without its flaws. Some sections of the book can feel overly dense with political intrigue and magical theory, which may be overwhelming for readers who prefer a faster-paced narrative. Additionally, the pacing can occasionally lag due to the extensive world-building and character development, though this is a minor issue considering the overall quality of the narrative.

Sexy Anime-Ecchi-Hentai gif #1 - 10 Pics | xHamster

In comparison to its contemporaries, Revelation holds its ground as a standout entry in the epic fantasy genre. It combines the immersive world-building and intricate political dynamics of series like A Song of Ice and Fire with the character depth and personal growth found in The Kingkiller Chronicle. Sisa’s ability to balance magic, politics, and character development makes this book a must-read for fans of the genre.

Frustratingly Short!

Why do I keep doing this? I read every book in this series, thoroughly enjoying the MC and all the world building and antics thank you!, and then sat waiting for this book to hit the virtual shelves. Settled myself down for what I knew would be an excellently good read and then...... hours later I look up to find the kids annoyed ( no dinner on the table? Your teenagers, your perfectly capable of opening the fridge or a can!), it’s early hours of the morning (seriously, did time just speed up?) and the book is finished. Noooo! Pretty please could you release the next book?

While we finally get some long anticipated events in this one, it also expands the scope of the story quite a bit which is also a bit rough on a first listen since you don't know any of the new characters. It's almost painful to hear some of the prose now. Everytime someone thinks something, the next line is them saying that thing out loud. Maybe it's because there were large sections of this that were kind of dull, but I could not focus properly because of how desperately in need of an editor these stories are. I'm not sure this one is any worse, but it's painful to read through when the snappy pace and power leveling are gone. The book could have easily been cut down by a third with a good trimming of the bloat, and it's a tiny book on top of that. Even though they sell these in a 2 pack, it still feels like a bit of a rip off for a single audible credit. If I wasn't on a deal for $5 a credit for the next few months, I'd probably be a bit more upset.

Nice thing is after reading a few of these, I'm excited to jump back into something longer and with decent prose. So once I finish the next one, unless there's some huge cliffhanger at the end, I'll probably take another little break from the series. I'll come back eventually when I'm burned out on my long series again though.

Meh ok

So I’ve read every book in the series so far. The rest of them were very entertaining they kept you on your feet they kept you wanting to know more. They develop the story to develop the main character and they were very enticing and exciting to read. This book was not one of them. While it was the next book in the series it just didn’t get the job done. I found myself just wanting to get to the end of the book so I can know what to expect in the next book. I would argue it took too much focus off of the main character it stayed at one static point in the story too long. It’s set up the coming war but then that was pretty much the whole point of this book it’s a filler almost. It does leave on a cliffhanger so the next book really does need to be published as soon as possible. Take your time reading this one it’s not gonna be very entertaining but it does lay the groundwork for the future. To the altar I said keep up the good work this wasn’t one of your best but I love the series still.

Super short story. Some inconsistencies showing, like distances and time. For example King and others could see portal from capital all the way at lion City. It makes no sense. It takes months to travel there by land according to first couple books. And now the time it takes is only 10days?

All tory seems rushed, unpolished and slapdash. Characters are boring as stone wall. No depth to any of them and no attachment forms or any emotion.
First books were interesting and looked promising, but it has gone downhill with each book.
I hope author takes note and re-writes all books properly with some depth, emotion and growth of characters. More backround information and skips useless unrelated stuff or at least makes it part of the story. For example dwarves. What was the point of them? To sell explosives? And that needed half a book?
I know I'm ranting, but I had high hopes for the story.

Ready for the next book

Gave the series a 4 star - because I was interested enough in the first book ( I had my doubts, thinking it was close to being juvenile reading and an all too familiar theme) to do the second book and from there to the rest of the books in the series. And I was surprised when I found I was so "into" the story that buying the next book and the next book and the next book was no problem despite the fact I dislike books in series being too short and costing $3.99 or $4.99 each rather than combine three books into a single novel costing $15 or $20. Still, I would recommend it providing a reader stays with the first book and is reading just for some light and entertaining fantasy.

I am still enjoying this series and I enjoy seeing Michael Sisa grow and get more comfortable as a writer. I have read quite a few of his books by this point, and a couple of the early ones were very rough. He's come a long way since then.

The books in this series are always a welcome addition to my reading list and when the newest book has been released, I am excited pick it up and continue the story.

I can't wait for the next installment and I'm also glad to hear that the series will wrap up within a few volumes rather than drag out.

We need good Doctors more than we need more Fantasy Novels

Take your time and write your books when ever, we can wait. Your work is very enjoyable but I’d hate to think my writing you great reviews would cause the works to loose a doctor. My wife and son also read your books. My son called in sick so he could read this partial book in one night. We share an account so having thee people reading the same e book really screws with what page I’m on. Waiting patiently for the rest of the book.

Good story. Simple, fun.

Starting to show weakness in character development and story lines. Still fun and simple. But editing and plotline has become stale or trying to tell to many point of views through different characters and it ruins the pacing. The books are very short, more novella length. So when switching from character to character, you lose the attention and emotions of each character as a whole.... It lessons the emotional impact of the story, because you never get full engaged with the characters arc.
That said. Simple and fun over all.

It's okay, it's a setup volume. Basically, it's in the format of a light novel which I understand doesn't really follow the format of a regular novel and I'm fine with that since I read this format all the time. That doesn't change the fact that this is an "in-between" volume tho, something that will probably have a reasonable conclusion at the next volume. Well, maybe it'll be cheaper when volume 8 comes and you'll also have a more satisfying time at reading the two volumes back-to-back.

Just brilliant easy reading

I've read everything from Robert Jordan to Terry Goodkind, eusula leguin to David Gemmel. All these authors are legendary and for me it's really hard to find books that match their prowess, but once in a while little gems pop up like the Arch Magus. Well done Michael, great reads... to be fair I just keep reading until they are finished.... tired days at work sometimes... pick this series up you won't regret it one bit

Finally, the protagonist becomes the chosen one ;-)

Once again, i found the protagonist complacent as he could have prevented thousands of deaths if he had cared to do so instead of gallivanting and waiting to be begged to do something.

I found it unbelievable that all that demon races are supposed to live with each other rather peacefully. Realistically, they should have wiped out at least the parasites as they had to use other demons as hosts during the exile..

Audio: 5 Stars, have I said this narrator is great? They ARE!!!!

Story: At the beginning I thought I wouldn't like this one since it was too much Demon politics and blah blah, but as it developed, I did enjoy it.I also want my own "Blackie". Other than the "demon" stuff, which I personally do not like (this is a ME thing). I also hope that they don't start talking about romance, *barf*. Onto my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!

Never enough

Every book feels so short, I just want more. I have been waiting so much for this book. I think it has a lot to write about and I just don't want it to be over on a couple of books.

I have recommended it to my friends and I can't wait for the comic to be on a platform like Tapas, I will go full support.

Amazing potential, flushed down the toilet.

The story had amazing potential, but it seems rushed and many subplots that could have been developed further such as the empire and kingdom of dwarfs are all lost.

Why bother creating a fake master during the war chapters with Lui if you won't develop it further?

This series has no luster left for me.

Ok

This installment was interesting, but not very exciting. I knew there would come a point when the main character's secret would come out, but it felt underwhelming. The book laid some groundwork of what is to come. But I wished it involved Lark more. It felt like he was barely in it. I still like the series as a whole and look forward to future installments.

Kinda rushed

I feel like this book is very rush a lot of story were revealing itself way too fast it lost the pacing.

Main character power scale is tripping like I read it since book 1 it should take a long time and he should enjoy the growths (like he mentioned it in the book check book1l1) but suddenly now he can fight on par with demons.

Great Read

The demons are coming, the demons are coming. And in great numbers. Lark/Evander has come to the point where he reveals his true identity and circumstances. Lark has gained a lot of Evan's ancient power back. Will he be able to protect Blackstone Town or the Kingdom? I like the action, humor, and "want to be" romance. I look forward to the next book.

It finally came

Well what can I say I've been looking forward to this one . Meeting some old friends making some new ones. Getting some more action a bit more gory than I thought. Like how things are turning out would like a more detailed explanation of plans. I finished in about a week. Looking forward too the next one😀

Still good but less to my tastes

I do not like the path the end of this series is heading down. I have loved the story till now although I suppose the OP MC needs an equal power challenge. It just feels like what was a relatively cheerful story has quickly turned dark. Regardless, I love Michael’s writing and will continue to follow this story.
