*Kill what you love the most, and know what it means to have unlimited power.*
Kerrigan Gray can't sleep without dreaming of the night she was forced to kill her mate. In her nightmares, she's drowning in his blood, choking on it. Now, after a decade of unsuccessfully trying to summon his spirit, Kerrigan sees Maksim standing across the street in broad daylight, smiling at her. It's impossible, and yet, there he is, big as life, his lips soundlessly shaping the word, Orpheus.
Maksim has lost count of the days he's spent waiting for the opportunity to escape. His sweet Bride has no reason to believe he's still alive, and Maksim dreams of the day when he can shake off his chains and return to her. As loathe as he is to admit it, he can't do it without help. He's been starved for too long and left to rot in the dungeon where he and Kerrigan both were betrayed.
The path Kerrigan must take to reunite with her beloved will be fraught with danger, and it will take more than A Little Dark Magic to defeat their enemies.
NO Cheating NO Abuse YES HEA
This book CAN be read as a standalone, but the author recommends that it be read as part of the series. Though this book is DARK, with copious amounts of blood, violence, and body parts, there is no violence or jealousy between the main characters.
For the sensitive reader, the author does disclose there is DISCUSSION about suicide and magical mental abuse.
I just wanted to let the folks know that I don't very often find myself on the ol' Goodreads site. I have too many social media accounts to keep up with and a new website.

I liked this more than the first one! Love love loved the heroine and hero. Both well thought-out characters.
FYI: these books are better read in order. The events that happen in the first book contribute to the second.

This book was so good! I love Kerrigan's and Maksim's relationship, it was heartbreaking what they went through, but I am glad we got to see them together as a couple. I love how badass Kerrigan is and I like that Maksim respects her power. Both are devoted to each other. The ending had a surprise but I wish we got another epilogue in the future, like 5 years down the line.
Most books with witches who do necromancy give me the heebies, mostly because I do believe that there is life after death and that, like life, not every element is benevolent. So it normally cuts a bit too close to home - the wrong side of home is you get my meaning. Magic should be fun and make-believe. Not ‘plausible’ and evil.
BUT this book was not like that AT ALL.
Kerrigan was great in a ‘yeah I do this thing and I’m damn good at it and don’t take it or myself too seriously’ kind of way. And I was in love with Maksim from the word go. It’s kind of sad that the only times you seem to get heroes who are devoted non-manwhores are in paranormal or sci-fi books. Like the entire female gender just universally decided to give up on human men and were like ‘yeah, so he may suck my blood or grow fur, but damn is he preferable to human guys.’ AMIRITE? The fact that I think a man who is A) faithful and B) emotionally forthright is REFRESHING is disturbing as heck. My gals, can’t we at least write men who behave decently? Why is this out of the norm?
But I digress.
Enjoyably, this book had Kerrigan save the day while Maksim was suave and smug about her badassery without needing to flex or show his abs. There were male and female friends who were lovely and loving and helpful. Things that I didn’t really care much about i.e whodunnit? were dealt with quickly and amusingly, while things that I did care about i.e will she get him back? Will they make the babies? These things were addressed thoroughly and non-cliche-ly.
I AM A HAPPY CHAPPY. If the first two heroes in this series are harbingers of the rest, I am a devoted (obsessed?) reader for many books to come. I now absolutely require books for 1. Ilex, 2. Hector, and 3. Aubin, in that order.
Thank you author who does not hate women, you are an excellent sister doing it for sisters. We appreciate your service.
The first book was good and this book got even better. The characters are well done and the story kept my interested from the first page. I can't wait for the next book, soon hopefully soon.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. The author's note at the beginning tells us this is a darker story than the first in the series, and I found that to be true. I ended up enjoying it more, however, in part because of how kickass Kerrigan was.
Kerrigan was forced to kill her vampire mate, and for 12 long years she's been trying to summon his spirit so she can ask for forgiveness. When one of her coven sisters tells her she can help Kerrigan find him, she jumps at the chance. Only what they find isn't his spirit, but his undead body....
Maksim has been held and tortured by the same coven who forced Kerrigan to murder him, and Kerrigan is going to need all her considerable skill to save him. But saving his body isn't the end, for it may have been one of his brothers who betrayed them to begin with.
Kerrigan spent 12 years learning and honing her craft. She isn't just a Summoner, she's also a Necromancer - among other things - and she's the best at what she does. She's also wily and smart, and she trusts no one but her coven sisters and Maks. I loved how everyone underestimated her, while she ran circles around them. She was confident in herself and her power without being arrogant, and I loved how she got shit done without taking herself too seriously.
I also enjoyed Maks and his devotion to her. I thought at first maybe what they had wasn't real, but that wasn't the case. He truly wanted her for his Bride, and every interaction they had was genuine and deep. His need to protect her never overrode her own abilities and I loved how confident he was in her. His pride in her power came through very well. Their romance was sweet.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
In our first book, we discovered Kerrigan, our necromancer witch, had a falling out with her parents where they tried to force her into a match and ended up forcing her to kill the man she loved. It led Kerrigan into necromancy trying to get him back. She ended up excelling at it. Astrid helps her with a spirit walk and Maksim, her vampire, doesn't end up as dead as expected. With her coven, they unearth what really happened that day and find a true happily ever after. Lots of interesting twists and turns and fascinating well developed characters.
Since I read Ransoms Queen a few months ago I got snatched by Wroth prose and read some more of her work because that book was damn good.
I then got to A Little Green Magic and it was nice, but what got me was the world building and our side kicks.
So obviously I needed to read more. Unfortunately there is just this book out by now, but I read it too and it's so good.
It's to no surprise that Juliet is my fave and I NEED her book with Ilex, not creating expectation towards their book because I'm known to being fucked when this enter the equation.
But please God. Hey miss Wroth, what gives? It'd be awesome if maybe next year the third one in this series made itself here!
I adored Kerrigan, she was everything and this book warmed my heart. One of the worries I had was the end and my conception about how it'd end, fortunately I was wrong and this made the book a lot better. If you know, you know.
Maks was cool, I found him so sweet. Anyway, the romance was good, the plot was good and now I'm here wanting for another series entirely focused on Maks brothers.
Who knows? Maybe. I'm till to this day dreaming about a Tom and Angel book - to which their own, given they're siblings - from Ransoms Queen.
So yeah, adored this and am in love with this little magic world.
Excellent 2nd story- this one is about Vampires and witches- a Summoner to be exact. 5 stars because I rated the first book a 4 and this one seemed much better than that one- shrugs-
Its fantasy, yes? But man the author did her homework! All the scenarios seemed real, the schooling, the spells, the necromancy, the Silver Wives, the vampire legends and secrets.
This story follows Kerrigan as she looks for her lost love Maks. It involves her fellow witches, the lion shifters, the Green Man, more vampires and then lots of ghosts. The characters are strong, writing is strong and even though I had to step away because it felt like a lit of info at once- I was glad to get back. Very good 2nd story in this series.
I am not burning with a book hangover about this series but am totally going to scoop them up as they are released.
I think this could be read as a stand-alone, though it definitely ties into book 1 in places, but enough is explained that I think a new reader won't be totally lost. I did enjoy this book, though it had a few places that got bogged down & sort of lost my interest. I had to power thru those places to keep from quitting. Once I got past those places, it was a great story. Kerrigan & Maksim are quite the couple. I was excited to see at the end a woman kick some major @ss in a story. Kerrigan was surprisingly strong and yet a great character. I loved how the story ended for them, definitely an HEA for the couple! Will definitely pick up book 3 when it comes out.
I loved this book way more than the first. Kerrigan is way more dark and powerful than her sister Ivy. This is a much darker book that Ivy’s. Blood and gore warning. Not a lot of really bad gore but if you’re sensitive be warned. Mask is such a sweet guy and very protective. His suit fetish is a bit weird to me and I don’t like the ending with the potion book situation. Especially after the epilogue. I loved this book so much. Great read amazing characters and I can’t wait to see and hear more.
Wow, this book captivated me from beginning to end! Kerrigan is such a bad ass female lead! I loved her. Normally I am all about the males in books, but Kerrigan was such an awesome character. Super strong, very powerful, loving, caring and loyal. And then Maksim…such a caring, devoted mate! And don’t anger him…because he will rip your throat out! He is very protective of Kerrigan and loves her unconditionally. The story kept me guessing and intrigued, great character building and fun secondary characters. Great romance and some hot steam. All in All, very good!
I was not particularly impressed with the first book of this series and up until now Queens Ransom was my all time Fav...But this one was Excellent!!!!! with everything you could ask for, a kick as* heroine and a sexy vamp, I sincerely hope that she continues this series, so many of the secondary characters were worth another, look not to mention Mak's brothers...Hector anyone?
I loved seeing Kerrigan get her HEA! I only wish we got more explanation of the Bride thing and how it works. Other than that I found it really compelling to see how she and Maksim overcame the danger and intrigue working together. Seeing Kerrigan's power was also really great. I liked both leads and the story kept me very entertained. The epilogue melted my heart!
Im just awed, can't describe how I felt about this book. The storyline and plot kept me engaged until the end. I loved this book so damn much. I like the MC and secondary characters. I can't get enough of this world created by Ms. Wroth. Can't wait for the next book, hopefully, Juliet and Ilex's love story.
After searching for years to reunite with her fated mate it finally happens. Cue the tears and happiness but wait, now the search to find out who/what separates them. No spoilers just saying I was very pleasantly surprised and very happy with the journey. At the end I squealed and was like I need the next book now.
So, the first one (A Little Green Magic) was really good. This one is better And foreshadowing? OH MY WORD! There are enough little bits of 'who knew' and 'you'll be sorry' running around loose, to choke a Kelpie! Truly enjoying the series, looking forward to the next few books.....can we hook Hector up with Rowena? Please?
This book is decidedly better constructed and has a deeper/more intricate story than the first one, although it still has a disturbing amount of mistakes. At one point even Bride becomes Dride. I think this story had a good heart. It's a good comfort book where the heroine might just be a little bit too badass.
There is a lot going on in this book, half the book is back and forth in time, but in a good way it builds the readers emotional attachment to Maks and Kerrigans love story and a heartbreaking one it is. I love the second half of the book even more, watching them come together a build a solid bond was a pure delight. As was the end. Very good read.
First time in years I've left a 5 star review. I save them for books I will remember forever. Even though MS. Wroth is on my top 3 favorite authors list, she's only ever gotten one other 5 star from me. Do not miss this one.
I love this author. I have never been disappointed in any of her books. If you want a funny and great story, this is it. I have read and reread all of the series. Can’t wait to get the next book by Isabel Wroth.
It's been a while since I have read a vampire story but this one is one the best EVER!! It pulled me in from the very start and kept me hooked to the last beautiful part!!! So much fight love and determination. How to stay unmoved?? A beautiful story!!! Can't wait for the next
Excellent second book in this series. It was a bit darker than book 1, but oh so delicious. Kerrigan and Maxsim make a great couple and a great storyline to get to their happy ending.
Loved it. It was darker then the first in this series but I loved seeing Kerrigan be a bad ass and so strong. I’m glad she got her HEA and got rid of the stuff that made her feel bad.
I kinda chose the first book in this series at random. And. Loved. It. The characters and storylines are interesting and well developed. Absolutely worth the read.
