So, we finally got the first names of the two main characters! Shimamura: Hougatsu Adachi: Sakura
Well, it is getting better, with Sakura trying to be more confident, but it's still quite awkward between them. As Hougatsu observed it herself: Hino and Nagafuji are on the same wavelength, whereas Hougatsu and Sakura not so much.
Sakura is getting a bit more confident, as said, but Hougatsu keeps being so oblivious. She does see the signs, she keeps thinking about how different Sakura's behavior is to her other friends, but she always keeps coming back to the conclusion that it must be Sakura's character. (The amount of times she said, "it's so very Adachi-like"...) I don't think she's homophobic or anything, maybe she's just confused about her own feelings or where it may lead to, once she realizes why Sakura acts like that... but it's still a bit weird. Very back-and-forth, story-wise.
The flashback of Sakura's childhood and the reason why she's so socially awkward... well, it was creepy, ngl. The way her parents were portrayed, I mean. It was good, though. Makes sense. I hate how much I could relate to that, though.
I loved the two parallel chapters, where Hougatsu travels to Nagayo – one time with a childhood friend, and the other time with Sakura. Also shows how close the titular characters have gotten. The billboard thing and the hug were cute. There's hope for their relationship becoming a romance.
Yashiro is cute as well, I'm just wondering what her purpose is (other than being Sakura's "rival") and what the storyline even is for. I mean, it doesn't have the magical realism tag, but technically it should have... I do like Yashiro – she's an interesting and cute character, and it might feel empty without her –, it's just a very random side-plot.
Still not a ton of character work for Shimamura. It’s odd, but most of her solo parts are about her relationships with other people. Adachi has a mix of focus on her relationships and introspection. We learn more about her issues with asking for things she wants and that makes it feel like she’s more developed as a character than Shimamura.
I still don’t quite get why the “time traveling” child is here??
Cute, very slow burn, girl love story. The characters are so innocent it’s painful at times but there’s still some nice moments that happen. Not 100% my speed but a cute story nonetheless if you like that slice of life, love my best friend story approach. 7/10.
I thought I read the second volume but I see I haven’t. I didn’t feel confused while reading so I will go back and read it.
I believe this was an adaptation for the third light novel. It portrays Valentine’s Day, Tarumi meeting Shimamura at the butcher, and even Adachi and Tarumi seeing each other but of course not knowing their common denominator friend. I did love seeing the illustrations of Adachi being so happy with her being in the same class as her friend and her suddenly hugging Shimamura after seeing the message while they are in Nagoya. Shimamura and Tarumi hang out but it seems awkward but it was cute that she called after her childhood friend.
The first part is from Adachi’s point of view and the. We see things from Shimamura and how she feels about not only herself but her view on Adachi.
I haven’t read anything related to this series in three years but I have seen the anime with my best friend. I still love it. I do hope we get a season 2.
I am waiting a bit longer before resuming the light novels.

I’m liking this series less as it goes on and it wasn’t stellar to begin with. Yes, Adachi is a bit over the top in her thoughts/feelings for her crush. But there are people like this in real life. Shimamura is definitely the character that I dislike more with each volume. And the weird little girl who shows up randomly and claims to be hundreds of years old and an alien? Who doesn’t go to school, wanders out in public alone and goes to Shimamura’s house and watches her sleep and greets guests at the door? Random, odd and now 3 volumes deep and still nonsense.
3 stars. I was pretty meh on this one but it had its good moments. I feel like Adachi got a lot of character development and growth and Shimamura’s entire personality is her crush on Adachi and that’s unfortunate. She deserves to have things going on outside of that but she just doesn’t. There’s only one volume left which is weird because this story doesn’t feel anywhere close to finished. It feels like it’s barely got started.
This was really cute and had some really emotinal moments. It was much deeper than I thought it was going to be. The story is moving slowly but we are getting some really good character development here.
These two girls, first a friendship, and now possibly a budding romance? Also, enter a long lost grade-school bestie, and things seem to be getting rather interesting, if I do so say myself. I recommend this series to all yuri lovers!
This volume was much more enjoyable from the start. This is my favorite so far. I like how the relationship between Adachi & Shimamura is progressing. And I am excited to see where the series goes.
I had enjoyed the first two volumes of this series, and this volume wasn't bad, but I think because of the gap in time between starting the series and re-reading the series to read through this volume I have changed and I no longer really enjoy the series as much. I am still giving it 4 stars because the plot is good, the characters are developing and the artwork remains consistently good. I am just not sure if I will continue the series. I plan on reading the next volume before deciding.
