An offshore oil rig. And a sinister secret.

Six people, all up for a good party. They work for Global Companion, a multi-national corporation, and are now airlifted to a yacht anchored in the Atlantic. A one-week luxury vacation is awaiting the winners of the company sweepstakes. However, they are in for a tragic disappointment. A heavy storm forces the chopper’s pilot to risk an emergency landing on a darkened offshore oil rig, whose crew seems to have gone AWOL. Pools of blood strongly point to gruesome happenings on board. Soon, the first brutal murder occurs. Who is behind it? And who will be slaughtered next? The only answer seems to be death, an evil force which shrouds this island made of steel like a blood-red veil …

The story is very good. What was supposed to be a once in a lifetime vacation turns into a horror story littered with twists and turns that make you want to keep turning the page. That is if you can get past the first third. The dialogue between characters seems inhuman. Women seem like a mans fantasy of women, and the men are the same. This paired with a few typos/translation errors left me focusing on the events of the story rather than relating to the people experiencing them.

I found it odd that some of the escape room-esque hints are handed to us on a silver platter, but the plot had such a big reveal. A character might make an observation and wonder to themselves how useful it will be later, and other times they might make big decisions, unknowingly causing their own demise.

That said, once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down.

I received a digital copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway. (Thank you, Mr. Krepinksy!)

Six employees of a large corporation win a lottery, the prize being a week on the company’s yacht. On the way to the destination, they’re forced to make an emergency landing on an oil rig. Things go down hill from there.

This book was originally written in German, and there are a few times that sentences get “lost in translation”. This didn’t prevent me from enjoying the story; whenever I had to pause my reading I was always eager to return to it. The reveal surprised me, and the ending was satisfying. I would recommend it to other readers.

An Entertaining Read

A Tower Below The Sea: A Thriller With Twists And Turns And A Big Reveal by Karsten Krepinsky certainly lives up to the title that encapsulates what is to be read by the reader.

The narrative is a real treat as the reader finds themselves aboard a helicopter. The 6 passengers and the pilot are still in excitement mode as the three men and three women are about to enjoy a one-week luxury vacation. The destination is a luxurious yacht anchored on the Scottish coast.

Kim, one of the recipitients of this get-away nicely decribes the other 5 winners and the pilot in terms of how they appear outwardly and when their personalities are revealed as they interact on their air journey.

However, a fierce storm develops and the seven individuals find themselve miracously saved from the cold Atlantic ocean and atop a oil type rig. A miracle of deliverance has been their physical salvation or so it appears.

However, mysterious questions begin to arise like the tumultous waves of the Atlantic. What became of the crew? How do you explain the apparent clues of struggles and what appears to be the presence of significant amounts of human blood?

As the mystery unfolds and the presence of the survivors disappear a story of intrigue, mystery, horror and a fight for survival ensues. It is a story that even transcends the individual lifes of these 7 individuals.

A Tower Below The Sea: A Thriller With Twists And Turns And A Big Reveal by Karsten Krepinsky is a great read that will sure to delight the appetite of the reader for a suspenseful tale with a heavy dose of horror.

Offshore Oil Rigs have a rather bad rep with the public, mostly for spills and other environmental factors. But on one oil Rig, there is something much more sinister waiting than a simple spill. Six employees of Global companion have won an all expense paid vacation are on their way to the yacht when a sudden storm forces the pilot to seek the first safe harbor he can. This possible not so safe shelter turns out to be an oil rig that seems to be deserted and other than the pools of blood throughout, there are no signs of life. The group are spooked and when one person is murdered, they are suddenly all fighting for their lives before they too are next.
A suspenseful thriller and murderous story are the spine of this book. I am German, so I understand the German mindset in how stories flow and was easily able to follow along. The story is well done. The only issue I had is the main characters portrayal, she was not likeable, and even with the trauma in her past, the vast majority of women would not act the way she did. (Speaking as a woman, and as a multiple trauma survivor).

Disclaimer: I received this book from Good Reads in return for a review.

This book is a thriller/horror story about a group of people whose helicopter crash lands on what appears to be an oil platform in the middle of the ocean. There, they are stalked by a killer whose motive is not revealed until the end. The book is plagued throughout by poor use of the English language, making it obvious it was written in German. I suspect the blame goes to the translator for that. Maybe an English editor would have been a good idea. The story itself is okay, but I was left unsatisfied by it and cannot recommend it.

This book did present some reading difficulty for me which hindered my overall enjoyment. During the early chapters I considered not continuing but remained with the story and became more familiar with the writing style as the back and forth between current and past events with multiple characters took some getting use to. The story idea has some merit yet I cannot state that the book was more than okay. 3 star read.

My thanks to goodreads and the book’s giveaway sponsors for the opportunity to obtain a copy of this book.

Vielen Dank to author Karsten Krepinsky for this FREE Kindle cop of A Tower Below the Sea. And thanks to Goodreads for hosting the opportunity.

I liked it. The story was interesting and was set to a nice pace throughout. I also thought the characters, visuals and twist at the end were nicely done. The style of writing left me wanting though. It has the feel of a 'first work', but after checking, there are a dozen or so works previous to this. I think some time polishing the writing, fine tuning a few details, and some minor editing would go a long way.

I usually like to find something positive about the books that I win, this one, however, left me struggling to finish it. I made it halfway through. The storyline was very difficult to follow and, while it was (I think) an ARC the mistakes made it difficult to get over. Sorry - not one to be critical, but this one just didn't make it for me.

This book started out scary but then it just got silly. Six people win a lottery for a cruise. The helicopter crashes on the way to the ship and they land on what seems to be an oil rig. It turns out to be a weird game of trying to find clues while staying alive. The characters keep having flashbacks and it's hard to figure out what's going on. It's all downhill from there. I would not recommend.

This one left me wanting. I found it not only difficult to follow but the premise wasn’t anything remotely enjoying. As a giveaway from Goodreads, it is not something that I can recommend, and a rare 1 of 5 stars.
