When life seems to good to be true, it usually is. That’s a lesson that monster hunter Sam Forrest learned early and has had beaten into them often. So, when their relationship with two amazing guys and the luxury of a big paycheck from their last job seems too good to be true….
Tensions in Westhold are rising with the ascension of a new leader who has some radical ideas about what the relationship between humans, curs, and fiends should look like. Sam soon finds themselves swept up in the upheaval that comes with changing the status quo. Just when Sam finally lets their guard down, they end up reeling from the loss of someone close to them, which throws them into a battle with the wild instincts of their shifter side. Hunters like Sam are often hired to kill curs who go feral under stress. This time, it might be Sam who ends up as the prey.
Author’s Note:
I love reverse harem, but I got sick of reading the same old tropes. In my books you will find atypical characters and varied sexuality. In general, you probably won’t find many alpha males or fainting females, and relationships may have a more poly feel.
The Not Quite series is a harem/reverse harem urban fantasy series of novellas (between 35,000-45,000 words) and contains the following:
*adult language, and lots of it
*moderate levels of violence/gore/action
*graphic sexual situations
*polyamory/ multiple lovers
*LBGTQ and straight themes (the main character is intersex and will have both male and female lovers, and this is a harem, so expect M/F, M/M, F/F, MMMFF etc.)
*as usual, my characters all have their own emotional scars. This means the books MAY contain mentions of abuse, unpleasant situations, etc. Please do not read if you are triggered by things like this. This book in particular has several mentions and flashbacks to past abuse.
*occasional “cliff-hangers” or lead-ins to the next book may occur, though generally at least one major plot arc shows completion or at the very least, forward progress.
*word count does not include teaser chapters or other fluff material at the end.
Sometimes our greatest strengths come from our deepest challenges. I write magic and romance, starring a cast of creatures with feathers, fins, and teeth. My books include paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and fantasy romance--with the occasional steampunk or alien story thrown in just for kicks. My pan heart firmly believes love is love, so you'll see straight, LGBTQIA, monogamous, reverse harem, and poly relationships in my work. My favorite theme is overcoming our inner demons and the insecurities that hold us back. I also advocate for self-development and mental health and dabble in non-fiction as time allows. I love the outdoors and still hope to be abducted by fae! (I may have more in common with my characters than I care to admit.)
I love to hear from readers!

A must read for RH fans looking for something unique.
The thing I love about Kaye's writing is the raw humanity of characters who are not entirely human. Messy, flawed, relatable... Wendigo? Or Sabertoothed Cat, Leprechaun, trans-dimensional alien-beastie? Yeah, she's got those.
This is the first series I have ever found with an intersex person as a main character and I very much hope it isn't the last. As a cisgendered person, I've found the fluidity of the MCs gender expression has really helped me have a better understanding of and empathy for what it means to be nonbinary. Add in the representation of the whole rainbow of LGBTQA+ characters and it's an exploration of what makes us human, couched in all the magic and mayhem of a fantasy world. The perspective is fresh and interesting and I am here for it.
okay so, so far I've been liking this series, the world building, different characters, etc are intriguing and interesting enough to keep me going towards continuing the series
that being said, I'm starting to get so frustrated w the MC for one- while I understand why they're pissed at Angel because I too have issues w using sex like that, BUT some of the things they said to him were atrocious and completely uncalled for
and two- their hangup w the sovereign, like yes, he hid what he is, sure, but that's his business. and to act betrayed bcs you apparently considered him a friend, but all you did was insult the man ?? crazy
yes, the MC has their reasons, their trauma, but that doesn't excuse you treating the people around you like shit. having a hard time w letting people in is different from insulting every moving thing. sure, the other people might deserve ts, the people who were actually trying did not
Unfortunately, my personal preference these days isn't terribly forgiving to characters whose defining personality trait seems to be "cranky," especially when there is more than one in a book and they are in a cranky relationship together.
Totally willing to pick up this series again later when I'm in a different headspace. I will definitely continue to check out future works by this author.
Another short yet excellent addition to the series.
Love this continuing short story series. The characters jump off the page and the story telling is so well rounded for such a short read. My only complaint could be that I want these to be combined into a long novel...But I willingly read them knowing it's going to be short.
It's a 5 star book, absolutely. I loved getting another look into Sam's world. However, I felt like the book sped by so quickly! Definitely waiting impatiently for more.
For all intents and purposes this looks like a standalone novel in the kindle app. Until you get to the end of the book, which clearly isn't the end. The writing wasn't bad but with no links to the other books or being told it was a series in advance, I won't be bothering with anymore
Sam was finding a comfortable smooth routine with the leprechaun and orc but that doesn't always last. A secret kind of explodes and Sam is not quite sure how to take that. Sam is in for a fight but so is there mates.
This one was hard and unexpected. It completely sucks what happens to Sam and her mates. Luck magic always has a price eventually but a life shouldn't be one of them. How Sam reacts is just terrible and I can't believe that they could be so selfish.
Sam starts off this book in a situation that is making them happy. They have settled with their mates and they have a little money in the bank, they even have someone they are interested in becoming more involved with. Then things start going wrong and keep going wrong and Sam just hasn’t got the emotional capacity to handle things.
There are bits of this book that were quite difficult for me to read. Those bits were to do with anger and fear and guilt all mushed up into one explosive ball of emotion. This is what happens when big emotions are repressed for a long time, as is Sam’s wont. That sense of spiralling is one that I have experienced a few times and reading it spelled out so clearly gave me an overwhelming sense of deja vu, which was uncomfortable.
It felt like very little got resolved in this book, which is the nature of Kaye Draper’s series. Each book is part of the whole and therefore cannot be treated as a solitary item, it has to be considered within the framework of the whole. Because of uncomfortable emotions I can’t say I ‘enjoyed’ this book, but I know before the series is complete I will have read it again and enjoyed it within it’s intended frame.
I really enjoy the "outside the box" characters and relationships. It's not only refreshing but it's right that every being should be celebrated for who they are and not 'what' they are. Love should be shared freely and without limitations set by others. Kaye Draper is able to make the fantastical so very real because all the emotions are real and that has nothing to do with the scenery. Excellent series!
