A great source of information about different types of witches. Nothing crazy really, for the most part this is info that's reasonably easy to find in the internet but is nice to have all in one spot.
I'm really a big mesh of different types, but I don't like to label my practice in any particular way since I also incorporate Buddhism aspects, like the Noble Eightfold Path. So for me is not a matter of religion, but instead a discipline, philosophy and way of life.
It took me longer than expected to listen through the whole book, but it was a lot of fun to do so. Simple concepts and ideas that are directly related to nature and elements that are all around us...even if you don't consider them witchy - it is a great reminder to honor and appreciate our natural world: animals, plants, stars, weather, seas, stones, all of it!
A lovely little book that thoroughly looks at what it means to be a witch in a light-hearted and modern way. I love the authors positive and supportive writing style as she describes different types of witches and how to determine where you might fit in and what you find important in your own practice.
rating: 4 stars ★★★★☆ format: ebook (Kindle Unlimited) genre: no genre listed on Goodreads - I guess it's considered self-help or reference?
So, I've been feeling a bit more witchy than usual recently. ✨ I've been into crystals, spirit guides, smoke cleansing, and meditation for many years, but never called myself a "witch". I will admit I had a different view on witchcraft before reading this book-the picture in my head was a lot more dramatic than most witchcraft actually is. I learned that a lot of the things I had been doing for years was considered magic.
This book is an informative and easy read. There many more types of witches than I knew about, and the author is very adamant about not boxing yourself into a category. The book is written in a way that is open and accepting of everybody's differences. It's very "you do you". You chose what types of magic you want to practice and what you identify as. It's a great introduction for newbies such as myself and it got me excited to learn and experiment more.
🔮 pros:
The author has a very open-minded view of things. While I was reading I felt as if I was being spoken to by a friend.
The book does a good job of explaining cultural appropriation and teaching how to avoid it.
A very easy read. I have trouble focusing and everything is broken up and organized in a way that helped me process everything, even at 4 am before I went to bed.
🔮 cons:
The ebook contained a lot of links for the "White Witch Academy" but not a single one of them worked. It seems like the site might not exist anymore.
🔮 overall thoughts:
I felt warm and comforted while reading this. It's a great intro into witchcraft, though I wish the links worked because some of them were freebie offers.
This book was great for learning the types of witchcraft available. I liked reading about some of the crafts I wasn't aware of, but I think this book is best as an introduction to witchcraft and may further help the practitioner choose an area of study or interest. As a person who is looking for information to grow past the introductory stage of learning, this book didn't supply much information beyond explaining the different fields of study or practice. I enjoyed reading it though, I wrote down some more areas of study I hadn't quite heard of or had time to look into and I'm excited to use this resource to further my knowledge. I would recommend this book to a person considering or beginning witchcraft, who may not be sure which areas of practice interest them yet -- there are many different paths to follow!
I read this book for a friend. I didn’t have much hope going into it because I believe the whole “types of witches” thing is misleading and fundamentally flawed, but I tried to set aside my prejudice and focus on what the author had to say. She lists 31 types of witches, and gives descriptions, strengths, and probable activities of each so that you might recognize yourself in a type. I found the types she chose to be a baffling assortment that suggested a kind of hierarchy. Some types, such as chaos witch and eclectic witch, were not delineated from one another at all. Others, like thunder witch, were completely made up. Still others, like green witch and hereditary witch, shouldn’t be compared because they’re not comparable quantities. One describes a type of practice and the other describes ancestry. Scholarship is completey ignored. I ended up disliking this book for completely different reasons than I thought I would and would only recommend it to people whose main hobby is taking BuzzFeed quizzes.
I had a great time with this book. I have been wanting a more in-depth look at the different types of witches. I wanted to know what the options were and was hoping to better understand the best way for e to practice. This book provided exactly that. There was so much information and it was incredibly digestible, perfect for other beginners like myself. This book introduces so many types of witches and in general, how they practice, it was great. There were some that I resonated with and others that I feel are not for me. This is definitely a great resource that I will definitely look back on.
This is a really great book. It's not going to teach you how to become a witch (she has another book for that, several actually), but it does help you see that there is no one way to be a witch. After struggling with this concept all through my teens and early adulthood, this book help me find a home in secular witchcraft, and the realization that I don't have to dabble in any one form of divination, or spell work, or anything else; witchcraft is what I make it. I can dabble in all of them! Thank you!
I stumbled upon this little gem and I could tell her writing was going to be up-beat and not so weighted down with stuffy...magic talk. I'm at a point of spiritual exploration and this book was filled of good info and a good intro to different kinds of practices.
It helped to lighten the mood around the subject for me. I'd recommend this read to anyone interested in learning more about witchy stuff. I devoured it in one sitting. She's quickly becoming my favorite witch author!
It's a good book for beginners. Just to find out which types of witchcraft is out there. Don't take it as a manual but more of a guide. Good easy read. Only took about maybe an hour. Sadly the links do not work anymore and to me that's a bit of an issue because it has so many things listed as a free resources for new witches and now all those resources are gone.
This is a book that breaks down over 30 types of witches and how to recognize what type you are. It's a well-written and well-developed book that's easy to read. I read it through and learned a lot. I borrowed this book from KU but plan to purchase it so that I can go through it in more detail and do some journaling with it as suggested in the book. I highly recommend this book which is a great read for both those new to witchcraft and those who have been practicing a while.
I'm hoping you give this book a read. You won't find guidance or rules. Just a really nice guide to help you explore the different types of witches. As a longtime eclectic witch myself (read the book and you'll know what that means), I read everything and I genuinely enjoyed the different descriptions and positive voice of the writer. This is a great book for helping the beginning witch along their path.
Wow, I never realized how many different types of Witches there are out there. The information is fantastic and wonderful. I now know as I look around my room why I have had such an interest in the small to medium crystal balls, gem stones, seashells, sand, crystals, feathers and incense. Very enlightening and exciting book.
I haven't encountered a book that listed the types of witches and ways they might practice, I really enjoyed this one. It's not a heavy read, so it's perfect to skim through a few sections at s time to find what resonates with you. I highly recommend this for people who want to explore what sort of witchcraft practices might open new doors for them.
Being very new to the craft, I appreciate the tone of the author’s book. Ms Wilder shares knowledge in an upbeat and positive voice. When I looked for a book to begin my journey, I was overwhelmed by the number. I am very glad this I found this one. I’ve already ordered the next one.
I was looking for reasonable answers to my questions about becoming a Witch and what that involved. I found some answers in this book. I enjoyed the writing style very much. It was like having a mentor guiding me. I am looking forward to reading the a it's other books on this topic.
Great read for someone just beginning their journey and wanting to understand more about the type of Witch they maybe. But this isn't just for beginners, seasoned Witches may learn a thing or two about themselves and their magickal practice.
This book was perfect and came at the right time. I love being able to read about different paths / options when it comes to learning new things about myself. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone trying to find their way or anyone looking for answers on where to start their magical journey. Julie Wilder spells it out!
I really enjoyed the simplicity of this book! It was well written and explains a lot of terms that you might not know. I am new to all of this and want to learn as much as I can without biases!
This was an excellent book! It really helped me have the confidence to learn more about becoming a witch and to trust my intuition. I've already bought more of Julie's books to continue on my witchy journey.
Short, sweet, and to the point. Some really great info for Witches who are just starting out or those who are looking to branch out and expand their current practices. A great book to help point you to areas you may want to explore further.
I think this is a great intro book for newer witches starting out on their journey and trying to find their own path. Very basic and easy to read. Will probably be a bit boring for more experienced practitioners though.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I spent some time on myself with it, as I'm usually consumed with thoughts of others this book allowed me to look deeply inside of myself. Thanks for writing this Julie
This book is very informative and keeps you interested as you read the author is well spoken and I enjoyed her way of writing. Even if you are not looking to become a witch it is definitely worth a read!
I love this book. I’m very new to witchcraft and I’ve done lots of research. This is the most concise and informative volume on witchcraft I have found. I’m glad this is a serious because there’s still much to learn. She also has a website with lots of free resources.
What a wealth of new information for the novice witch! I highly recommend this handbook to anyone who is curious about witchcraft, who is a newbie witch, and those of you who have been discouraged by the limiting beliefs of others. Julie is down to Earth and her insight, knowledge, and perspective is useful and encouraging. Reading this book will help you to find your witchy niche or even break out of one that isn't a good fit.
Painfully short, and some types seem a bit 'manufactured', but it was a fun and quirky read. I picked it up second hand and passed it on. Maybe a great one to keep on your shelf as a novelty, but I'm in the habit of only keeping things that really resonate with me on a personal level.
I found this book enjoyable to read! It made me wonder what type of witch I would be. I loved learning about the different types of witches and makes me want to start my magical journey!
