School books can be sooooo boring. This one really irritated me.
I'm reading along and it says watch this video to see blah, blah, blah, and the word video is blue like there's a link to click. What the feathers?!?!?!? How can you watch a video in a physical book?
Textbook bonfire still scheduled for May 2019!

There is a lot of very good information presented in this book that is applicable to early childhood classrooms and into early elementary grades. I know I will take a lot of what I read with me when I enter the world of teaching. Unfortunately, when I am reading a textbook, I prefer that the text be free from author bias. On several occasions (but not consistently) the author actually said phrases like "I believe..." and "My opinion...". I was not reading this book to receive the author's opinions on the subject of Early Childhood Education, but rather to gain information and insight to the dynamics and ever changing structure of the profession. If I had wanted to read how an author felt about Montessori schools, I would have found an opinion piece on the subject. While I know bias and opinions cannot be totally erased, I would prefer the tone of my textbooks to be without personal opinions clearly stated.

Once again, I could not find my exact edition, as it was put out by my college to make a quick buck, so I've chosen what seems to be a comparable edition. This book is meant to education blossoming early childhood education professionals about current issues and some back history of the early childhood educational field and what it means to be a part of the field. The inside cover has a helpful chart referring readers to which NAEYC Standards for Early Childhood Professional Preparation Programs are addressed in which chapters. Some of the information, such as how to perform assessments, was very helpful, but I feel they could have been explained more thoroughly. There is regular emphasis on dealing with children who may need differentiated instruction, such as those with disabilities or language issues.
