The Japanese Short Stories for Beginners in this series was pitched at the perfect level. In comparison, the Korean Short Stories for Beginners felt more like intermediate level at times. Some stories were fine and I could understand a good 80-90% without aid. However, I struggled to follow even 50% of others. This was mostly because the topics chosen for those stories were highly specialised, with a set of vocabulary to match, and not all words were included in the accompanying glossary. It's unlikely the average learner would have come across much of this vocabulary, so it made the reading experience a little disheartening and I would have preferred it if they'd followed the style of the Japanese book with more general 'stories' with everyday vocabulary. Still, it wasn't completely useless and I will likely come back in the future and attempt to read it again when I am a little more advanced in my studies. I'm giving it 3.5 stars for now.

The book features a lot of stories with an English Translation, Summary, Vocabulary, Questions, and Answers. First, the book lets you read the story as it is and then in the next would be the translation under each paragraph. Certain words are in bold that corresponds to the bold in the English translation and I honestly like this presentation of having the story as it is and then having the English translation under each paragraph on the next page. Having read storybooks from Korean Unnie and Easy Korean Reading for beginners(TTMIK) the translation is beside the Korean text on another page which is hard for ebook format as you'd have to scroll up and down to compare.

Not to mention, that these books are overseas and shipping is expensive so some people would opt to buy Ebook versions instead and that kind of format is truly such a hassle.

This book makes it easier for you to do that as you don't have to continuously scroll up and down to understand. Also, the stories are long with a lot of vocabulary presented, there's also a Question part where you'd be asked about the story if you understood and the answers would be presented on the next page.

Also, I'd also like to commend this book for not romanizing the words. I agree that it would be easier but I believe it's better to train yourself to read the characters as it is without the aid of romanization as found in some books. After all, Language Learning is a constant practice and since this book features long stories, you can train yourself more in learning how to read Longer Korean Paragraphs or sentences.

Overall, I completely like the story collection presented in the book as most of the vocabulary presented are words you would know on a daily basis in order to improve your Korean and the format for this book is different as compared to others.

‘Providing easy to understand words and structures’ – Learning the Korean language!

Once again Lingo Mastery has come to the rescue, making Korean more accessible to a wider population. In the Introductory Note the goal is stated well: ‘We’ve written this book to cover an important issue that seems to affect every new learner of the Korean tongue – a lack of helpful reading material. While in English you may encounter tons (or gigabytes, in our modern times) of easy and accessible learning material, in Korean you will usually and promptly be given tough literature to read by your teachers, and you will soon find yourself consulting your dictionary more than you’d want to. Eventually, you’ll find yourself bored and uninterested in continuing, and your initially positive outlook may soon turn sour. Our goal with this book will be to supply you with useful, entertaining, helpful and challenging material that will no only allow you to learn the language but also help you pass the time and make the experience less formal and more fun…’

After their success teaching Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, Portuguese, and Turkish, now they continue in teaching Korean! And it works. To make the Korean – Hangul - characters accessible, transcriptions are provided in the form of transliteration and conventional signs used for transcription. Each of the twenty stories follows the pattern Summary of the story, Vocabulary Questions about the story, and Answers. Or as the authors state, ‘Each story will tell a different tale involving unique, deep characters with their own personalities and conflicts, while ensuring that you understand the objective of the particular language device in Korean Verbs, Pronouns, Nouns, Directions, Time and Date: all of it will be covered in this Basic-level book for Beginners. At no point will we introduce concepts too difficult for you to grasp, and any complicated vocabulary will be studied at the end of each story.’

The technique is solid and the stories are entertaining. This is a very fine introduction to Korean language that may arise when you visit Korea or simply conversing and understand the Korean population here at home. This book is appropriate for all age levels, and a book much needed at this time in our national status!

This book really helped me with comprehension. I have been studying Korean for 6 months and I can say that this book is exactly what I needed. I lacked mostly in vocabularies because I focused in grammar. This book helped me catch up on vocabularies AND improve my grammar. I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to practice grammar and some neat vocabularies. :)

This was a really good book for korean language learners. However THIS IS NOT a book for beginners. You must be at least intermediate in order to get through this book.

An absolutely essential book if you learn korean. Really useful read, with easy short stories and a good way to get to used to the korean writing. I recommend this book to everyone, who has a basic knowledge of hangul.

There are some particles that aren't explained later, and sometimes the sentences are confusing and hard. I wouldn't say it's for BEGINNERS, but for intermediate.
