One nuclear supercarrier strike group, perhaps the last operational military unit on a fallen planet. Two teams of spec-ops Marines, the only warriors dauntless enough to dare the missions required to keep the others alive. And one Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman, battling to do an impossible job and find his place on a team knit tight as steel cable...
The blistering new series continues, with Doc Yaz, Gunny Blane, and the rest of the Raiders safely back on the Kennedy. But they are nearly instantly thrust back onto shore, out into the worst of the Zulu Alpha, in order to secure the critical supplies the strike group needs to survive even another week - and then the weapons and ammo the Marines need to keep fighting for the others. Hold your breath as these shore missions go from simple, to stupid, to suicidal, all with breathtaking speed and violence. Yea, verily...

I've been on this trip through the Zulu Alpha from practically the beginning of the saga and I have to take my hat off to Mr Fuchs as the intensity of his writing, the fleshing out of his characters and visualizations have risen to such a high level that I thought I was actually in the action. Come on now Michael, we know you're a great writer but you've kicked it up a couple notches.
This visit to the ZA introduces a lot of the characters you've enjoyed in the past and creates a backstory for the US Navy and Marine Raider personnel. You even get to see how Gunny Fick gets out-Ficked on a couple occasions.
If you didn't want the stories from this zombie apocalypse to end, you need to jump on this story and continue the wild ride through the Zulu Alpha.
Great second book! The story picks up with Yaz alive and coming back. The world has ended so this fleet has to stay alive. This means they need supplies and trips to get them mean engaging with the dead and other survivors. Yaz is a character that could be any of us. Wanting to fit in and be part of a team. The story is fast paced and impossible to put down. I look forward to the next book in this awesome series.
I am not loving these as much as I did the rest of the series. I feel like the main character we are following is becoming a little whiny - I am tired of his "voice" and his constant worrying about fitting in and failing. The books are short and I am not a fan of short stories. Lastly, and I am so hesitant to say this but it's the truth, the Fickisms are feel forced and over the top. I cringed over several of them. What was hilarious in the main novels now feel like too much of a good thing, I guess. I am sorry to write a negative review about a book series I have loved and auto-purchased every time one became available but I try always to be honest in my reviews. 2 stars means "it was ok" according to Goodreads and that's how I feel.
Edit: Just took a look at other reviews and I see I am the only negative as of now. Well, I stand by my thoughts and if sales drop off for the next book, maybe I am not the only one who felt this way and perhaps my comments could be helpful. Who knows?
This book is just another great chapter in the Arisen world, one that’s full of dead people who just what you to join their ranks. This book takes us to beautiful Hawaii in search of food stores to maintain the fleet where the undead just never stop coming no matter how much lead you throw at them. Then off to mysterious Singapore for Ammo so the fleet can effect another search for food as they are never more than seventy days away from being out of food. It’s a fun read hat I found most enjoyable. I own all the arisen books as I love the story line and the authors way of putting it to print.
Master Guns Ficks is back in full living Technicolor and Surround Sound.
From the deck of the aircraft carrier, the JFK, to the sweltering heat of Singapore, the Marines are holding the line to keep the survivors alive. Gunny Ficks throws some new one-liners at whatever poor grunt deserves some praise. This storyline includes some great dialogue and witty Fickisms along with some heart stopping action and amazing combat sequences. Another terrific romp through the Zombie Apocalypse. Wonderful characters and blistering action show the end of the world in sharp relief.
This is another masterpiece that needs reading! Get chu some!
Out-f-ing-standing! Can literally never get enough of Master Gunny Fick. The author does such an outstanding job on the characters and dialogue it cannot be overstated. The plot and the action never leaves you disappointed, and Fick alone will have you cracking up laughing wherever you happen to be listening/reading at the time. This author/series is definitely in my top 3 zombie series'.
In addition: the second part continues to ramp up (although, I'm not sure where part 1 ended and part 2 began) and the character arc with Yaz develops even further, both good and bad. Really hoping the next part of this sub-series doesn't take much longer to get here.
If the Carrier got the best Nuc Mam's ET's and EM's wouldn't logic dictate that they got the best SK's AB's, and Deck Apes? So why would they have issues with Underway Sea Reps? The best AirBoss wouldn't have let the Helo pilots get jammed up over the flight deck if the unloading crew were having issues. I get that they needed the tension to push the Batcopter to do something rash, but the logic didn't work.
Plenty of action, a mile a minute, still don’t like the doctor.
I enjoy the camaraderie of the Marines, I enjoy the action sequences, you don’t know who lives or dies. Still not like Yaz because I think he’s a bonehead. There are things he does in this book that I didn’t care for no spoilers. Well worth the read give it a shot excellent as always.
This is another excellent chapter in this entertaining, outstanding post-appocalyptic action/thriller series. After so many books, or would expect the storyline to diminish. Absolutely not! Quality writing, interesting characters, and terrific action continues!!
After a virus has turned much of the population to zombies and navy fleet is humanities last hope. But they are low on food and supplies and need weaponry to survive. Engaging in difficult missions putting crew in danger. Medic Yaz is keen to become a member of the navy tribe. Have read no 1 and 2 engaging but feel ike that's enough.
Another excellent book with the familiar characters. I find the army and sailor life fascinating, look forward to the next to find out how they're going to survive and beat the undead
I’ve been here since Arisen 1 Volume 1 and haven’t been disappointed yet. Blistering action starring authentic human beings. The perfect thrill ride. As always!
MSF has got to be one of the best Zombie Apocalypse writer ever! I've read the first Arisen series twice and just finished the new one (can't wait for the next book in the series!). Thank you for this!
Still have CoVid and it caused me to get pink eye in both eyes. Good story. Kept me entertained. Very disappointed when it was over because then I will have to find another book. Really like the medic for this expedition. Going to have to look at more of the series.
I enjoyed this story, but not as much as the first one. It is very interesting to go back and see how life on the carrier evolved before the Arisen books!
Absolutely riveting series. Tribes is another exciting story with great characters that you become attached to. Plenty of drama and action throughout the book. Love it !
Such a great start to a series I just couldn't st reading it.need the next installment out now please only question I have is when does book 3 come out?
The action slows down a bit, but still a fun read with interesting characters. I was a Corpsman with the Marines in 1963 & 64. Fun memories and great times.
Good book I enjoyed it. I like the military fighting zombies and gangs. I would like to see what happens if they reach the oil rigs and the other areas they talked about going to in the book.
These books are so exciting. Downtime for these marines is rare, short, and often spent getting ready for the next mission. I can't wait to see how the next one goes.
