A Walk in the Boreal Forest by Rebecca L. Johnson
1. Genre: Informational
2. A Walk in the Boreal Forest is a beautifully done non-fiction book that describes this habitat in a way that keeps children engaged and intrigued.
3. a. Area for Comment: Organization
b. My 7 year old daughter snatched this book out of my pile of new books to review from the library. She took about 45 minutes and read the entire book. There is a perfect balance of artful photography and interesting text, captions, and fact boxes.
c. Most of the boreal forest animals described in the book have a descriptive paragraph, a real life photograph, and an interesting fact noted in the sidebar. I think this type of organization is perfect for a youth non-fiction book that is backed with so many details.

Good book, but contains 2 errors on 2 animals that live in the boreal forest biome. Working on notifying publisher.

Concise with lots of pictures and examples of what is discussed. Will likely use in future for my daughter's school. Only thing I won't be letting her read is the last page about global warming, and how the cars and electric are killing the planet.

This was a decent, basic book for about 9 years old and under. My complaint is that it's only focused on the boreal forests in North American and doesn't include info on the boreal forests elsewhere.

Another one that I am reading with my 3rd grader. It is good nonfiction for the target age. I do think some section headings could improve the text.

Beautiful real and sketched pictures with just enough information to make this a great resource for the reader to still enjoy as a picture book.

I try and research as much as I can before I purchase books. I was convinced this was a living book for our biomes study and unfortunately, I can’t say that’s true. However, the pictures are great. I’m collecting a few more books to round out our biomes study and will use the other two books I purchased in this series: Deciduous Forest and Tundra as supplemental for pictures mostly. The content is pretty dry.
