Hawkins #2

Texas Passions

When old enemies of ex-Texas Ranger John Hawkins seek revenge against him and his wife, they steal their young son, Texas, and his little sister, Honor. John and Tess have become pawns in a cruel game meant to lure them into a deadly confrontation. But John, a half-breed known as "Hawk" to many, is not a man to be wronged. And Tess, a daring woman with amazing courage, will stop at nothing to save her children. Now, with danger at ever turn, they bravely follow their son and daughter wherever their cries lead--sacrificing everything to save their family with an indomitable love--one powerful enough to overcome even the most overwhelming odds.

I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. My best sellers are my SAVAGE DESTINY series (7 books) and my OUTLAW HEARTS series. See my website (www.rosannebittner.com) for details on all my books - most available for Kindle and in print. I am known for great love stories filled with real history and high emotion. I have also written many Native American stories, all based on real history.

I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.

National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

I don't always find a sequel to be a favorite - especially not over the first part of the story, but Rosanne Bittner sure breaks my mold on this one! Don't get me wrong, I love the first part of John and Tess's story (Texas Embrace - you really can't miss out on reading it) - but I find myself enjoying this glimpse into their lives years later better than the first. There just seems to be something so powerful about the "as long as we both shall live" kinda love that is often left out of stories now days.

The drama, adventure, love and emotions with these two will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last! John is one of the best heroes (handsome, strong, real manly)- willing to do anything and go to any length to protect his family, and I just can't help but admire Tess and her strength and love she has for her man and children!!

This book will always be on my keeper shelf!

A captivating western romance full of dramatic choices in a land and time when law vs lawless, good vs evil, honor vs cowardice. No one can tell a story better than Rosanne Bittner that pulls you into the pages of her stories with such memorable characters.
While this is the second story in this series it can be read as a standalone. This is another book to join my list of favorites!

Meh...

The entire first half of this book is repeating the first book, but over and over. And over. And then a paragraph of now, then in case you forgot you'll get another reminder. At the halfway point is when this book actually starts. A bit disappointed but still a good, quick read from my favorite author.

Although it's book 2

It can be read as a stand alone. It wasn't hard to connect the characters. I will say that there was alot of a sexually overtone, from prositues, to rape. I didn't connect to the characters as I did in the authors other books.

Very good sequel to Texas Embrace. One should definitely read these two books in order as the second does not focus on a second character from the first book as most sequels of this genre do. This is a continuation of the story hero/heroine from the first book about 8 years later. Much less romance and more of a western. Because the hero/heroine married in the first book the romance is a bit more about mature love. Most of all, the book focuses on revenge with kidnapping. The hero, John Hawkins, is just as "stealth" and capable in his rescuing and resourceful ways as in the first book.

In both books, there is a fair amount of blood and guts scenes, not for the squeamish. I think John Hawkins' tracking, rescuing and defensive skills might be compared to some of the old Steven Segal movies or even the Navy Seals of today. Very action-packed.

So I picked this book up off the table in the break room and started reading it as something to do during lunch. It was actually pretty good. I have always been skeptical of romance novels, but now I truly know not to judge a book by it's cover.
