I adore the fact that the book never tells the reader the solution to the mystery here! Letting the reader figure it out (or not) was a great choice here. Yes, it's obvious to adult readers, but kids may have to use those developing brains to figure it out, and that's awesome! I must say that all the boys at Louanne's school are a little odd, but I guess that's the point.

Louanne Pig in The Mysterious Valentine by Nancy Carlson is about Louanne, a pig, who found a Valentine in her mailbox on Valentine’s Day. It was addressed from A Secret Admirer. She has no idea who sent it but knows it was someone with a green pen. She was determined to find her secret admirer. Louanne began to snoop around and searched all day for the one animal with a green pen. Hopefully not all is lost and Louanne will be able to find the one with the green pen.

This book is a short read but very cute and mysterious. It is perfect for reading to young children or even with them. The illustrations in the book are very colorful and detailed with a square board around them, separating the pictures from the text. From Louanne’s rose colored cheeks to George’s bright polka-dot sweater, the colors really pop out and keep you interested in the book. This is a great mystery book that gives clues to help the reader figure out who Louanne’s admirer is. Even though there is some guessing involved, it is still perfect for getting young readers involved and guessing.

This was a cute story about receiving a valentine with a little mystery added to it. I love how the author gave you the idea of who it was without actually saying it. It will make kids look at the pictures and figure out the mystery on their own. I will definitely recommend this to my friends.
