Son roman La Voie du Sabre (adaptée en bande dessinée aux éditions Glénat) a reçu le Prix Julia Verlanger en 2003. Il mêle fréquemment des éléments fantastiques à ses récits, et se caractérise par un imaginaire très documenté et une écriture percutante. Infatigable voyageur, il aime tout particulièrement l’Asie du sud-est, les Rocheuses et l’Ecosse. Quand il n’écrit pas, il travaille comme directeur de collection dans une grande maison d’édition. Qué obra de arte. Cuánto talento. Cuánta magia encierra Wika.
No creo que este año llegue a leerme algo que me deje tan boquiabierta. Un cómic al que dediqué un domingo entero porque hay que cogerlo a sorbitos y admirar cada detalle del dibujo; los fondos y la infinidad de detalles.
Wika es un despliegue de color y magia. Como si todas esas historias clásicas con las que hemos crecido brotaran de repente ante nuestros ojos. Los cuentos de hadas malvadas. La fantasía retorcida de los hermanos Grimm. La locura de Alicia. La magia de Peter Pan. Todo con una ambientación steampunk y una narrativa clásica que encaja a la perfección.
Wika tiene todo lo que me gusta encontrar en una historia.
Y me preguntaréis: ¿El guion está a la altura?
Y os podría responder que da igual el guión con semejante arte. Pero sí, la historia casa muy bien con el dibujo. Es fantasía clásica de la buena y gustará a todo amante de la fantasía.
Entiendo que haya gente a la que el dibujo le eche para atrás precisamente por lo recargado y detallado que es. Pero insisto; dadle una oportunidad. Sin prisas. Abridlo y disfrutad. El viaje merecerá la pena.
De momento, se sitúa a la cabeza de los mejores comics del año. Y será difícil que algún otro le quite el puesto.
Gracias a Yermo Ediciones por publicar esta joyita en una edición inmejorable que no me cansaré de recomendar. Como veis en las fotos, el cómic incluye páginas desplegables. Una locura 🤩

Already the end of this fairy-tale and mechanical trilogy!
Massive battles of steam-powered machines, explosions, and warring folkloric creatures: this perfectly sums up the third volume. It is a visual spectacle from start to finish, which suits an epic conclusion perfectly.
The comic even allows itself the bold choice of changing format for just a few pages. At several points, the layout shifts to a vertical reading, and in the middle of the battlefield the reader is treated to a folded quadruple-page spread. I have to admit I did not expect these formal experiments. On one hand, they show just how much the two creators of this story had to say; on the other, my slightly nitpicky side had the feeling that there was almost too much to tell for the comic format, to the point where some clever tricks were needed to make everything fit.
I also found the relationship between Wika and her cousin (yes, you read that right) to be rather abrupt, with no real explanation for their sudden closeness, aside from Wika’s new power and Rage’s seductive appearance. Moreover, I do not recall seeing a clear explanation for this openly depicted incest within the universe, unless there is an unconscious desire to mirror the relationship between Wika’s mother and her lover’s father, who are twins but had a child together.
I also felt that the ending came very quickly and was less epic than the rest of the volume.
Overall, the series remains excellent, but such a rich universe, populated by so many characters and brought to an end after only three volumes, represents a real narrative challenge. It is not easy to give each character their moment and their resolution. This is probably why this final volume felt somewhat rushed to me, almost constrained by the demands of the trilogy format. That slight sense of frustration ultimately stems from the attachment I developed to this universe.
It is a magnificent saga that I am delighted to have discovered. It stands as a beautiful tribute to Celtic folklore, steampunk aesthetics, and to the fairies I am particularly fond of. Never have these winged creatures felt so badass, without the slightest hint of mawkishness, as they are firmly rooted in a solid and captivating world.

"Bio jednom, u Kraljevstvu vilenjaka, jedan princ slomljenog srca."
Vika je jedno od osveženja na našoj strip sceni. U pitanju je grafički roman iz žanra epske fantastike, ali u stimpank stilu.
Priča prati Viku, vilu koja od trenutka rodjenja upada u nemilosrdni rat koji je prati tokom odrastanja. Vidimo devojčicu koja odrasta, u početku nesvesna svega, da bi postepeno saznala detalje svoje prošlosti. Vika, sada mlada žena, mora se izboriti za pravdu, spas naroda i zemlje, ali i za sopstveni život.
Crtež i boje su unikatni, maštoviti i zaista fantastični. Dosta je detalja, pa će vam pogled šetati od jedne do druge ilustracije tokom celog čitanja.
Što se tiče scenarija, mislim da je mogao biti za nijansu bolji. Radnja je zanimljiva, inspirisana nekim od najboljih radova fantastike i različitih mitologija, što se lako primeti u toku čitanja. Dijalozi su takodje zanimljivi, uz poneku smešnu doskočicu ili žargonski izraz. Priča sadrži napete delove, prikaze rata, spletki, emotivne delove, kao i one pune humora. Medjutim, meni je tu ipak falilo nešto. Uz to sam imao osećaj da je priča mogla biti duža. Svakako, to nije umanjilo utisak koji je vrlo dobar.
Mislim da je ovde ostavljeno prostora za još priča. Autori su kreirali veliki univerzum koji ima potencijala za još radova. To se može videti i na mapi sveta koju vidimo na početku i kraju stripa. Nadam se da će taj potencijal nekad i iskoristiti, a čitaocima pružiti još neku priču iz svog izmaštanog sveta.
Sve u svemu, vrlo dobar grafički roman koji je kod nas podeljen u dva toma. Za ljubitelje stimpanka, fantastike i perverzno dobrih crteža - preporuka.

Ce dernier album de la trilogie conclue à merveille cette histoire féerique. Les scènes de batailles sont époustouflantes et épiques, l'une d'elle est tellement grande qu'on doit la déplier. La présence du dieu Pan sur des planches orientées en format portrait sur les deux pages donne une certaine prestance au dieu et permet de renforcer la transcendantalité et l'aspect cosmique de ces passages de communication avec les puissances supérieures. On appréciera la puissance des détails des dessins et la poésie du texte imbriqués dans des rouages aussi bien dessinés que posés sur le dessin. Cet album conclue un chef-d'œuvre.

Fin de la trilogie dans une explosion de couleurs, d'inventivité et de beauté. La double page dépliable est spectaculaire, folle de détails et d'action. Le scénariste n'oublie pas les clins d'oeil et les touches d'humour. Ce travail combiné illustrations/histoire devient une sorte d'expérience steampunk inédite.

Tegningerne forbliver sindsygt flotte, men de store folde-ud plancher bliver ikke udnyttet, og man mærker en træthed fra både tegner og forfatter.
Historien degenererer til alt for meget "fortæl det" fremfor "vis det".
Det virker som oom de havde planlagt 4 bind, men simpelthen ikke orkede mere, så nu skal den bare afsluttes.

Énorme coup de cœur pour les illustrations, chaque page est un véritable tableau, avec une quantité de détails hallucinante !

Ik vind het nog steeds mooi gemaakt maar het is belachelijk hoe vaak je kan sterven en terug opstaan. Ik moet zeggen veel plak en stukwerk met andere sprookjes zoals Doornroosje...
Wel een soort van Happy Ending fixen maar het is te belachelijk voor woorden wat er moest gebeuren voor de Happy Ending.
Oorlog heeft enkel verliezers en op bepaalde punten, kan je dit in de strip zien maar het had door moeten worden getrokken om het verhaal geloofwaardiger te maken.
Wel een soort van Happy Ending fixen maar het is te belachelijk voor woorden wat er moest gebeuren voor de Happy Ending.

In deze strip weet het hoofdpersonage een tweede maal te sterven, maar toch weer niet. Een cliché dat oud begint te worden. Ietwat teleurstellend einde van deze franchise. Veel geschiet en gebombardeer, maar bitter weinig plot.
