I personally recommend this book! The only thing I didn’t like about it is that it does spit out a lot of facts and details so it is hard for me to keep up. But other then that I highly recommend this book. I am a DOG LOVER! Dogs are like my favorite things to play with. If I could choose I would just spend every day my hole life spending time with dogs. READ THIS BOOK if you’re a dog lover!

A world's wealth of information about dogs hits in an easy to digest way, while letting the wide diversity of dogs shine.

Divided into continents, this book introduces the various types of dogs coming from around the world. Each chapter starts with a very basic map of the continent and a list of dogs, which will be presented (the list does not demonstrate the order in which they are presented, though). Then, each dog receives (usually) a quarter page devoted to it. A brief paragraph or two describes the attributes, habits, special traits, and general dispositions of the dogs. There's a quick-glance rubric, which lists the country of origin, size, coat and personality. Each dog is illustrated in an easy-to-recognize manner as well.

This is a wealth of information on dogs for children. Not only are the dogs each explored, but there are also bit describing the dog anatomy, behaviors, and more. It holds many known and lesser known breeds as well as a couple of mixes. The text is direct but written in an enjoyable manner, and easy for the age level to understand. Each breed is put in a very positive light, making this one which celebrates dogs of all types and kinds (and many are more than adorable).

The illustrations are simple, bright and do their job. My daughter was disappointed that photos aren't included, since true dog lovers do enjoy seeing the dogs...not just illustrations of them. But this does get the job done, too, and makes each one recognizable

Dog fans will have tons of information at their fingertips and get to know the world of dogs well. I received a complimentary copy and found the information very well done.

If you love dogs, learning about dogs, and learning about the places they live and originate from, this is the book for you.

Divided up by continent each section starts with a two page map showing the continent, and each dog that originates from it, that will be discussed. Each dog has one page or half a page devoted to them with a history of the breed and characteristics such as personality traits and size.

There are also separate sections devoted to different types of dogs, such as Finding and Fetching Dogs where some of the dogs who fit that characteristic are described. You learn about how much the dogs have in common as well as differences.

There were also many dog breeds in this book I had never heard of, so learning about them was fascinating. One example was the Barbet, a French water dog and relative of the Poodle.

The illustrations are vibrant, detailed and fun. They are all drawn, and show the dogs in various poses, and with varying expressions, they really animate the dogs.

This is just a fun book to flip through, you will learn so much about these dogs.

Ok, I didn't read this from cover to cover, but I read large bits and pieces throughout and I'm a huge fan! I learned so many cool things about different dog breeds! My favorite fact is that dog nose prints are wholly unique, just like human fingerprints : ) A perfect addition for elementary school libraries. I also selectively fact checked parts of the book since there aren't any professional reviews that I could find and found the facts I checked to be accurate. Evans does a great job mentioning when breed origin stories might be conjecture, or sharing when things are still being researched etc. This is jam packed full of information and charming illustrations. Highly recommend! There's a great glossary and index, but no sources listed which is part of why I did some fact checking.

Everything you want to know dogs, organized by their place of origin. Great book to browse, maps, fun fact sections, etc. I checked for my favorite dog, border collie; the index was very helpful, although the page numbers for border collie weren’t in order and some pages didn’t mention a border collie specifically, just a sheepdog. Don’t know if there are other inconsistencies like this. Glossary was good. No source notes or further reading sections, which makes me wonder about the authority of the book, just a disclaimer on the verso. Also interesting is that the illustrator is mentioned first in the title page, not the author. Still and all, young dog lovers will enjoy the cute illustrations and fun facts about canines.

Brief introductions to all (?) of the dog breeds. Loads of lesser known breeds. The illustrations are drawings and some of the descriptions tend toward traits that seem phrased more as opinion.
Good book for 10 and up who want to know a little about a lot of dogs or get brief introductions to breeds they do not know.
One complaint for the creators if they check reviews of their book. The text was difficult to read against the darker backgrounds such as purple. I suggest a switch.

A super fun dog book featuring all sorts of breeds + special information (like show dogs or special things dog did or spotlight on certain dogs). I really loved that it wasn't just breeds and more breeds, but that we also got those spotlights on dogs! And I loved how the breeds were shown. By part of the world. And then with fun information + fun backgrounds. Some got a lot of information, some got a bit less, but all of them had enough so you knew what kind of dog you had in front of you. I loved that we got some character key words, that is very handy.

I am still looking for a dog and this one gave me inspiration for many more breeds that I would love to have. Now to just hope that the shelter has them one day. XD

I would highly recommend this book!
