Rate this book

From USA Today Bestseller Wendy Vella comes an exciting Regency series about legend, love and destiny, with a hint of magic …

Two things happen to Harry Sinclair the day his ship docks in London: he saves a woman in distress, and meets his long- lost family.

Until now Harry has lived his life without betraying the vow he made to his father - never trust a Sinclair. Yet when his newly discovered cousins step aboard his ship he knows that everything is about to change.

Suddenly, he has a family he has no wish for, and an answer to why he is different.

Harry battles to keep himself distant, but when the woman he rescued, Madeline Caron, is discovered to be part of his family’s life, he is drawn closer. Closer to her and closer to something he’s always secretly craved – love and belonging. He fights hard against the depth of feeling he has for her, but when Maddie is kidnapped, he learns what truly is a living nightmare – the prospect of life without her.

Young widow Madeline Caron fled France for London with her young daughter, and a terrible secret – she believes she has killed a man in self-defense. Her brothers, oblivious to her traumatic past, offer her sanctuary and a life she never dreamed possible. However, there is always the fear that her past could come calling if she lets down her guard.

With Harry, Maddie finds something she’d never known before, earth-shattering passion and a deep connection. But they both carry scars from their past. Can they overcome them and step into the future together?

When danger from her past threatens her life, Harry bravely risks all to guard and protect her. But will they be able to trust themselves, and their hearts, to build a life together as two outsiders who found each other?

I just love this series! I find the family interaction very entertaining, the teasing banter and sarcasm but also the way they look out for each other. Harry Sinclair is the latest cousin to be discovered. Unfortunately, Harry doesn’t want anything to do with the family due to an old grievance of his father. He meets Maddie Caron, when he assists her in getting to London. They are both quite stubborn and have been used to fending for themselves and they find the boisterous family overwhelming at times. There is a mystery concerning Maddie’s mother and why Maddie left France. Also the growing romance between Maddie and Henry, but Henry is reluctant to believe in love. His grandmother is a force to be reckoned with! There are a number of dangerous moments and some humourous times. Altogether a great read. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Love. Love. Love this series!! This is the eighth book in the Sinclair and Ravens series, and they keep getting better and better! Intrigue, witty dialogue, sparking romance, family love, alpha heroes, and feisty heroines are just a few of the things you will find in this series. Each book can be read standalone, but they are so awesome that once you read one, you will want to read them all! This series is the series I go back to every time I find myself bored or tired of reading the same troupes over and over again. The books are unique and refreshing no matter how many times I read them. The characters are amazing and their love for their family is incredible. The plots are always great and there are always a few twists and turns included with some intrigue.
This book is the story of Harry Sinclair who is a cousin to the Sinclair family. He wants nothing to do with the Sinclair family because his father had always said to “never trust a Sinclair.” His ship was in Calais and was about to leave for England when he sees a woman and a child on the docks. His instincts forced him to help her and give her passage on his ship. Once they reached England, he thought he would never see her again. Then the Sinclair family introduced themselves and even though he tried, he couldn’t ignore them.
Madeline Caron was fleeing France and her past. Once she reaches London and reunited with her brothers (Max and Rory Huntington), she is introduced to her Raven half-sisters and half-brother. She is overwhelmed by the Sinclair and Raven’s love for each other and their willingness to include her as one of their own. She slowly relaxes her guard and feels safe, when her past catches up to her in London.
Will the history of a Raven marrying the Sinclair that saves them continue? You will have to read the book to find out!

Absolutely wonderful!

It has taken me, approx. 1 week to read the entire Sinclair and Raven books, and I couldn’t be more sad that I have no more to read. This series has it all, suspense, comedy, passion, family and of course love. I am so glad that I have happened to come across these wonderfully written books. You will not be wasting your time reading this series!!!

A New Sinclair

Harry Sinclair has lived his life told to never trust a Sinclair. Meeting his cousins has opened his eyes to his abilities and what it means to have a family, to love. His father's words will not let him accept what is being offered, the love of a family and the love of Maddie, Fleur, and Daisy. A new world and a new adventure.

I am hoping this is not the end of the series. There are still younger ones to finish growing up. Harry is a Sinclair and Maddie is the sister to Rory and Max which makes her the sister to the duke. Harry has always been on his own. Maddie has her daughter to take care of and does not need anyone else. Can they realize the big family they have met can be what they want. Then they also have to realize they need each other.

More cousins!!!

Of course, everyone has cousins. Between the Raven and Sinclair families, the cousin count is growing rather dramatically!

Every single one of these books just adds to the series. While they can be read alone, I find it is much more fun to reread them from the beginning.

Awesome as always! ❤❤❤❤❤

Harry Sinclair is the son of the family “black sheep” -- he was raised to believe that no Sinclair other than his father could be trusted. Harry Sinclair is no different than his cousins though when it comes to his senses -- he too has a special gift. In Guarding Danger he is faced with a dilemma of embracing the family he has always desired or betraying the memory of his father.

It is not only the family connection Harry desires, but a woman he seems destined to protect and love.

Madeline “Maddie” Caron has a secret -- one that has sent her fleeing her home and country with her young daughter. Much like Harry, Maddie has a family she must learn to trust again. Throughout this story she finds love in more ways than one, but finding the belief that she deserves it is more difficult for her. Can she move past her past?

As always, the Sinclair/Raven clan is filled with love, happiness and witty banter. And they will not give up on the ones they love!

Will this Sinclair and Raven couple find a happy ending in family and love? You have to read to find out… And I highly recommend you do! This is the 8th book in the series and now one of my favorites. I couldn’t put this one down -- again, Wendy Vella has written a story filled with love, family and friendships. Not only are her characters physically saved, but often (and at times, more importantly) they are emotionally saved.

I recommend reading the series in order -- one, because the series is fabulous and two, because you meet the characters that fill the pages. This is one of the things I love about Vella’s writing! Not only do I love this series, but her Langley series as well. I’m always interested to see if and how she will bridge the two series!

I was absolutely thrilled when I found out Guarding Danger was ready for reading & once started it, I could not put in down nor could I get to the next page fast enough. Wendy Vella gives the reader great details about her characters, engaging dialogue, just the right amount of humor, some danger or mystery and genuinely touching scenes with friends and family. You will feel as though you are there with the characters - this really has everything you could want in a romantic read.

Harry Sinclair wants nothing to do with the Sinclair family - his father left London with Harry's mother and growing up, his father always said "never trust a Sinclair". Now after docking in London, the Sinclair men have appeared on his ship and introduced themselves- he is cordial but wants nothing to do with them but that is easier said than done and especially after he meets the entire family. His world is about to change completely!

After escaping France and buying cheap passage offered to London on a ship owned by Harry Sinclair, Madeline Caron was there to be reunited with her brothers, Max & Rory Huntington. Maddie with her daughter, Fleur also meet her 1/2 sisters and 1/2 brother - the Ravens. She is very leary at first and has never been around such luxury with servants and cannot believe the love between the Sinclair & Raven families and how they have accepted her as one on the family.

Harry and Maddie will meet again and the adventures, danger, romance and family influence makes for an amazing story with a HEA you will love! Together they will discover the Sinclairs special gifts and also, the fact that Sinclairs save Ravens and often marry them.

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

Love or the sea

Harry has a gift but all his life he's been told don't trust a Sinclair! Maddie arrives from France to escape her past and find James and her other brother! Maddie had a barely okay marriage and has never known love! Harry has his grandmother but no really close relatives until now! When he gives Maddie safe passage to London he saves her and Fleur life! Harry is swept like a tidal wave into the Raven fold and wants to run away! Remembering his fathers words over and over Harry is wary of trusting the Sinclair's but they draw him in like a bucket leaving a deep well a little at a time! Frustrated at Maddie behavior as she keeps secrets even after getting herself in danger then her secrets create danger for others! But when danger threatens not only Maddie but Rose and another cousin as well! Harry can't sail to France and leave the only woman he's ever loved or can he?? Nonstop action! Wendy has done it again!!!

What I love most about this series is how the Sinclair/Raven families get more intricate every time. Unlike some romance series the rest of the family is not just left out of the book or given a few minutes of screen time to appease fans, no they are completely intertwined in the story. Even though these are individual books about specific couples and the villains change, the characters are so bound up in each other's lives, older characters are embedded in the books.
It was wonderful to meet Maddie. Max and Rory both mention her enough that finally seeing her was perfect and learning even more about their mother was creepy.
I was a little annoyed with Harry. He spends much of the book admitting that just maybe his family is not so bad while his reasons for not joining them amount to , "I don't wanna!" But he does wind up being worthy of Maddie.
I can't wait to see what is next for the clan.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

OMG, I love this series! Guarding Danger is a spectacular historical romance by Wendy Vella. Ms. Vella once again wowed me with her storytelling abilities. This well-written book is packed with phenomenal characters. Harry owns a shipping business and grew up with his father telling him "Never trust a Sinclair." When his Sinclair cousins discover him he can't help but like them. Madeline is fleeing to England to find her brother with her young daughter in tow. Harry and Madeline's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I loved every page of this book and look forward to my next book by Wendy Vella. Guarding Danger is book 8 of the Sinclair and Raven Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I cannot say it enough; Wendy Vella is fantastic! I love every historical romance, so perhaps I'm a bit biased. But, she continues to knock it out of the park with every book I read by her. I'm looking forward to.more from her on the Sinclair and Raven families. I've loved watching them grow throughout the course of each novel.

Thanks again Wendy!

Love this series

So happy to that Wendy is continuing with this series. This book is about Raven blood Maddie snd Sinclair blood Harry. They meet when Harry offers passage to England to Maddie and her young daughter Fluer. She is fleeing France to find her brothers in London. We see how the families embrace these two as their love grows. The families circle their own and protect each other at all cost. It is not an easy road especizlly for Harry who fought the attachment from the first meeting. Maddie continues to grow stronger as the weeks go by but Harry couldbe quite frustrating in his derermiation to deny Maddie and family. There is lots of love, mystery, suspense and intrigue.

Finding Family & Love

Another wonderful book in the series! Wendy Vella has done it again. Maddie was running for her life with her child and needed to get to her brothers and England. Harry was going to England and could tell she needed help.
Maddie gets to England and finds her brothers then finds out she has more siblings. When Harry docks in England he finds 3 men looking at him from another ship and when confronted he finds out they are his cousins. He continually remembers his dads dying wish don’t trust the other Sinclair’s.
He realizes Maddie is tied to his family. When her life is threatened from someone unknown can they protect her. A beautiful ending to an incredible series. Loved the bonus chapters to see their life.

Review of The Series

The entire series is wonderfully written. Each character has been fully defined with back history, in great detail that makes meeting for the first time a pleasure, even when some of the characters need to grow on you! Better yet every book has a happy ending. I will never lost spoilers so just let me say I am very happy to have found Wendy Bella and this series, she has quickly become a favorite author and the series - spectacular!! You will not be disappointed.

Guarding Danger is the eighth book in Wendy Vella’s excellent Sinclair and Raven series. The series is based on the premise that the Sinclair family over the generations have been pledged to protect members of the Raven family and in doing so have developed certain paranormal abilities that help in their quest to uphold their familial oath.
Even though this is part of a series the book can be read as a stand-alone, although I would recommend going back and reading the rest to get a better understanding.
Harry Sinclair has been raised in France, estranged from his family. His father had harboured great bitterness against the family that cast him out and had made Harry vow to never trust the Sinclairs all his life. Harry has certain abilities and has grown up knowing he is different but unable to confide in anyone. Now a successful man in his own right, he owns a fleet of ships amongst other interests.
When he sees a young woman and her child sitting on the quay on one of his trips to England something compels him to offer his assistance in helping her safe passage across the waters. Harry does not know what draws him to her, but he finds himself in the position of saving her more than once. Upon reaching England, Harry finds himself entangled with the Sinclairs who welcome him with open arms and when he discovers that Madeline is a Raven, Harry has a choice to make. Can he turn his back on the vow he made to his father or embrace his destiny?
Madeline Caron is fleeing a desperate situation with her young daughter and seeking sanctuary with her brothers in England. Embraced by her brothers and her extraordinary extended family Maddie struggles to accept that she might be finally be safe. Harry comes into her life like a guardian angel and she knows they have a deep connection. But can she convince Harry that they are deserving of a happy life together?
I liked this book very much. Both Harry and Maddie have had difficult pasts [Maddie more than Harry, I think] and it takes time for them to trust in each other, their families and themselves. Maddie is a lovely heroine; she has suffered much but stayed strong. It took her time to trust in her family but when she does, it is lovely to see her slowly start to blossom into the confident and cheerful woman she was meant to be.
Harry was so stubborn! He is such a great hero. Strong, honourable and great with kids! What more could you ask for? His interactions with Fleur and Daisy are adorable and the banter with the Sinclairs [especially Cam] amusing. He just took far too long to realise what course he should be taking.
Wendy has created a special family in the Sinclair and Ravens and it is always great to see their journey. Their teasing of each other and their protecting of each other felt so natural. And special mention must go to Heloise, Harry’s grandmother. She is definitely a character! Fleur and Daisy steal your heart. The story continues at a fast pace and there is plenty of drama and humour along with the romance. There is a suitably horrible villain and a satisfying punishment at the end.
I received an ARC of this novel, but the opinions are entirely my own. I would definitely recommend you pick this up and the others in the series. Also love the dedication Wendy – so lovely and appropriate.

Always Trust Your Heart

“Never trust a Sinclair” was the repeated mantra drummed into Harry Sinclair's mind from childhood by his angry and bitter father. Sadly his indoctrination becomes a very big problem when Harry finally meets his long lost Sinclair family, which includes the first woman to capture his attention in a very long time.

I have read and enjoyed each marvelous book within the Sinclair and Raven series and I am still in love with this blended family of unique characters.

Guarding Danger continues the story of the Sinclair-Raven clan with the same level of entertainment and engrossing danger as the previous books. In this latest offering by Wendy Vella, both of the main characters are from damaged beginnings that have cemented their distorted beliefs. Thankfully, they each ultimately discover that love has the power to overcome pride and stubbornness, even within the hardest heart. Not only did the story, dialogue and plot twists keep my attention, I also really enjoyed the sweet ending and epilogue.

Content 411: This book contains both religious and secular swearing, as well as a moderately described sexually intimate scene.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.

It’s both a blessing and a curse when I get to the end of a book to discover that I enjoyed it so much that I have no words to explain my experience. Harry and Maddie grew up in ways that would warp even the strongest amongst us, so it’s no surprise they have difficulties recognizing the rare gift they could have in one another. I really liked both of these characters, though their stubborn insistence on wanting nothing to do with one another got a bit frustrating after a while. As with the previous books in the series, my favorite parts were all the family interactions. If you’re dealing with one Sinclair or one Raven, you get all of both clans for your troubles. And while they can be a lot to take as a concentrated group, I wouldn’t want them any other way.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

There’s nobody quite like Harry

This is the last book (that I know of unless we jump to Samantha and the kids as young adults) in the series and it was great!
Harry is my new book boyfriend and I love his “gift”.
My only complaint is as the series grows I feel the other couples need to step back and let the new couple shine. Perhaps for this reason my fave book in the series is still the first.
