With both a cat and a dog, there's double the antics, double the fun (and double the kibble!) but while Inu and Neko coexist peacefully, they have their own distinct personalities, which play out in unexpected, charming ways during these short-form stories.
Whether you're a dog-person or a cat-person, there's plenty to love about these homegrown sketches of daily life shared with four-legged friends!
Hidekichi Matsumoto, a manga artist, owns both a dog and a cat. The dog, Inu, is sweetness itself, and the cat, Neko, is cute and cool. She draws her dog as kind of a loveable idiot, while the cat's portrayal is more.. sinister.
And so we have here a lovely collection of cartoons on the divergent personalities of her pets. There's nothing earth shattering here, but it does what it says on the tin, and sometimes that's exactly what you want.

This was very cute and made me feel all warm inside. Also has me wishing for a dog in my life right now and a cat! Would happily check out more volumes with Inu and Neko. This is the kind of manga you want to read when you are down in the slumps and need something light and cheery. There is one small sad instance in here, but it didn’t take away from the overall happiness I got from this manga!
Would totally recommend for those that loved Chi’s Sweet Home or Saphie the One eyed Cat! It’s a great little slice of life that shares an appreciation for the happiness that pets bring us.
Cute and really simple. Loved that the author also included the actual photos of her pets Inu and Neko in this book. I'd be interested to read more, it's a perfect little book to flip through when you're in a bad mood.

Funny and relatable. Although in my case it would be: With two Dogs AND two Cats, Every Day is more than fun 😁.
The author, Hidekichi Matsumoto, shows us how is to live with a dog and a cat. Some may think it's impossible, but believe it or no they can coexist quite well. Through the manga artist's sketches we can see how different Inu and Neko are, but despite their differences, they can live perfectly fine together. On the one hand, Inu is adorable and easygoing. He always wants to play and spend time with his human. On the other hand, Neko is a bit grumpy and he doesn't demonstrate affection in the same way a dog does. Let's say he seems indifferent, although he isn't at all. He's always watching carefully.
The ilustrations are cute, I like them! There are some pictures of Inu and Neko too.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
Did you enjoy A Man and his Cat but would like a few more laughs? Then do I have the book for you! With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun is a delightful, heartwarming, and very entertaining record of the author's life with her toy poodle and grumpy cat, detailing their differences and the joy that living with them brings. Each chapter about the cat ends with the same photo of him looking like he doesn't give a damn about anyone, and photos of both pets are placed throughout the volume as a special treat. The story is recognizable to anyone who has lived with multiple pets, and the bonus content of how she got each of them - bought the dog at a pet shop and rescued the cat when he was a kitten from a drain - and her increasing awareness of animal rescue help to fill out the plot. It's hard to overstate how much fun this is.
Hidekichi Matsumoto’s With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun, volume 1 is an adorable, funny, and lighthearted little book about the joys of daily life with beloved four-legged friends. The art style is simple but adorably charming and the little anecdotes are very relatable.
This is such a pleasant and happy read! I loved each and every relatable panel. The book consists of brief, simple, and easy-to-follow one-shot stories. I like that each story is somewhat self-contained so that you can just flip open the book at any point for a bit of fun and cuteness. Matsumoto sweetly and wonderfully captures the everyday adventures of living with both a dog and a cat. She makes even the most mundane of activities seem so humorous and fun! I loved seeing Matsumoto depict instances like her struggling to find a spot on the bed when the pets have taken over, the pets cheering her up in their own unique way, as well as the horrors of bath and grooming time and, of course, the challenges of taking a good pet picture. These are all familiar situations that pet owners from around the world can definitely relate to.
Inu the happy and excitable dog and Neko the stern and surly cat are really adorable and have very distinct personalities. Admittedly, the pets do have the fairly stereotypical dog and cat personalities but I think it’s true-to-life.
The artwork is simple, clean, and quite cute! Inu and Neko are precious and adorably expressive. Little Hidekichi is just darling and enthusiastic. I really like how the typography matches and nicely enhances things like the pets’ actions and Hidekichi’s emotions. But, I do wish some of the panels were more detailed. I also love that Matsumoto includes pictures of the real-life Inu and Neko!
With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun, volume 1 is a cute and entertaining read that will instantly brighten up your day. If you’re looking for a gentle laugh or an easy read, this book is perfect for you. I cannot wait to read the other entries in this series!

Thank you Vertical Comics and Netgalley for this e-arc.
Funny and refreshing story about the author living with her best companions, a dog, and a cat. This is my first time reading her work and I must say it didn't disappoint me. The illustrations are drawn candidly, which is pretty addictive for me to take all in. Besides, I love how this comic compiles one-shots of her daily routines with her cat and dog. Seemingly since this is the first volume, the author mostly introduces the characteristics of her pets; her bubbly dog named Inu and her Tsundere cat named Neko. Yes, you heard it right. Those two have contradicting personalities which makes this book pretty interesting and funnier. I wish I could read the next volume already. All in all, if you're an animal lover, then check this out!

This was super cute! I love both cats and dogs so reading this manga about someone having both was a joy. I really liked the artist’s drawing style!
I will say this was a bit harder to read purely because this was just a mix of short stories about this manga artist’s cat and dog, it wasn’t just a continuous story but a jumble of a ton of tiny stories.
It was still super enjoyable though! I definitely recommend this if you’re looking for an adorable read about the adventures of a cute little poodle and a mischievous cat!
It was a cute little story. I liked it, but it would be much better if there was more. Also I think everyone who has pets can understand this situations. It's relatable.

I really loved this. The small little photographs of the dog and the cat were so cute in between the stories and I thought it added so much personality from the artist to the comic.
I think the story is very cute. And even though I don't own both a cat and a dog I did relate to some of the scenarios that were presented in this comic. I think it's a great way to make people laugh and smile and give a little break from so to say "The real world"

This is a delightful, light-hearted manga that anyone with pets will absolutely relate to. Hidekichi Matsumoto tells stories about her dog, Inu, and her cat, Neko. They're the best of friends and each have a distinct personality. Inu is cheerful and bouncy and always up for a cuddle, while Neko is more aloof and devious but sometimes also loving (very occasionally).
The art style is cute and the short stories made me laugh out loud several times. There are a couple of pictures of her actual pets sprinkled throughout and they look as adorable as their manga counterparts. The fact that it's drawn as multiple short stories/comics means it's the kind of book you can pick up, read a few pages of and then put down again easily. Makes for a nice break from work.
To be upfront I've received an arc by kodanasha via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. As an animal lover who raises two cats I could not resist the title or the charming art style. The real life photos included are a real plus and add another insight into their lives. The dog Inu is a little ball of energy moving and jumping or looking soulfully into the camera, while the cat, Neko, has the expression of a world weary gangster. Cat and dog antics were highly relatable with dog being a happy go lucky character while the cat is indifferent aloof and antisocial. There were many quotidian scenes that were all too familiar but still very funny, like the way the dog and cat lay with the author in bed, the dog being cuddly and considerate while the cat being a selfish bed hogger. Or when Cat gets a new toy pretends he doesn't care but plays with it anyway. I can sum up With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun with just to words- cuteness overload. There were some very touching scenes towards the end, when the mangaka was reminiscing about her previous dogs and when she describes how she came to adopt the animals. I understand there is also an anime and the making which I would love to seek out. review#WithaDogANDaCatEveryDayisFunvolume1 #NetGalley by kodanasha
'With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun' follows the story of the manga artist Hidekichi Matsumoko and her daily life with her two pets, Mr Inu (her playful dog) and Mr Neko (her rather devilish cat) Each chapter follows a different story, and a lot of which may be relatable to pet owners- i certainly found them to be!
The art-style is soo adorable and her funny stories made me laugh many a time! I also really enjoyed seeing the real life photos she included for further context on certain scenes and i'll definitely be reading volume 2 along with any other books to come!
Rating: 4/5 stars -- Thank to Netagalley and Kodansha Comics for providing the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is a very cute manga for the cat lover in your life. I'm more of a dog person than a cat person so I generally find the "cats doing things they shouldn't" behavior as irritating rather than adorable (like swiping at a dog or knocking a glass off the table) and this book is definitely geared towards people who find that sort of thing cute. The illustrations are very fun and this would be a super fun book to read to a child. It would be a great introduction to manga and reading right to left. The use of real photos was a really sweet touch. And there's truly nothing better than having pets and this book delivers on celebrating them.
⭐ 8 stars out of 10 ⭐ It's cute and light. Certainly reminds me to my own cats at home

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for providing me with an e-arc of this book.
With a Dog and a Cat tells about the author's experience in having pets at home. It's comedy and written in 4-koma kind of style, so it's more like collection of short stories. It's light, easy to read and some parts are very funny. The cat and the dog the author owned have distinct personality and very cute. Not much I can comment on the techincalities like artstyle, etc. All I know is that everything else seems really fitting in this book. I like it.
*I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
This collection was super cute, with short manga comics detailing the behaviors and daily escapades of the author and their cat and dog. The two animals had two very different personalities, which is very evident in each little story. These were great vignettes into the every day life of pet owner's, especially when there are multiple pets in one home.
I do wish some of the stories had been more connected or expanded upon, but I understand that these were meant to be short often single page glimpses. Still, it was fun to read and great for anyone who deals with cats or dogs on a daily basis.
I received an ARC through NetGalley from Kodansha USA, Vertical Comics. This was a very cute manga that depicted real life daily scenarios from an owner of both a cat and a dog. The two pets have very different personalities and the owner loves them to death, but she can also be very frustrated by their antics - each alone and when they are together. Overall, this was a nice, light, slice of life for animal lovers. While I don't think this accurately represents all dog personalities or all cat personalities, it definitely shows how our pets make our lives fun and interesting each day.
Such a sweet and very cute diary of the everyday life living with a dog and a cat. If you have one of those like me you'll really enjoy this and recognize some things that these animals do. They are so funny. The author captures perfectly what is like to live with a dog and a cat (in my case many cats haha).
The drawings are simple but well done and really cute. I also liked some real life photos of the author's pets that appeared through out the book.
“The growth of the internet and information overload. Mass media manipulation tactics. Frequent politician turnover. Yesterday’s justice becomes today’s evil. We are in an era in which our values shift with ferocious speed.”
“There is a single truth that is absolute with fluctuating certainty…”
Just adorable! I think most pet owners will happily be able to relate to the antics of the cat and dog is this lovely comic. Full of cute artwork and some even cute photos. A warm fuzzy read.

AHHHHH THIS BOOK IS SO ADORABLE. The artist and writer really captures the life of having a cat. 🤣 They really do be always sneaking around and scaring the crap outta ya. 👀
I can not wait to continue the series. I borrowed it so hopefully the library has the other volumes.
I bumped into vol 4 and fell in love with the series. Then I decided to start from the very beginning. It’s great to know how Inu and Neko became members of the family as well as some history of previous pets!
Wholesome! That’s the only word I can come up with to describe this series!
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
A cute and hilarious manga about the artist’s cat, Neko, and her dog, Inu. The names alone had me in stitches.
It took a while before I could read it. My Kindle needs to convert things and that just messed it all up, my Kindle doesn’t like manga it seems. In the end I read it on my tablet, not the best for my eyes, but the only option. 🙂 I was already worried I may not be able to read it, and I really wanted to read this book.
This one is about the artist’s pets and her daily life with them. She has a dog and a cat and she tells us in short comics how her life is with these two. From trying to work with a hyper dog and a cat that loves the warmth of her laptop. How her dog is totally enthusiastic (so very enthusiastic) and loves her and shows her that all the time. And how her cat… well he is a typical cat. But he loves her in his own special grumpy way. 😛 I laughed so so much reading her stories about her pets. I am definitely a big fan of her dog, he is just so bouncy and hyper, never letting anything get in the way or make his happiness go away.
I had a lot of fun reading this one, it was just what I needed. I laughed, I giggled, and rolled my eyes a bit at that grumpy cat Neko.
While we read we get photographs of both pets, and I just had a laugh how different the cat is in real life. The dog is pretty much the same, but the cat looks way sweeter in real life (then again, appearances can be deceiving). I definitely love that they were added, it just gave the story something extra.
The art was OK.
All in all, I need more volumes in this series. I need to see what is next in the daily lives with these pets.
With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun was better than I expected. Usually pet series make me cringe, since Japanese way to treat pets is not the greatest and wouldn't be tolerated in my country. The series is autobiographical and tells about Hidekichi's pet dog named Inu and cat named Neko. Of course the names mean a dog and cat. This is a humor manga, a combination of 4-koma (strip manga) and one page stories about the lives and times of the pets and their owner. There's no plot of course, but occurrences and differences about the pets and how Hidekichi enjoys it all. I'm glad this is realistic and that the animals are actually animals. I also liked the photos, they worked nicely along.
This type of series tends to repeat itself, but With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun does it better and makes everything seem more refreshing. The pets have their own personas and there's enough variation not to make this boring. So, one of the better animals series surely. The art looks almost Western and the vivid line art enriches the story and there's lots of motion, which is great too. If you like to read about dogs and cats, then this is surely for you!
