Life was supposed to be easy after I rescued the princess from the onyx tomb. She would save the world, while I contently stood on the sidelines after completing Destiny’s task.
But Destiny wasn’t done with me. Everything I went through was for one sole purpose—to save myself.
Now, as the princess of Crysia, I must travel across the continent again to the great city of Crystoria, to find the truth of our origins. I must undo the poison King Verin has cast into our lands.
The journey will be difficult since the Dramens want war and Verin will do everything in his power to stop me. With my friends and a rage-filled mate by my side, I can face the truths and save the world.

Throwing the towel in here this series just isn’t doing it for me and I’m finding it difficult to connect with the narrative. It feels extremely juvenile despite the characters themselves not being adolescents they just felt so much younger than what they were.
I also wasn’t feeling any chemistry between Rune and Sapphira and was bored and found myself heavily skimming because of this. I’m just not that invested or interested in the story and if I’m not feeling it by now it’s never going to happen.
The writing here was fine but this felt very different to the first book mostly I think because of all the multiple POV’s we had and this didn’t work for me. This really wasn’t a good fit and unfortunately, this is the end of the road for me.
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
”He said I was his mate, and damn it to hell, I felt it, like some current running beneath my skin every time I got close to him. I wanted him.”
There’s nothing I love more than character development in a story, and I was quite pleased with Sapphira’s! She was a lot more stern and sure about herself and situations in this book and I loved it!
Unlike book one, this installment had multiple POVs and I enjoyed reading Nyx’s POV the most. Her confusion about her feelings and her mate were very realistic and relatable and other than Rune.
I felt for Rune in this book. His anger and the feeling of being betrayed were justified and I constantly had the urge to hug him!
The action, the world building and even the steaminess (because smut is important ok?) were turned up a few notches in this book! It was great!
A Truth in Ruby is the second book in the Onyx Trilogy by Jessica Florence, a compelling read that will woo new readers and satiate her returning fans.
In ATIR, we return to Crysia and continue to follow the fate of Sapphira, now as a Princess, her rage-filled mate, and her lovable friends.
Unlike ASIO, in A Truth in Ruby, we got the chance to read the story not only from Sapphira's pov but from Rune and some of her friends. And I LOVED IT!
This is Jessica Florence at her absolute best. A riveting tale with sharp plot twists, battles that will break your heart while having you at the edge of your seat, characters that will latch onto your heart, and a writing style that flows effortlessly while bringing heat and so much heart to the story!
An unputdownable and unique fantasy—a world so captivating, you will never want to leave!
Sapphira and her friends are back and thank goodness this book was already out because after the ending of book 1 I don’t know how well I would of been able to handle that cliffy!
Well there is no rest for the gang. Between everything that was revealed in the ending of book 1, personal relationships ,dealing with the Evil Tyrant Verin and going on the journey to try to get magic restored. Goshhhh so much happens and I am totally here for it ALL. I am also loving the multiple POV’s in this one!! I am a creeper and totally love being in everyone’s minds! And that ending thank goodness book 3 is out of to snag it now!!
Before I get started, just know that this will be a spoiler free review! 😁
🤩🤩🤩🤩.5/5
I had the pleasure of receiving this book in advance and I thoroughly enjoyed it! A Secret In Onyx sat in my TBR pile forever because the description sounded awesome but the reviews scared me away. I am SO sad I didn’t read it sooner! I immediately applied for the ARC team after finishing book one. But, enough about that. We’re here for it’s next installment.
One of the first things I noticed about ATIR was the switch from single first person narration to multiple first person narration. I LOVE THIS! As our story goes on, our heroine gains a motley crew of hero’s to follow her and I was ecstatic to be able to read from most of their POV’s! I love a good narration switch up. It gives the story depth in my opinion and definitely gives it extra points toward the star rating in my reviews.
Let’s talk for a second about world building. ASIO did a fantastic job in setting up this new dystopian world where everything seems to have gone to shit. I didn’t feel confused after reading it and picked everything up quickly in thanks to the writer. Everything was straightforward and that carries over into this one. We are introduced to several new aspects of this world that give the story more depth and expand on the world which is always a great plus. There’s some great imagery in here and not so much that I feel like I’m drowning in detail.
In the spirit of no spoilers, I won’t go into too much depth on character development, but just know it was solid. One of the things I loved about the multiple narrators was getting to see multiple characters arcs. Was some of it kind of typical? Yes. Is that always a bad thing? No. The build of the world is unique enough that some of the more obvious and often used character arcs live in its shadow. The world has gone to shit and it’s just nice to see some HEA every now and then, okay? Sue me. Also. The smut? Here 👏🏻 for 👏🏻 it 👏🏻
My only complaint was that there were times when I would have to go back and reread a section because I typically try to create the scene like a movie in my head, and sometimes the writing got a little jumpy and that scene in my head didn’t flow as smoothly as I would have liked. After a section reread I could fill in the blanks and everything was smooth sailing after.
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this book and THAT ENDING THO?!?! 🤯🤯🤯🤯 highly anticipating book three and I don’t think you’ll have any regrets picking this series up! Jessica did a phenomenal job!
Thank you to Jessica for providing a copy of her book! I received a digital copy of this sequel to A Secret in Onyx in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely adored the first book and the second one did not disappoint! I loved being able to meet new characters and also get to know the old ones even better. There was a lot going on at the end of book one, we were left with quite the twist when the spell blocking the memories of Sapphira was lifted.
The story picks up right where it left off and Sapphira is struggling with her own memories of being fae. While struggling with her own identity, she also has the future of her world, the human world, and magic weighing on her shoulders. This book has so much that I love! Romance, action, mysteries, and so much more!
Three Pros/Cons
Pros:
1. There is so much relationship development in this book! I loved seeing people come together and finally talk about the things that I have been DYING to have talked about. 2. I loved seeing a certain person finally face their fears and get the revenge they definitely deserved. 3. We get to see even more of the Fae world in this one which was really fun and the descriptions were amazing.
Cons:
1. Sometimes I struggled with Nyx as a character. I’m not sure if it was because I was as unsure of her within the group as she was which made being in her head kind of hard. But at the end I really adored her character! 2. There was a bit of what felt like insta-love but I know it wasn’t really that because it’s over the course of so much time (it just feels fast when reading the book). I think it sometimes felt just thrown in but the plot whole in this specific romance is address which I liked. I think I’m just not a fan of instant love so whenever something feels like that I don’t like it much. 3. I’m not sure how I feel about a certain addition to the group. Hopefully those who have read it will know what I’m talking about! I think it just throws off how one of the characters is but it will be interesting to see it unfold in book three!
Overall this was a great story that I devoured just as fast as the first one! I highly recommend picking up this sequel or starting the series yourself!!
Here I thought book one was awesome, as i have said recently i don’t really read fantasy and fae books at all but i am loving this series so far.
This is book 2 and i thought to myself where the hell could this book go and boom a cliffhanger and i can’t wait for more.
This book starts off pretty much from the end of the first book and seeing how Rune and Sapphire handle what happened at the end of the first book was interesting and especially with the twist and Tor.
I love Jessica Florence’s writing and this book was no exception, in this book it was so good to get a little bit of each character, it was mostly Rune and Sapphria but i loved how we got a bit of Tor and Nyx as well.
This storyline was fantastic and had me hanging on to the edge of the seat especially towards the end. Thinking they have to win this battle that was not the surprise and the twist at the end.
If you love stories about Dragons and Fae and owls and woods and shifting then this is a book for you but if you haven’t read a fantasy like this then this is a great series to start
Add To Goodreads OMG I NEED THE NEXT BOOK. I mean I KNEW that Jessica was going to throw my heart to the dragon but GIRL. This book was fantastic. I need her to never stop writing fantasy. Ever. You found your perfect.
We get everyones POV in this novel and trust me, but the end you are so in love with this rag tag group that you will be yelling for the third book right along with me. This journey was a doozy but I was obsessed page after page.
The twists in this book keep you hooked from the very first chapter. Like with book one, you aren't prepared for the secrets that are going to come to light, so don't even try to brace yourself. Let the words ravage you.
The emotions run high and the story goes on a wild ride in this second installment.
Exciting adventure, plots twists and awesome characters. That is just little bit of what you get when you read A Truth in Ruby. It is everything you want in a fantasy romance.
As a fantasy lover I quickly fell in love with this author and the unique story she weaves with the first book, A Secret in Onyx. The second book just gets better. You see great plot and character development. The multiple POVs gives the story something extra. You start to care about all of these characters so much. The romance in the book is just right and doesn’t take away from the story, but enhances it. Also, HOLY PLOT TWIST. I about DIED, a couple of times during the book. I love love getting lost in a different world, it’s what draws me to fantasy.
I just can’t say enough about A Truth in Ruby. If you love dystopian, fae, other worlds, secrets, adventure, action, romance, kick ass female characters, dark broody males and awesome supporting characters then you need to pick up this book right now!
”Love is the greatest power in all the lands. With it, you create miracles that will give hope to those who have lost it.”
This was def a 3.5 ⭐️ for me, while it was still a super enjoyable read, I felt like I was less invested in this book than the first. There was still action and I loved the character journeys, but it didn’t have the same big reveal for me as book 1 did.
I loved getting to learn more about the side characters through their POVs, and was so excited about the little bit of spice being added 😏 additionally finding out more on all of Sapphira’s powers (especially that one at the end 👀) was really cool. AND learning more about how Verin’s poison effected not just the Fae lands but the human lands as well. One of my frustrations with book 1 was feeling a bit lost on how the human apocalypse happened, so getting that background in book 2 was great!
The second installment in the Onyx trilogy continues with Sapphira taking the responsibility of saving the world. With the help of her mate and friends they travel to find away to restore magic and save the world from succumbing to infinite evil.
After reading book one I dived in to book two right away. The authors apocalyptic world she created was a non stop adventure. Full of magical creatures and realms unseen to humans. I was captivated by the characters lovable and charming nature and how determined they were. I could not help but root for them through the pages. I can’t wait to get my hands on the third book A Destiny In Sapphire for the conclusion.
A Truth in Ruby is a exhilarate must read for readers that enjoy magic, romance and mystical beings.
A Truth in Ruby is book number 2 in the Onyx Trilogy, you do have to read the first book before this one. In this book we continue with Sapphira's epic journey. You get to live this adventure through different POVs, so you can see what is happen from different perspectives which I think was an intriguing aspect of this book. I really enjoyed the plot twists and the great action scenes! Jessica did a great job writing this book. So much creativity went into this series and it comes across on every page. I can't wait to read the third book. 4.5 stars
I really appreciate that Sapphira isn’t suddenly her old self. With the experiences of her human life there needed to be growth and change otherwise the sacrifice was worthless.
Cons:
I wanted to enjoy this book as much as I did the first but it was taken in the direction of many points of view which I usually loathe. There is no real reason for it here either. You aren’t gaining important or different insight. It made the reading more tedious to me and had me not wanting to pick it up for a couple days.
I waited so long for this book 😭 it completely destroyed me and healed me simultaneously and very few have done that to me. Laura Thalassa, Wendy Higgins and Kresly Cole are some of the few who destroy me as completely as Jessica Florence has. The world build 💯 The character arcs 💯 Broody males 💯 The smut 💯💯💯 I truly think Jessica could be one of those authors who make it big take a chance on her you won't regret it 🖤 I'm completely taken by Jessica and her characters.
Jessica Florence has just amazed me with this series! I'm not usually one for dystopian books, but I will forever make an exception for Jessica and her Onyx Trilogy! I loved that we get to see more POVs from Rune and the other characters! I think it was a wonderful surprise that we got to see their thoughts and feelings and not just Sapphira's POV. Like ASIO I felt fully enveloped by the world Jessica created and I didn't want to stop reading! I can't wait for book 3!!! Great job, Jessica!
If you want a new series that will pull you in and leave you wanting more, pick up this book after you finish reading A Secret in Onyx. I was pulled in right away and just cannot put them down once I start! This book flowed nicely and the characters were all so compelling that I felt each and every emotion with them! This book is action packed, emotional thrill ride that you don’t want to get off of when you reach that last page!
I just read the first book a couple days ago and then received an ARC of this, which was perfect timing. I really enjoyed this book because we get more in-depth insight on other characters, especially Rune and Tor and their points of views of what’s going on. The only thing that aggravated me the most was the cliff hanger and having to wait until next year for the third book!
Make a note, you need to read ASIO before this one! I really enjoyed how this story continued, we learned more about how the stones/gems play into things and the characters developed a lot more than they did at the end of book one in the series. I really look forward to what comes next!
I can't wait for the third book coming out in March 2021!!! This second book ended with an EPIC cliffhanger!!! I'm so excited to see how the story will end, I recommend this series to all lovers of YA Far books and fans of Sarah J. Maas.
Amazing!!!!! Omg seriously I am in love with this series so far and cannot wait for more!!!! I have fallen in love with the world and characters and cant wait to find out the ending!!!!
I felt the first book was rushed but this book was the opposite. So much detail, I loved the switching of points of view. The romances in here are great but not over done. All in all I cannot wait for the last book to come out!
Well I thought the first book sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions but it had nothing on this!! Epic journey, humour and love and epic battle scene. What more could you want?! Absolutely brilliant.
I really enjoyed this book it was interesting and I love the new side of runes personality that we see in this book. Looking for to reading the next one soon!
