Fame and fortune aren’t good enough. Mandy swore she’d never return to Texas, but her boss said she had to go scout out the next big music talent. Boo. She’d love nothing more than to get out of the backwoods honky tonk bar before someone recognized her, especially when her ex-fiancé saunters in the door.
Too bad he went on stage and totally saw her tip out of her chair.
Tyson wants the simple life and being a superstar isn’t even on his radar, so when Mandy approaches him with an offer anyone would be idiotic not to take, he turns her down. He wants to see her squirm. It’s the least he could do after she left him high and dry.
Revenge is deliciously sweet.
Cowpies, chafed thighs, and a mechanical bull aren’t going to stop Mandy from getting what she came to get. When Tyson’s signs the contract, she’s leaving Texas with no strings attached. The problem? Tyson’s made it clear he wants her heart and this time, he’s playing for keeps.

Wish on a Star by Rachael Eliker is the seventh in the Pop Stars Romantic Comedy series and features Mandy, the secretary supreme and fixer for all of Harper Music. Mr. Drake has sent she and George to Texas to scout a singer fit to become Harper Music's first county star. Turns out he's not all that good and a sleaze to boot, but he lead guitar and back up singer has some possibilities, until Mandy sees his face. Tyson, her ex-fiancé. Oh. My. God. She has to get out of this bar before he sees her. No one knows about him. No one even knows she grew up in Texas. Not the time for revelations. She has to get out.
This is such a fun series and to humanize Mandy has got to make the rest of the series' readers as happy as it makes me. She has always been a terrific character: someone relatively normal in the midst of madness. She seemed to be New York born and bred. Alas, when she returns to Texas she become accident-prone and it was nothing but fun...from stepping in a cow pie in heels to demolishing a chicken coop with a tractor. Tyson is hot and patient. Pretty much the strong, silent type. He adores Mandy and has for years. Will it be enough? This is a marvelous book; it is a true romantic comedy. I laughed. I cheered. So glad to see Mandy in her natural habitat: both of them. I recommend it.
I was invited to read a free ARC of Wish in a Star by the author. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own.
I started reading Wish on a Star almost as soon as it popped up on my phone. I have been waiting for Mandy's story FOREVER. It was totally worth the wait and has earned a permanent spot on my reread shelf!
I literally laughed aloud several times. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but my husband was sleeping next to me and had to get up at four this morning. So while several places had me doubled over, I had to attempt to stifle my giggles for the sake of his sleep. Fortunately, he's used to me laughing at books and slept through the whole thing.
The best part about Rachael Eliker's books and the crazy antics they hold, is that every zany, ridiculous scenario is totally believable and realistically portrayed, even if those situations tend not to happen one right after another in real life. Not all the time anyway. I loved seeing Mandy lose her cool, unaffected persona. The other books show her as strong, capable, and seeming without those pesky emotions that plague the rest of us. But every story held a glimpse of something more. This book satisfied that curiosity in a big way. I also really enjoyed catching up with the couples from previous books. And the ending was perfect.
(4.5 stars) - in which Mandy's past catches up like a hit & run...
[Book 7 in one of my favorite RomCom series can stand alone as a story, but frankly, I love following the way the characters from previous books develop as secondary characters in the subsequent stories & recommend reading them in order if that's an element that appeals to you]
In Book 7, we discover that the always put-together, everything-under-control Mandy is actually a passionate mess underneath. When she left Texas, she tried to bury all her emotions and became the super-efficient, unemotional administrative assistant who nothing fazes.
Pressed by Mr Blake to scout out a country singer in Texas, Mandy stumbles across her past - and her past is carrying a major grudge.
There's an enemies-to-lovers/second chance love angle to the story, but even more than the humor that we've come to know & expect, its strongest point is the emotional heart of the story as Mandy tries to decide if & how to reconcile not just with her past & her ex but also herself.
The way it all works out in the end provides us with a highly satisfying happily-ever-after!
Ahhhh, Mandy may be Harper Music’s go to ‘fixer’, but will she be able to ‘fix’ herself? Mandy is being sent home to Texas, which is the last place she wants to be. After all, she has history there…. like in the form of an Ex ... an Ex who is not too happy with Mandy leaving him 'high and dry', so to speak.
Talk about fun and games… we have it here. You see, Texas Mandy is a far cry from New York Mandy. Now it’s time for Mandy to fix everything …. past and present. And if she can fix that, maybe, just maybe, her future won’t need to be fixed. Of course, Tyson needs to cooperate and remember, he's not too happy with Mandy 😱.
Hope you enjoy this heart touching, romcom. There are laughs inside those pages but there also are serious feelings. Mandy and Tyson have a lot to settle, but then doesn’t everyone with a past?
Each time I read a book in this series, I wonder how it can be topped. But somehow, this author brings a fresh touch to the pages of the latest book in the series. I really looked forward to this one and was not disappointed. It's always good to be able to laugh out loud. Talk about a stress reliever 🙃 I volunteered to read and review an advance copy of this book, and loved it.
I loved this one so much! I think it might've been my favorite. I loved getting to see inside Mandy's head. Her friend Daisy Mae was perfect. The "meet cute" of the h & H was great and made me smile. Tons of moments I highlighted as "lol". I enjoyed the dialogue & thought there were some good dry humor moments & zingers with the couple. I felt in the story there were little details of life added to help with the flow & believability. On a recent Facebook reader group someone complained they're not a fan of cowboy books because there isn't an accurate decription in many books. I thought this was or at least felt it accurately descriptive of life on a ranch. It was nice to get a peek into the H's world. A favorite line of mine was "don't think for a minute that love isn't a choice two people make" The story had some moments to make you go "aww". I appreciated some characters making cameos and adding to the story. At one point in the story when the hero called Mandy out on her behavior she is thinking "dang it, he was good." I agree! The story made Mandy human, lol. After her cameos in other books with her stone cold persona it was fun to read this. I think you could definitely read it as a stand alone but maybe more fully enjoyed if you read other in the series 1st.
This story is just as funny as the others in this series. There seems to be a depth of emotion that is more prevalent in this story, than the others. We know Mandy from all the other books in this series, but we never really knew Mandy until now. This is a story of a woman who let her parents rob her of her happiness. She projects her parents relationship onto her own with Tyson, and leaving him high and dry for things she could control; her job at Harper Music. This Mandy is not the one we know; a take charge, get it done. This woman is unbalanced, prone to accidents and completely undone by Tyson just looking at her. A second chance romance that just might mean that "wishing on a star" just might mean your dreams can come true.
A Love Written In The Stars - This is a clean and heartfelt story about overcoming pain and rekindling a lost love. The chemistry between Tyson and Mandy, even after eight years apart is powerful and intense, but they try to fight it. Their banter is antagonistic, playful and sexually charged, but they still fail to acknowledge their connection. It is a story that will take you through a myriad of emotions, as the characters feels them and fill your heart with joy when they get their happily ever after. I definitely recommend reading this book.
I received a copy of this ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I highly anticipated Mandy’s story and I was not disappointed. This was romcom at its best, and when you throw in a singing cowboy what more could you want? The chemistry between Mandy and Tyson was spot on. They were flawed, real, and totally the type of people I love to root for, and I was glad to see Mandy beyond the business persona. Who would have guessed? The side characters each added to the story, and it was great to revisit couples from previous books in the series. I wholly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
FINALLY we get Mandy's story! Remember her? She's the uptight almost robotic secretary for Mr Drake. No feelings, wouldn't know love if it bit her. Wooheey was she hiding herself! Tyson is the perfect antidote to Mandy's icy demeanor. He takes and takes until he blows things apart just so they can come together again. The story is funny and sweet and has its very own happy ever after. I received an advance reader copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
This was a great ROM COM that is so wonderful you will read it all in one setting! Mandy returned to Texas to find the next great talent and unfortunate for her it’s her ex fiancé! Tyson was left high and dry when she left for the big city and a job. Now he wants to make her squirm. This was a great second chance story and was fun to see them get over all their flaws find a way back together! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
A good clean romance about Mandy and Tyson. She broke their engagement and ran off to NYC. On a job assignment from the record studio she works for, she ends up in her hometown looking for a star only to find her ex-fiancé. She needs to get him signed but he's not interested. Her boss has her stay until the job is complete and he is signed. Will she get him to sign? Will they get back together? I really enjoyed the story and love Rachael Eliker's books.
I truly LOL at Eliker’s stories, and this book was no exception. It’s about time that Mandy got her day and her back story is almost unbelievable. Tyson was the perfect balance for Mandy that added the dimension to her character that the reader could only infer was there from previous stories. I loved it! I received an ARC copy of this book and I am leaving a voluntary review.
Mandy is sent out to Texas to help sign on a country singer for her record company but ends up trying to sign up the back up singer who turns out to be Mandy's ex fiancee from years ago. Now she has to deal with her past and sort things out so she can do her job. This was a great story and really does sum up the series nicely; this is much better read on order but can read on its own.
This was so fun!! The characters were great and I loved Mandy and Tyson. I loved that they were real with imperfections and all. This story made me laugh out loud and was full of sweet, clean romance.
Wish On a Star is a sweet, fun, heartwarming, second chance romance between Mandy and Tyson. These characters grabbed my heart in chapter one and never let go. It is never a smooth path to true love and Mandy certainly stumbles a lot in this book. The book works well as a stand alone, but even better as part of a series. If you enjoy clean romance, you will not want to miss this well written book. I could not put it down!
