Marsha Blackburn, Senator from Tennessee and long time politician, has never been anyone but herself. Her passion for her faith, family, principles, and state are awe-inspiring. This book really breaks down what it means to be a conservative woman. From dealing with constant criticism, threats, and public scrutiny, to the philosophical background of conservatism, quoting Kirk, Burke, Tocqueville, and even Margaret Thatcher. This is an excellent read for any young conservative who may feel lost or isolated. Finding the power to stick up for yourself and your principles in a gracious and kind way is an art that one must master, especially when operating from the defense (although Blackburn makes it a point to say she wishes we were on offense more and I couldn't agree more).

As a Christian woman, moderate conservative and not a fan of the current president, I read this book to understand the mind of a Christian woman, an extreme conservative and a huge fan of the current president.

I was disappointed Blackburn begins her book with a vicious attack on Democrats in general and female Democrat congresswomen in particular. She likened them to Stepford wives, robotic and unthinking in their actions. They advocate government control from cradle to grave, she says. Conservative women on the other hand, are smart, study the facts, and are confident according to Blackburn.

It was evident from the opening salvo that Blackburn is not interested in bridge building nor does she follow the command of Jesus to love our enemies. Her obvious disgust for anything from the Democrats' camp was disconcerting. And this, even though she admonishes others to always be kind and hospitable to people. (65.7%)

The memoir part of Blackburn's book is encouraging. I wish she would have started with that and then, after engaging the reader, share her harsh opinions of Democrats. A savvy editor should have made such a content change. Her defense of conservatism is well presented and understandable. She has great encouraging suggestions for conservative women. She includes smart dialogue talking points on misunderstood conservative issues.

This book will help you understand the conservative mind of a woman who sees impoverished and repressed women on an overseas trip and passionately wishes they had the same opportunities as women in the U.S. and yet at the same time is working on lowering the caps for refugees. (58.3%) It helps you understand the mind that is violently opposed to abortion and the 1,700 murdered each day yet approves of the actions of a man who has allowed nearly 200,000 die of a virus by refusing to act in a timely manner, preventing so many unnecessary deaths. It helps you understand the mind who admits man is fallen and prone to evil, who wants clean air and clean water, who defends property rights so long as they do not hurt others (38.7%) yet says we must let industries police themselves. (74.0%)

This is a good book to understand the mind of a conservative woman. Those who think the right can do no wrong and the left can do no right will love it. Conservative woman looking for practical strategy to stand their ground will be encouraged. Moderates may find more fury and disgust than love and compassion.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

This past summer, my youngest daughter attended a conference for college-aged conservative women. She came home with this book, by Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn, who spoke (virtually) to the conference, and gave it to me (“since I probably wouldn’t really be into it”).

Well, while I don’t know much about Marsha Blackburn (although in my mind I’m thinking she was impressive in the Kavanaugh hearings … I hope I’ve got the right woman here?), I was sold after reading she was conservative. Reading a book about the mind of a liberal woman just might make my head explode, and none of us wants to be around for that.

“The Mind of a Conservative Woman” is part autobiography. We learn about Marsha’s younger years in Laurel, Mississippi, which I enjoyed a lot and could relate to in many ways. “Conservatism was woven into the everyday world that made me,” she writes, and I could agree. From “dinnertime conversations I knew as a child, from the example of parents and the warm values of a loving southern community, I came naturally to what I believe today and to what I hold most dear. I cannot tell you how grateful I am."I would agree with this.

Marsha’s dad “made the living, but Mother made it worthwhile." Marsha discusses many thoughts and values perhaps not being specifically taught, but being modeled and absorbed, and I relate to this as well. Two childhood principles that have stuck with her to the current day are to 1) Give back more than you take, and 2) Leave things in better shape than you found them. I feel the same, and I still remember gently scrubbing the covers of my school textbooks with a bit of Comet and a damp rag the night before turning them in. It was just what you did, or at least what I did.

Marsha then veers into some history of conservatism, telling stories of Alexis de Tocqueville (“The Americans combine the notions of Christianity and of liberty so intimately in their minds, that it is impossible to make them conceive the one without the other”) and Edmund Burke. I liked Burke, who saw “the folly of putting the rights of the state above the rights of the individual. He hated all socialism, all communist ideas … he spoke of the obligation of politicians to serve the people while not caving in to the opinions of the people.” These anecdotes are in a chapter titled, “A Noble Heritage — For Women, Too!” I kind of hate the tagging on of “for women, too!” First, the exclamation point bugs me — and I’m just tired of tagging on “women too!” to everything. I have never felt insecure as a woman and have never assumed history doesn’t include me. I do understand though that many women out there, I guess, feel aggrieved on a daily basis so maybe the editor felt compelled to add on that subtitle?

The final part of the book deals with advice for women, purportedly younger conservative women. This part was probably the least helpful to me. Let’s face it, most advice of this type is pretty much common sense (make lists — be organized — find a mentor — etc). I always have to wonder whether some poor struggling girl would ever pick up a book like this, read the advice, and be struck: “WOW! I think I’m going to start making checklists RIGHT NOW!” I suppose it could happen, but it just seems like preaching to the choir much of the time.

I did enjoy most of the book, just knowing that Marsha was a kindred conservative spirit. As a US Senator, she has faced a lot of criticism — unfairly, but realistically, much more than a liberal senator would in today’s America. She speaks of using time wisely: using spare minutes in a carpool line or waiting for an appointment to read, make a mental plan for another task, etc. I am a similar proponent of not wasting a minute of our precious lives.

I enjoyed this book and would love to have lunch with Marsha. I think she and I would have a lot in common (she even played piano for her church in her teenage years!). Recommended if you’re interested in the topic.

The Mind of a Conservative Woman is a political book by author Senator Marsha Blackburn. Senator Blackburn is the first woman to represent Tennessee in the U.S. Senate. “She is a solid conservative, with small-town values and a deep faith commitment” (Newt Gingrich).

The author’s purpose in writing this book is to inform readers there are conservative women in office. The thesis is the promise of conservatism. The book is organized into twelve short chapters which include A Noble Heritage, Public Tactics for the Conservative Woman, and Habits of a Lifetime.

I learned that it is thought our Judeo-Christian heritage is to blame for the enslavement of women. The fact is our Hebrew and Christian parents laid the foundation for the ascent of women.

I recommend this book to fans of political science because Senator Marsha Blackburn understands the conservative woman.

I tried y’all. I got through 36 minutes. It was her ranting as if she were drinking straight from a champagne bottle while popping Godiva in her mouth as she gets a pedicure, likely from an immigrant she’d vote to kick out of the country. She spent the whole time ranting and using personal vignettes to illustrate an entire political party and people. I’m moving on to someone more intelligent to help me get into the mind of a conservative woman, maybe Peggy Noonan.

Great read! Blackburn is an unapologetic conservative leader, encouraging women to stay the course through criticism, threats and unfair attacks by those on the left. She speaks to the importance of family, faith and values, and the promise of achievement for women who apply their talents and abilities- nothing is impossible. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her upbringing in Mississippi as well as the Taylor Swift incident- Marsha stood her ground. This book gives hope to conservative women everywhere. Read it- you’ll be glad you did.

Senator Blackburn’s book is part memoir, part self-help, part-conservative women’s empowerment screed. It’s crafted generally well and is more positive and uplifting than most political books I’ve read in recent years. I appreciate her laying out the origins of modern political conservative thoughts and offered tips and reading materials for conservative women. Even a non-conservative woman would benefit from learning about American conservatism.

This book by the Senator encourages women who lean to the conservative side of politics not to be ashamed of their stance and embrace it. The book covers several topics along with theme, while using her time before and during politics to bring home the facts, such as her upbringing in Mississippi to help her love of her country, faith and God. One entertaining section was her response to singer Taylor Swift, who went off on Blackburn on a movie documentary that was being filmed covering Swift's life. The writer explains her stance with respect and detail.
This book, like the title says, is more for the female reader, and male readers may be bored with the overall theme. However the female conservative will enjoy the text.

Do you hear what I hear? It’s the sound of one crying in the wilderness. This is the story of a conservative woman thrust into a world of liberalism.

A lady, a wife, mother and a senator, who only wants the best for our country and its people. The best for her family and fellow conservatives and their religious freedom.

Marsha Blackburn wants to leave this world a better place for others. She’s left me wanting to do the same.

Page 223 provides a checklist to help you become a voice for yourself and the true conservative lifestyle. You, too, can become a bold, courageous conservative woman.

Thank you, Ms Blackburn, for the enlightenment and motivation to keep moving forward in whatever way I can find to do this.

SHE IS A HORRIBLE HUMAN BEING. Being a self labeled conservative woman is fine. That is NOT what she is. People who supported Donald Trump are hateful, stupid people. We are now living in a duplicate of 1930's Germamy. Make your choice now. Because a few years down the line people will remember it. The 77% who voted for Trump had a violent death wish. So does she.

This was a well written and well narrated book. I love Marsha Blackburn and her awesome ability to captivate! Her rise to the Senate was remarkable in this man’s world. She has proven she has what it takes to lead. She made quite an impression in me and I hope she can be a mentor to all women who want to get anywhere in the man’s world.

Compelling and Purposeful

I greatly enjoyed reading this book. I often am attacked for my beliefs and love her ability to provide a way to gracefully respond and remain strong in your convictions. It made me feel more confident that I wasn't alone in my convictions.
