Kat Makris is back in PARTY CRIME, and she's about to be late for work--again.
Grandma has decided that it’s time for another family party, a low key affair that won’t rattle the local gossip machine. If Kat has any reservations about the party, they sizzle up when an explosion rocks the compound.
The suspect list is a mile long. Grandma’s got angry Russians stashed in her dungeon, and her worst sister is resurfacing for the first time in years. And that’s just the family. The Makris Family’s enemies list is longer than the average leg.
Before she can blink—or tell her boss she won’t be showing up to the morgue for work—Kat finds herself whisked away to a farm. (Not the big farm in the sky where the good dogs go, but Grandma’s farm in the middle of nowhere, Greece.)
Kat being Kat, she’s not about to stay put. When the Russians turn the tables on Grandma, it’s up to Kat and Marika to ride to the rescue to save the family, armed with nothing more than Kat’s existential angst and Marika’s gnawing hunger.
If you haven’t read any of the Kat Makris books, stop now and read the first one Disorganized Crime.
This is a great entry in the series. It has everything I love about these books - humor, fun characters, sexual tension, and a kooky plot. Definitely a must purchase! I devoured it in a few hours, so now begins my impatient waiting for the next one.
You ride along with Kat as the adventures take one bizarre turn after another. I couldn’t stop laughing and I couldn’t put the book down. I highly recommend reading
Apart from the usual family shenanigans, the arrival of the worst sister, and more fallout from those damned cassette tapes, this book threw me a bit as Kat finally makes a decision between her hunky men. However, this didn’t not play out as I’d hoped and there are definite hurt feelings involved (including mine ☹️). I’m not sure if the dynamics of Kat’s relationships between both men will ever be the same, but I’m guessing the flippant reaction from one will lead to a lot of tension in the next book. I almost wish it hadn’t happened as I did love the sexual tension between Kat, Xander and Melas.
The mystery surrounding the fire and the Russians was merely a side story for me as I was laser focused on the relationship plot.
This latest in the Kat Makris series was a quick read and as usual, highly entertaining. Kat's three-way relationship seems to be narrowing finally, and she meets even more members of her grandmother's crime family.
She finally chooses between Melas and Xander my heart is happy!!!The worst sister arrives in town and you could never expected what she is like. Another laughing excert into the takes of Kat.
This is one of my favorites in the series because... the romance goes places, people! (Places I liked.) Also we finally met She was fun! I'm excited to see what happens in the next book. I hope it comes out soon! Beyond the romance, I want to see what shenanigans Kat gets herself into next. 5 stars!
Party Crime (book #11) was yet another wonderfully written tale by Alex King. I cannot get enough of this series and I was not disappointed by some of the things that took place in this novel.
I knew that the Russians would once again pop-up quite a bit going into this book and, lo and behold, they’re still after that mangy cassette (useless though it may be). However, we also get introduced to the “worst sister” (so dubbed because she’s a wanderer, can’t cook, and didn’t want to raise children – not quite the reputation that Katerina (or me) expected this terrible sister to have). She added a very high but lighthearted presence to the story that was amusing and fun.
Unfortunately, Katerina’s uncle shows up again in this novel as well though and, thanks to the former-pirate-turned-wanna-be-dictator, things go south for the gang in Russia before they can get-outta-dodge and they lose Xander during the mess.
The plot of this novel (as has been typical for this series) has continued to be fun and engaging. There were some plot twists I saw coming and certainly some I didn’t. I continue to love King’s writing style, world-building, and the dialogue between characters, which I think just makes these books. Kat Makris is hands-down one of my favorite Greek heroines.
Katerina continues to be a relatable and funny MC. I can always count on her to make me laugh at least a few times during every novel and I love that this has not let up in the least. At the same time, Katerina Sr. is also in spectacular form during this novel. She’s still up to her plotting, scheming, and secret keeping tricks, but she also
I do continue to get annoyed at times by Marika and her single-minded obsession with food though. She seems just a bit too overblown and excessive; more of a caricature than a character. I don’t think this will change anytime soon, but there are always times throughout these books that I wish her and Katerina were just a little bit less friendly with each other (i.e. not always attached at the hip).
I had bemoaned the fact that in the previous novel Winter Crime (book #10), romance between Katerina and one (or the other) of our two gorgeous men was not to be found at all. In fact, the only romance to be seen was between Katerina’s grandparents – something that was amusing but that I could’ve ultimately done without (especially in the way it was expressed as “bumping uglies,” eww). But the wait is finally, finally over. Katerina has picked her fella (in an unofficial sort of way) and I could not be happier with her choice, . While this was thrilling (especially since certain things occur more than just once), I have also rarely been as disappointed with the outcome of a romance as I have during this book.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t need certain scenes to be explicitly detailed for those “behind closed doors” moments, but Alex King wrote more passionate situations in book #1 than she did in this novel. Things happen without a descriptive kiss (let alone anything else) to be seen. It was one of the most highly anticipated anti-climatic experiences I’ve felt in quite some time. I simply cannot believe that this is what the author put me through. 11 books and this is the “smut” you give me?? No. No, no, no. Things cannot go down like this!! I can’t even express how big of a build up this was for me and how crushing the disappointment was – not in Katerina’s choice but in how King wrote it. Give me at least a few details!
Even though King’s books seem to be coming out a bit slower than previous novels, I am greatly appreciating the additional effort that has gone in to proofreading/editing. This book wasn’t quite perfect, but it was darn close (especially compared to her earlier novels). I love this and this has greatly increased my enjoyment of the story (because I’m not constantly being distracted by odd phrasing or errors). Loving it!
With the cliffhanger ending (especially with Xander missing), I’m itching to get my hands on book #12 and find out what favor Baby Dimitri has up his sleeve for Katerina. I just wish I didn’t have to wait a year (or so) to get my hands on the next novel!
𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒚 𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆, Book #11 in the Kat Makris Greek Mafia series by Alex A. King
This is one of my favorite series, despite the fact that the early books were full of grammar errors, misplaced and misspelled words, etc. I rated the books down during that time, but the fact is that the characters are so relatable, the plots so very possible, and the whole shebang so funny, that I stopped doing that. In fact the only reason this one is rated 4 rather than 5 stars is that it has the dreaded cliffhanger ending. Yikes I have those.
I am happy to report that I only made 3 bookmarks in this novel. Two of them were for use of the wrong word for the context. The last one probably has to do with the fact that I am much older than the author, and, of course, the fact that the character was talking about Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. When the answer is that the other person doesn't know who Tiffany is, the character, Kat, hums a little bit of 𝐼 𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑊𝑒'𝑟𝑒 𝐴𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑁𝑜𝑤. Being a really old fart, of course, to me that son is by Tommy James & the Shondells, not Tiffany (yes, yes, I know it was a big hit for her too). I might add, that it is again on the charts, this time covered by Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day. What goes around comes around -- again!.
In any case, this book made me smile a lot and LOL even more. I hated that cliffhanger, Ms. King -- and it cost you a star.
With this series I have done something I have never done before, I read the whole series, thankfullyI didn’t have to pay for a single book, thank you for an offer from Amazon Unlimited, I can’t tell you why I did this as the books were not that good really, but I just had to keep reading them. If there is another book in the series I’m not sure I’ll read it. Totally unbelievable characters in foreign lands, Somali war lords, family members, not so many genuine Russians, I’m sure you just can’t fly a plane into Russia without any form of contact with the security services, even flying in and out of America, strange. Ms King, thank you for being a first in my book reading life.
When reading this series, one just trundles along reading, absorbing, a very good story. There is mystery, humor, romance, suspense. The stories are wonderful and wonderfully told. But the biggest reason I continue to read this series, this author, is because of powerful punches of word play. A whack up the side of the head, gloriously unexpected turn of phrase.
Grandma's hovel has just exploded, burned. The fire is out and normality, for this family is returning. And Katrina notices ... "My goat was nibbling on a chunk of bread that had blown out of the kitchen and narrowly missed becoming toast." I would have snorted my coffee if I'd been drinking coffee.
Not so much a complaint about the book, but 10 books in and this is how it ends - gutted. Feel robbed. Thoroughly enjoyed reading these, except for the slightly irritating occasional typos, happy to proof read if you write anymore of these. Still can't believe readers are left hanging like this, really disappointed 😞
Who wouldn’t at least attempt to fix fire damaged hair? Cut it so it would heal or something. Why does everyone constantly eat dessert and no one is fat except the sidekick? Yes it’s comedy and artistic license but really. Tired of the teenage angst thing between the two guys.
The first third was excellent, the remainder got worse and worse. Kat ended up sounding corny and slapstick. I almost stopped reading but kept hoping it would get better. It didn't. Hopefully, the next book will be back to normal.
Alex A. King is a gifted author with lots of imagination and smart humor. I'm an avid reader and rarely I find books that have laugh-out-loud situations as funny as this series.
Fun characters. Lots off adventure and I enjoy the humor. Can’t wait to read the next book! Series although different remind me of the Stephanie Plum series of books.
These are fun. We're getting to know the family and the Family history, but everyone tries to keep Kat in the dark. I wish they'd just tell her what's going on and start grooming her to take over. I guess it wouldn't be as funny.
Again, Katarina is funny, sarcastic and good with play on word. Yet this story is one big filler. Funny ride but for no reason. A new character is introduce but what for. Cute book for light reading.
