If you like action, mystery, humor, and plot twists, as well as good old fashion detective work, then this is the book for you!' - Customer review
Invited to a big anniversary party in the suite next door, Patricia Fisher is pleased to celebrate the idea that marriage can work. Successful internet billionaire Howard Berkowitz and his wife Shandy seem very happy, even after thirty years together …
… that is until a shot rings out and Shandy’s sister falls to the deck stone dead.
But who was the bullet meant for? The shot winged Shandy, who was standing right next to the victim. Is she still in danger? Desperate for an answer, Howard begs Patricia to solve the mystery and find the killer. Can she do it before the killer can finish the job? Or was the sister always the target?
Stuck in Iceland while the Aurelia’s dented hull is repaired, Patricia and her friends must dig deep into the Berkowitz family history. However, the moment she believes she is onto something, a second murder muddies the water and this time the victim is a member of Patricia’s immediate circle.
The killer is still at large, but is their grisly task complete? Or are there more victims to come? Though they grieve losing one of their own, Patricia and friends double down to unravel the clues as a deadly game begins to unfold …
Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
This book caught me off guard once or twice with its plot. It's a great read!
The author takes us on a twisted and gripping journey with Mug Shut. It's full of lies and deceit, all time lows and fantastic highs.
Patricia is aboard the Aurelia cruise ship and is in hiding from a vicious mobster queen who calls herself the Godmother. She is the boss of a multi international group of gangs that are spread far and wide around the globe. As such, she has a long reach and a fair few accomplices who would be happy to murder Patricia and her friends, for a fee.
The Godmother has threatened to kill all of Patricia's friends, colleagues, family and ultimately Patricia herself; as punishment for Patrica interfering with some of her criminal operations. So to make things more challenging for the assassins the Godmother sends after Patricia and her friends, Patricia takes herself and everyone threatened on a luxury cruise ship. What do you do when threatened, you go for a luxury cruise, or at least Patricia does. When the Captain is a personal friend of hers, and money is really no object, it's the logical place to go.
This book has murder and mayhem galore, but it's also got a butt load of physiological tension floating around. Patricia is playing the long game, but the Godmother is playing for keeps; so Patricia brings in a mystery man that none of her group are aware of, to observe what is going on around her while she goes about her days.
There is a murder on the Aurelia, and a young woman lies dead, but who was the killer, and how did he or she manage to get a weapon on board? It's yet another mystery for Patricia and her friends to answer.
If you like cozy mysteries, and you like comedy as much as murder and mayhem, then this is the book for you. The author spins a wonderful yarn and reels you in to a point where you are a part of the action. It's an awesome read!
Not a bad read, but in my opinion, not the best of the series. (Having already read the next in the series, The Godmother, I know that the series will soon be back on it's usual exciting track)
A billionaire who came up with a dog walking app is on board the Aurelia to celebrate his anniversary. The lights go out during the celebration and his wife's sister is fatally shot.
Sam finds a kindred spirit in Gemima, a young woman who also has Downs Syndrome. He is devastated when she falls down stairs and breaks her neck.
In a shopping mall, Jermaine, Mrs Fisher's butler, is shot and Mrs Fisher arranges to have everyone believe he is dead.
Mrs Fisher announces the identity of the Godmother.
I suggest that the booksare read in order.once again "Patty" has solved the who dunnit! an Anniversary party turns tragic some dies some one else is..... no spoilers. the get away may put our Patty in more danger in site of all precautions... she does what she does best follow the clues! will Patty say yes to her...no spoilers! this is a twisty, fast paced mystery where plots in plots play a big part. Suggest that you read Patrica Fishser Cruise mysteries first, you will get a better understanding of how her friends and fellow assistants came to meet. dont forget to check out Albert and Rex (Albert Smith Culinary adventures) If you like Dogs you will love this one!!
Below is a repeat of the review from the last book--consistency can be a virtue! Can't it?
I've read several of this series now, and I'm totally hooked on it. At first I wrote it was a "Very amusing little stories of an older, female detective who takes on some of the oddest cases." But now it's becoming a continuing, episodic saga of her struggle with a mysterious antagonist out to kill her and her friends in the nastiest ways imaginable. But still acceptable for a "cozy" mystery.
True the murders are kind of gruesome and some really nice people get the axe. But the writing style is so light, you barely notice.
what can I say. I wish I could give Steve Higgs works more than five stars! In danger herself from a woman known as The Godmother, she doesn’t let this stop her from solving yet another murder, with her usual flair. I would love to see all Steve Higgs work televised. Would make exceptional movies. Going from strength to strength , his stories are exciting and they are very hard to put down till you’ve read the last word, then you’re left sitting on the edge of your seat waiting on the next. Long live Patricia and co.
Another delightful story in which Patricia finally discovers who is her great enemy. Two crimes run in parallel and there is a lot of confusion among all the possible culprits until Patricia finds her way and solves the puzzle with all the flair and cuteness as expected. It´s easy to read, has some really funny passages and some characters are so well described that you can picture them in your mind with all their quirks and funny looks. Well done Steve!!! As member of the author´s ARC team I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Steve Higgs you have a devious mind. This series, in particular this book is extremely clever. I guess this describes me too since I saw where it was heading before it happened, not that it lessened my enjoyment. I was extremely sad that you felt the need to kill of Sam’s new friend. But speaking of Sam, I love that you have included his character and show everyone what someone with a disability is capable of. Don’t keep us waiting too long before we learn how Patricia is going to eliminate the Godmother and her assassin (who I think I already know).
There seems to be more going on in this story. Everyone is present and accounted for. The mystery guest is revealed. There is an extraordinary number of deaths and it is hard to determine if there are two gunmen or one. The Godmother is revealed at the end but it is obvious in Frozen Vengeance who it is. The sheer number of people helping Patricia and the number of ship guests involved in the murders makes this book a little confusing. Patricia's habit of never telling anyone what she knows, thinks, or has deduced, is getting a little old.
Action from almost the start as is usual with Patricia Fisher. These stories are never boring. The death of one of her friends brought a lump to my throat. Nooooooo ............. not that person please! I think this maybe the most complicated plot yet but all is explained at the end. Well .... almost. And the Godmother is .....?? Really? I think I’ll wait until the next book comes out before I take that on board. Highly recommended reading as usual.
I wish I could have the imagination and the correct way with words that Steve Higgins has, I hope his future works are as enjoyable as the last 17 ( in this series) have been I have now read all his Blue Moon books and can't wait to read book 8 in the Patricia Fisher Mysteries keep up the great story lines and Thanks for Maintaining the easy read and not including unnecessary sex and violence Great Read
The latest book in the series Is awesome. The ship has.arrived in Iceland for repairs and instead of being there 2 days it's there for 3 days. Meanwhile a couple celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary Turns into a shooting And the sister in law is killed and family squabbling ensues. Many Anxious moments for Patricia and the crew. You need to read how Yes story unfolds. Lots of twists and terms and confusion for Patricia to solve.
Patricia has to figure out who shot Grace and Shandy at the anniversary party when the lights went out. Along with trying not to get killed by the Godmother. How many killers are on the ship and how did they get the guns on-board without being caught? The Godmother slips up and now Patricia knows who is after her and her friends. She only has to find the evidence to prove who it is and what she has done.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
ANOTHER WINNING BOOK TO PUT ON YOUR "MUST READ" LIST. OUR CHARMING CHARACTERS ARE BACK WITH A FEW SURPRISES...SOME GOOD, SOME BAD. WE ALSO MEET AN NEW AND DEVIOUS CHARACTER WHO WILL ADD TO THESE SURPRISES. THIS IS AN ADDICTIVE, CHARMING AND ENTERTAINING SERIES THAT ENGAGES YOU FROM START TO FINISH. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I JUST LOVE STEVE HIGGS.
I’m getting into the Patricia Fisher mysteries in the middle but that didn’t detract from the fast-paced action or the fun cast of characters. I will definitely go back to fill in some of the back-story but that’s not necessary for this to be a really enjoyable read.
I received an ARC copy of the book in return for an honest review.
5.0 out of 5 stars Most enjoyable! Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2020 Verified Purchase A lovely visit with Patricia and friends aboard the Aurelia! The stop in Iceland is packed with mystery, action, and humor! I could not put this book down once I had started it. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
I am a sucker for the Patricia Fisher books and I read this one in record time. Great for being at home or on a long weekend. Although the author is moving toward a resolution of Patricia’s relationship with the captain of the Aurelia, but not there yet. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one.
If you’ve read any earlier books in this series this one will not disappoint. As always there is lots of intrigue and chance to try to figure out Mr. Higgs is casting as the villain. The only complaint I have about these books is that they are hard to put down. Enjoy!
Very quick review as title explains all. This series honestly does just keep getting better. I've read the next book after this and it was brilliant ( my kindle unlimited is full and i promised myself I'd write a quick review on each book before returning so i crash download the next. Done)
Loved this book. I just wish I read the first series of Patricia but it really doesn't matter. It's great that Mr. Higgs fills in the back stories with a few sentences so the reader can understand what is happening. Can't wait to start the next book. It's 2:19 AM on a Friday night, no work tomorrow and it's a 3 day weekend. Happy 4th 2021! Ta ta lol
Anyone on board the cruise ship in this next book of Patricia Fisher Adventures could be the killer. It's hard to decide which person has the most to lose or the best opportunity?!? Each chapter brings new clues and different persons to suspect. I really enjoy these stories and love reading each one.
This story continues onboard the Aurelia. At a billionaire's anniversary party, the sister of the wife is killed. Of course, Patty and group has to investigate. Then Sam's new girlfriend is found dead at then bottom of some stairs. Patty learns that she is a member of the billionaire's family. At the end of the book Patty figures out who the "godmother" is.
This is a fast moving installment in the series. Could never quite figure out what was going on which is a good thing! My hunch turned out to be correct though I had no clue how it was carried out. And there is a big shocker at the end for me at least! Definitely worth a read and I can't wait to get into the next book!
Well I didn’t figure out who the killers were but I did figure out who the godmother was. So I finally figured one out. It will be interesting to read all about the godmother, what makes her tick and how the trap is set to capture her. S Higgs does it again. Great story
Another great sea adventure taking place in Iceland. Patricia and her team are involved with solving a murder a later two more murders. Who did it? The reader will be surprised at the ending in this adventure. Along with this mystery The Godmother makes her appearance and someone close to Patricia is shot! Join Patricia and her team in this cruise adventure to Iceland.
Another good story in the Patricia Fisher series. This is definitely a series that needs to be read from the beginning. The plot and subplots move quickly, making it hard to put the book down. I can't wait for the next installment.
I was sad, but, then happy with the outcome of this book. I am so glad that Patricia figured out what was really happening all around. Mr. Higgs is a great storyteller. Can't wait to see how they catch the Godmother
I just LOVE this series! Start at the beginning and read in order. Even though it could be stand-alone's it is so much better read in order. Great characters and amazing storylines. This one had me guessing to the end. Highly recommend this series and author!
Fabulous read. You really need to read all the Patricia Fisher books, starting with the ones on the cruise ship to really get involved in the series and the characters. Mugshot is a great read and a great page turner. I couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for The Godmother .
