After an international secret service stole her thesis and all the copies of the document it was based on, Tania thought nothing could surprise her. Her health is failing, she’s lost her job at the library, and there are seven messages on her phone from her mother that she has no intention of listening to.
Then a gorgeous prince claiming to be a dragon shifter shows up on her doorstep and offers not only to whisk her off to Alaska and marry her, but also to wash her dishes.
Don’t happy ever afters like that only happen in the books she loves?
A confusion of crowns
Rian doesn’t know how Tania got an unaltered copy of the Small Kingdoms’ secret Compact, or why she’s been tapped to be a queen when one of his brothers has already found his mate and claimed the crown, but he’s absolutely sure that she’s his perfect partner in every way.
He just has to convince her that magic is real, that Alaska needs a queen with a cane, that she’s stronger than she knows, and that he loves her, while keeping her safe from a mysterious figure who seems determined to steal the Compact and destroy the kingdom.
Set in an alternate world Alaska, where being a princess is more research and reading than it is crowns and courts, THE DRAGON PRINCE’S LIBRARIAN is a steamy, standalone, fast-paced paranormal romance adventure.
Elva Birch is an author of the impossible and irresistible. She is a fire dragon Gemini living in Alaska who belly dances outside at twenty below in the winter and loves to find tiny fairy moss worlds in the summer with her camera.
Elva also writes SHIFTING SANDS RESORT, GREEN VALLEY SHIFTERS, and FAE SHIFTER KNIGHTS as Zoe Chant.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. We disclose this in accordance with 16 CFR §255.
2023 bk 116 Better than the first. Of course I enjoyed the librarian (without the degree) getting her chance at her specialty - reading the Compact. Her mysterious unnamed illness provided an interesting touch to the story as many struggle to find a diagnosis for fatigue related chronic illnesses. This story had a stronger plot line than the first, enlarges on the mystery, and had as equally as satisfying of an ending.
Tania, our heroine, has not had an easy go of it. Her thesis has disappeared (ninjas may've been involved), her scholarship was taken away, and now she's been fired from her job at the library due to health problems. The only bright light in her life is the emails she receives asking about said thesis...until their contents becomes more personal. Figuring out who the sender is leaves her more baffled and befuddled and so she decides she's better off leaving well enough alone.
How an university student turned librarian found an original copy of The Compact is a mystery to Prince Rian and getting to know her through anonymous emails has become a pleasure. So when their correspondence stops suddenly he has to find out why, not only because she could be more informed about The Compact than anyone he knows, but because there's a chance she is his mate.
When these two finally meet it's a little much to take for Tania. To have her answers though, she follows this prince to Alaska. She just has to figure out if he's telling the truth about being a dragon and her his queen.
This is a fantastic addition to the series! I have to say I rather appreciate how the writer didn't solve her problems in one fell swoop in this story but showed how she continues to struggle with her health problems while living her life and falling in love with a man who happens to be a celebrity. And Rian is wonderful about giving Tania the time she needs to learn to trust him with her heart. When they figure out another piece to the puzzle its a joy to wan to celebrate with them but I doubt getting the answers is going to be as easy as think it's going to be...poor Fask! LOL I can't wait to read the next installment!
Though this is the second story in the series, and it is stand-alone, it would be better to read the first book before. I received an advance copy from the author in promise of an honest review.
I loved reading Rian and Tania’s love story, it gave me all the feels. It has a bit of light danger mixed in with all the swoony fierce love. Rian is a dragon shifter and one of the princes of Alaska. The ruling king has been asleep/in a coma for years and the Compact dictates that the next king will be the one who finds his mate. There is a public version of the Compact and a private version. Tania was in school working on a thesis based on the private version of the compact that her local library inexplicably had a copy of on microfiche. When her thesis and all her source materials mysteriously disappear, her life takes a sharp downward turn. One of her highlights is her email relationship with Rian who is drawn to Tania because she’s his mate. On their way to their HEA, Rian and Tania have to navigate her medical issues, her reluctance to commit to whatever, and to fall in love all while trying to deal with political plots and dodge villains intent on stealing something or harming someone. The book is fairly low angst and has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, a bit of steam, dangerous action, evil villains, mystery, magic, paranormal creatures, strong families, political landmines, and painful pasts. The book was well written and included three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging story line. I will definitely keep reading the series.
I am totally thrilled with the new world developed for this series and love that this heroine is a librarian! This is a fun book 2 with book 3 looking to be even better from the preview snippet at the end. Rian is a true book worm whose email address is northernbookwyrm! So he also has a good sense of humor. Tania is a librarian who has been struggling with a disabling medical condition, but had done her whole thesis on a copy of the Contract that should not have been out for general perusal! Needless to say, it disappeared and then so did her scholarship and everything else she relied on. Then, Rian comes to see how she is doing and things get really confusing! I won't say more than that, as I don't want to give away all the wonderful surprises in here. Read book one first and then this one. Then, you will have to wait for the next one like the rest of us!
This is a totally different world than most of the other shifter romances inhabit. The pace is engrossing, the tone is uncertain yet hopeful and the storyline is character oriented with some action and some steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and endearing. I can't wait to see what happens next! Enjoy!
This book was well written grammatically and theme wise which is a huge bonus when books are fairly cheap but if you didn’t read the first book or plan on reading the next you’re left with no resolution in a world of people that just stops. The beginning wasn’t hard to follow but at the end there’s no answer for the starting problems and more questions with out even a hint that they’ve solved anything. Series books should have some sort of answers beside “well the main couple is in love and planning to marry.” The couple that apparent get together in the first book aren’t even married by the end of this one and she’s hinted at a third couple. The title literally has dragon in it and we see the main character’s dragon once fully and once in a half-assed battle where he doesn’t actually battle as a dragon and it’s over in less than 5 pages. We are told about other kinds of shifters but there is literally no one else but the main make character who shows anything. Grammar can’t save this story’s main flaw of too much tell and actually no show at all.
Rian is the studious second youngest dragon prince. He loves reading everything from tax codes to time shifting romances. Of course his true mate is a librarian!
I like that they get to know each other before their spell kicks in. I like that Tania takes some time to get used to the idea of a prince. But most of all, I like that Tania has insights that are valuable to Alaska and the royal family.
Tania could easily have been a lady in distress, but she isn't ever. She is ill, and differently abled (we don't know if it's treatable or curable yet), but that just might be an advantage.
There is a level of predictability here, but I still love it.
I'm rounding this one up to 4 stars for a couple reasons. First Tania is disabled and she doesn't get magically fixed by the end of the book and second Rian and Tania fall in love when they are emailing each other about books. All in all it's a pretty cute story but I'm going to stick with my original instinct and drop the series here.
I will say that the author including an updated plot summary at the start of each new installment in this series was very welcome. After deciding I didn't really want to keep reading the series right now I downloaded book 6 read all the spoilers and searched around to find the answer to the 1 question I wanted the answer to. I might come back to this series eventually and finish it out.
I love these characters! These two make such a sweet couple. He is patient and kind as he tries to slowly develop their relationship and convince her that they belong together, she is so very strong even with a body that is weak. She is also very understanding and I’m not sure I would have been if I was in her shoes. I love that their was always this edge of danger and excitement to the story and that they finally reached their HEA. I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens with the princess, I can’t imagine it’s going to be as easy as they think.
Loved this second book in the series. You will get more out of the book having read book one first as there are things in this book that are explained in book 1. In saying that this book can be read as a stand alone. It is action packed and romantic as well. This is a new author for me but I have read many books from her alternative author name and have loved them all. I was swept up in the story and could not put it down until I finished it. Can not wait for the next in the series. This series I can see me re reading many times. I was gifted this book as an ARC for an honest review.
Spoilers? It is a well written book but unless you read first book first you have no idea what’s going on half the time. I am fairly intelligent and can extrapolate but it’s hard. Love story is cute, disabled heroine even better. However, her disability is so central, that knowing it’s all about magic, I was waiting for her to turn a dragon or other magical creature any moment mow. Didn’t. I have inkling about the next book but won’t be waiting with a baiting hart.
I did not expect book 2 would be as convoluted as book 1. Quite honestly this is not a romance book, it is move of a mystery. Also book 1 and book 2 end with cliffhangers which apparently is the theme for this series. Maybe this author is not sure which genre to focus, magic, alternate governments, mystery, etc. She is definitely focused on too many pages to drag out the number of pages going nowhere slowly.
Am not in favor of dragging out this series. Am on to finding a romance series with actual closure for each book.
The Dragon Prince’s Librarian (Royal Dragons of Alaska Book 2) by Elva Birch. Dragon shifter and Alaskan Prince Rian had been emailing with Tania who had used “The Compact” for her thesis. “The Compact” is the rules that govern several small countries, like Alaska, and keep them safe. When Tania stopped answering Rian he went to find her. When they meet Rian immediately knows she is his mate. Back at the castle Tania seems to being targeted by unknown people.
I liked that our heroine wasn't perfect of face and form and is relatable. Tania gave Rian a run for his money and made him work for every bit of it until she finally gave in and said yes!! Author, please find a portal to shove Tania's mom through! She's a mercenary shrew and needs handeled!!! Loads of warm and fuzzies at the ending. How sweet is Rian- VERY!!! Looking forward to the next book with Fask.
But why do I have to wait so long to know which brother it is...WHY. Anyway this is going to be interesting, and I am happy for Rian and Tania finally getting to where they need to be and so ecstatic about Carina and Toren wedding. But the reveal of who the mystery brother is too overwhelming, and now I have to wait a whole year before I get the answer Elva you are killing me..but I guess the anticipation of it all will be worth it...can't wait.
I really enjoyed reading this. Tania and Rian's love story wasn't normal but I loved their relationship. The fact that Tania was handicapped and Rian didn't treat her that way made a huge difference. I also loved he listened to her needs and didn't try to smother her. This love story is one that brings me hope! Since I haven't read the first in this series I am now gonna read that and I also can wait for the conclusion!
Love this and the last book but if I would have known the the next book didn't come out till October 2021 I WOULD NOT HAVE READ THEM. That is two long to wait to finish a series by that time I will have read so many other book I miss the back story of the other books. I will Be checking before I read more of this writer. It's sad because I really enjoyed both of the other books in the series
This story tells of a young woman that was doing research into the Dragon kings of Alaska, all traces of there charters. Only to have one of them get in touch with her and send emails back and forth with each other, then he comes to meet her in person and finds out she is his mate. I would like to say thank you for all your hard work and may fortune smile 😃on you always 😁from a bookworm
Sweet, subtle, believable character and relationship development
The interactions between Rian and Tania are delightful--from their correspondence to Rian's appearance at her door to their coffee and dinner dates, to the trip to his home, to her meeting his family, to the two mysteries, to their public, family, and personal interactions.
I love reading this series and hope books 3 through 7 are already available. .
This book takes a person in real circumstances of joblessness , poverty and disability and gives her her Happy Ever After without fundamentally changing her. There are no words to express how important it was that Tania was not magically cured of her disability before she was worthy of her prince. Great book. Looking forward to the next one.
I truly love Dragon book that presets new ideals and histories. This book definitely captured both and I w thoroughly awarded. I also just love true happy but realistic endings. Especially when a woman has had as many obstacles as our heroine. I am looking forward to continuing this series. Thank you Elba Birch.
I enjoyed the suspense that slowly built from the beginning. I now have to read the following novels to find out just what happens to everyone, and what is meant by the "Compact". Who are the thieves, where do they come from, and how do they get to Alaska undetected by magic?
I have Elhers Danlos Syndrome, and am definitely a Spoonie. It was never said exactly what disease Tania suffers from, but it sounded just like EDS. I'm 42 and haven't read a book before with someone who sounds like they could be me, and what Tania has sounded exactly like me. To the point I was crying after. Thank you so much for validating me
I really enjoyed reading this book to the point I am going to read the series. Alaska as a kingdom was an unexpected twist. The characters are beautiful and believable. It is a really good read! No spoilers alerts from me but if you like believable fantasy stories this is for you. It has action and romance elements.
OK, I really liked this instalment in the Royal Dragons of Alaska series - partly because the chronic fatigue rep rang so true, and partly because Tania was so damn competent despite her illness. Also, Rian was just what I like in golden retriever characters - and I'm fascinated to see the worldbuilding unfold as well.
Very much looking forward to the next one in the series now.
I absolutely loved this romantic story! The dragon prince (Rian) is a sweetheart, and head-over-heels for his mate-to-be (Tania). I can't wait to learn more about the royal family and other characters. Fabulous magical adventure!
I really enjoyed this one, not least because trying to work out the secrets of the Compact was like a cryptic crossword puzzle. But having to wait until next year for the next book!!!!
Loved the book. I hope the next book has her disability explained more and the story of why he lost the infamous bet, LoL. Can’t wait for book 3, especially after that sneak peek!
I waited impatiently for this book and am now waiting just as impatiently for the next one! I can’t thank you enough for giving me another series that I have become utterly addicted too.
I greatly enjoyed this book. It is a reminder that even someone with disabilities have hopes, dreams, and goals. Tania may not ever be strong physically, but she sure is mentally.
