Talaenian Fae #1

Forbidden Heart

Rate this book
A blood-filled night he can’t remember changed Shaye’s life from that of a roguish young Fae lord with a love for human delights to that of a man magically bound to answer the depraved whims of a scorned Seelie princess. Only Shaye’s devotion to his family and the downtrodden Talaenian people has kept him going.
Until her.

Single mother Moira has learned that love is an illusion, and ruthless practicality and determination is what it will take to ensure a good life for her young son. She should know better than to be swept into a romance with a mysterious man with rainbow-colored eyes that make her melt. He insists she’s his soul mate.
And then there’s the magic …

Shaye is determined to prove to Moira that her place is by his side, and he’s eager to be a father to her little boy. Aside from the deep love he feels for his brave, beautiful human, he knows his anam cara holds the key to breaking his curse and ending two centuries of sexual servitude.
Unfortunately, so does his evil mistress—and she will kill to keep her prize.

Born and raised a Jersey girl with easy access to NYC, I was never short on ideas for stories. I started writing when I was 11, and my passion for creating worlds exploded from that point on. Romance writing came later, since kissing gave you cooties at 11, but when it did, I embraced it. Since then, all of my heroes and heroines find their happily ever after, even if it takes a good fight, or ten, to get there.

I currently live in Central Florida with my husband, our four children, and two parakeets. I work part-time as a PCU nurse when I’m not writing or traveling between sports and other activities.

Ugh

This book was long but it was filled with too much description of things. I dont need an entire page talking about the colors of a tree. Also the chicks name Moira was an awful name and made me mad the entire time I read it. I thought Shaye was going to be a bad ass but he turned into a wimpy nerd once he had MOYRUH in his grasp. What a let down. Then it was all sex all the time and too much meaningless conversation from a 4 year old. Words used that most 4 year olds don't even know. I finished it because thats the kind of person I am but I will tell you I struggled at the end and skipped over a lot.

A heartwrenching, beautiful tale of soul mates

When I first read the blurb I was intrigued. There are very few books, in which the main characters have previous children, especially in fae romance. In most books I've read that did, the children were often pawned off on a relative for a good portion on the book. That, refreshingly, doesn't happen in this book. Moira is a steady and constant pretense in her son's life, even with the traumatic issues concerning the child's father.
Shaye is just a dream. He has definite Rhys vibes, and yet a personality all his own. He's literally perfect, which did bother me just a tad.
State's sister, Rihanna, is such a sweetheart. She is just wonderfully kind-hearted and does her best to help Shaye and Moira be happy.
I enjoyed the pacing of the book. Some things with Moira and Shaye seemed sudden, but they also recognized each other as soul mates. I loved that the Far kept their own nature of speech. They had a very formal manner of speaking, which I found realistic and they never deviated from it or picked up slang.
All in all? It was a heartwarming story of finding love even when you least expect it, overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles, and discovering a little magic along the way.

I really enjoyed reading Forbidden Heart by Kira Nyte. The story is very well written with great character work and world building. The storyline grabbed me from the very start and kept me pulled in until the very end. I love the book cover as well. This was a great start for the series and im looking forward to reading the next book. I would recommend reading.

Emotional, heart-warming and action-packed! This book captured my attention and heart from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. I fell in love with the characters and felt every moment along with them as their relationship developed and blossomed. Highly recommend!

Loved it!!

Oh this was an excellent story! It took me longer than normal to read this book, not because it was boring, but because I didn’t want to miss anything. So I went back to reread so many passages. *Sighs* This love story is why I read these romance books.

I read some of the reviews before I started this book and it seemed like many criticized the author for spending too much time in descriptions. Personally, I thought it was done the right amount. If you want to know what too much description looks like, go read a Georgette Heyer Regency Romance book. She’ll spend 5 pages on a description of a chandelier that graced a ballroom. No, Ms. Nyte knows what she’s doing. Not only did her description of places and events thoroughly draw me in, it was nice to have a third type of fae, Talaenian, that I had never heard of before. I felt I was right there, in the Talaenian realm and didn’t want to leave.

One of my favorite passages:
Her eyelids fell shut the moment his lips touched hers. A tease. A brush. Nothing more than a sample, a taste, a torture. A tremor rippled along his fingers and spread through her. A sharp sigh met her mouth as he gently turned her around and molded his hand to her cheek. And kissed her again. Slowly at first, testing her, asking her permission in the touch of his lips and the ragged breaths that followed. A brush. A linger. His arm snaking around her waist, pulling her closer. Her fingers finding purchase in the muscles of his shoulders as she opened her mouth to him, to his kiss, to the unhurried sweep of his tongue gliding across her own.

I didn’t even know I was holding my breath while reading this until I was done reading this. You’d think I was the one that this happened to. (I wish!)

Of course, character building was done as thoroughly as the world building. Shay’s back story is heartbreaking. Our heroine, Moira, was a strong female lead, and only wandered into “stoopid” territory once or twice. But thankfully it wasn’t long-lived, so I was able to enjoy the book. There is delicious jealous mean girl action here. Like SERIOUS mean girl, and SERIOUS jealousy. There are several strong secondary characters here, and I hope each of them get their own story.

I do highly recommend this book.

This is one of those books where I just absolutely loved the world the author was developing for the reader as well as the story she tried to weave with Moira and Shaye. If I was to rate this just on that alone, I would give this story 5 stars hands down.
But there is quite a bit wrong with the execution of this story that I just couldn't get past.
First I have to point out that there was a large plot hole regarding Moira and her real-world life that I just couldn't look past. Time moves slower in the fairy world, yet we never get to find out what happens or how Moira has fixed any problems or issues she would run into while gone. I mean before Shaye she was a hard worker with 2 jobs and going to school full-time. She also has a son who has a father, even if he is an a-hole, he's still the father.
Second, honestly, this book was waaaayyyy too long for me. There were many times when I would skim through all the overly descripted items or rooms. I'm all for a long book. But when I feel like all the description delays any kind of progress for the characters or the story then I just get rather annoyed.
Third, I really just can't behind Shaye taking a spot within the Seelie court especially after everything he went through for 2 centuries at the hands of Deanna. I can't help but wonder was she just that good at hiding her evilness from her father and that within those 2 centuries he never knew what she was putting him through??? And if he did know, he never stepped in and basically turned a blind eye to his own daughter raping Shaye.

Will I continue with this series? Probably because I really want to see Rhi happy as well after all she has been through. I only hope that I don't have to skip around or skim so much throughout that story like I did with this one.

Intriguing premise - mild spoilers

This was the first book I’ve read of this author, and, for the most part, I really enjoyed it. I’d seen a Facebook ad that advertised the scene with the pepper spray and that piqued my interest!

And just a random thought: Moira is written as mid-20s, but I don’t know of anyone that young who consistently uses the phrase “young man.” Definitely nothing to get ruffled feathers over, but it struck me as odd.

It was difficult reading scenes with Daeanna and what she did to poor Shaye. Thankfully, her actions were glossed over, but reading between the lines hurt. 😞

Beyond the struggle of reading those scenes, the only thing I didn’t like about the book was when Moira slapped Shaye in the face. I’m not labeling it as abuse, but women aren’t the only ones who can be physically abused. I honestly don’t see any need to strike someone unless it’s for self-defense. It isn’t right for a person to slap another person in a fit of anger, and in Shaye’s case, Moira slapped him without knowing the entire story. If Shaye were to slap Moira in the face, there would probably be tons and tons of bad reviews because of it. However, it’s just as unacceptable for Moira to have slapped Shaye just because she was smaller than him.

Anyway, getting off of my soapbox now. I enjoyed this book and will most likely read book 2. ☺️

DNF - quit at 20% (page 97 of 516)
The plot had potential, but dang it moved way to slowly -it just couldn’t hold my attention enough to want to continue. By page 97, I think only 3 or 4 days passed, & Moira is back & forth in her thinking. Her friends are more like frenimies, too. I didn’t really feel strong enough for the main characters to want to read more about them. The situation Shaye is in with his curse -or whatever it is, just was a turn off since it involved his being forced to have sex with the evil princess (she’s basically raping him with her magic). I wanted him to be able to resist the evil princess somehow, since he’d found Moira, but it ended up feeling like a betrayal towards Moira in my mind. It wasn’t logical & not the actual case, I realize this, but it felt wrong on so many levels & I just couldn’t get past it. So between slow flow, lack of character development, & the awful curse, I just couldn’t stomach more of the story.

At my age (approaching 60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

"Okay, the beginning was promising. From the very first chapter there was a connection and did I mention dual POV? Yes! That's the best and when the guy is already 'in love' thanks to the 'fated connection' it's simply amazing. Tough I wasn't sure if I was gonna like the 'other girl', the blurb hint an evil mistress and
I hope there wouldn't be intimate scenes because I wasn't sure I could deal with those scenes between them even if she forced him. And just what I thought it happened and that's a huge no to me. I was hoping for magic that stopped the curse for a short period of time so Shaye could break it but no, that wasn't how things happened. Maybe if the moment were just implied, it would have pissed me off but I would have continue BUT the evil princess telling that part? NO! I'm so sorry to the author because I couldn't finish her story. It's always sad and I feel bad but I wouldn't have enjoyed the story. It's just that I couldn't deal with the main character being with someone else. And it's not that I mind explicit scenes, as a fact, I love the details! The more the merrier, right? BUT between the main couple everything else apart is like cheating. I'm sorry, DNF."

An attraction so strong that almost nothing else matters. Shaye has been bound by a curse to a Seelie princess for murders that he is sure that he has not committed. Moria has been hurt so badly by her ex that she trusts no man but there is something about Shaye that there is no way that she can forget him. Love is the only way to stop the curse but the princess will not give Shaye up no matter what she does to try and break him. Will love conquer all and break the curse, or will the curse break Shaye? What about Moria, she must protect herself and her son from heartache and betrayal by anyone who threatens them. Love is strong, especially when it is with your soul mate, but so are the abuse, threats and danger that are all around. This is a must read book and I'm expecting that book two will be just as exciting.

This is my first book from Kira Nyte. I picked up at a book con in FL. This was a good read even though there were parts that had me wondering if there was a HEA or cliffhanger. Just felt like the book would never end. The characters are unusual and have depth. The FMC is a single mom who falls for a Fae prince. I loved the interaction of the mother and Fae with Chase the son. It was heartwarming to read about unconditional love.
Of course there is curse that puts a different POV on forced intercourse. While the curse gets broken by true love, I felt let down by the scene that describes it. With some much detail in other parts of the book, this part had me wondering if I had skipped some pages.
Overall I enjoyed the story line and am looking forward to the next book.

I really liked most of the story and the main characters. There were two things that bothered me:

First. Shaye's friends whisking her off to Shaye's home - all of a sudden and all of her life abandoned just like that (fingers snapping in the background). That abrupt change and then waiting for Moira to fall in love was kind of strange. I just think there would have been more there than everybody saying "don't worry, things will be fine."

Second, the non-scene at the climax? Suddenly we are months later, slowly being filled in on what happened...it was like flipping a switch, and there was this big gap in writing that could have been an awesome confrontation.

So, I will post three stars for an entertaining story.

This was interesting. As with any Fae romance this book has fated mates which usually entails insta love, the author tries to circumvent this by having Moire “fight” her feelings for Shaye but it doesn’t quite work. Especially since she introduces her son to him on the first date and has Shaye spending time with him. I did like the story of the villain and how Shaye was an unwilling sex slave. These types of stories don’t usually have the all powerful Fae males being emasculated in this way and it was an refreshing change that interested me so much, I wish Deanna was more fleshed out. We only ever get a surface level motive for her intentions. I liked this enough to continue the series.

I believe a story is only as powerful as its characters and Shaye and Moria leaped from the page. I love stories where the hero and heroine are immediately drawn to each other, but have to overcome their own fears in addition to external obstacles. If you enjoy romances that are magical, has secrets, surprises, fear, anger, strength, betrayal, treachery, loyalty, struggles, romance, passion and love I highly recommend this book. I'm looking forward to #2!

This is Forbidden Heart: A Talaenian Fae Novel by Kira Nyte that I loved. It's a well written story with amazing characters with chemistry that pulled me in from the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. Shaye and Moria are amazing and there's plenty of action, suspense, drama, intrigue, magic, secrets, surprises, fear, anger, strength, betrayal, treachery, loyalty, struggles, hot alpha male, passion, love and a great romance I couldn't put down. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Pleasantly Suprised

This book was a pleasant suprise and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had just enough twists and turns to keep me turning the pages. Just when I thought I would predict what happens next I was proved wrong. I like the ending had closure for Shaye and Moira in terms of their relationship. Ive been in a bit if a slump that has a HEA at the end. Im looking forward to the next book to see what happens with Ri. Would recommend.

This book didn't do it for me. The story was okay enough. The ending was fitting. But..it was boring and highly over discriptive. I was skipping 2 and 3 pages at a time, without missing anything, just to find dialogue. The overuse of words irritated me as well. This Eve, next eve, yester eve...t'is this, twas that..
I know the next book comes out soon but I feel it wrapped up with that ending and won't be reading the next.

Too long...too much description... could have ended in 250 pages. The plot line is simple. Appreciate the clever turn at the climax. But the plot just dragged in the middle which took away from the excitement. Rarely do you see the MLs not engaging in some sort of recless heroism towards the end so this book was a bit refreshing in that, where the supporting characters led to the conclusion of the book.

Sweet, riveting and truth shine

I loved the portrayal of Moira, the single mother, who strives to understand love at its core. And to see a male character be the one who makes the greatest journey in discovery was riveting.
The twists you'll encounter make it so much better than expected. Sadly, I wished the last chapter didn't feel rushed, but hope the unanswered is answered in the next book.

Oh My Gosh!!!!
I read this book in a few hours and then read the second in just as many hours as I could not put it down.
The emotions within this story were unbelievable and had me teetering on the edge of my seat from the first paragraph.
Kira put the me inside the book, making me feel every thing the characters felt and I really didn't want to leave.
Thank you Kira you have a great talent and you are now on my top list of favorite authors.

Catching up on physical reviews of the year, read on 03/03/22.
Actually a 4 and a half star rating but I can't work out how to do half ratings.
Shade is plagued with nightmares of killing humans whole enslaved by the king's daughter. Meets Moira, a single mother. Relationship blossoms, fated mates, he didn't kill the humans, but the king's daughter did so she could have him to herself. Shade is exonerated. Moira is pregnant. 1st of a series? Unsure if continuing.

So good!

This book popped up as an add on Facebook. It intrigued me, so I gave it a chance. It was soooooo worth it!!! I absolutely adored the book. The darkness of Shaye's experience at Daeanna's hands was balanced by the love and light in the rest of the story. I highly recommend it and can't wait for the sequel!

2.7 Stars. I wanted to love this book but the style of writing and the langue choice wasn’t for me. I also didn’t care for the main character’s struggle. His situation is trigger worthy and unnecessary for the story. I don’t care for that kind of stuff in a book much less when it doesn’t further the story or have any real point. I skimmed to the end. The book does have a HEA with no cliffhanger.

OH lord, how I loved this book!!! My heart was bleeding for poor Shaye since the beginning. I love the new world created in the book and how well describe everything was. I didn't like Rea to much, for a best friend she is way too pushy. Loved to hate Deanna, she is awful. I really want to read more books in this world!!!

Good story but a bit too long. I skipped some of the chapters as I found them boring which isn't a good sign. Overall the story was lacking something. Debating with to score 3 or 4 stars but opted for 4 as my own rules I re-read books that have 4 or more stars. She is a human and he is a half breed Fae and human. He is cursed and believes the human female to be his sole mate and saviour.

Story and concept was so good. 👌🏼
Characters were good. 👍🏼

But this story took forever to develop thanks to the many details of what they ate and drank and wore. 😩

For the love of g-d, I don’t want a breakdown of every meal😝😂😂

I was tired of reading only 11% of the way into this story. While some love the little details and such, it made the book laborious for me to dive into.

A Whirlwind

So many feelings, actions and drama. A cursed fae male and a divorced single mother with a four year old little boy. The touch of family, belonging, doing what’s right and seeking justice, even heartache are all felt in this story. I became entranced with these characters. The touch of humor does offset the seriousness of the situations perfectly.

Lovely story

Well made characters, good world building, action, mystery, evil, magic and romance. Was truly a good read yet did have some spelling errors which did not detract from the story. Hope to read more of Shaye and Moira.
