17-year-old superhero Jupiter Jet has kept Olympic Heights safe for the last year. Her flying skills are unmatched, and the city loves her. But she wants to do more.
Jupiter Jet yearns to soar across the solar system! Liberating the human race from the clutches of The Praetors, the aliens that imprisoned them. Not even her little brother’s discovery of a long-forgotten radio can change her mind.
When the mysterious Black Flyer arrives in orbit and threatens her world, Jupiter Jet finds out that her “hero skills” may not be up to the task. Being a hero requires more than just a jetpack. Does Jupiter Jet have the courage to save her entire planet? We'll soon find out in the second volume of the Ringo Award-nominated series by writers Jason Inman and Ashley Victoria Robinson and artist Ben Matsuya.
Jason Inman survived a combat zone to write this bio. The proud son of rural Kansas farmers, Jason worked in the automotive industry and was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal. All the while consuming as many science fiction novels and comic books as he could to feed his imagination. Jason is the author of Super Soldiers, a nonfiction novel about the secret connection between superheroes and the military which actor Dan Aykroyd called “vivid and entertaining.” Also, he was nominated for a Ringo Award three times for co-writing the graphic novels Jupiter Jet, Science: The Elements of Dark Energy and Jupiter Jet & The Forgotten Radio. Each book combined science fiction with all-ages adventure. After uploading hundreds of YouTube videos while wearing T-shirts, Jason has gone on to host for DC Comics, The CW, Warner Bros, Collider and Screen Junkies. He continues hosting a weekly podcast called Geek History Lesson which educates listeners about the fictional history of pop culture characters. You may have spotted Jason’s hand in the original opening of Good Mythical Morning, a show he helped to develop while producing and writing the first 400 daily episodes. One of Jason’s proudest accomplishments was running the Jawiin Charity Drive for Service Members for six years, which raised $7000 dollars and donated over 150,000 comics and items to soldiers overseas. Recently, he was the showrunner’s assistant on The Code on CBS, and he continues to work at their studios, assisting in the development of new hour-long dramas that will hopefully make it to the small screen one day. Stay tuned…
The latest book in the series of Jupiter Jet is here and is as fun, if not more, than the previous entries. In a solar system that is home to the last remnants of earth's humanity after the mother world died, the struggle still continues. And heroes may arise from anywhere... while death can find those closest.
And the battle continues!!!
The words of Jason Inman & Ashley Victoria Robinson coupled with the pencils & inks of Ben Matsuya create a fun and wonderful journey through the depths of space in what can only be classified as "Spacepunk".
This series is so charming and fast paced! Jackie and Chuck are such good role models for middle grade readers, who depend on their intelligence and compassion.
Now that we, the reader, know the truth of this world, the story only keeps getting more interesting and I'm excited to see what other adventure Jupiter Jet and Saturn Scout will have!
Superb continuing story of Jupiter Jet. I could not put this down and read it in one sitting, which is unusual for me. Buy this up and get all the previous volumes as well! Keep up the great work as I look forward to more from these authors.
The Fantastic Continuation of Jupiter Jet's High Flying Adventure...
*Light-but-not-really-spoiler-review*
If this book is anything to go by, it seems Jacky Johnson is set to become more and more dear to me with every instalment. This book had twists and turns the whole way through, so much so that after only planning to read the beginning before getting in an early night, I ended up devouring the whole book in one sitting.
After thoroughly enjoying volume 1, I was intrigued to see where the writers would take Jupiter Jet next and they did not disappoint. The story sees Jacky fully ensconced in her new hero identity, and carving out a place for herself in her world when she experiences something all young people have to at some point in their development: the realisation that the adults in our life, our role models, our parents, are not always the flawless heroes they appear to be. That they are, in fact, very normal and often very flawed human beings, and that sometimes we have to be the hero we're looking for. This journey is mirrored in her little brother Chuck's own arc, too, which was amazing to witness.
I've heard it said that good stories are the ones that make you feel something, the ones you connect with. I talk a little about how I felt that in Jupiter Jet Volume 1 in my review, seeing Jacky struggle to be her little brother's everything whilst also dealing with her own feelings and issues. I honestly didn't expect for something to resonate with me just as much in this next instalment, but this did it. Because, let's be honest, we've all had that moment when we realise someone we look up to, or even idolise isn't perfect, that maybe they might actually really, really suck. (No? Just me?)
I think sometimes all-ages books can run the risk of being predictable to more mature readers but I honestly had no idea what was coming next and had so much fun finding out. As usual the artwork was excellent and it's just a wonderful book all together.
I can't wait until my little nieces and nephews are old enough to read it themselves, hopefully they'll have all five volumes to binge when they are!
The adventure continues for Jupiter Jet! Jason Inman and Ashley Victoria Robinson create a world with amazing characters and fun locations. I love that Jupiter Jet leaves the comfort of Olympic Heights and finds herself in new and exciting locations. The Forgotten Radio is not only a high fly adventure, but also has a lot to say about how children perceive their parents. The only issue I have with this volume is that I have to wait for volume three.
I discovered the second title in this series and I was able to pick up the characters and the story. I think this would be a good read-alike for the Amulet series. Jacky is part of a secret society that is protecting their planet. She flies into space to deal with her enemies, the Praetors. Jacky is double-crossed and has to figure out how to save herself. This story is exciting and the characters are complex.
