Stan & Jan Berenstain is a biography about the authors of the popular book, the Berenstain Bears. These books are written for primary and intermediate aged children. This book was about how Stanley and Janice got their start in book writing. The met in art school and admired eachothers art work. They then began to draw cartoons together. As time went on they created the Berenstein Bears and a classic was born. The Berenstein Bears was exepted by a company that published Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss actually suggested changes in the first Berenstein Bears and Jan and Stan re-wrote the book 6 times. In later years their children also joined in on creating the books. Jan and Stan still write books today. I rated this book with 4 stars because it is very informative but also enjoyable. There are many photographs which are visually pleasing to children. The book is also a good example of text features. It includes a table of contents, index, glossary, bold print, subtitles and online references to do furthe research. I think this book would be appealing to children, especially children who love the Berenstein Bears. I could use this book in the classroom when teaching about biographies, non-fiction, or text features.
