V.A.M.P.: Book One—Serena & Katerina

Rate this book
Is it possible to find a second chance at love?
Being rich, powerful, and thirty years old for eternity has its perks. Being a heartbroken, 800-year-old lesbian vampire, not so much.

Serena Vanderen is chairman and CEO of V.A.M.P. Global. Advertiser by day; scientist, murderer, and cleanup artist for her pharmaceutical client by night.
Since her girlfriend was killed thirty years ago, Serena has been going through the motions of running her advertising agency while grieving and trying to armor her heart against any more pain. But when Katerina Davenport attends her company gala, everything changes.

Can this captivating, gorgeous, sexy redhead help Serena find love again? Will she reignite Serena’s long-dormant sexual desires? Will Katerina be able to accept that she is falling in love with a vampire? What dark secrets does the agency conceal that challenges their love—and Katerina’s safety?

Serena & Katerina is the first book of the V.A.M.P. series, beginning the erotic romance that follows the lives of the title characters and transcends time.

4 stars - If you are in the mood for a vampire romance, this was a really good read. Be warned it is loooooong. There is a ton of s*x. The last third was not as good as the first part of the book, but even that being said, I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

I'm not usually one to write reviews and am not so great at it but I had to do this one as I can count on one hand the amount of books i have not finished. This book follows Serena who is in 800 year old vampire and her love interest Katerina who is a photographer that freelances for her company. this book is written in the first-person and switches perspective between characters every other chapter. The problem for me is some of these chapters are extremely short and when we switch characters we have to basically re-read the same scene from their perspective. This really brought me out of the story and made me lose interest as I didn't need to hear both sides of the story within minutes of reading it. While the sex scenes were steamy and on the erotica side it was not enough to keep me from skimming through to see if something caught my interest. While it might have got more interesting or had a great ending when I start to skim it's time for me to take a step back from a book. perhaps I will make it back to this one day as I really enjoy paranormal or fantasy genres.

Interesting

I liked the main characters and their relationship. I liked the steamy parts. One part of the story was not something I cared for, but it is a good book overall.

Oh God, 68% was all I could do.

There is no plot, the development of the MCs is non-existent and I consider some of their behavior (especially Katerina) childish. The book is long, yes, but the writing makes it last forever. Flat, completely flat.

Nothing happened. Okay, sorry, something happened (I mean, a human and a vampire, it's a plot we all expect will happen), and they solved it like adults. I'm fine with that, you know, communication, but God, give me something. A little drama, emotion, a mystery, SOMETHING.

I love vampires and sapphic vampires are a huge YES for me and I don't usually quit books, I always finish them even if it's just because I'm that stubborn, but I can't handle this one.

there’s no plot in this book until you get to like the 60% mark and even then it’s a bit rough until the 80% mark

I rarely DNF books, and usually I at least try to skim through some of it to find something that would caught my attention and let me finish it, but unfortunately I hit 58% mark and I just can't find it.

There's barely any plot in this, MCs are just bearable, and I'm feeling underwhelmed. I don't feel the connection between characters, it just sort of happened and was. Lot of dialogues also left me feeling... icky.

The spice itself was the best part of this book, even though conversations during it could be better. They felt forced.

I really wanted to like this one, especially since there's not a lot of good sapphic vampire fantasy, but this one despite being a long one with potential, had basically nothing happening with instant relationship jump.

I greatly enjoy vampire books especially the sapphic books. I loved both Serena and Katerina. But, the grammatical errors and sentence structure made this book a challenge to get through. Overall, lovely book and on to the next one!

VÀ.M,P. (Serena & Katerina -- Book 1)

This being the first book by this author. The story and the read was a good one but the editing could have been better as errors did occur now and then but didn't stop it from it been a good book..
Serina iis an 800 year old vampire and hasn't had a mate for 30 years since her ,mates death. She attends ado and see woman with the most incredible blue eyes. and finds out her name is Katerina Davenport a photographer. Brook is Serena second and there is more characters as well The story revols around
Serena and a drug they are developing? This is about danger, kidnapping! death, sex, love and more.

I liked the premise but the writing was at an average fanfic level and there was such a heavy ‘men-writing-women’ vibe from this that it actually made me stop reading a couple of times to double check if a woman actually wrote this at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a pen name tbh.

This is a super cheesy, insta-love, urban fantasy full of inexplicably incompetent vampires and lots of pretty forgettable smut.

It definitely wasn’t well written but having said that I can understand how a mediocre vampire romance book can also be a guilty pleasure, especially when sapphic supernatural romance isn’t exactly a genre overflowing with amazing novels so no judgement to all the people who loved it.

Super Sexy Start!

At 30 years old, Serena Vanderen is the rich and powerful Chairman & CEO of V.A.M.P. Global - a highly successful advertising agency with its home office in New York City. But looks can be deceiving… In reality Serena is 800 years old, the oldest and most powerful vampire in North America, and a direct descendant of one of the four original Elder families. While her agency provides services for many companies, their biggest client is Asteria Pharmaceutical. In exchange for exclusive advertising rights, V.A.M.P. utilizes some of their unique talents to help Asteria get FDA approval for their drugs within two years as opposed to the more standard ten years.

Katerina Davenport is a talented and beautiful 29 year old photographer dating a creative director at V.A.M.P. When she attends the company’s 200th anniversary as his date, she is immediately enthralled by the incredibly sexy and classically beautiful Ms. Vanderen.

Serena is instantly and equally smitten with Katerina - somewhat shocking as Serena has not had this type of reaction to another since the death of her lover, Tori, 30 years ago. And although Katerina has never been in a relationship with another woman, she can’t deny her interest and her moral compass compels her to breakup with her boyfriend before they can act on their mutual attraction.

Their chemistry is explosive and its not long before the sparks fly. But how long can Serena keep her secrets from her new love? Especially when Asteria’s main competitor seems to have employed some vampires of their own?

V.A.M.P.: Book One - Serena & Katerina is a contemporary, dark secret romance with a ton of spice, mystery and conspiracies. And vampires! Lots and lots of vampires doing lots of vampire stuff with some violence and blood, but it’s not gratuitous. The characters are complex and flawed. The world around the vampire lore is intricate. All of this helps inform an enjoyable story with a compelling plot.

The book is long. Definitely the longest book I’ve read this year. But it doesn’t feel long! If you are squeamish this probably isn’t the book for you. But if you are into vampires with a heavy dose of sapphic steaminess, Book One is a super sexy start to the series! Just be prepared to phase directly into Book Two :)

V.A.M.P.: Book One—Serena & Katerina

“Oh, yes, Serena. I love you being in me!” I started to rhythmically push the silicone dildo in until I hit Katerina’s G-spot and then pulled it all the way out, only to slam it back into her as fast as I could. With my strength and speed, I was able to fill her up and stimulate her clit at the same time so she had no rest. Her body was shaking under me as I plunged in and out, fucking her. I grabbed her ass cheeks and pulled her as tight as I could toward me as I buried myself deep inside her pussy. At that moment, I knew I owned her. After this, it would only get more intense. Quote from the book

Serena's world came to a halt the moment her eyes locked with Katerina's at the party she had organized. It had been years since Serena had felt this way about another woman, her heart still heavy from the loss of her previous love, Tori. But now, a glimmer of hope flickered in Serena's heart as she contemplated the possibility of love with Katerina.

Maria, Serena's loyal confidant, had been by her side since she turned 18. Serena trusted her with every fiber of her being. And then there was Brooke, Serena's trusted assistant, who had been with her for years. Intelligent and knowledgeable about every aspect of Serena's life, both personal and professional, Brooke was an invaluable asset.

The book they were discussing was an absolute masterpiece. Serena and Katerina's characters had captivated her from the very beginning. Both extraordinary, gifted, and successful in their own ways, they were a force to be reckoned with.

But it was Serena who truly stole the spotlight. As a vampire who had lived for centuries, she had meticulously planned every aspect of her life, from her business ventures to the intimate gatherings with her three companions. Her attention to detail was commendable, leaving no room for error.

And then there was the steamy sex scene in the book, one that set the pages ablaze with passion. Serena couldn't help but blush at the intensity of it all. This was her first encounter with the author's work, but it certainly wouldn't be her last. She knew that this series had captured her heart and would become her new favorite.

I have a weird amount of thoughts about this book. I really wanted to like it, as there is not nearly enough insane and fun lesbian romance/smut in the world. And the concept is really here but the execution… just was not it. Somehow feels both sonic and glacial paced at the same time. Things jump into action with barely any build up, which is fine for such a story! But then just seem to… stall or repeat for the first quarter of the story which immediately killed the initial interest. There’s too much smut for it to be a general book to recommend, but the smut that is there is too spread out or short paced and repetitive to be that interesting. There are a few really funny lines in it though, but how intentional they are, I’m not sure…
The way the romance plot and other plot were written did not intertwine well at all either. It’s basically “ok we banged now I’m talking droningly about 9-5 office work but it’s okay because it’s EVIL BIOTECH!”. I don’t expect the world’s most airtight plot in my smut, but it was distracting enough to take me out of the experience. And the characterization… Basically characterization jumped around a lot in ways that caused crazy whiplash while reading. It felt like it wanted to be a truly dark romance, but couldn’t commit all the way, trying to mellow things out. But this just made the characters come off as even worse, honestly.
That being said, I think the author has potential. Maybe I’m just super optimistic because there aren’t a whole lot of people writing for this type of lesbian fantasy right now. Go all in with darker characters, fix the pacing issues and the lack of plot cohesion, and I’ll be interested again.

This is an erotica trying desperately hard to be a romance. There are a lot of sex scenes with very little plot, and any interactions are drawn out exceedingly unnecessarily long.

In most books I've read with perspective switches the switching tends to add something to the story that couldn't be told from only one person's point of view. However, these switches add nothing. It doesn't matter if one character is a vampire and the other isn't, if both their personalities have borderline identical thoughts never ranging far from, "she's hot. I must have her." It also doesn't help that the vampire MC is unlikable and callous, while the human MC has no depth or background beyond having a boyfriend to run off.

This book also contradicts itself often. Too often for any semblance of literary function, in my opinion. (Early on Serena notes vampires don't need sleep for energy, but she likes to be meditative to remain focused. A few chapters later she sleeps a lot. She says her live-in women she has for meals don't touch her while she touches them as a way to keep their distance. However, she repeatedly stops her girlfriend from touching her, and somehow this only confuses or upsets her for about a millisecond. Later on Katerina finally touches her intimately, yet she already 'knows what Serena likes', when she literally hasn't done that yet with her despite how many times they seem to end up in bed. There are more instances of the plot not making sense, but it's too many to list.)

All and all this read like a first draft that someone forgot to expunge the excess fluff from. And while I usually try to give the first book in series the benefit of the doubt, I won't here. I tortured myself trying to get through this, so I honestly don't care if the series get better.

I enjoyed reading this much more at the beginning and quite liked the smut every other chapter, but I feel it dragged on far longer than it should have.
Serena initially came across as a smart and powerful person, and Katerina was respectably self-employed. Along the way, Katerina became a giggling schoolgirl with no life outside of shagging Serena, and Serena herself reacts to the plot disasters in the most illogical and incompetent ways, completely dismantling her previously established controlled persona.
Other grievances include the garbled use of overly formal language and modern day slang unbefitting of a 800 year old billionaire, the overall results are very stilted conversations which is only really forgivable if English is not the author's first language.
I was more interested in how Bettina's possible new relationship would go but there was none of that in this book. Unfortunately while I did enjoy some aspects of the story I'm not willing to pick up the rest of the series, having lost respect for the main characters.

Good until it wasn’t

So I’ve read all three books before I did a review.
I loved the story, I loved most of the characters.

Book 1 was a great read worth taking a chance on. 4.5
Book 2 again a great story by now you are invested . 4.5
Book 3 great read but be prepared for a major disappointment. Looking at the time line these books were written, there probably won’t be a book 4 and that’s where the disappointment begins. If there is a book 4 coming then I’m sorry for the review, I feel the author got lazy and left so much out, it left you with so many questions and no end it just ended, the story was exciting but like I said she just left so much out I won’t give details but be just prepared to be let down. If I’d known how it ended I would have never started the series I give this book the lowest rating at a 3 because it was such a let down.

DNF got through 50% but didn't like the Vampires. . .

I like my vampires over most supernaturals, I really do, but I guess the ethics of these Vamps were too icky for me. The fact one of the MC was using humans for clinical research and not caring if they died. Nope. To immoral even for a supernatural. I wanna at least like the Vampire MC so I can love the possible relationship growing between her and the other MC, but I can't do that if I already think she's horrible and a villain. IDK others seem to love the book, and following books, so probably just my issue, but I've tried to repeatedly to get into the book but can't sorry.

Can I get a fierce hot vampire, please?!

Ohh my!! This book was fantastic! Hot, steamy and suspenseful! I couldn't get enough. I was reading it on my breaks at work. Serena and Katerina were charismatic, funny and so hot! I enjoyed the explanation of the blood in the wine bottles and the name of the person, the year and the state. So creative. I didn't mind the back in forth in the chapters. I liked the different point of views and Brooke being in there too! That cliffhanger though! I can't wait to start the next one.

Surprisingly good

I enjoy a good vampire but let’s be honest, a lot of them are a bit campy. And this started to feel the same, in the beginning, but slowly got more and more interesting. By the last few chapters, I was biting my nails and stayed up way past by bed time, because I just had to know the ending. Now I’m anxiously awaiting book 2. Kudos to this author for blending a lot of genres into, what I hope, will be a very compelling series.

The idea off this book was good but it failed to deliver. I found the characters to be immature and annoying and i really couldn't connect to them. I can't believe that a straight woman would fall for another woman so quickly. It was all instant and the relationship was actually cringe worthy in places. I tried so hard and really wanted to like it but the story line was bland. For an 800 year old vampire who had had human lovers in the past she fell so quick and there was no suspense what so ever and those live in girls.....geez talk about annoying.

I was in the mood for a vamping fiction and this book fit the bill. A wee bit on the wordy side, reminded me of those romance novels my mom used to read where ya sorta roll your eyes at the profuse confessions of love and adoration, but the action was good and the steamy scenes were hot and heavy. Delivered on all the lesbian and vampire tropes 10 fold so if you are looking for the sexy vampire power suit turned enraged possessive lover, this will do nicely:)

DNF.

I only managed to read 20% of this book, which is a shocker. There aren’t many books I haven’t managed to finish, but I did try.

I expected an 800 year old vampire to sound less like a teenager with her first crush. It was all a little immature for my taste. It wasn’t my cup of tea.

I found the character profiles too similar, and I didn’t really like reading the same scene twice, from different perspectives.

Such a shame.

If you’re happy with an 800 year old vampire without moral compass (it’s fine to knock off high numbers of the poor and homeless in pursuit of getting drugs approved sooner then they would otherwise be) seducing the gorgeous human and then them having copious amounts of sex, then you’ll like this. I’ve sadly been drawn in enough to be curious where things go, but suspect I might be skimming all the sex in favour of there being some action…please let there be some action!

Just WOW!

Can't believe I waited so long to read this book! I have loved vampire stories since I was a kid and Kimberly knocks it out of the park! None of the vampire things feel contrived for the story line, and really do make sense.
As for Serena and Katerina, my gosh they're so beautiful. I love them both. And how all the characters interact is perfect.
I look forward to read the next 3 books!
Also what a cliffhanger!
Thanks Kimberly!!! 💜

Great longer read

I really enjoyed this book after stumbling upon it recently, no thanks to Amazon despite my reading list. It’s great to finally have a longer book to take some time with. The lack of distinct chapters and titles helped keep it flowing and didn’t give things away. Looking forward to the next one.
