A Lot Like Love is book one in the brand new series, Blue Moon Bay, by Jennifer Snow. What a lovely story this was. And I loved the setting for this! A historical B & B on the California Coast. I loved picturing how beautiful it was in my mind. A swoony single dad, an adorable 9 year old little girl, I loved it!
Sarah Lewis has always loved the world of technology. She thought by thirty two she’d be on her own but she was still climbing the corporate ladder, at the beck and call of her boss at her firm in Los Angeles. There was no time in her life for anything else but work. When Sarah’s Grandmother dies back in Blue Moon Bay where she grew up, Sarah has to take a couple of days off for the funeral, much to the chagrin of her boss. But when the will is read and Sarah is named the new owner of her grandmother’s B & B, Dove’s Nest, she’s completely shocked. The place is falling apart and she is the most unlikely to handle such a place. She should sell it. But she can’t accept that someone else would tear it down and put in a high rise. So she’ll get it renovated, then sell it. And of course, who better to handle the job than her old high school crush.
Wes Sharrun’s wife passed away three years ago. Now he is single dad to his nine year old daughter, Marissa, and trying to keep his construction business afloat. When Sarah hires him to renovate her B & B, he is sure this might be just the thing to jump start his company. He knew Sarah back in high school but this Sarah is all grown up and for the first time since his wife died, feelings begin to awaken.
As Wes and Sarah spend time together, they get to know each other again and the attraction is undeniable. Wes’s daughter seems to have more in common with Sarah than she does him. They both love computers. His daughter has a gift that he can’t understand. Wes prefers to keep things old school. His daughter should be outside playing sports, not sitting in front of a screen. But he can’t deny that Sarah has such a positive influence on Marissa. But Sarah’s going back to LA when the renovation is finished. He needs to keep both his and his daughter’s hearts protected, doesn’t he?
I loved watching Wes and Sarah fall. And Marissa was just so adorable. I also really enjoyed the side story of Sarah discovering some secrets her grandmother has kept all her life, secrets that help Sarah to see things in a new way. This was such an enjoyable book and I look forward to the next book in the series, A Lot Like Christmas.
Perfectly Sweet summer romance! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ this story of rebuilding the family home, surrounded by good friends, your high school crush that has only gotten better with age, in a small town atmosphere, makes for the perfect read on a lazy summer afternoon.

...
I really liked this book. All the characters had a really nice dynamic. I especially loved Sarah and Marissa. Their bonding was just so cute. Marissa really just needed someone who got her and Sarah did. I liked Wes too. He frustrated me at times, but I love a single dad who just wants the best for his kid. He really just wanted to be better, and it was so cute.
I liked Sarah and Wes together. I think that they balanced each other out well and Sarah opens up Wes’s eyes to a lot of things he just doesn’t see.
Sarah finding out more about Dove and,in the process, learning more about what she really wanted was just fantastic.
This was a really nice romance, and it was a perfect read for summer. It’s also a really easy read which nice. It was just really nice as a whole.

My Thoughts - Story
This was such an awesome start to a new series by Jennifer Snow. First book in the series, we are introduced to the little coastal town of Blue Moon Bay...and after reading this first book, I can't wait to see what Ms. Snow has in store for us next! She has already starting introducing characters who will be getting their own books which made the story even more interesting!
I loved the relationship that Wes and Sarah had and how it all stemmed from a crush Sarah had on Wes back in high school. The relationship between Wes' daughter, Marissa, and Sarah was heartfelt and developed nicely by Ms. Snow's writing.
A B&B, a secret back lost love story, a sexy construction worker, a technological klutzy, pretty girl, and a 9 year old matchmaker and you have A Lot Like Love
Reason for Reading – NetGalley Review Story – 5 out of 5 Stars Steam – 4 out of 5 Stars Angst – 5 out of 5 Stars Writing – 4.5 out of 5 Stars Content Flow – 4.5 out of 5 Stars Would Read More from Author? Yes Recommend To – Lovers of a touching romance
I freaking loved this one SO much, I swear JS writes the most authentic, mature characters that you can’t help rooting for. It’s the start of a new series and it has it all, an idyllic seaside setting, an adorable and precocious kid, sexy and steamy chemistry between Sarah and Wes. I was so charmed by this one and highly recommend it for romance fans
I liked this book, but it wasn't love for me. The concept was great - Sarah inherits a B&B in a very serious state of disrepair from her grandmother. The B&B is in the town where she grew up - and she has a lot of history their. Including with hometown football hero Wes. Sarah tutored Wes throughout his junior and senior year of high school - which pretty much allowed him to graduate. Sarah had a pretty major crush on Wes - but he had a girlfriend (who later became his wife). Since then, Sarah has gone on to have a career in developing and marketing apps - but when she inherits the inn she takes Wes up on his offer to renovate it, in hopes of selling for the best price.
She and Wes ( now a widower with a 9 year-old) connect. Sarah and Marissa especially find common ground with their love of technology - especially in the face of Wes's technophobia.
All of this would be more than enough for the plot of the book - but there was a lot more going on. There are subplots involving A high school frenemy who returns to town to host a family reunion, a lost love story based on letters between Sarah's grandmother and her first love, Wes trying to rebuild his business, and more. I think in the face of all the subplots - the main plot got a little lost. I also didn't love Wes. He is a devoted single dad - but his wishy washy behavior towards Sarah just didn't do it for me.
I also found Marissa to be wayyyyyy more mature than any 9 year old I know. I think maybe if she had been 11 or 12, even, I would have found her a more believable character. There was also one scene that just really really bothered me - and I almost DNF'd the book at that point -
So yeah - I wanted to love this book - but I think it needed more focus and less childishness on the part of the main characters.
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
Thank you to the publishers, the author, and booksforward for an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This reminds me of those cliche hallmark movies that you're addicted to, except a lot of sex. I didn't realise at the time of reading this that it was marketed as 18+ So keep that in mind if you plan on reading it.
I don't have too many complaints and rather enjoyed this book. It was a fast and addicting read, and I was able to finish it in under a day. And I really loved the small town vibes. Ah the reuniting between your high school crush and all those feels.
The characters were lovable. I really loved the different character interactions, especially between Marissa and Sarah. I loved the character development each character faced, like Sarah and her job, and Wes and the struggles he faced with being a single parent. It was realisticly portrayed and well done.
Wes is a great dad, a little overprotective but you can't blame him.
I had an issue with Marissa though. She just felt really mature for her age and the entire time I kept thinking of her as a teenager and not a 9 year old.
I loved the relationship and romance between Wes and Sarah, the angst and waiting was a little much for my heart to handle. My favourite was the scene on the amusement park ride. Ah my poor heart.
Ngl the ending left me with a few questions, like what happened to Lia and what happened to that old man who owns the glass shop. Did he ever find out? I'm going to need answers and more books.
All in all, it wasn't a horrible read. A fast read to get me out of a reading slump and a great way to end the month. I would definitely recommend, the romance was fun after reading thrillers and fantasies. I did skip over the smut but that's just a personal preference.
A Lot Like Love is the first book in the new Blue Moon Bay series by Jennifer Snow. I loved it. I simply loved everything about the book. It has all the elements that one can expect from a contemporary romance novel with the potential to be turned into a lovely Hallmark movie--charm, humour, a cozy, idyllic seaside town, a second chance romance between beautiful, smart & quirky heroine Sarah Lewis and gorgeous & somewhat goofy hero Wes Sharrun who has a precocious and genius nine year old daughter acting like a matchmaker of sorts, interesting side characters and a B&B which becomes a major setting for the whole story to play out--simply put a sweet, charming and heartwarming book.
I have read another contemporary book by the author (a different series) and also her thrillers and have enjoyed them. A Lot Like Love is a strong start to this new series and I look forward to reading more.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher Entangled Publishing LLC/Entangled Amara and the author for providing me with an e-Arc of the book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A Lot Like Love is the introductory book to Jennifer Snow’s Blue Moon Bay series, and I can safely say it’s a place I’d love to visit.
Widower and single-dad Wes Sharrun - the towns golden boy, ex-footballer, now construction company owner he spends his days doing more work for free than he does getting paid for it, so when Sarah Lewis inherits her late Grandmothers Inn; Dove’s Nest and decides to renovate it pre-sale, before jetting back to L.A. he sees it as an opportunity to boost the businesses coffers as well as show exactly how good his work is.
This is a couple with a past, he was the school jock, she the studious nerd who tutored him and secretly fancied him. Although as they start to reconnect again, that young attraction may not have been as one sided as she initially thought. This is an extremely slow burn book in the way of romance, which is understandable as he is a single father, and she’s not initially planning to stay in town, and most of it is spent with the two of them circling each other. Although, I liked that we got too meet a few of the other town folk and Sarah’s single BFF’s, as well as the side story of her Grandmother’s love life told in the form of her journals from back in the 40’s.
And that’s why this one fell a little short for me, because although I didn’t struggle to read it, I just felt the aspect of her grandmothers past had a whole lot more to give to the story as did the actual relationship between her and Wes. I wanted more depth and development in both areas, because I felt short-changed on them by the time we reached the sweet epilogue. I’m hoping now that the series has been set up the author gives her characters more depth in future books because I see real potential in this series.

If you're looking for a great beachside fluff book, look no further. Jennifer Snow delivers a Hallmark worthy novel about second chances that is both swoon-worthy and heart-poundily sexy. When Sarah inherits her grandmother's historic B&B she did NOT expect to have to renovate so immensely. In order to sell, she must update the B&B so she can get back to her life in the city. But high school crush, Wes arrives to start working, things get a little messy. Little by little, Sarah finds ways to stay behind and her attraction to Wes seems to have weathered the stormy years apart.
I loved this story so much! We get two POV's here, one from Sarah and the other from Wes. Wes's side of the story was the most interesting. He'd lost his wife to cancer, so he's raising his daughter, Marissa, all on his own. He's hesitant to start a romance, both because he doesn't think he had the right to and because of his daughter. He soon realizes, Marissa is the one pushing him closer to Sarah and those old feelings from high school begin to awaken.
Sarah and Wes are super cute together. They both have reasons NOT to get together, but realize their attraction to each other isn't easily ignored.
Pros:
sexy construction worker breezy beachside B&B background family secrets an amusement park scene ( I AM GARBAGE FOR THESE)
Cons:
None
I recommend this to anyone looking for a fluffy romance to read by the pool or beach.
4.75 stars A Lot Like Love, by Sara Snow, is my first book by this author, but it will absolutely not be my last! I loved this story. It was utterly enchanting and exactly what I hope for in a romance novel. It was immediately engaging, capturing my interest from page one and holding it steady throughout the entirety of the story. It was so sweet, it made my heart happy, but it was also smart, without characters making irrational choices that most people in real life would never make. It lacked the emphasis on overdone, and oftentimes frustrating tropes featured in many romance book series. The story was fun, but thoughtful, and though it had more steam than I’m personally comfortable with, it also had enough of a tender, heart-warming aspect that was deeply gratifying.
I thought the technology-app angle in the story was really interesting and a nice variation, as well as the new, appropriately chosen vision for the B&B. I really loved the characters and hated to see our relationship come to an end. A Lot Like Love is delightful story through-and-through and I look forward to the next in the series.
Sarah is back in Blue Moon Bay after she inherited the shabby B&B her grandmother closed years ago. The plan is to renovate the place and sell it then get back to L.A. But it's going to take weeks, maybe months, and the one doing the reno is Sarah's high school crush, the guy she used to tutorated. Back in the days they were friends but he broke her heart without being aware and they never talked again after she left town.
Wes remember her as book-smart and klutzy and with the embarassing meet-cute when he see her again maybe she haven't change all that much despite being a city girl now but what he feels now might still be friendly but maybe less platonic than it used to be. Widower and a single dad, Wes have to think of his daughter first but maybe Sarah can help him see how to connect more with his 9 years-old girl.
I enjoyed Sarah and Wes's romance just as much as Wes and Marissa father-daughter relationship and Sarah and Marissa new friendship. It's just that a few details like too much social medias critiques (even if balanced with some good points) and the fact at two times Sarah takes important decisions about Marissa's life without asking her dad first tainted the story for me.
A Lot Like You is a sweet, delightfully passionate tale featuring the hardworking, ruggedly handsome, single father Wes who broke his high school tutors heart when he never seemed to notice who was sitting right in front of him, and the loyal, intelligent Sarah who after inheriting her grandmother’s neglected B&B may have to finally put her heartache aside and work with the one man she’s never quite forgotten.
The writing is amusing and light. The characters, including all the supporting characters, are kind, considerate, and fun-loving. And the plot is a heartfelt, entertaining mix of friendship, family, introspection, parenthood, support, love, community, and new beginnings.
Overall, A Lot Like Love is a charming, romantic, heartwarming treat by Snow that’s an absolutely fantastic kick-off to the new Blue Moon Bay series with its idyllic setting and endearing characters.

This is 3.5 stars, rounded down.
I was honestly going to round this up to 4 stars, but when I just sat down to start writing this review, my memory was a most distinctly not a 4 star experience. So this is rounded down.
I did mostly enjoy this, but there were a few things that would keep chafing, and somehow I had a harder time getting through this one and getting myself to keep reading than I had expected to.
The first thing was, irritatingly, the instalove. If it even was instalove. The thing is, since this is supposed to be a second chance romance, this should ideally not feel like instalove since the basis for the relationship should already be there. And it was. It just, I don't know, didn't feel like it was like that, and it felt a lot like instalove (see what I did there? That's the best pun I've ever come up with).
And the problem lies in the fact that this would keep fluctuating for me. But I think it should qualify a bit as instalove because she was supposed to hate the guy but then she has like no qualms obsessing and fantasising about him (don't even get me started on the fantasising), so it felt like it. And I'm stopping here because it feels like I'm going around in circles.
The next problem I had was the kid. Marissa is supposed to be a nine year old kid, and believe me, she does not behave like one; I know nine year olds, I have like at least 6 cousins in that age group and, at least till before 2020, a lot of school juniors whom I knew around that age and interacted with regularly, and Marissa does not behave that age.
If I were to assign an age, I would say that Marissa is at least 13. It fits in with her style of talking and general demeanour, and would feel much more genuine. I would want her to be like 15, but I could have settled for 13. There is an inherent teenage feel to Marissa, and it just doesn't fit in with a 9 year old personality.
Some of the other problems I had are slightly spoilery, so this might be vague, but I didn't like how personal details for Marissa, like phone number and real name, were put out on the internet, especially because she was supposed to be a 9 year old. I would have thought it common sense that such responsibilities, like contact details and bank accounts (not what I was talking about above but also something I wanted to address) would and should belong to the guardian. And that is why I think Wes' reaction was understandable and not something he should really have had to apologise for.
Another thing I didn't completely love was the way Jack (was that his name? It was definitely something with a J) didn't really get a complete ending? I wanted some conclusion from that plotline, at least if he read it or not in the end, some note, something!?! I cried, if only a little, but I really wanted something more there.
I loved the way Sarah and Wes reconnected, and the way Wes wonders sometimes why Sarah doesn't want anything to do with him, but that was part of the problem; it only happened sometimes. I wanted it to happen more, and happen constantly.
Even though there were a lot of faults for me, I loved the angst and mostly enjoyed the romance. I will definitely be checking out more by this author, and this series (I had a feeling that we might get more from the best friends stories). I did very much enjoy the whole resurrection of the inn, and I loved how Marissa and Sarah formed a bond, especially with that surprise at the end!
On the whole, a good feel-good read. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys small town romances, second chance romances, kid-fics (there's a kid involved), and slight mystery.
The first in a new series by Jennifer Snow, takes place in the small town of Blue Moon Bay, CA. Sarah Lewis returns for her grandmother's funeral and surprise- she inherited the run down B&B, Dove's Nest. She works in LA for a company that develops new apps and doesn't understand why her grandmother would leave B&B to her. While trying to decide what to do with it, Wes Sharrun, her high school crush and tutoring student convinces her to restore it. He never knew she had a crush on him, thinking that she was a genius and he a dumb jock. And he had a girlfriend, Kelly, who he married and had a child with. He had also been drafted by the NFL, but an injury after his third season, brought them back home and he opened his own construction business. Kelly had also succumbed to cancer 5 years before. Marissa, his daughter is a delight. She is just like Sarah, in her genius and interests and they bond instantly. While they now have a second chance, Sarah is scared of getting hurt again and Wes is scared of making a mistake as a parent. So it takes matchmaking by Marissa to get what she wants.
I very much enjoyed reading this book. The characters are engaging and the plot realistic. I read an ARC provided by NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
This book was perfect for a day at the beach! It had romance, humor, drama and Sarah’s character was someone I could definitely be friends with! I will definitely be reading more books by Jennifer Snow!
A Lot Like Love by Jennifer Snow is that kind of dreamy romance that makes my romance addicted heart blissfully happy. Set in a beautiful small town, this second chance romance delivers swoon and heartaching feels perfectly.
Sarah Lewis has a demanding career in a digital company in LA and she has no idea why her grandmother has left her dilapidated B&B in Blue Moon Bay to someone introvert and klutzy like her. She has to make some renovations before she can put it up for sale and Wes, her childhood crush is the contractor. Will their meeting go beyond repairing the house and proceed to mending hearts? Wes has responsibilities like being single dad to smart nerdy nine year old Marissa and trying to run his business while Sarah's life is in LA.
I have read so many stories in similar plot line and still I never get tired of it. A girl from city coming back to her hometown and falling in love while taking care of some sentimental property..I don't know why this makes my heart sing every single time. May be it's about taking risk, going on adventure and building something fresh from the scratch. And the eye candy man making me swoon doesn't hurt either. Wes has lost his wife five years back and he is super protective of Marissa. He doesn't understand her fascination with technology and coding because he is old fashioned and more about athletic. He is a great dad and Sarah just helped him to connect to Marissa in a deeper way. Marissa is just awesome! I love this kid so much. And Sarah is an amazing woman. She finally realised that she is no longer happy working in a job that sucked out her passion with technology. She took a risk and it paid off. They have a beautiful happily ever after that couldn't come in a better way.
In today's complex world, simple love stories like A Lot Like Love by Jennifer Snow give the perfect escape. I lose myself in the pages and end up with a happy heart.
I reviewed an early copy voluntarily received through Netgalley and Entangled Publishing
What a super sweet story without being super cheesy. I’m a fan of Jennifer Snow’s other series, and now I’m a fan of this one too :) Sarah works hard for her career in the tech field, and climbing her way up the corporate ladder until her grandmother passes away and leaves her the B&B that she ran in her hometown, but when Sarah gets there she finds it needs a lot of TLC and updating if she’s going to be able to sell it. While she stays in town for the funeral, her high school crush comes to see her and their old flame sparks. Wes and his daughter Marissa are coping with the loss of their wife and mother 5 years ago, and Wes is struggling to keep his construction business afloat. When Sarah hires Wes to do the renovation to the B&B, it could make all the difference to his business and his life. As they spend more and more time together, they realize that their spark is growing into a full blown flame but they don’t know how to handle it-her career is her life, and he has to protect his daughter. However, his daughter quickly bonds with Sarah over their love for technology and wanting to help Wes’s business get back on track after having to take time off to care for his wife while she was sick and then for his daughter by himself. During the renovation, Sarah finds her grandmother’s journals and learns some things she never knew, which was a really cool side story, and helped Sarah see her life in a new way. It was nice to see them find their way back to each other and create a new family with Marissa. There’s a little bit of steam, but there’s more sweetness than anything. Thanks to Entangled and Netgalley for this Arc in exchange for my review.
Sarah comes back to the small town she grew up in for her grandmother’s funeral where she finds out she inherited the “needs a lot of renovations” inn. She’s confused why her grandmother would leave her the inn and she just wants to sell it as soon as possible and go back to her life in L.A. And who better to hire than her high school crush, now devastatingly attractive single father?
I liked where the story was going at the beginning, it was a really cute concept and I was hoping it would be a perfect beach read as some of the reviews claimed.
And then we have to move on to things I didn’t unfortunately like. There were the characters, who I couldn’t help but be irritated with all the time, especially Wes. And why was everybody so perfect-looking? I read plenty of books all about hot people but some of the descriptions made me stare at my kindle for a good few minutes. This was a personal thing and I have no idea why it bothered me so much. It took me some time to read through it because I didn’t like the writing and the whole idea died on me pretty quickly.
I always really hope I will like the ARC’s I get because I feel horrible leaving a bad review of a book I got for free, but I didn’t like this one. But I’m not giving up on Jennifer Snow - all of her books have high ratings so I’m sure I’ll find something more suitable for me. This just wasn’t something up my alley.
Also I had this rewiev in my drafts for a good month and I forgot to post it 😂 Leave it to me go an ARC and forget about it.
Sarah and Wes were the couple that could be, if only they have each other a chance. Thanks to a meddling nine year old (who is brilliant!), and an inheritance that raised several eyebrows (but she sure knew what she was doing, even beyond the grave!), they may just get the chance neither is expecting.
It was my first time reading this author's work, so I didn't know what to expect, but I liked the cover and the synopsis, so I was ready for a new adventure. What I got... was that and more! It was a sweet story filled with the much adulting, heartache, and humor, and it kept my attention the whole way through. I loved Sarah's continued attempts at resisting, while focusing on all that needed doing... even when it meant trying to keep a promise to a little girl. I loved Wes in all his handy man glory, giving advice where his expertise allowed, and always looking out for the customer, sometimes to the detriment of his own pocket. His heart was broken but oh so large, and just needed the right adjustments to see all that was before him. The ending was just right, even if it looked like it was going all wrong, and it's certainly one that Contemporary Romance fans won't want to miss!
I took my sweet time reading this book. The publisher was super kind sending me an ARC and I appreciate it so much! I want to start by saying that even though i got this book from the publisher I will still be super honest in my review. I give this book a 4.5 ⭐️ The first line completely trapped me. It was funny and sarcastic. The banter between characters was great! It was a super easy read and I really enjoyed it. That being said, even though I loved the first couple of pages, I had a hard time getting through the first few chapters. I do not know if it was the fact that I was reading this book on my phone and I got easily distracted or if I found the first couple of chapters a little boring. On the other hand, the second half of the book was super engaging. It was heartbreaking, funny, and a mystery all in one. I teared up so many times. I could not stop reading. Regarding the spiciness, I would give it 2.5 🌶. It had a handful of well written and tense moments, but they were mostly on the second half of the book. Overall, the boon was great! I recommend it, especially if you liked movies/books like Falling Inn Love, The Notebook, and Dear John
Sweet simple story about two high school friends that meet again when Sarah returns home for her grandmother’s funeral. This time both are “free” but is it the right time for them to find a HEA together?
What I liked: * The setting and small town vibe * The meet-cute and reaction when Sarah and Wes realize they are face to face again fifteen years after Sarah left town. * Marissa: 9 year old daughter of Wes although she seemed much older than the nine years she was supposed to be. * Wes’s love of his deceased wife Kelly * That Wes was able to move on after his football career was kaput * Wes’s generous nature * Sarah’s relationship with Marissa – they were two peas in a pod in many ways * The B&B – it almost had a personality of its own * The introduction of other characters that will play a part in the series * That there was a happy ending
What I didn’t like: * I didn’t feel as invested in Sarah and Wes as I would have liked to so it was hard to care about their relationship growing. * The feeling that Sarah’s grandmother’s story was unnecessary to the contemporary romance…and it was a bit of a downer. * Trying to figure out the purpose of Lia in the story – the frenemy.
Did I like this book? It was okay Would I read more in this series? Maybe
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Sarah Lewis is back in Blue Moon Bay to attend her Grandmother’s funeral and finds out she’s inherited her B&B. The B&B is so run down that she finds herself literally stuck in the staircase when all of a sudden her high school crush, Wes, saves the day. Wes is trying to get back on his feet after his wife’s passing and his construction company is barely scraping by. A renovation of Dove’s Nest would be just what he needs to move forward with his 9 year old daughter, Marissa. As the days go by, the chemistry starts to build between Sarah and Wes and her hopes at a second chance grow. Sarah and Marissa realize they have a lot in common when it comes to coding and building websites. Wes is afraid Marissa will be devastated when Sarah heads back to LA. Is it possible she would stay for them? * Second chance romance is my favorite and I think that’s because the chemistry is 🔥!This was an open door romance but easily skippable if that’s not your preference. A Lot Like Love was the perfect introduction to a seaside town and I’m looking forward to reading the 2nd book, A Lot Like Christmas, when it comes out!
This was great! I loved the relationship between Wes and his daughter Marissa, as well the relationship that developed between Sarah and Marissa. The mentorship from one STEM girl to another was fabulous too. I had a wonderful time in Blue Moon Bay!
4.5 stars This was a perfect book to read on vacation. It literally feels like a hallmark movie in book form. It follows Sarah who inherits her grandmothers b&b and goes to fix it up and who should be the construction person but her high school crush Wes. He is a single dad who lost his wife 3 years ago and has an amazing young daughter who hits it off with Sarah right away. And of course we know what happens. This was a sweet story of high school friends to lovers mixed with some great chemistry.
A cute story but there was a lot of inconsistencies that bugged me. The main character, Sarah, would say one thing and then on the next page, she turned around and said something else that didn’t line up with her first statement. I should have put a post-it in the text every time I read something like but, to show what I mean, but I didn’t 🙈
This is such a good book! I truly enjoyed reading it! It's a sweet, charming & moving story. Everything you want in a true second chance at love romance. Wes, Sarah & Marissa, steal your heart from the very first pages to the last. A Must Read Story!!
This is definitely my new favorite series by Jennifer Snow!!! I loved this story from page one. Sarah and Wes had amazing chemistry from the get go, I can't believe they waited this long to show it. I'm so in love with this new series!!! Jennifer Snow is definitely on my top author lists!!!
I really enjoyed Jennifer Snow's Wild River series, set in Alaska, so I was excited to see her publishing another small town romance series, this one in a much sunnier state on the West Coast. A Lot Like Love is the first in the Blue Moon Bay series, which is set in a small town in California. The town is super cute, the people are great, but, at the end of it all, the overall story didn't wow me. Was it bad? Definitely not! I just don't think it was as good as it could have been.
In a case of really unfortunate timing, I had recently read Mermaid Inn by Jenny Holiday (another Canadian romance author, like Snow). There were, at first glance, far too many similarities between the two and it took a little bit for me to shake it off. Really, it was a small town and a woman had been willed a B&B that she wasn't expecting from an elderly relative and was thrust together with a guy from her past. All the other little nuances were quite different, which I could see by the end of the story.
I found the character development to be a bit...lacking. Not too much with Sarah and Wes but the secondary characters did not stand out and I don't find myself wanting to get back to Blue Moon Bay immediately. Marissa, Wes' daughter, was the liveliest character in the whole story. I also struggled with a lot of the connections between them. Everyone seemed to have different memories of high school (don't ask me how long ago it was because there seemed to be conflicting timelines that I could not figure out) and I couldn't really understand, at times, why any of them interacted with the others. The whole Lia storyline seemed shoehorned in, even though the event was the catalyst for Sarah deciding what she wanted to do.
Despite all of the above, there were some great points to this romance. I loved that Sarah worked in the tech sector and that she could be a great role model for Marissa, who was obsessed with all things STEM. Wes was a great dad who wanted to support his daughter, even more so after his wife's death, but he's super old school and couldn't understand why his daughter would be into all that, even if he was trying. I appreciated that Sarah's final decision didn't really have anything to do with Wes (and Marissa). He played a part, for sure, but she knew what she needed to do from a career and personal (not romantic) perspective.
All in all, A Lot Like Love was...fine. I have a strong feeling this could have been a case of right book, wrong time because I really enjoyed Jennifer Snow's other romances. If you're a sucker for small town romances, you might really enjoy this one.
