When I first heard about this book, I was both curious & excited. I enjoy journal writing but frequently get discouraged when it comes to making time/space for writing. The 5-Minute Gratitude Journal changed this for me!
Unlike other pre-designed journals, the reflection questions vary from day-to-day.... yet each day is grounded in recognizing the positive aspects in our lives. The five minutes I would've spent mindlessly on social media are better invested in writing in this book. I feel better when I do it - whether it's first thing in the morning, at the end of my day, or in between meetings when I need a pick-me-up.
I enjoyed it so much - I purchased additional copies for friends ---- and I recommend it as a tool for those homeschooling kids in middle/high school. This is an easy daily writing assignment that provides long-term purpose and meaning.
This small book yields BIG results!

This is a nice journal, but one that is better used as a once in awhile write in, not an everyday journal. I gave it three stars because the questions in the journal are pretty good, but there are only a handful of them and they are used repeatedly I used this journal every day, so that became monotonous. There are only so many times that you can answer the questions "an ability that I am fortunate to have" or "something I currently have that I've always wanted" etc without beginning to repeat yourself if you are using this as an every day journal.
I would recommend this book if you are only going to write in it once or twice a month, and use a different journal for everyday or writing in more often. I liked it a lot in the beginning, but it only took a couple of weeks for me to become very bored with the same questions over and over.

I don't think I could have come across this book at a better time. While most of us are struggling with daily life, I first opened this book on a day that had been filled with more than my ordinary struggles.

Each page has a place for date you're filling it out, an inspirational quote, and a few quick prompts to get you thinking about what you're thankful for. I loved that the title held true - this really can take only 5 minutes, or you get delve a little deeper if the spirit moves you. The prompts range from thought-provoking ("something I currently have that I've always wanted") to what I considered "easier", like "what went right today".

Bookshelves are filled with gratitude books. I can easily say that this is one of my favorites. Enough so that I'm definitely going to splurge for the hard copy book for my own shelf.

Thank you to Callisto Publishers for the opportunity to preview a digital version of this edition.

So, technically, I haven't completed every single prompt in this book yet. But I have done a bunch.

Generally speaking, I am not in favor of gratitude practices, reframing, and a lot of other "therapy" things. Essentially, I don't believe I need to shift my attitude about a fucked up world or social order.

No, I DON'T need to practice reframing my bosses motivations by intentionally choosing to believe a positive interpretation of their thought processes. They're [insert shitty thing here: not paying me for my overtime, harassing me, stealing my tips, whatever.) Some situations and people are just fucked up, and framing my reaction to them as something that needs to be changed (rather than holding them accountable for their predatory behaviour) is NOT my idea of mentally healthy.

However, I have made the intentional choice to try these sorts of techniques for the last years. I have genuinely and truly tried, daily, to practice reframing, gratitude, positive affirmations etc.

To be honest, it hasn't done shit for me. Truly. I am not different, nor is my experience of the world. "Gratitude" won't stop the polar ice caps from melting, nor being exterminated species back to life, or put extirpated species back in the wild.

But actually, none of that is why I gave this book 2 stars.

Honestly, it's just frikkin boring. You cannot and should not use this book daily. This book asks essentially the same questions day after day after day. It...like...grinding to use this book.

Here are some examples:
On page 2, 4, 10, 14, 19, 22, 29, AND 30 all ask some variation of the question "something worth celebrating about me is..."

Dude, do NOT ask the same question this many times in a row? Especially not this question? After a while you just can't come up with new/different answers!

This book is probably best as a thing you do occasionally. Once a month, once a season, hell, even annually on your birthday or something. But def don't try to use it daily. It'll get real old real quick.

In January of 2024, I participated in a gratitude practice led by a community leader I follow on social media. Much to my dismay, the practice that I had refused to participate in for years actually made me feel better. Full of resentment at something that was supposed to be good for me in fact having worked, I did not continue the practice through the remainder of the year. Going into this year, however, I thought that I might want to return to it given the state of both personal and world affairs. Since I absolutely loathe journaling, I was thrilled to find this little book of daily prompts. They give me something to write about beyond “listing three things for which I am grateful.” I appreciate the inspirational but not cringe-inducing quotes, and I like that the dates are left blank in case my pathologically demand-avoidant a$$ decides to skip a day or two. Overall, this book was well worth the low price, and I’m sure, SURE that it is going to improve my abysmal attitude. Love and light, my friends. <3

I decided to randomly try this book upon seeing it on Amazon.
I wanted to try my hand at the challenge of expressing gratitude every day.

To be frank, I stopped writing gratitude entries 14 pages before the end of the book.
The motivation and interest started to die down after a few months.

I mean don't get me wrong, the quotes and passages are with good intentions. Yet it's boringly repetitive as it doesn't feel fun or worth the effort to carve in more entries. Whereas if you use a journaling app, there are a ton of unique differing features to always make it worth the work.

From the way I see it, gratitude is a quality that should be expressed naturally in its own time. Conforming to a journal just to subject yourself to forced gratitude only creates a negative connotation to embrace gratitude.

This journal should have been made with more differing passages, text, pictures, and anything to get rid of the sensation of how tedious it makes gratitude.

I struggle with gratitude a lot.

Ultimately, I'm not a happy person; I never really have been except for when I lived in Italy and when I was dating my ex, Monica. Otherwise, I'm definitely on the glass half-empty spectrum. I tend to focus on what I DON'T have and what I WANT rather than what I HAVE. So, this book is helping me focus on bettering my perspective and focusing on things I do have, not what I don't. It's a constant struggle day in, day out for me to appreciate things and "stop to smell the roses," but this book is slowly helping.

I even encouraged a student of mine to "read" it and I think(?) it's helping her, too.

Initially I really like this journal for the prompts, but I quickly realized that the prompts were repetitive. There are only so many ways to answer the same questions every week or so. I became frustrated and that is not the point.
