Found this anthology while browsing for books by Grace McGinty on Kindle Unlimited. The insta-love erotic paranormal romance Don't Flirt with Demons is a quick 50 pages that begins on page 248.
Have you ever been so angry and drunk that you don't even know what you're saying or doing, you're just screaming out slurs? Well that's exactly what happened to Elsie when she inadvertently summons a very naked fire demon to her living room. Given a few days before he must return to hell, what devilish antics will those hours behold?
Great character development for a short story. We quickly become attached to the relationship that forms between Elsie and Ukobach. By the time we are nearing the last few pages your anxiety will be high and your emotions raw.
If you haven't experience a Grace McGinty read before and loved Don't Flirt with Demons, I highly suggest taking a peek into her reverse harem worlds. There will phenomenal character development, scintillating stories, and lots and lots of steamy sex. 🖤Demons, Deadly Sins, Angels - Hell's Redemption has it all. 🖤More of a contemporary romance fan with a RH feel - Eight Seconds to Fly will leave you smitten. 🖤Vampires you say - yup she has those too, try the series which starts with Newly Undead In Dark River. 🖤And if you're more of a shifter fan head over to the Wicked Souls anthology and start Grace's story Lost and the Hunted which continues with Lost and the Hunted:Book Two.
There are a variety of stories offered in this box set!
Wings of Fire and Fury by Bec McMaster—Set in her dreki world, McMaster delivers a short and sweet package with Alina and Mircea’s novella! Passion and vengeance gave fire to this one!
Fleeting Flowers by Vivienne Savage—Bridget and Warren’s prequel has me utterly intrigued! A Phoenix and a Magician, poachers, and a setting in Texas?! December can’t get here fast enough!
Burning Secrets by Amanda Pillar—I haven’t read this author before, but the humor was an unexpected contrast to the wicked demons in her story! I loved Godric’s wacky humor (his artistic flair was quite...different) and Kara’s strong personality. Another Phoenix paired with a demon story I got a kick out of.
While the various stories I read within this anthropology were amazing, my favorite by far was the one by Meg Anne and Kel Carpenter. Probably because I read the actual story series this is a short story for but also because it fed all of my fan girl needs!!! When I say I really, really, really want this to be so successful a spin off series comes from it I’m dead serious.... hahaha dead serious... get it... the grim reaper brotherhood spin off. Okay just read the whole dang series to find the comedy in it! Also yes. Yes. Yes! This story was a fun little short story that keeps you engaged throughout it all and ends with you being a bit hot under the collar if you know what I mean!! Another amazing story by these two authors!
Those who follow my reviews know how much I appreciate an anthology. So much goodness in one place! Even better if they are dedicated to a good cause like this one; all proceeds will go to the Australian bushfire relief. Good stories, good cause. My review is specific to Rebecca Royce's and Heather Long's Ashes and Smoke.
The Knights of Lazarus have been keeping Budapest safe since they were founded, fighting demons, protecting the citizens. James, his best friend Noel, and his love Nika risk their lives daily facing the demons but Nika actually gives her life to destroy the demons. She offers her life knowing that James will help bring her back. It's what she was born to do, but now there's more to consider. This was a captivating glimpse into a true love story and selfless lives. It's just enough to draw the reader in and make them want more. Specifically more James and Nika...
Set it Ablaze A Witch Queen Short Story by May Sage
Camille 'Cee' Danvers is preparing to leave Massachusetts for Australia. As she settles for the night, a couple of ghosts rouse her for help.
The cause of the fire is a surprise to her as is the new knowledge of what she is.
Now she'll be hunted.
A quick satisfying read, with action and heat of the regular kind. I can't wait to read more of Cee's story!
Love In The Last Days Of A Doomed World by Seanan McGuire
With a huge comet hurtling to earth, surviving isn't something that will happen. This is an apocalyptic event coming. The woman telling us this story and her partner are living their lives the way they want.
There are glimpses of the past, of comic books and superheroes. There is more than one mention of Krypton.
A woman drops by the library of the child and drops equations. A puzzle to be solved before the event.
A strange and intriguing tale.
Succubus Blues A Grimm Brotherhood Short Story by Kel Carpenter & Meg Anne
Tamsin is interested in Dominick but he doesn't seem interested. Now the Fae Queen has set up a team building retreat for a few of them. Let me just say it's not your ordinary retreat.
The first thing we get to know is that Dominick really wants Tamsin, he's just afraid it's her succubus nature and not the real thing. The torture begins when they are sharing the ride to the venue. Dominick is tortured by Tamsin's singing, it's really making it hard not to touch her. The Alpha wolf in the back seat has me giggling when she's woken and cranky over the window being open.
The best is when they get pulled over and Tamsin rescues him from the situation, one that could have been sticky in many ways.
To top it all off when they arrive they find that Natasha hasn't booked enough rooms so someone has to share. Guess who that is?
Things get funnier and heat up as this story continues. So much fun!
Wings of Fire and Fury by Bec McMaster

Alina is in for more than one surprise as she heads out to deal with the monster that not only killed her parents, but also a couple of boys from her village.
Mircea reveals a truth about himself and the consequences are both startling and hot in more ways than one.
Burning Secrets A Heaven’s Heart Short Story by Amanda Pillar
Godric is a Mortis Demon, his skin is poisonous and kills anything other than another Mortis. As a member of the Halcyon Guild he metes out punishment as required. He has a particular revulsion to rapists such as this Ignis demon. A rather gory scene as he photographs and sends the image to his boss.
Kara is a phoenix with a particular aversion to the Ignis line. They have the idea that she is part of a prophecy linking their lineage. She has been held captive by them, even forced to wed but there have been no offspring from her. There are only a couple Ignis demons of the royal line left and one of them was staying in a room where she works. This is where she meets Godric.
Kara made a mistake when the new Ignis King comes to collect his brother's body, she's seen and recognized. Immediately she's blamed for the death, but she wasn't the one who did the heinous deed.Godric's next assignment comes from Hades Personal Assistant, Asha Himm. She wants the ashes of a Phoenix not the fake ones either. When he goes in search of her, aside from the roadblock her friends throw at him, she's also not at the cafe. He also knows he's not the only one who wants to kill her, the Ignis do as well. While he wants her to come back, they certainly do not.
When Godric finds Kara she is once again a prisoner of the Ignis. There's also something about her that attracts him, and he is sure the feeling is mutual.
This book while a bit on the gory side, is a fun read with some heat in more than one way and an interesting outcome.
Fireproof by Emigh Cannaday
Lyss is a hunter who excels at tracking. Prince Herbert's brother the Crown Prince has been killed by fire. As a result a team of hunters have been employed by the Prince who is also assisting in the search.
Their first night out and Lyss can't sleep, she decides to try the thermal pond she saw on their way to their campsite for the night.
An overheard conversation and an almost capture cause an interesting twist to this tale.
Action, Betrayal and Heat in more ways than one as this story unfolds.
Ashes and Smoke by Rebecca Royce & Heather Long
The Knights of Lazarus are composed of orphans, selected and trained to fight demons. They keep humans safe from that powerful evil.
James has just finished dispatching one such demon when the sky exploded with red. He had to go to her now, his Nika needs him.

Nika's love for James was as beautiful and intense as his for her. He would always be there for her, to catch her at her rebirth. She wouldn't ever take his love for granted. Especially now with the sign, the 10 Demons who attacked her causing her to resort to the flames to be reborn. The number...the beginning of the end.
A conclave to discuss the fact they need more knights, lead to the assignment being given to Nika and James. The times, however, will make this very difficult for all involved.
This is a love story for the ages, with action, fear, love, and sizzling heat in more ways than one.
Don’t Flirt with Demons by Grace McGinty
Elsie caught her boyfriend Cade with her boss. In response she quit her job and is drowning her sorrows in a bottle of vodka. In the process she is also burning up a few reminders of him, and setting off sprinklers and alarms. The most surprising though, is the demon she summons. How, she's not quite sure, but he's there, naked with swirling tattoos and horns. Then the super shows up.
Since Ukobach wouldn't be around long, Elsie decides she needs to live a little too. Uko is the demon of fireworks and fried food what could be better than a road trip to the Texas State Fair.
I laughed a lot in this book, and may have sniffled too. Keep some water handy, Uko and Elsie are definitely hot! I think I need some of the recipes for that fried stuff as well.
Fire Dancer’s Familiar A Familiar Mates Short Story by TJ Nichols
Prys is a dragon shifter, he is awake to find his mate, a fire witch. Usually this mating would cause him to become the familiar of the witch, but he only wants one thing. He needs the fire witch to wake his sister in her egg so she can hatch. He would then raise her until she finds her own mate to perpetuate their species.
Knowing his mate is near, Prys attends a show to figure out which of the fire dancers is the witch and makes a surprising discovery. He waits until the cast leaves the venue to approach.
Aaron is the fire witch, he doesn't want a mate or a familiar. However after meeting with Prys and seeing the egg he's not sure he can walk away.
A story of devotion, family and new found ties.
Flames and Flowers by Ripley Proserpina
It's Korey's birthday, she's twenty seven today. To celebrate she puts her hair up and even does her makeup. The other waitresses give her a crown to wear in the spirit of fun. After being put down and laughed at by an old male aquaintance she gets quite the surprise. A tall handsome stranger wants a date, but before she could say more than she works late, the kitchen catches fire.
Hayden as he introduces himself, suggests ice cream since she apparently won't be working anymore today. In spite of her driving herself he insists it's a date. Even if he hasn't quite told her the truth about who and what he is.
A sudden tornado changes things and the truth starts to come out. Her mother, father and Hayden have more than a little explaining to do.
I love this twist on Hades and Persephone.
Fleeting Flowers A Circle of Secrets Short Story by Vivienne Savage
Finally done with the conference he was attending Warren Westbrook stops in to visit his cousin Lana. While there he meets Bridget, a customer collecting a custom scent from Lana. Lana suggests he smell the scent but also warns him Bridget is way out of his league.
When Warren leaves the shop to venture through Central Park to his hotel, he's attacked by Ghouls. At first there's only a couple and he could have just transported away. His conscience wouldn't let him leave them to attack unsuspecting humans, so he battled on.
What Bridget is also has her being hunted. She knows her time in the big city is coming to an end. While Warren has now seen her he doesn't actually know her identity.
This is quite the beginning for Warren and Bridget. I think I've just been hooked on a new series.
Tide Together by Bam Shepherd
Princess Marin of Pacifica is painfully aware that something is wrong. The ocean temperature is rising and fish that would normally be near the coast are being seen further out. She needs to go see what's happening and help correct the problem. First she has to escape her father. Her friends and guards Bay and Loire will be in on the diversions to help her get to the mainland.
Marin is appalled by what she sees and starts using the river to extinguish flames saving and healing the koala family she finds there. She works until she passes out from exhaustion.
Flint is a smoke jumper, his assignment is to create a fire break to hopefully prevent the spread to a campsite and the homes nearby. He's more than a little startled to find someone unconscious and being protected by a koala family.
Marin wakens to see the human standing over her and instinctively attacks, she uses too much energy and once again loses consciousness. When she awakens again, Flint has made the discovery she's a mermaid but is confused because she has legs.
When he sees the bottom of her feet, he turns all professional and treats them as Marin explains why she's here.
An interesting drive leads to an even more interesting wish as this story continues.
A fun read with serious circumstances around it.
Hades’ Goddess A Gods and Monsters Short Story by Mila Young
This one starts off with some serious sizzle. Elyse and Hades are lovers and she frequently finds solace from her calling in his arms. However their interlude is interrupted by Hermes, with a message. She's been invited to a dinner on Olympus. Elyse is a new goddess, the Goddess of Sanctuary is her title. She is a decendant of Zeus, hence the goddess part. She has powers and she's also found that helping humans can sometimes be like raising a child, lots of repetition until they get it right.
Her friends and supporters include Ares, Poseidon and Heracles, and they along with Hades will escort her to the dinner. What she didn't realize was Zeus and Hera had decided she should live on Olympus, not on earth. Going so far as to begin building her a palace.
Decisions need to be made but only by Elyse. She is the one who has to decide what is right for her and the humans she's be tasked with helping. The only thing she is really worried about is losing one of her guys.
A fun read with a lot of twists and turns. I think I need the rest of this series too.
Redemption Prequel to Hell is a Harem by Kim Faulks
Redemption made a promise to a dying woman to protect her daughter. He has done just that. When he's not watching, he's driving entitled affluent humans around. As this book opens he's decided he's had enough and drives rather recklessly. Once arrived he offers the man's date some advice and walks away. They end up sharing a cab. He checks on the girl he's protecting then heads to his favorite bar. He's just ordered a drink, well a bottle and started drinking when he gets a bit of a surprise.
Lorn is more than just a little trouble and Redemption falls hard and fast. The threat to himself great as he lies to Queen Mab.
There's plenty of sizzle that has nothing to do with flames and the consequences of this relationship has me wanting more.
Set it Ablaze - This is less a novella and more a prologue to a story that comes out in 2021. Its catchy and captures attention but cannot stand on it's own. Very little information is given, we have a basic understanding of who Cee is and a singular event.
Love in the last days of a doomed world - The cadence in which the author wrote took my away from the story. It's a confusing story about time travel and the end of the world. Only the main character ever gets a name but it's never used. The plot jumps back and forth between past and present (future) with no warning. Also the character has an annoying fascination with Krypton.
Succubus Blues - * This is a epilogue to the Grimm Brotherhood series. Can be read as a stand alone. Fantastic read. Characters are whitty and fun. Has a complete storyline.
Wings of Fire and Fury - Cute story about grief and love. Wonderful universe created in such a short story. Beautifully written.
Burning Secrets - Such a fun and unique read. A quirky love story with twist. Lots of fun for such a short read.
Fireproof - Cute story about finding truth and passion.
Ashes and Smoke- A cute story in a fantasy world. However the story refers to things that are never fully explained which leads the reader to believe there is more to the story.
Don't flirt with Demons - * Laugh so hard you'll pee funny. A fun story about a woman trying to get over her ex and accidentally summons a demon, as one does. Hysterical from start to finish. As a reader of McGinty books I also love the shout out to Rella and the gang from the Hell's Redemption series.
Fire Dancer Familiar - * Oh my god so sweet. What a journey to go to find your mate, to save your sister. While this story ends abruptly the characters are so dynamite and well developed that your heart strings are already being pulled.
Flames and Flowers - * I have always loved Greek myths and the story of persephone and hades is one of my favorites. I adore this retelling and how they come together in modern day to work together.
Fleeting Flowers - * This book is a prologue to Flame and the Shadows that comes out early 2021. Oh boy does it catch the eye and you better believe I preordered that book. Not enough ro stand on it's own but enough to capture the eye and make you want to know more. Cant wait for the full release.
Tide Together - * What a fun story. This is a really cute take on a horrible disaster. Fun and quick read.
Hades' Goddess - * Based on the way this reads it sounds like this is an epilogue to another story. No background is given but it does refer to events gone by. This is definately interesting but as an epilogue of sorts I feel like I'm not getting the full value of the story. I did add Apollo is Mine to my TBR list which is supposed to be the first in this series.
Redemption - * Prequel to Hell is a Harem. It catches attention and sets up a world where supernatural and mortal live side by side. Leaves a lot of questions so the reader is jumping to purchase the series.
I haven't read all the stories in the book, just a handful, though I plan to read them all as I find time. I'll edit my review as I complete more stories. The stories I did read were good, some better than others as is always the case for anthologies, they held my attention & this anthology is for a worthy cause. I'll follow with the individual reviews for each story:
Tide Together by Bam Shepherd -this was my favorite of the anthology so far & definitely a 5 star story -Maren is a quirky little mermaid princess with a heart of gold. Flint is a Smoke Jumper who happens to jump into the right place at the right time to come across Maren! Fate definitely played into their sweet HEA! This was a great little stand-alone story that actually takes place in the middle of the Australian fires, making it have more feels.
Fleeting Flowers by Vivienne Savage -I wish there had been more to this brief short story to introduce Bridget & Warren, they are cute, & I love reading anything about a phoenix as they are so unique. I am interested in seeing this continue & to find out their backstories & if they become a couple.
Set it Ablaze by May Sage - Cee is a Hell-Witch, that was very intriguing. This is a leads into a series, and it sounds like it will include demons, a hunt for a queen, and maybe, possibly a RH. I would have liked a bit more from this, to kind of see what direction it takes.
Fire Dancer’s Familiar by TJ Nichols -interesting take on Dragons. It was a sweet little story with a sort of “happy for now” ending for the men, Prys the dragon & Aaron the fire witch, that might lead into a series at some point.
Redemption by Kim Faulks -interesting snippet for a new series. The main characters, Redemption & Lorn, have potential to be make for an interesting story. I would have liked just a little more something, to get a better feel of them or the background as I was a bit lost.
⚓⚓ONE INCREDIBLE TREAT⚓⚓ Fantastic! This impressive and immensely talented group of authors joined forces for one heartwarming desire with this sensational anthology, pouring their heart, body and mind for the selfless acts to help our neighbors in need, binding this gift together beautifully. Every story is incredibly thrilling and sincere with separate dreams, desires, purposes and destinations, each different and unique, with all the vivacity and fervor, setting the nights on fire and watching it blaze. Shenanigans, escapades and havoc run amuck, baring the sizzling touches, smouldering glances and spicy thoughts, displaying all the passion, desire and steamy expressions, blasting this gem to life seamlessly. The characters, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow, transforming into genuinely charismatic personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and graphic descriptions creating an elaborate backdrop that feels as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Fantastic job guys, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
This review is about the story within called ASHES AND SMOKE: KNIGHTS OF ST. LAZARUS by Rebecca Royce, and Heather Long.
Such a great treat. My only quibble is it ended far too quick! I can only hope they plan on expanding this universe into a new series. Nika is a Phoenix. Nope she's not from Arizona, but flares into flames and rises from rebirth once more from those same fires. She and her love James, and fellow Knights were orphaned and now fight to help save people from demons. Things are suddenly changing as what they'd long believed dusty old prophecies, might be more than just the myths they'd thought. Who will come out victorious and what do these prophecies entail? Take a peek into this interesting universe and help with rebuilding from the horrible Australian Bush fires. These authors never disappoint, and when these two fierce women join forces magic happens!
OMG! Thank you to all of the Authors who contributed to this Anthology. As a fellow Australian, the bushfires were truly devastating. With bushfire season just around the corner, and covid impacts, many Australians, wildlife carers and wildlife have had little chance to recover. 2020 has been a tough year for many reasons. There has been such a human cost, but the loss of over a billion animals is just so tragic. The anthology is truly fabulous, but also benefits such a worthwhile cause 💛
There is some strong story telling in this Anthology, but one of my favourites, is “Don’t Flirt With Demons” by Grace McGinty. It’s fun, funny and romantic. Grace is a gifted writer, so this story is no exception. Please consider buying this book as you won’t regret it and it will help some Aussies who still need assistance.
This is a nice set of stories. I enjoyed the different worlds and characters in each of the stories. Some authors are new to me and I will be sure to look for more from them. Others I know and am excited to see them in this collection. I was happy to see a story from Rebecca Royce and Heather Long included. Ashes and Smoke is a wonderful story full of love and emotions. It is an interesting take on the rising of the Phoenix. Each of the stories in this anthology brings readers into an engaging world that pulls you right in and does not let go until the end. The characters are developed nicely, and the plots move along at a good pace. This is also a nice way to get a taste of these authors and to give to a worthy cause.
This book may contain short stories but they pack a PUNCH! These stories were excellent, Hot as Hell! Demons, Dragons, Grimm Reapers, Witches, all wonderful paranormal, sexy characters in paranormal romance stories. It contains stories from my favorite authors, Meg Anne, Kel Carpenter and Bam Shepard. I’ve also been introduced to new lovely authors, Bec McMaster and Amanda Pillar to name but a few. Great book.
I love anthologies, so many new and old authors with wonderful short stories. I always find new series in anthologies as well.
I loved Amanda Pillar's story, Burning Secrets. I'd love to read more, it was an entertaining short story. Kara is a kickass character, who I'd live to read more about.
This is a review for Ashes and Smoke: Knights of Lazarus by Heather Long and Rebecca Royce. It was a short and sweet story. I wish it was longer because I would love to know what happened with the couple, the world and recruitment of fighters. It was a great story. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. The review is of my own opinion.
An amazing collection of stories. I read this book for the Meg Anne & Kel Carpenter story, two of my favorites authors. Their story was awesomely written and great plot. This was my favorite in the anthology. But afterwards I read the other stories and found each to be equally as great. I was supper happy to discover some new to me authors. And a great cause to boot.
Wow what a set I am reviewing Ashes and Smoke by Rebecca Royce and Heather long
James is a demon hunter and killer for the knights of Lazarus Nika is a Phoenix woman killing demon for the Knights of Lazarus to. This is a love story with demons on the side lol . I love james and Nika they are So cute together. Don't miss it. Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it
So many great supernatural reads. Each short story is just enough to reel you in and keep you interested. So many different characters. Suspense, sexiness, supernatural and mystery. Great anthology for a great cause.
Meg Anne and Kel Karpenter are great writters and I love their books, this one is not an exception. The whole anthology e very good and it has a very noble cause to support.
3.5 stars overall - My favorite story was the Drakon short by Bec MacMaster - It worked fine as a short, but I wouldn't have minded a little bit more time with the pair.
There was a mix of stories, many of them tie ins to the authors other works - which is a nice way to find new authors/series to read ( I added the follow on to Vivienne Savage's offering to my shelves)
The author's were donating some of the books proceeds to help with the Australian Bush fires.
Until now I have only read Rebecca Royce and Heather Long’s book in this anthology, but if the other stories are as good as theirs- you are in for a treat! I absolutely adored this one, and really hope they will continue with this story!
