I killed a fae leader and now I have to face the consequences.
Where I used to stress over college classes, I now have to worry about being a leader to fae who despise me, all the while adjusting to my new diet of human emotions.
As for Tristan—I'm still drawn to him in ways that steal my breath and leave me wanting more. There’s no denying how strong we are together or the passion we once shared.
And with a looming threat and fragile alliance between our people forcing us to work together again, it’s dangerously easy to slip into old ways. And each other’s beds.
But I have to remember that we’re on different sides now. Forbidden to be together, no matter how much I crave his touch.
If only I can get my head and heart on the same page…

slightly disappointed here if I'm honest. I was really looking forward to this as book one was such a big hit with me, unfortunately, where here Aurora should have come into her own in both personality and presence she just slowly sank while managing to spread her petulance and infantility to all around her until I just wanted to give her a swift kick where the sun don't shine and shout bloody grow the hell up, my girl. I really wouldnt have blamed Tristan for moving on as he really did deserve so much better than what he is dealt here by our girl Aurora. I didn't agree with any of Aurora's idiotic reasonings on stopping contact and communications and it seemed to me she was just burying her head in the sand. She is also not dealing with her new fae self very well and is really just existing rather than forging ahead with this exciting destiny and opportunity that others would kill for. I also felt she switched allegiances fairly swiftly and easily, I know she's the New leader and all that jazz of the Light Fae but her brand-new charges are practically strangers while her old crew and Tristan (the Dark Fae) just seemed to have almost been forgotten. I also felt the first half of this was slow and the second just imploded. I wasn't a fan of where this eventually went and considering the odds can't really see it was a viable solution to the problem at hand. Look the writing itself was excellent but I had an issue with the plot directions that were taken here. For me, It was Nikolai and Skylar that shone here and I would be up for reading their story if it was written. I also thought the ending here was very rushed and quite abrupt in nature and could have possibly been extended to maybe a further book. I am really sorry I couldn't like this more than I did especially after how much I enjoyed the first book here, as I said earlier the writing here was good this just managed to lose me along the way. I voluntary reviewed a copy of "Twisted Gift (Twisted #2)" All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
LAST BOOK OF 2018!!!!! I loved how this book ended! It was the perfect ending to Tristan and Aurora's love story. I loved how Tristan made the sacrifice he did just to be with his true love!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I’m feeling so many emotions right now. Happiness and relief, mixed with sadness and anger, and a bit of nausea thrown in for good measure. I gave Twisted Fate four stars, but I had to give Twisted Gift a solid five. It’s rare that sequels are better than the first book, but damn, this one certainly is!
My main apprehension with Twisted Fate was that there was an excessive amount of romance scenes, but not a whole lot happening in regards to the fae world, which was contrary to what the synopsis portrayed. Boy did Jessi Elliott make up for all that was lacking in Twisted Fate with her sequel.
I will admit, it started out a little slow, after all, with the way things ended in Twisted Fate, you know there had to be some adjustments, but it quickly turned around.
Twisted Gift was chock-full of action, drama, mystery, and of course romance. I see now why the romance of Twisted Fate was so dominant in the storyline because it really sets up the way Aurora feels throughout this next book.
Aurora deals with a lot, but throughout, her courage is undeniable. However, she holds on to who she really is: a smart, kind, quick witted, young woman.
I laughed... I cried... I smiled... I clutched my chest, feeling my heartbeat as my body warmed… And I literally held my breath during times of immense suspense, especially during happy scenes, because I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. And one fateful chapter, that shall remain unmentioned, forced me out of my reading spot, to heat up some tea, walk around, and take a breather.
Twisted Gift was a rollercoaster of emotions in the best way possible. I would definitely recommend the Twisted Series if you’re a fan of fantasy and romance, with a bit of action thrown in. And, if you enjoy that knotted feeling in your stomach like you’re jumping out of a plane, or more fitting, riding up an elevator to see the person you’re falling so hard for, but don’t know what to make of it.
After reading and enjoying Twisted Fate earlier in 2018, I eagerly awaited the sequel, especially considering the way that book ended. Without giving too much away, it starts two months after the end of that book; Aurora’s life has changed a lot and she’s struggling to cope. She ends up in situations she never imagined being and having to deal with those pent up emotions.
Jessi Elliot managed this sequel well; it doesn’t bog down too much on what happened in the previous book, and manages to move the story along. It ups the stakes from the last book and follows through on some hints, and I didn’t expect some of the curveballs thrown in, especially in the second half of the book. The world building is solid again and expanded on, though I wished one aspect of the fae kind was expanded, regarding their homeland. The prose is vivid and easy to read, and is paced well based on the scenes with maximum tension throughout. In addition to the romance and fantasy, there’s some action, mystery and thriller elements in this one. In my eyes, it’s better than the first book and already I see Elliot’s growth as a writer.
The entire cast of characters came alive again and I enjoyed all of them. Aurora especially as she retains her snark and fights through what’s happening to her. Their interactions are the best thing in this book, full of wit and snark and sass and actually had me laugh a few times. I actually highlighted a line in chapter 11 it was so hilarious. I revel in Aurora and Tristan interactions, and it’s even better here.
My emotions were all over the place by the time I finished, with an ending that was well done. Elliot has a bright future in writing, and I’ll be looking forward to Twisted Desire.
Sooo i finally finished this book and wow what can i say. Well first of all i want to thank Jessi for sending me it 💕
Now to the story:
Since i had problems to get into the story of the first book i was immediately into it with this one! Once again i feel in love with Aurora, Tristan and the rest of the gang.
What i loved most of the story was how Elliot wrote Aurora’s struggles while being a fae. I think it was pretty realistic and relatable and just so wonderful to see that not every person loves it. The only thing that kinda bothered me was that it was over very quickly 😞
Another point that i didn’t really liked was that the ending was kinda rushed. There where so many things happening all at once and suddenly it was over. And also i would like to read more about the war but i guess this is coming in the next book so there is hope😛 But all in once i didn’t had the feeling that all of this had hurt the reading experience because the rest of the book was well written and amazing.
Also not to forget that this is Jessi’s second book so don’t be to harsh if you find things that you don’t like✌🏻
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review It was so hard to put this book down! A big part of this book was Aurora dealing with the complications of becoming fae and working through her feelings for Tristan, and that was so good. A whole book of just that would have been interesting enough. Then intensity ramped up and everything changed. It was unpredictable and exciting and full of action and feelings. If you liked the first book, then you’ll love this one because it was the same but… more. The ending was nothing I could have ever predicted and I thought it was brilliant.
I gonna keep this quite simple. This one started out mostly good, some fun new characters, a lot of sexual tension... Even some new information about the Fae magic that was kind of cool. But then came the second half and I reaaally didn't like it. The plot took a weird turn and there was just so many of my least favorite romantic tropes thrown in there.
For the first half of this book, I quite enjoyed myself. I have a real soft spot angsty main characters and Aurora is a mess. She's fae, she's supposed to be a leader and she's broken up with Tristan. And in comes her new side kick Nik, who became kind of a favorite.
I exhale slowly. “Nikolai, I’m sorry you didn’t get laid tonight. Really, I am, but—” “You’d sleep with me, right?” “I’m not going to stroke your ego, Nikolai. I’m certain you’ve got plenty of girls in some creepy ass fan club or something that could do that for you.” He huffs out a sigh. “You’re so mean. I’d sleep with you if you needed it, but you won’t offer the same courtesy.”
And of course Aurora and Tristan are forced to work together trying to end the war and the tension is trough the roof. This line alone broke my heart.
“I fucking miss you, Rory.”
And then there´s this.
Get it together. I can control myself. Just because I want him doesn’t mean I can’t be in a room with him without thinking about fucking him on top of the bar.
But then... It all gets weird. Towards the end pretty much every turn in the plot and romance managed to agitate me to the point were I wish I could have cut away about a third of the book. I'm sure not everyone will feel the same way, but it hit all the wrong buttons for me. Just as in the first book so many things were just way to easily resolved as well. The ending really didn't make sense until I discovered that the next two books will have a different POV. In short, really not my kind of ending. But the steamy moments were just as good as in the first book, the worldbuilding got a bit better, and the plot kind of evolved a little bit but the end result was frustrating. It's a really mixed bag and my rating will stay a two stars.
While I enjoyed Twisted Gift, and sped through it, I'm conflicted on how I feel about the book as a whole. There was a lot of new potential that never went anywhere. I'm a little frustrated, to be honest. And I'm left with so many questions.
Overall, it's a pretty satisfying conclusion to Aurora and Tristan's story arc. Nikolai was a pleasant cast edition. And I think Jessi's writing improved a lot in this book. Hopefully the next two books will answer some of my burning questions.
“ What is this? Fifty Shades of Fae?” ————————————————————————- Guys, my heart is full finishing the second novel of the Twisted series. I truly never expected myself to love an Urban Fantasy Romance series, but Jessi has completely changed that. The way Jessi writes was so enchanting, I didn’t get enough of this book; especially Aurora and Tristan. I became connected to these characters and I am sad to see that their story ends with this second book. There is some amazing action/ plotting in this story and I was taken back by surprise and some tears. I had a a lot of emotion invoked from this book and I am giddy with it. The ending was slightly rushed in this one though, I found there could have been so much more length because of the events that happened. With it seeming rushed, I felt that it was like whiplash because of what was happening. Regardless, the smile on my face would show that I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for more of Jessi’s work. ————————————————————————- I thought that Aurora had faced the hardest situation ever in book one; Twisted Fate, but I was wrong. This novel went to obscene levels and made my heart beat out of my chest. She definitely had some changes from the first book, but I felt a sense of understanding towards Aurora. The relationship however between Tristan and Aurora was still so amazing, if not more amazing in this second book. It was such a heart warming end to their story. ————————————————————————- A hypnotic fantasy romance that takes your breath away with the writing, characters, and drama. ————————————————————————- I would rate this novel a 4
I really hoped that I would like this book, but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I've read other books that feature fae characters and while I don't consider myself to be an expert on them, the fae in this book didn't seem to follow the typical lore associated with them. Maybe, if I could forget the things that I know about fae, then I may have enjoyed this book a little more. Most of the characters were annoying to me and I just didn’t feel any investment in this story. I did consider giving this book a lower rating, but decided to not do that because I did finish it (although I started skimming it around the 50% mark) and it's not necessarily the author's fault that I didn't like it. I think there is another book coming out later this year, but I doubt that I will read it (unless it features Nikolai and Skylar).
Okay, I want to start by saying that sequels are notoriously difficult to write. I'm a hobbyist, unpublished writer but I know how difficult it can be to write the same world and characters as the previous book while informing the audience with some exposition (in case it's been a while since the first release) and tying up loose ends from the first book. If Twisted Fate hadn't been so outstanding, I would've given this a 3 stars but because it was lacking compared to the 1st book, I'm giving it two and a half. Spoilers ahead :)
To me, this book seemed like an after thought. Like Elliot had put all her effort into the first one and just half assed this one. I hate to say that because again, as a writer, we spend months, years and sometimes decades on writing. It's horrible to have someone say your work doesn't seem like you put all your effort into it when you've spent so much time on it. Here's why I think this: several minor characters are repurposed for this book. Nikolai was a minor antagonist in the first book (only had one scene), he was fleshed out and given more of a mentor/best friend role in this book. That's fine, seemed mostly intentional. Carter, also a minor antagonist in that same scene from book 1, was in this story. He was really pointless, just there to show that fae can turn into humans using the elixir. His brainwashing was a mootpoint because he kept saying he used to be a bad guy and I'm like yeah you tried to hurt Aurora but that's it. Did you kill a child or something drastic enough to warrant literally changing your DNA? Could've just asked her for forgiveness. Dr. Richelle is also seems like an afterthought. The book mentions that when they (Aurora and Richelle) first met at a mall, Richelle said her daughter was in a store (and therefore, couldn't meet Aurora and her brother physically at the time). I think Richelle was intentional as a red herring in twisted fate (I suspected her to be the antagonist at one point) but was brought back for the 2nd book as a whim. Or else why bother mentioning the daughter at the mall? In Twisted Gift, Aurora chalks up that mention of the daughter as a lie because Richelle was working for the Experiment and her daughter had already been dead by the time of that meeting in the mall. Hopefully this makes sense- basically, Elliot wouldn't have had to explain the daughter being at the mall but not physically present if she hadn't re used the villain on a whim. If she had written, in the first the book, that her daughter had died, no mention of how and then in the 2nd book, say that it was the fae then I'd would be like oh, she was totally setting Richelle up as an antagonist.
Anyway, let's move onto the main cast:
Aurora seemed a bit out of character in this installment. Her whole 'I'm not going to get back with Tristan because I need to deal with my life' made sense but I would've cut most of that internal dialogue in half. I understood her apprehension but it was a bit too drawn out. There were times were Aurora would feel guilty for things but not do anything to remedy the situation?? The lady at the feeding unit for example. She felt guilty after accidentally feeding on her too much but didn't try to go back and apologize later. Or there were time where I felt she should've been feeling guilty (or remorseful), like when she killed Jules and those people at the Experiment. Taking someone's life when you're not used to it, even if they're bad, should really fuck you up mentally. And if doesn't, that's a problem. I think Elliott would throw some lines about guilt in there because that's usually what heroes feel when they feel responsible for something bad happening but it didn't feel genuine because the next sentence Aurora would be over whatever caused her guilt. I thought Aurora was a bit too impulsive/rash in the first book and that was remedied here so that's a plus (mostly because the plot gave way for her to chill out a bit because not much was happening to her).
Tristan really lost his charm in this book. I loved him in the first book. He was suave, a little mysterious, but honest. He felt very 2 dimensional here. He basically waited around for Aurora, didn't really have much agency of his own. I was hoping to find out more about him, his upbringing. I mean, the guy's been alive for possibly hundreds of years and we didn't get to hear any of his life story? Then he asked her to marry him and turned human I was like, y'all barely know each other whaaaaat? He knows a lot about her, we don't know much about him so Idk, that was too fast for me. As a couple, I felt their chemistry was off unlike in the first book. And this is why sequels are hard: you lose the momentum of first meeting, first kisses and other important milestone. You have to keep writing the relationship after it's settled into a mundane routine. The first book I was squealing every scene they were together in. In this book, I was either reading with mild interest or cringe.
Here's what I thought was downright cringey: The sex scenes. My god, once they got back together, Tristan and Aurora only had sex. Barely spoke about anything else. Also I'm 19 so I'm fine with sex scenes, the one in the first book was nicely done. But this scenes left very little to the imagination. It described every single detail save the names of the actual sex acts and anatomy. It was like reading fanfic smut. Part of me was glad that it mentioned female oral sex because that's rarely mentioned in sex scenes but it was too graphic for my tastes. And it just kept going for like two chapters straight.
I want to touch on plot because this review is getting a bit winded before I share some quotes. Pacing was slow, nothing happened till 60% of the book (according to my kindle tracker, I didn't just make that number up. They'd only had discussions and filler up until that point) I kept reading to get to something. And the antagonist were bland, their motives made sense but it was meh, not interesting. I also figured out pretty quickly that they would be humans because a) it wasn't until 60% of the book that the Experiment showed up and I'm like that's not enough time to introduce a new supernatural species and wrap it up and b) Elliott isn't strong at world building so I doubt she would do that to herself. I was internally annoyed during the light/dark fae meetings because I was like 'y'all are all blaming each other for disappearances? But has anyone actually tried tracking those people or asking why they're being taken? It's probably something else doing the kidnappings'. Personally, I would've loved it if Tristan had a sibling (Don't think he does but not sure) who felt jilted because he didn't get the dark fae leader title and rose up against him to steal his throne by promising to unite the light and dark side. That way you still have Aurora, as the light leader, into the mix. A few plot holes- major one being the Jules related to Aurora. Still doesn't explain why he set up everything for her to kill him. Maybe it was just so she could use her relationship with Tristan to his advantage but he could've just taken down Tristan without her. Would be hard, but not impossible. Another one that may not be a plot hole but was confusing was Tristan and Aurora's son, Adam. If they don't have their memories, how would either of them think to name their kid Adam Maxwell. It's clearly a reference to Adam and Max who they aren't supposed to have memories of. Maybe I'm missing something.
Things that kind of bothered me: The name 'The Experiment' and even Aurora says sarcastically that it's a 'very original name' and I'm like if you, as the author are aware of that since you have a character mention how ridiculous it sounds, change it. It's not horrible, but it's not hard to come up with an actual name. Especially because they don't really experiment with most faes, they kill them. Also Nikolai and Skylar: I didn't mind them but the set up for them was so much telling. I could smell from a mile away that they would end up together. I personally like the enemies to lovers trope but they were immediately attracted to each other (based on Aurora's observations) and I was like man, i wish it was more organic. It wasn't forced but it really didn't need the additional commentary from others. Also when Max was dying, why didn't he feed off Aurora (she may have been too tired) or Richelle. It wouldn't have healed him but he probs could've made it to the hospital. Also I felt nothing for Max. I didn't know Tristan considered him a best friend- he seemed more like a body guard of sorts in the first book. I am miffed that Oliver didn't say anything at the funeral though. And is no one going to say how Oliver is in on this fae stuff? i know they told him but just a quick sentence about who told him and his reaction would've been fine. It's pretty weird to find out that your two best friends and bf are fae.
This is a total pet peeve but my god I cannot stand the nicknames in the book(s). I go by a nickname because my name is 11 letters long, nobody has time to say it. I don’t. So I’m not anti nicknames—my issue is that EVERY character has one and it’s so unnecessary. I get the Rory thing because that’s something her brother used to call her because he couldn’t say her full name. That’s cool. I’m a bit weirded out that Tristan calls her that because he’s a grown man but whatever, it’s fine. Then we have Tris and I’m like okay, they’re a couple so that’s okay to call each other by nicknames. I’m fine with Nik too because Nikolai lends itself to that shortening. But then Allison is Al, Oliver- Ollie, and Skylar is Sky. It’s so not necessary for all the main characters to have a nickname.
Finally, let's move on to some quotes. Some of them I picked them out because I don't get them or because they show signs of potentially lazy writing. The first book was much more quotable in a good way. I have this book on my kindle, don't have the page numbers so I'm just going to cite the pages and if you want to look it up on your kindle, control/find part of the sentence. If you have paperback, sorry!
"I run my hand through his well-fucked hair" (Chapter 13). Um I don't understand the meaning of this line. I'm assuming it means disheveled but why not just say that? This isn't a phrase most people say lol.
"we fight through them, leaving more bodies piled on the floor in our wake." (18) Logistically, a human and slightly drained fae should've gotten hurt at this point. There's two of them and a bunch of the others, they should've hurt a lot earlier.
"Nikolai probably loves the challenge Skylar poses—how she doesn’t fawn over him like most women." (20) Again, the commentary is unnecessary. She can wonder why they are getting close but giving reasons is like telling readers hey this is why you should ship them!! We're smart enough to make our own conclusion about why a couple should be together.
"“I’ve never seen her like this, so . . . deflated. I’m worried about her.” (20) Nikolai hasn't known her that long to warrant that statement.
“We met because of a twist of fate. It’s the reason we’re standing here together now, and it’s the best gift of all.” (24) I actually like the reference to both the book titles. It’s a good way to tie it all together.
“I don’t want to lose you, too, Tristan, but this is the only way.” “What if we altered their memory temporarily?” Allison suggests. (24).
This is just odd to me because Skylar, Nikolai, and Allison hatched this plan to take away their memories and not once did Allison bring up this theory until it was time to actually do it. If Tristan or Aurora said this it would make a bit more sense because they weren’t there for the whole brain storming process.
“With everything The Experiment did to make you human, maybe you’re susceptible to fae influence now,” Nikolai adds. (24).
Checks out but a bit too Deus ex machina for my tastes
“So, The Experiment?” “It’s gone, Aurora,” Nikolai says. “And that’s all you need to know. You don’t need the details now.” (epilogue)
She just spent two years without her past memories and she doesn’t need to know the details of what caused her to go into hiding (basically) in the first place? That’s just lazy writing to not wrap up the storyline of the book. I get the novella explains what went down but just a quick recap wouldn’t spoil things too badly. We already know they succeed because a) they wouldn’t have come back for Tristan and Aurora if they hadn’t and b) we know Skylar, Nik, and Allison survive
I know my review is long but hopefully it helped but yeah, the book is okay. I really like the first book though.
4.5/5. Twisted Fate was such an enjoyable read, but Twisted Gift stepped it up a notch for me! I love Jessi's no-nonsense prose and she does a wonderful job of describing the setting and showing us emotions. Every character is memorable in their own way, which is why it's so easy for Jessi to give us all the feels and rip our hearts out. I wished a certain emotional scene near the end had gotten drawn out a little more but other than that, this book was a flawless, devouring read. I loved the epilogue at the end and am sooo glad I only have to wait until Spring next year for Twisted Desire!!
Aurora is now the leader of the Light Fae and just graduating College. She has no idea what to do with her life because she just got transformed into a fae! She’s staying clear of Tristan who she cares deeply for because she’s not sure what made her feel that way, and wonders if she was manipulated by Jules into how she felt, magically.
Everyone is worried about Aurora because she is refusing to feed from humans and is so conflicted about being fae. As she’s now head of the Light Fae she is being forced to deal with a potential war between the two factions when the people she cares most about are part of the opposing faction.
This book is filled with plot and emotion. The characters were established in the previous book, so have space to build on and we begin to see sides of people we haven’t seen before. This book is quite angsty, but all the upset is understandable.
I really enjoyed the book and especially it’s very unexpected turn midway through the book. You won’t see it coming!
While I enjoyed this book a lot, I had some issues with the plot.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review so here it is:
The characters - I like them. Especially Nikolai and Skylar. Why those two? Idk, they just seem like fun characters to me. I enjoyed Tristan and Aurora of course. Max was great. Allison and Oliver felt somewhat like an after-thought throughout the book.
The romance aspect of this book was spot on. Which I mean, it should be, it's a romance novel. I don't read a lot of them, it's not typically my genre.
Then there's the paranormal plot. And this is where it starts to unravel for me. The Fae come from their own world. Why (and how?!?) are they so dependent upon humans to live? They cannot live without human energy but they didn't even live in the same world to begin with, so how did they make it? There was definitely room for improvement with the worldbuilding in this aspect.
Also, I'd say the last 1/4 of this felt SUPER rushed. It was like a whirlwind of crazy there toward the end and I didn't really like the direction it took. I liked the last chapter though so that's a bonus.
I get why we didn't get to see the full story, but it left this hole in the story for me. I wanted there to be more to this book. Like another 50 pages. And I don't say that often.
Overall, I did really enjoy the book, and honestly, if you don't go into it thinking too hard about the worldbuilding (let's be honest, a lot of readers don't), then I think people will absolutely love this story. I completely enjoyed the romance plot and the story as a whole.
I would recommend this to anyone who A) Read and enjoyed the first book, and B) Likes a good romance. I've already pre-ordered copies for me and my BFF.
We start off where the last book left off which I liked. I was torn about how Aurora handled her situation after gaining her faerie powers. Now she does admit her terrible choice and I commend that she acknowledge it but I still don't love how she handled it but it does create tension. Personally I felt like it took her longer than she should have and didn't love that she didn't turn to her trusted friends and family but to a near stranger. It just seemed like it dragged out and made the story pace slow down in comparison to the previous book.
That bit of Aurora's past surprised me! I really wanted to hear more about that connection but it kind of faded out which disappointed me. I thought things would tie up well there but I guess it was a minor plot bunny.
I still enjoyed the snark between Tristan and Aurora when they do get back together. Just as good as the first book. It did wreck me how much it tore Tristan apart when Aurora pushed him away. He's such a sweet guy I couldn't believe she'd give him up. Even for a little bit! haha The whole gang is back and I like how Aurora eventually becomes friends with the faeries. I do feel like for an all powerful fae I thought he'd exert his powers a bit more than we've seen but I do like Tristan but I find it hard to believe that he hadn't made any enemies in his long immortal life.
Ms. Elliott does an amazing job at making characters I don't like and make me change my mind about them. I totally felt that way for Max and Sterling. I could care less about them, in fact I was ok if they both got the axe but I appreciated how the author actually make me care about them in the end. I do have to admit I was surprised that Tristan considered Max his best friend. They seemed more like reluctant allies in the first book but I guess I could see that opposites attract.
Now 3/4 to the end of the book had me struggling to love it the way I did the first book. I wanted to like it more but I feel like the tension diffused there and it gradually plateaued. I didn't feel like the pacing of the story was on par to the first book. Part of it may be because I didn't like the way the end went. The other part may be because the main characters were no longer intimately involved. It confused me.
I mean I see why it played out and it was executed decently but it wasn't the way I had expected it to go and I feel we as a reader missed out on the huge climax. It's a good ending, just not the way I wanted it to end. It seemed too mild and felt a little cheated that I couldn't have that huge ending I thought I'd get from a fae war. The author did mention that the things we missed in the war will be told in her next book so that could be why the ending played out as it did. Nevertheless, I still felt compelled to continue reading and find out the end of the book.
Overall, this is still a fast and entertaining read! Sequels are usually rarely on par to the first book but I think Ms. Elliott still did a fantastic job in continuing the story and keeping the reader entranced until the end. I still found myself pushing through to finish reading to the end and still enjoyed the characters, world, and story. I recommend it if you enjoyed her first book because I think you'll still enjoy this book.
3.7 out of 5 for me!
(A copy was provided for an honest review. I was not compensated in any other way.)
This whole book felt incredibly rushed, and more like an outline of a series than a single book.
Spoilers ahead:
At the start, Aurora is suddenly the leader of the light fae and in the middle of trying to work with the dark fae, and Tristan as their leader, to stop the war. They have two meetings, one of just the light fae and one of both together. Nothing is resolved at this meetings, but eventually Aurora is kidnapped by the Experiment and (entirely off page) the light and dark fae resolve their differences and start acting as one.
She finds out Nikolai is her second in command. She starts off as not happy about it. Suddenly, he is in her bed at two a.m. and they are having a heart-to-heart like they are best friends.
Nikolai takes on teaching Aurora how to be a fae and how to feed on emotions. She does it once on an individual, leaves the woman unconscious and freaks out. Does it once on a crowd and it goes somewhat fine. However, she is still struggling to live as a fae. It's fine though, because three quarters of the way through the book, the Experiment does one procedure on her and turns her human.
Aurora and Tristan start the book struggling with their relationship and whether they still have one. Aurora doesn't know if they can be together. I honestly still do not get why. But then suddenly, after she gets kidnapped and then returns, they get engaged. Not only do they get engaged, but Tristan becomes human.
Their friends wipe their memories of the fae (and Aurora's connection to her parents?). Two years pass with Tristan and Aurora living married life and having a son. Suddenly, their friends show up at their door and give their memories back because the war with the Experiment is over.
It just felt like getting whiplash from reading this. It doesn't feel like any conflicts were ever actually resolved they just....ended? Or someone else off-page took care of them and resolved them and just told Aurora "it's done." There are two more books in the series, but from the descriptions it looks like this is the end of their story and it just feels really disjointed.
No better day to do a review than the day of the cover reveal, am I right?! I beta read this earlier in the year and recently received an ARC of the final product... and all I have to say is WOW! I was absolutely obsessed with the first book, Twisted Fate. I immediately fell in love with the characters and their relationships, and with that cliffhanger, I couldn’t WAIT to get my hands on Twisted Gift. This book is even hotter than the last! There was heartbreak, there was romance, there was a feisty MC... this series has it all! And now I’m finding out that it’s a TRILOGY?! The time can’t pass fast enough! I can hardly wait to see what that beautiful cover will look like next to the other two. The reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because I felt that at times in the story I was being “told” instead of “showed.” I like some things to be left to the imagination when it comes to filling in the holes. Jessi did a great job of setting everything up so by the time I was “told” how someone felt, I already knew how they felt based off of how she had already described the characters and the situation and their reactions. I also wish Aurora and some of the characters would have had a more dramatic arc. All of my questions that lingered from the first novel were answered in the second, so I’m a happy little camper right now. This book left me feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside. I was just so happy with all of the relationships that developed and all of the loose ends that were tied up, it made my heart happy!
Wow! That was an emotional rollercoaster... I'd like to think of myself as pretty "manly", but this book definitely made me cry and I'm not afraid to tell you that because wow, just wow.
So I love giving indie authors a try and heard some good things about the Twisted series. I'm usually not a huge fan of romance, which is why I actually gave Twisted Fate three stars because it felt way to over-saturated with romance, despite the description making it seem like there would be more world building surrounding the fae aspect. But I wanted to give the series a second chance by reading Twisted Gift, and I DEFINITELY do not regret it.
It's not a tearjerker for those of you thinking about what I said earlier, but there is one scene that had me so distraught that I felt like my heart was going to come out my nose. In reality though, it was actually really action packed. Contrary to the first one, Twisted Gift had some awesome world building related to the fae and I felt way more connected to the characters.
After reading this, I can see why I was recommended this series and I can definitely see myself recommending it to others. I'll probably just warn them that it doesn't get REALLY GOOD until the second one, haha. So if you're on the fence after not enjoying the first one, pick it up, because you won't regret it.
Aurora and Tristan are back in book two of the Twisted series, Twisted Gift. Aurora finally learned how she is connected with the fae and has to step up to lead the light fae. Tristan agrees they should bring light and dark fae together especially since there is something killing off fae and making it look as if they are killing each other. It has been working until Aurora is taken and this is where the twist begins.
I enjoyed book one in the series but Twisted Gift was more entertaining, the storyline more dramatic, which had me bringing out the tissues. This book had unsuspected twists as well as reveals, but you have to read the book to see what I’m talking about.
The author does a wonderful job building the romance between Aurora and Tristan. It was more developed and it was nice to see it grow. I also like that Skylar shared a different side of herself, mainly her take-charge attitude and the little glimmer of caring about Aurora. There was also a hint of a love triangle but I’m glad the author didn’t go that route. This story is great the way it is and I’m satisfied with the ending.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The author gives the perfect amount of tension in this book. I love how family and friends are still important. Everyone comes together and some character even redeem themselves. The fantasy element of the fae is almost done very nicely. I love how their goal isn’t easy to achieve, and how you can tell the main character is struggling after everything she’s been through. Every character struggles, and that makes the universe feel so real to me. This book didn’t disappoint! I’m just not sure how I felt about the ending. No spoilers, but what I will say is that the power of love is strong in this book; whether it be for friends, a significant other, or family. Nothing was just glossed over, especially not the difficult parts, and that’s what’s kept me up into the night reading this book! As well as the writing style. I’d recommend this book because it’s a perfect balance of romance, perfectly flawed characters, and a great adventure!
Ps. I felt so many emotions! This was a rollercoaster!

I really enjoyed the first book "Twisted Fate" and knew that I would jump at the opportunity to dive back into this series.
While I don't generally gravitate towards romance novels, the author does a great job, telling a compelling story and still weaving in the romance. The characters are well rounded, dynamic and full of life. Aurora is such a great main character, so I can see why so many people are drawn to this series.
Some other readers have felt that the ending felt a bit a tiny bit rushed, but I really enjoyed it, and appreciated the fast pace. The ending was great, with a plot twist you wouldn't see coming... which is only fitting given the title of the book.
Overall, this was a really great read, and while I'm not the target demographic, I still loved the complexities and the dynamics the author has created so far with the series. One of my favourite reads for 2018.

I thoroughly enjoyed Jessi's debut novel Twisted Fate and could not wait to read her next instalment in her "twisted" world.
Jessi beautifully transitions her first novel into the plot of Twisted Gift. While I'm not a big fan of romance, this novel tells a compelling sci-fi narrative with romance beautifully woven into the story.
The characters in the novel are perfectly and creatively illustrated to make the reader feel for themselves, emotionally, what the characters are feeling in the story. Twisted Gift contains many instances of love and tension that captivate the reader to continue reading for what comes next.
Collectively, I LOVED this novel. The writing style and the plot were excellently crafted which really made me fall in love with Aurora. I would strongly recommend this novel along with the rest of the Twisted series for any audience.
Jessie Elliott has continued Aurora and Tristan's story in Twisted gift, and boy has she done another amazing job with it, we find that not is all that it seems in Aurora's life, when tragedy strikes Tristan is there to help her pick up the pieces, but she is still fighting the emmense feelings she is having for him, but when you know you have found the one you want more than anything you will fight tooth and nail for them.
Fae continue to go missing or are killed and the War is still inevitable but soon it is all revealed its not just a war amoungst the fae, there are other evil factors at work, and all of the fae must unite for the common good to defeat this evil once and for all.
Tristan and Aurora story is not quite over and i cant wait for book three to read more on how this story ends. i have geuniuly been swept away with this series and by Jessi Elliott's telling of the Fae and their Human counterparts.
I wasn’t as captivated with this book as I was with the first installment of this series. That said I still really enjoyed it. There was an amazing angsty romance going on. I did miss the family dynamic I loved from the first book, but we got an amazing character and political stuff in return for it. I do feel that the ending was rushed since a lot happened in the last 30% compared with the first 70%. I still love every character and again there is a death which breaks my heart. The whole time leading up to this death I was like ‘Please don’t die, please don’t die’. And when it happened and everything it was mentions I made notes on my Kindle App saying ‘NOOOOOOOOOO!’ Again, I am very curious to see what will happen in the next installment, certainly since everything seems resolved in my eyes.

First of all, Excellent writing Jessi! I enjoyed the story thoroughly. Story starts from after 2 months of Rory turning into a Fae. Now in this book as well, there were many twists and turns which take the story totally in a different direction. And some characters even left me with different thoughts and opinions about them. Like
There after this push and pull between Tris and Rory was super interesting. So "The slow burn" continues in this book as well which is appreciated very well :-)
Some turns were not as per what I expected from the book. Mainly end of the book, But then afterwards I realise that that section is actually being captured in the next book all together which I am keen on reading as well.
Big thank you to Jessi Elliott for an ARC copy for review
I have been eagerly awaiting to see what was going to happen to Aurora and Tristan, since the end of Twisted Fate. Jessi can certainly keep a reader on their toes with anticipation. Things definitely don’t slow down in Twisted Gift.
Plenty of fae kick ass action, twists that I didn’t see coming, heartbreaking moments, and of course the romance. Tristan and Aurora have such magnetic chemistry both physically and emotionally. The ending with the epilogue had me incredibly happy, and just what I was hoping for. Any fans of paranormal romance need to read this series.
