I'm a novelist and music journalist, the author of many books set between the 1730s and 1950s in Leeds, as well as others in medieval Chesterfield and 1980s Seattle.

Above all, though, its Leeds I love, the people, the sense of the place changing with time. Yes, I write mysteries, but ultmiateoly they're books about people and their relationships, and the crime becomes a moral framework for the story.

I should be embarrassed for having read this. I should be ashamed for owning my own copy. I should be mortified to even add this to my list of books and rating it 5 stars and admitting all this. But here we are.

Hach!

A little dated as it came out in about 1996, when The X-Files was still on TV, this is still an interesting book giving an insight into David's early life and how he got into acting after a surprisingly dedicated life of study at Princeton University. I read it in an hour and a half, so it's pretty lightweight and does seem just a little sycophantic, but it was enjoyable enough.

Prior to reading I only knew of Mr. Duchovny from, of course, The X-Files, doing some movie called Evolution, and then having another strictly Cable (I think) TV Series: California (for which I have never watched nor know what the plot line/premise is or where its been). I also know how he bitched about the rain on the West Coast of British Columbia and ended up convinced Chris Carter (the Creator of The X-Files) to abandon Vancouver as the base of operations and main shooting site. I think it was on Jay Leno the whining gushed while Jay was chinning the way he usually does (and quite well I may add). But as the book...

After reading this I wasn't aware of his background: who his parents were, going to Princeton, and the story of getting started as an Actor. First quite shy around people, but after some coxing from a good friend and started in a few small way-way-off Broadway stage performances.

Written about half way the the complete Series, so I can now understand why he learned to loath the rain as I have lived in Vancouver during the cold, rainy Winters.

Nevertheless, quick read. And I did like it.

Good grief. I was searching for Peter David's X-Factor on here and came up with this, which I used to own. That is embarrassing.
