Taking to heart the idea that those who benefit from a crime ought to be investigated, here the eminent theologian David Ray Griffin sifts thru the evidence about the attacks of 9/11-- stories from the mainstream press, reports from abroad, the work of other researchers & the contradictory words of members of the Bush administration themselves--& finds that, taken together, they cast serious doubt on the official story of that tragic day.
Dr. Griffin, a retired emeritus professor of Philosophy of Religion and Theology at the Claremont School of Theology, has published over 30 books and 150 articles. His 9/11 books have been endorsed by Robert Baer, William Christison, William Sloane Coffin Jr., Richard Falke, Ray McGovern, Paul Craig Roberts and Howard Zinn.
Doesn't it strike you as strange that three (3) steel skyscrapers all collapsed in exactly the same manner (free-fall speed & into the path of most resistance all whilst exploding into a fine powder) despite sustaining radically different damage on 9-11? Do you find it odd that the WTC collapses completely defy the laws of physics unless they were carried out by controlled demolition? Did you even know WTC 7 collapsed on 9-11 despite never being hit by a plane? Ever wonder why you've never seen a single piece of evidence showing that an airplane hit the Pentagon? Have you ever actually seen a single piece of evidence that actually links Osama bin Laden to this crime?
These and dozens of other troubling questions are exposed in this meticulously researched ground-breaking work.
I guarantee there is information here you've never thought of when thinking about 9-11 and I promise you will walk away questioning everything you thought you knew about 9-11.
I won't get into the debate here, but this is definitely worth a read just for the fact that no one should blindly accept what happens in the world. If anything, you should be asking questions of the government (always a good thing) and see events in the world through more skeptical eyes.
Over the years the amount of evidence contrary to the "official version" [Report] of the Bush-Cheney administration has been piling up.
Basically, Griffin is telling us that the "conspiracy theory" [the official report] sold to us is flawed: 9/11 was much more than a plan made and executed by Al-Qaeda members. Many today believe in an "inside (the US) job". Something done to justify wars abroad.
According to Griffin many professional organizations have joined the 9/11 Truth Movement: engineers, architects, medical doctors, firemen...and politicians; it's no more a "nuts" movement, as it was called at its beginning.
Questions still remain and need to be addressed: why one aircraft was not intercepted,...was it a controlled demolition operation?....and many, many more.
Therefore it is relevant and pressing the establishment of a truly independent and impartial commission to tell us more,....of the Truth.
"Whether they took part in the attacks or not, the actions of Dick Cheney and George W. Bush after the attacks were nothing short of criminally suspicious as well.
Bush and his then VP Cheney told the commission that they would not be formally interviewed in relation to the attacks on September 11".
David Ray Griffin has written a number of books on the subject of 9/11. I have read most of them. All are well written, entertaining, and scary. If you, like I, tend to think of conspiracy theorists as nut cases, the books on 9/11 written by Griffin might cure you. Before you read any of them, take a quick peek at any YouTube video of World Trade Center Building 7 falling. Note the little plumes of smoke that just precede the drop. Note how they are each exactly one above the other floor after floor. Then note how perfectly symmetrical is the collapse itself. And fast! Without any resistance by floors below.
Then read the book. The key to understanding 9/11 is to focus on building 7. It was never hit by anything other than debris. It was a block removed from the Twin Towers. A few fires started on several floors, but these were being controlled by firemen, who are on record in their belief that the fires were under control and could be extinguished. They were ordered out several hours before the building collapsed. A reporter for CNN reported that the building had collapsed--30 minutes BEFORE it did!
Once you understand what must have happened to building 7, it makes it much easier to accept that maybe the same thing happened to the Twin towers. That makes you then wonder about the Pentagon with its lack of plane parts and bodies, and the Pennsylvania crash, with similar missing pieces.
This book is very disturbing. Do not read it if you are a martini sipping patriot who refuses to accept that our own government just might have participated in the murder of its own citizens on 9/11.
This is a book for the "true believer", people who want to find conspiracy to justify their paranoid world views. Written by a theologian (and not a good one at that) this book takes a faith based approach to engineering and facts concerning 9/11. Extremely disjointed views and misunderstandings of basic engineering and physics.
While there is a need to show just how incompetent and politically charged the Bush Administration handling of National Security and their attempts to cover this up, the strawmen which David Ray Griffen constructs actually give cover to Bush rather than drives people to investigate their failures.
This book does an excellent job in asking questions that should have been asked by our press and media folks in 2001. A very thought provoking text, well worth the read.
Griffin, a professor at Clarement Graduate School in California, has written a nuanced, well-documented summary of many of the questions surrounding 9/11. An ethicist, he carefully distinguishes between several levels of culpability as regards the main events of that day, namely, each of the two towers, the Pentagon and the aircraft downed in the Pennsylvania field. Too often, authors dealing with 9/11 have lumped everything together, proof of governmental lies (and there have been many) in one instance being extended to suggest intentional lying in all instances and even direct involvement of governmental personnel and agencies in the planning of that day. Griffin avoids such appeals to emotion, relying instead on documented facts and claims--enough to draw the certain conclusion that there was govermental deception and cover-up and to adduce a whole host of plausible hypotheses as regards the actual events at variance from "official" reports.
This is the best book on 911. It is an excellent, well researched book regarding the complicity of the US government in the 911 tragedy. This is not a book about some odd conspiracy theory.
As the book says, the government already has an official conspiracy theory that it has sold to the public via the compliant news media. That conspiracy theory has Osama Bin Laden as the head of a criminal conspiracy using planes to pancake two skyscrapers and Bldg # 7. We all know the official line but do we know that it is full of holes and contradictions? If you don't, then start here. The American people deserve the truth.
I learned what a false flag operation is and just how much was left out of the official 9/11 Commission Report and who Philip Zelikow is. I learned once again not to believe everything I am told. For years I'd known about the Project for A New American Century, but it's amazing how many of the signers of the PNAC's "Statement of Principles" had and have positions of great power in our government. My recommendation for people who thought the official 9/11 report covered all the bases is to check out the unanswered questions about 9/11 and find out who the Jersey Girls are.
A truly outstanding read, Griffin doesn't go down the conspiracy theory route and allow himself to be discredited he pools information from other researchers and combines them with stone wall facts about what transpired that tragic day. He raises some very serious questions of complicity involving Bush, Rice, Cheney, the FBI, the CIA and the Military, a very simple and exhillarating read. Highly recommended to anyone who, like me believes there is no way on earth any terrorist organisation could have pulled off something of this magnitude without inside help.
The United States has many times in the past fabricated an "incident" as a pretext for going to war, you can dig into internet to find out what have been done to go to Vietnam, Panama, WWI and WWII... I have seen the two movies of Michael Moore on 9/11 but this book is intensive with astonishing facts and fail proof arguments that the Bush administration has a link somehow to the perpetrators wether directly or indirectly. The book made me a lot more curious than before with the questions left unanswered besides It points to two or three must read books for further in depth details like Thompson's timeline or the book by Ahmad. The only thing that made it hard for me to go through this book is the organisation, the author put complements to subjects discussed in the main text, in the footnotes, it makes you go back and forth between ideas from main text to footnotes every chapter which is a little bit distracting the chronological order of the events.
A speculative look at what the Bush administration's actions related to the events of 9/11/01 would necessarily be on a scale ranging from total incompetence to total complicity. That the reality is likely anywhere on that scale is as disturbing as the logical explanations of necessary failures related to that day.
"Once when he happened in some connection to mention the war against Eurasia, she startled him by saying casually that in her opinion the war was not happening. The rocket bombs which fell daily on London were probably fired by the Government of Oceania itself, 'just to keep people frightened'. This was an idea that had literally never occurred to him."
GRIFFIN'S FIRST EXAMINATION OF THE 9/11 "REVISIONIST" POSITION
Retired theologian David Ray Griffin nowadays devotes his time to 9/11. This 2004 book was his first on the subject (see its revision, as well as 'The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions And Distortions,' etc.). This book is still interesting to contrast with his current position.
Although he had not looked at any "revisionist" accounts of 9/11 until the spring of 2003, he was intrigued by books such as The War on Freedom: How and Why America was Attacked, September 11, 2001, 9/11 - the big lie and War and Globalisation: The Truth Behind September 11, and determined to "bring together all of the major strands of this evidence." (Pg. xx) He concludes that "the revisionists have made a strong prima facie case for at least some version of the charge of official complicity." (Pg. xxiii).
He argues that "whatever did hit the Pentagon simply did not cause nearly enough destruction for the official story to be true." (Pg. 31) And since officials in October of 2000 carried out an emergency drill to prepare for the possibility that a hijacked airliner might be crashed into the Pentagon, "the claim that the possibility of such attacks had not been envisioned is clearly untrue." (Pg. 69)
He points out that although in the summer of 2001 Osama bin Laden was America's "most wanted" criminal, "bin Laden spent two weeks in the American hospital in Dubai (of the United Arab Emirates)... being treated by an American surgeon." (Pg. 76) He cites Bush's former Treasury Secretary, Paul O'Neill, as saying that "the Bush administration had from the outset planned to attack Iraq, in large part for oil." (Pg. 94)
Most interesting, however, were some intriguing questions he poses to revisionists, such as, "If officials in the Bush administration wanted a new Pearl Harbor... why would they have concocted such a complex scheme... when virtually the same effects could have been achieved with a much simpler hoax, such as an attack by chemical or biological weapons, which could have been carried out by a very small number of perpetrators?... why would they have risked exposure of the fact that the attack on the WTC was an inside job by having the buildings collapsed by explosives?... And why, in any case, would they have demolished WTC-7, thereby undermining the claim that the Twin Towers collapsed because of the impact of the airliners combined with the heat from the jet-fuel-fed fires?" (Pg. 135) He adds, "what plausible account can be given of the role of (Solicitor General) Ted Olsen? Are we to believe that upon learning that his wife had just been killed in an operation overseen by his superiors, he willingly told a lie to help them out?" (Pg. 137)
Although Griffin's later books cover much more ground, this first book is still not without interest.
Seventeen years after the fact, it is good to reread Griffin's thought provoking analysis of the investigation (or lack of investigation) in connection to the tragedy of September 11, 2001. With the recent investigations surrounding Donald Trump, it is interesting to compare the Saudis, the FBI and Rudy Giuliani then and now. But common to current affairs then and now is the people's right to know the truth.
Interesting assessment of the events surrounding 9/11. Will not get involved in the argument over conspiracy theories but would suggest that the official government account of what happened must also be considered something of a conspiracy theory in its own right. If you are interested in the subject matter, I would recommend this book as an interesting read, keep an open mind.

The first book i ever read that covered the 9/11 subject from a conspiratorial standpoint. Even if you don’t necessarily agree with all of the authors conclusions, its hard to put this book down and not feel that we were all conned.
Not a bad book, and lots of interesting information that could be verified- especially in the second half. My only issue was some do the theories early on seemed very speculative and unsubstantiated, and I also struggled finding much evidence of many of the earlier quotes in the book.
“New Pearl Harbor” was a great read. Though I have watched several documentaries and read a lot online about the many controversies surrounding 9/11, this was the first book I had ever read on the topic. Griffin raises many legitimate questions and presents convincing evidence to support a full-scale, independent investigation of what happened that day. He also presents different gradations of the complicity theory, as he calls it. These gradations scale up from non-complicity by the White House and complicity of others in government to full-scale complicity and planning aid by the White House. I liked this approach, as it indicates that there can be a problem with the official story without it implying that the Bush administration helped to plan the attacks.
Griffin focuses on the Bush administration’s reactions to the events and the many inconsistencies between the official story and the evidence that we have. On the surface, the Bush administration’s reactions were cause enough for concern. Why did Bush stay in the classroom reading to children when the country was under attack? Why wasn’t he rushed out of that room to a secure location? Bush and his staff showed no urgency that day, indicating that they believed themselves to be safe. The repeated breakdowns at every level of defense from the White House to the Defense Department to FAA were extremely troubling and simply unbelievable. I believe that the truly ludicrous theory is to believe that that many people all happened to fail miserably at once on the same day. With the billions upon billions of dollars this country spends on defense each year, I cannot believe it. Griffin also writes significantly about the U.S.’s ties with the ISI in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the bin Laden family. Taken as a whole, this speculation could very well provide the canvas on which complicity would be painted. There were plenty of links to enable coordination between different parties prior to and after the attack.
The best evidence comes in the inconsistencies surrounding the “plane” that hit the Pentagon, the Building 7 collapse, and Flight 93. If you have ever read any 9/11 Truth literature, you would likely have seen most of this evidence already. However, it is still worth reading. All evidence seems to support that Flight 93 was shot down; Griffin’s theory that it was shot down because the passengers were regaining control of the plane is certainly plausible. According to all physical evidence, Flight 77 could not have hit the Pentagon. It simply does not add up. All that the FBI needs to do is to release one video of this event to clear up all of these questions, yet they still have not done so (the two released videos do not actually show the plane). Looked at with an open mind, there is little question that Building 7’s collapse was induced by controlled demolition. Why has there been so little discussion about Building 7? These questions do not even consider the highly problematic Twin Tower collapses. Why did the 9/11 Commission ignore all of the eyewitness claims of explosions? There is so much here to make one question the official story, and taken as an aggregate it is impossible for me to believe that we were told everything that day.
If you ever have a chance, please watch the “September 11 – The New Pearl Harbor” documentary which, though not related to this book, presents much of the same evidence with more elaboration. It was also released in 2013, so it incorporated evidence that was not available to Griffin when he wrote this book. This is a fascinating topic and I believe that it is unjust to classify 9/11 Truthers as nutjobs. As the internet brings more evidence to a wider audience, I believe we will see more questions entering mainstream discourse. We cannot wait much longer to open this independent investigation; the witnesses will continue to fade away and evidence will become more difficult to obtain with age. At best, if the official story is true, I have no faith in the American government to do anything competently. If they cannot prevent a plane from hitting the Pentagon when it is well-known that the country is under attack, why should any money go toward defense? If it cannot perform this most elementary duty, what use is a standing army? I, of course, am realistic and I realize the value of a standing army (though I’d prefer it to be used for actual defense rather than war adventurism abroad); however, if the incompetence theory was actually true, how could we trust military officials and the Defense Department to competently administer a standing army? At the other end of the spectrum, at worst, the U.S. government helped to plan attacks that killed 3,000 Americans and countless more civilians in the Middle East. There really is no way for the Bush administration, military officials, NORAD officials, and the FAA to come out of this looking good, yet somehow no one lost his or her job or was disciplined for incompetence. We desperately need a deeper investigation to answer all of these questions and to help a large minority of people to have some semblance of trust in their government going forward.
"The New Pearl Harbor" by David Ray Griffin is a seminal work that critically examines the events surrounding the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States. Published in 2004, the book challenges the official narrative put forth by the U.S. government and mainstream media about the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Griffin presents a comprehensive analysis of inconsistencies, unanswered questions, and alleged anomalies in the official investigation into 9/11. He raises doubts about the explanations provided for the collapse of the Twin Towers and Building 7, suggesting that controlled demolition or other factors not addressed in the official report may have played a role.
The book delves into issues such as intelligence failures, the handling of warnings prior to the attacks, and the political consequences that followed. Griffin argues that there was a deliberate effort to suppress alternative explanations and dissenting voices, which he contends undermines the credibility of the official 9/11 Commission Report.
Griffin's writing is meticulous and well-researched, drawing upon scientific studies, eyewitness testimonies, and expert analysis to support his claims. He challenges readers to reconsider their understanding of one of the most significant events in recent history, urging them to question the narratives presented by those in positions of power.
Critics of "The New Pearl Harbor" argue that Griffin's conclusions rely on selective evidence and conspiracy theories, potentially undermining legitimate inquiries into the complexities of the 9/11 attacks. Skeptics also question the feasibility and motives behind alleged cover-ups by government agencies.
Overall, "The New Pearl Harbor" remains a controversial and provocative exploration of the events of September 11, 2001, offering an alternative perspective that continues to resonate with those skeptical of official explanations. It serves as a catalyst for ongoing debates about transparency, accountability, and the search for truth in matters of national security and public trust.
Everyone should read from high school on. The government tale, description of 9/11 was a lie from day one and has influenced our world horribly, justified two unnecessary wars and unjust prejudice against all muslims.
Conspiracy book about 9/11. Goes through a range of shady facts about 9/11 - lots of engineering-speak about how hot the WTC would have to be in order to collapse. Lots of "controlled demolition" talk.
Creates a range of possible explanations, from "The Bush Administration was negligent" all the way up to "The Bush Administration orchestrated it."
Forced me to ask a lot of interesting questions. Convinced me that the 9/11 Commission was probably bullshit. Did not convince me that the Bush Administration really had a hand in it. Would love to read a book that refuted Griffen's evidence of foul play. I feel like his facts could be unraveled in many cases.
