Plunge into an absorbing new adventure in this hilarious fantasy manga!
People are often reincarnated into fantasy worlds to answer a higher calling. In this case, that means a quest to find the perfect toilet. Behold as dragon scales are converted into toilet seats and slimes are used as moist wipes in this unique adventure about heroes who truly give a crap.
When Yotaro is transported to a fantasy world not unlike one found in RPGs, he faces the greatest foe man has ever faced - finding comfortable toilets in another world.
I don't remember how I originally became aware of this but my wife bought it for me for Christmas.
So yeah, Yotaro and his companions Gigi and Nurael are adventurers in a fantasy world. While there are adventures happening, the focus is on the weird toilets Yotaro encounters while exploring the world. Yotaro invariably reveals toilet facts from history while dropping a deuce and these facts are expanded on in two page entries at the end of most chapters.
The art is fairly good but not all that indistinguishable from the art in Made in Abyss and other modern fantasy manga. There are jokes but the book mostly feels like a PSA about how great modern toilets are and an examination of toilets throughout history.
Dungeon Toilet - not shitty. Three out of five stars.
The only reason I gave this 2 stars is because of the historical sections about toilets in human history were interesting, otherwise, I would’ve given it a 1 star. There is no plot to speak of other than the main character just finding ways to find toilets and enjoy his pooping experience while adventuring in dungeons and castles with his two other female teammates. I can certainly handle poo humor but this just got boring and repetitious. I don’t think I will continue the series as I had to really push myself to read this volume. It’s a shame as this could’ve been a very interesting and humorous concept.
At first it's really tough reading, as it's completely centered around going poop. However, the massive amount of facts and and historical accuracy is amazing. If you think of it as more of a history of toilets picture book... it's impressive. I even spent some time googling some of the random toilet types listed, which was when I realized the author/artist put MASSIVE amounts of energy into being accurate with all the tiny details both in the Manga and in the little excerpts called "toilet time".
If you have ever wondered what challenges you might encounter dropping the goblins off at the lake or where you might go to sculpt a brown troll in a quasi-medieval, fantasy world, then Dungeon Toilet may be right up your alley. Just don’t expect it to plunge greater depths than a few clever euphemisms for grunting out muddy kobolds. Unfortunately, it takes a few unnecessary ecchi turns that keep it from being all-ages potty humor.
I really wanted to enjoy this one...but it really wasn't particularly good. I enjoyed the first chapter - which was absolutely ridiculous - but found the rest of the volume tedious.
I had high hopes for this one. I was hoping for something like dr stone of toilets, but instead got a toilet obsessed fool. Then they try to act like "World War Blue" by touching on history of toilets, but do so in a questionable way. Dropping the series with this one.
I really expected to be able to relate to this more, since I didn't have indoor plumbing until I was six and spent a lot of my childhood on boats. Mostly it just suffers from have a grand total of one (1) joke and not quite pulling off the humor-plus-history thing it's going for.
