Still recovering from his two years in the void, life has been good to William. There's no wars on the horizon, everyone seems happy with the current state of affairs and the only thing on Will's mind is the upcoming wedding of his son, the crown prince. Until an attempt on his son's life signals an end to any hopes of tranquility. One of the gods from the Seven Worlds has suddenly decided that they want to get revenge on Will and perhaps Feliogustus as well. Unaware that Feliogustus now has a presence in the Seven Worlds, they think that it will be an easy fight with a provincial god in some backwater reality. A god who has no way to strike back at them. And now it's up to Will to show them just how big of a mistake they've made.
I've had a very varied life. I grew up in New York, on Long Island. I went to school to become an Engineer, then joined the Air Force. After that I worked first in Robotics, then in Aerospace as a Flight Test Engineer. I moved into the medical fields, then into more Technical markets working for a number of high tech companies where I became a Contractor. I used to own and raise big cats. I love motorcycles and old cars. I'm a pilot and former martial arts instructor. I'm a fan of the Reno Air Races. Then there's the stuff I'm not supposed to talk about, but that's another story. I've seen a lot of interesting stuff go by, met a lot of interesting, wonderful, strange, or sometimes just psychotic people. I've had the opportunity to work on some truly game changing technologies. And while I've had some very bad things happen to me in my life, I've never let it stop me. Keep smiling. -John
I can't believe it has been 2 years since the last book came out. The author focuses more on his Valens legacy books instead. I really enjoy this series. Some books are better than others but there hasn't been a book I read from this author that I haven't liked. This book follows up with the events from book 8 and deals mainly with the seven worlds. The story itself was just okay, nothing too extravagant happened but I really enjoyed reading about William and his women and learning what happened to them. I think the fact that it had been 2 years since the last book came out means the story could of been crap and I still would have enjoyed it.
I love this series more with each book Book 8, 9, and 10 (everything after Kaiju) is one continuous narrative broken into three chapters. (like LotR) This book is jam packed with awesome and there is no real ending here, not really a cliff hanger, just the director shouting "CUT!" wile everything is going one hundred mile an hour. I got to that non-ending last night around 11:00pm with the next day off work, so I just got the next book and read through the night. This is a can't put it down book.
Good story, it's a shame it's author had to make ignorant comments in his afterword. "I don't see any corpses", how fucking lucky for you, I just buried my Father after dying of Covid. I've also lost two co-workers, both of which under fifty. Fuck you and your science denial.
Great solid sequel which any fan of the series should enjoy. I really like the world building and action, but am looking forward to the next part.
I am less sold on the relationship interactions which is much more a harem then in previous parts, it feels a bit like all the women are becoming the same character. The villains are a bit cartoonish, especially in their motivations, but that is no real issue for me. I do feel smugglers are romantized too much, which is odd considering how pirates are treated - as the nasty scum they in general were. All minor points, that don't detract much from my enjoyment of the story, but they do have an impact.
Still, I am happy to finally have a new part in the Portals series and looking forward to the next part.
I really enjoy this series, the guy kicks ass and takes names like the best of them taking on other worlds Gods and seeking revenge. A bit of piracy and a lot of sex (all fade to black) sets the tone for William the “god killer” champion to build a piracy team and have several air battles. Dani the elf princess returns in this book as a major character which is good as I like that character. Don’t leave reading this book too long after the previous ones as I had some trouble remembering who everyone was.
The book was excellent. The Author’s note was infuriating.
This was a great read, very entertaining, and well written. I highly recommend it and look forward to the next in the series.
As far as the Author’s note, it absolutely infuriates me.
> Then this year there was the 'pandemic' which wasn't (I don't see any dead bodies in the streets, do you?)
Mr. Van Stry, if you’re reading this, I lost three people I cared about to the virus. I’m thankful you were spared and no one you know was affected by it.
If somehow you have found this book and haven’t seen or read the other books in the series then you my friend have lucked out. This is the 9th book of an outstanding series of outstanding books. And to make it better this book also answers one of the questions you may had from early in book 1. They need to have a 6th star that you can only give out 3 of in a month so you can vote from your favorite books. If they did I would give this 6 stars.
The epic continuation of God’s Champion who refuses to quit. Whether it’s spreading the word, protecting the flock, or being *cough* fruitful, William shows everyone how to go about it. Long time fans will live this catch-up: numerous plot threads and character events are done. You may want to re-read the climax and end of the previous book, as this one pretty much kicks right off after Will gets back home. Recommended.
I found this series a couple of years ago. It has continued to captivate and is very interesting in its God pantheon and multimeter organization. There are surprising twists and unexpected results. The characters are well thought out and relatable. I highly recommend this series and am looking forward to the next instalment.
After a huge let down from another different author, I came into this book kind of skeptical. However, that worry was unfounded and I found this book to be yet another book from John which could not be put down. My only wish, if I was granted one, would be to have these books longer to enjoy more. Eagerly awaiting the next book.
If you like sky pirates or pirates hunters you're going to love this book . Some have tried and only a very few have succeeded in writing a good pirate book hope my man get a big fleet
Im so damned happy this series is starting up again its awesome characters are well written the story has a great flow that doesnt let you put it down the mc is really well done all round amazing series well done
This was a really good story and an excellent continuation from the last book. Will is one of my favorite characters and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is the series that introduced me to this author. I always find his work exciting and well developed. If you haven't started this series start with the first one. If you haven't read them in a while, use this book as an excuse to read them again.
I have been an avid fan of the Portals series since I discovered it. This episode did not disappoint. Plenty of witty banter, jokes at Will expense, and lovely ladies he cannot resist.
I love this series! This is a great continuation of the series although I can't help but think that some of this is a rinse repeat type deal. I kind of wonder if William will ever travel to the portal that caused his family to stop traveling through the portals.
This was a decent entry in the series. I find I liked it more when the focus was smaller (on just 1 or 2 worlds) rather than the larger canvas the storyline is now playing out in. Still, decent plot and good characters.
Loved the book. It's interesting to see the main character become less bloodthirsty and actually take hostages instead of killing everyone. Can't wait for the next book. I love the series.
I enjoyed the first few books in this series and really liked the Seven Worlds setting. But the last few books in this and the Valens Legacy are just the same fodder over and over.
Love this series and was so happy to see this installment. Great characters and a plot that keeps on moving. I laughed and enjoyed all of it and can’t wait for the next one.
A unique expansion on the series. Politics, sky pirates, princesses and queens and more. This book falls more into military and politics and is enjoyable addition to the portal universe.
Who would attack this guys family!? Who would dare!? Only a complete idiot would take on the GOD SLAYER! Oh yeah we found that idiot!! Loved this book, the story was on target and the emotion really came through! Can’t wait till the next one comes out!!
I really dig thr action and adventure without graphic details of the sexual details(logan jacobs). I love the way his cadre of friends pop in and out to assist in the decimation of any dumb enough to piss him off
Excellent story telling and characters who grow and develop. Yes, I cried when one died. Yes I cheered when retribution was delivered. I did laugh and chuckle several times while reading this. Well worth the money AND Time!!
I love these books! I don't know any other way to say it, other than this, John Van Stry is an Amazing writer! He has now become one of my favorite authors. I've been devouring this series and can't put it down. I finished this one and have already downloaded the next. Easy 5 Stars!
