Once, she did what seemed impossible. Still, her happily ever after is yet to come, as a new struggle arises. A new fight for her life, freedom, and happiness has already begun. A new place, new people, and a new world - and nothing in her hands. She has to start from the very beginning. Lilian Earton has traveled a long way from a modern medic who found herself in the body of a medieval countess, lost and powerless, to a strong, independent, and powerful woman. Caught in the middle of royal conspiracies, takeovers, and intrigues, she has earned her right to proudly stand next to kings, be happy, and never be afraid of anyone.
Call it inspiration, the voice of a Muse, or plain obsession… Lina J. Potter has been dreaming up stories for as long as she can remember. She has a light-hearted approach to writing. Whenever she is not writing, you can find her practicing karate and lace-making. Nowadays, she lives in the quite town of Tambov with her husband, daughter and two cats.
I have to say I love this series. Here we have a continuation of the grand story of a woman in the middle ages not any woman mind you but someone from the 21st-century who died and found herself in another woman’s body. It’s been a great story for the past eight books in the series. For these recent books I get the feeling the author is creating opportunities to advance the story even further. To be honest if you go back several books in the series you got the feeling that things were ending. There was tight not a story head wrapped up and you just figured this is it. The author even gave a fast forward well into the future just giving us some character arcs that we might not have expected. I mean you find out that one of the daughters has a lot of children there was no need to mention that unless you were wrapping up the story. However as I said earlier now we find our self exploring new areas new kingdoms new villains. I’m interested to see how this serial killer arc plays out. I also can’t wait for the next book in the series yes there is a next book in the series you can tail and odds are it’s going to be a good one. All I can say is we want more lots more. I’m also interested in seeing the author introduce more innovations to the middle ages I think that was a staple early on in the series and I think we need more of it now. I also want to see more character growth from some of the side characters it’s great to see it now I want to see more of it. I’d like the role Bran played in this book and you can tell that story line both threads related to it if you picked up on the other one you might’ve missed it are going to get very spicy. I can’t wait to see where the author goes from here.
Although I'm obsessed with this series, this book wasn't my favorite in the bunch. It was quick and I skimmed a lot of the sections.
** small spoiler ahead** No "new" inventions or modern ideas were created by Lillian in this book except for some stiletto heels. Everything that happened (the main plot and the subplots) were only the beginning and everything is left on a cliffhanger. Count Earton still hasn't redeemed himself for me personally yet, but we'll see. I'll still continue with the story even though these books aren't well edited and aren't on KU because I love most of the characters and the world building. I can only hope that the next one is less depressing for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It has been a problem in quite a few of this series book but seemed especially bad in this one.
About half way in the book the character all go through the the same events, discussions and decisions about three times.
They will work out what happened an start to take action. Then forget everything and have a slightly different version of one of them explaining the events and them making the same decision.
It really spoiled the story and had me skimming whole sections of the book to get to new story events.
Another problem was the serial killer sub plot which was made to drag on through the whole book and still be left unresolved at the end when it was pretty obvious who the killer was pretty early on.
I would have preferred the subplot to have been removed as it is an annoyance and only there to created some future political intrigue and family disputes.
The things I liked about this series was Lillian introducing Earth's technology, products and ideas into the medieval setting and the series is unfortunately seeming to get further from that every book. It would be nice if the series would start to move back in that direction.
That said I still enjoyed the book just not as much as the previous books.
Lessons learned are never remembered, dangers noticed are never truly dealt with and discussions already had needs to be repeated ad nauseam. I'm almost not conscious while reading any more, I just want those few crumbs of story to finish at this point.
Now I read some reviews on the next instalment (The Masks of Strangers) and spoilers for that I guess:
Before this book she was strong and could deal with anything. Now she cries on every single page she's in and ends up doing something like that? After 5 books of coming to terms with the fact that she married a complete moron and her making him into a better person, she goes and does something like that? Why? I know she's pregnant but she's Lilian freakin' Earton.
Maybe one day I'll finish the last two but for now I can't make myself continue.
I was reading the first five books for the second time when I came across the next five. Whoopee! I absolutely love all of these books. My daughter's a doctor, so it wasn't hard for me to imagine her in this woman's place. These books are among the best I've ever read. It's easy to read them a second time and have them feel like new because there's so much going on in them. I easily give these books 5 stars. I would totally recommend them to anyone. Even if you're not a reader of sci-fi, I think you'd like these books. They're just great! So--this is a review for all of the books up to book 7. That's the book I'm reading at the moment.
I couldn't wait for this books release and as always Potter didn't disappoint! Lillian continues to play her star role in this book which includes a major plot twist! If you've fallen in love with Lillian and all her friends and family just like I have, then book 9 is written for you! I didn't expect any more books and now can't wait for book 10!!!
Lillian is happily ensconced with her family and work. A political attack on her and her husband by a neighboring King, totally disrupts her life and tears her from her family. It is fun to watch her put the pretty boy, trying to seduce her, in his place. The characters are well developed and compelling. Even the main villain is interesting. I like the action, humor, love, and intrigue. This is one of my favorite series. I eagerly await the next book.
I've been waiting for the next book! What a rush! Lily has done it again. Court life can be dangerous. Intrigue and danger abound. Then, to top it off, getting kidnapped by a smarmy foreigner takes the cake. A strong woman can do anything. Maybe save herself?
Love this series, but really don't care for cliffhanger endings. Otherwise, well written, a couple interesting new plot lines and our Countess is in the thick of it. Hopefully we won't have to wait long for the next installment.
Love this series. The characters are like old friends its exciting from the first word until you are left hanging. My advice is don't start this series at night if you want to sleep hope you'll enjoy this as much as I do
Great escape from the pandemic lockdown. Delightful characters, devious plots. Gives the reader hope and joy as the characters grow. Nothing is more beautiful than a woman of heart and strength.
Kind of like a Yankee in king Arthur's court. The whole series. She takes the cards she's dealt and does wonders with her modern knowledge. Its a great read
I've been enjoying this series and can hardly wait to find out what happens to Lily. I'm positive I'd never be able b to survive like she does in such hard conditions.
I can't help but wonder who the killer is. I can't help but feel the serial killer is most likely a woman rather than being. a man or is possibly Juliet's husband.
Totally love this series...a strong woman..with a brain..that can adjust to circumstances. Can't wait for book 10. Love the different aspects of history.
