Crown of Thornes

Rate this book
A modern day royal romance

He was the reason storms were named after people.

Purgatory: n. A place or state of suffering. An intricate balance of heaven and hell. Passion and pain.

My purgatory was a palace.

When my father died, I was forced to live in Thornebridge Castle- biding my time, hiding in the library and wishing I were invisible.

But there’s no hiding from fate.

There was a growing threat to the Crown in our country. Prince Sutton thought that threat was me. With his cruel words he unleashed a world of secrets that made me question everything I’d ever known. With his unpredictable touch he awakened something primal within me, within us.

The only thing I hated more than Sutton Thorne was the way his presence set my soul on fire.

I thought I’d given the Crown everything I had to give. No more suffering. In a few short months, I’d be gone. But I was about to learn what true sacrifice really meant.

“I wanted to ruin her.” Sutton

“Sutton Thorne wasn’t something you saw. He was something you experienced.” Katie

Great read, great characters, great plot!
A royally romantic journey, a puzzle looking for its lost pieces, with angst, secrets and lies, betrayal and sparkling moments... But above all, with two broken characters trying to distinguish the barriers between love and hate!!

“We were toxic. One of us was fire and the other gasoline. Together we would burn each other alive.” Katie

The author’s writing was amazing. Raw, strong and direct. The storyline had a beautiful pace, with sharp dialogues, no dragging or exaggerations.

I could feel Katie and Sutton’s attraction as well as their chemistry, but I wanted their emotional connection more developed.
There were a few scenes that left me wondering like, shouldn’t Sutton have a secretary and was reading his emails by himself, or when Katie was with Sutton and she was attacked by Keaton where were the guards??? What happened to Keaton?

Overall, it was a great, strong romance read❣️

Crown of Thornes by Delaney Foster

#Review

#NewRelease

‘I was about to leave, to tell him this was a mistake. But his fingers coaxed the black and white keys to life, weaving notes together like words in a story we both knew wouldn’t have a happy ending. “Close your eyes.” He let the keys weave more of a story. “Listen with your body. Feel how it starts off soft, peaceful, and rhythmic…” His voice was calmer now but confident enough to demand obedience. This was Sutton Thorne in his element, and he was beautiful.’

This was my first read of a Delaney Foster book and I have to say, I was completely blown away with everything that this story had on display. The characterisation was remarkable. No one is strictly lumbered under the titles of good and bad within it. The protagonists are real, flawed, emotional and so very easy to fall in love with. They are the kind of characters that you can’t wait to peel back the layers, in order to expose the many quirks, actions and reactions, feelings and thoughts that they possess. Although they may appear at first glance as something else, they are made up of a million different things - both equally profound, complicated, sensual, intelligent and fiercely independent beings. Both hero and heroine are on a level playing field within this story, strong, confident and defiant, never mind that Sutton is royalty and Katie merely a guest, working within the palace walls. I absolutely adored Katie. She never, not for one second let Sutton use his position of power to dominate her. She was fierce, brilliant, beautiful and not easy to intimidate, with a touch of vulnerability and loneliness emanating from her, it was fairly evident exactly why Sutton found himself falling for someone he had no business falling for.

‘I loved hearing the soft sounds evolve into something deeper, more powerful, then I’d bring them back down again. I controlled it. My touch controlled it. It was my drug. I brought Katie here because when she ran into me in the hall, she looked every bit as broken and strung out as I felt. I thought if I played for her, then maybe, just maybe, she would let her demons out to play with mine, that we could both be free. Even if only for a moment.’

Sutton was an arrogant, filthy mouthed, hot as Hades Prince, burdened by much. Territorial, at times disdainful and harsh, Sutton showed the most progression. Underneath all of his mockery and flirtation, he was a sweetheart, one that made very good use out of a piano. He understood Katie. He was able to see the real woman underneath all of her solitude and biting wit. Just as she was able to see the man underneath the crown and title. It was a thing of beauty, watching their extraordinary love story play out.

Crown of Thornes, is a modern day fairy tale romance, just a little darker and a little kinkier than your average fairy tale. It’s exceptionally well written, flowing with an intense, provocative and powerfully romantic storyline. The characters throughout are multifaceted creatures, dazzling and daring, full of passion and fears, wants and wishes. Author Delaney Foster has offered up readers a unique, scintillating and truly captivating story here.

If you haven't read Delaney Foster, I highly suggest that you do, and this book is one of her bests! The writing is impeccable and the plot is outstanding. We are thrust into a modern-day re-telling of Beauty and the Beast but this is no fairytale! From the start, tragedy strikes and Katie and Sutton are both left to deal with the aftermath. He's a prince and she's a commoner, but that doesn't abate their attraction to each other. Katie despises the Thorns, blaming them for her father's death, but as the plot is revealed, it's clear there are secrets and lies that need to come to light. Unfortunately, the only person who is able to reveal them to her is Sutton Thorn. Although they have undeniable sexual chemistry, the two of them challenge each other in every way possible. I loved the intense build-up of sexual tension between the two of them while also being completely intrigued by the hidden truth and the need to discover it. I highly recommend this book and the author to all romance readers! This is one you don't want to miss!

This was my first read from Delaney and what a beautiful tormented story this was. Sutton and Katie are 'enemies' because of history but they can't fight their mutual attraction. The push and pull and their chemistry is smoking hot! The anguish of Sutton having to step up as King left me with tears in my eyes.

This was a beautiful read of two souls coming together almost destined to mend the history of the past. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

New to me author and the first MF I've read for a very long time. And all I can say is WOW!! I loved everything about this.

The storyline was well paced and interesting. I didn't feel like the drama was unnecessary and I loved that I was taken by surprise on a few plot points.

Katie and Sutton are hot hot hot 🔥🔥🔥.

And I think my favourite aspect was that Katie was strong, stood up for herself, stuck to her guns and wasn't pining for Sutton before they get together - she got hers lol. And Sutton was sexy, alpha and had a really dirty mouth (my fave) but he wasn't a manwhore! It was really refreshing to me to read about two equally strong and likeable MCs especially Katie. And Delaney really conveyed how a male lead can be alpha, dominant, sexy, possessive but not creepy lol AND not have to sleep with every woman who crosses his path to reflect all of those things.

Now I'm off to check out what other books the author has. It's been so long since I've enjoyed MF or a new author. Here's to more!

Foster makes your whole body ache with this one. Once the steam between Sutton and Katie starts rolling off the pages, it doesn't stop, grabbing you within the first 10% and never letting go. By the end, my heart glowed.

I fully recommend this read for all the romance lovers out there and I'm totally willing to be one of Suttons' Queens. But I have a question: what about Keaton? Yep. That question means I need (want) more...

I don't even know where to begin. This book was pretty amazing. It's slow-burn, kind-of enemies-to-lovers, kind-of Romeo-and-Juliet-esque. The Hero was relentless and cutthroat and deliciously alpha. The heroine didn't let him get away with anything. And they both turned out to be the best thing for each other. The book was beautifully written, and one of the best books I've read this year. 5 stars

Katie is a commoner and forced to live in the castle after her father dies. Sutton is a royal prince and knows the truth about what happened with Katie's father and other lies. The couple have an attraction but also much distrust. Will the secrets and lies keep them apart? This is a modern day telling of Beauty and the Beast.

I loved Sutton and Katie so, so much! Especially Sutton! I love a male character that is a cold beast of a man but underneath has such a good heart. It makes for an excellent story when written well, and this author nailed it! This story is full of angsty, dramatic, steamy goodness. I absolutely loved it from the first page to the last.

Not the normal book for Delaney Foster but it is an amazing story. Sutton and Katie truly share an intertwined past through generations. However, a connection and chemistry will allow them to find love in this kingdom.

Pobre infeliz.

Captivated from the first page.
It wasn’t a fairy tale, but can they get the happy ending before they destroy each other.
As secrets get uncovered and lies are discovered your taken down the rabbit hole into Katie and Sutton’s lives.
Katie and Sutton have an intense hate for each other, their families are enemies. As in intense as their hate for each other is so is their chemistry.
Katie’s plan was simple, wait for her inheritance and leave, but she wasn’t ready for Sutton Thorne.
Sutton wants Katie but when Sutton finds out who Katie his he only has one plan to destroy her.
Katie and Sutton have the push pull with each other the undeniable chemistry which will have you cheering for them to get the fairy tale happy ending if they don’t kill each other first.

5 Star Royal Romance – Beauty and the Prince with a beastly heart

Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. Modern phones today make the sneak reading of my childhood so much easier, because I was compelled to open the reading app every time I had a spare 5 minutes during my day. I loved this enemies-to-lovers Royal Romance with a fairytale twist from Author Delaney Foster, and I needed to know what it was that caused the friction between the two families of Katie and Sutton.

I really loved the way that Ms Foster wrote them both. They were strong, slightly damaged by circumstances and both hiding the vulnerability that their current life circumstances had foisted onto them. Sutton recognised the look of hidden pain in Katie’s eyes that mirrored his own. Both of them were stunned at the other’s beautiful countenance, but Katie in her antagonistic view of the Royal Family treated him with less respect than he was used to, making him all the more intrigued. And while he treated her with a beastly off-hand manner at times, I found that I loved the generous heart that he kept well and truly hidden from others. He was a man of depth and honour, except where Katie was concerned, because all was fair in love and war!

And oh, holy hell, the chemistry that threatened to jump out from the page was pretty damn strong, and woe betide anyone who got in Sutton’s way when he decided that Katie was going to be his, coming or not. Another thing of note was the poetic imagery surrounding Delaney Foster’s words during some of the hotter scenes and the clever erotic play on words that she applied to the occasional well-known colloquialisms! She is one hell of a clever and witty writer with a sense of humour that invites readers to settle in and enjoy her books.

I also had to wait til damn near to the last pages of the book to find out the event that set the history of these two families in motion. I loved the ending, it was perfect and in my mind the right decision was made, but I couldn’t help but continue to think long after I put the book down, what if ... ?

Yep, this is a book that I highly recommend as great and compelling reading. If any of the aforementioned tropes are your bag, get in on this book. You’ll love it.

If the wages of sin were death, then the cost of privilege was solitude.”– Sutton
He’s so damn right that it pains me ...when you have a lot of things , you don’t have the one you really need ...that history about the sheep and the lion ? It’s a perfect example , what people with privileges need are warmth because normally everyone is so focused in “more everything “ that forgets what’s really matters .

Now about something less depressing hahaha OMG this book !!! What a ride !!! Seriously I loved Sutton , I just fell in love with him in the beginning, such a solitary soul, sad and with soooo much pressure to be a right royal , I could see how much have the throne bothered him , and how a amazing character he is because DAMN ! The way he saw things ? His POV’s were the highlights of the book .

“I never said I wasn’t fucked up. I was haunted by demons. Not the kind that woke you in the middle of the night and stole your screams. The kind that stole your soul, wrapping it in darkness and sucking you in until you were gone, and only emptiness remained. I was almost there. I was damn near empty”-Sutton

So we have Katie ...well she normal not the more amazing character ever but , an average I can say ...she was , sad and bitter but it’s ok she lost her dad and all , but in the end of the book .... she was so dull like all her fire and the way she defied him just are gone and is really boring , but the thing that really made me don’t like her !!! She keeps a secret from him that argh ! I’m really pissed .

“I always saw my dad as a hero, and yesterday I watched as Sutton looked at the king the same way. I was quickly learning that there were no heroes. There were no villains either. Just a bunch of people fighting for separate causes”– Katie

I read a teaser that said, she was the beauty and he was the beast, but this was no fairy tale. No truer statement can be made. Katarina Bellizzi was beautiful, beyond description. Sutton Thorne was a beast, bold, cold, calculating. There's even a castle and a library with so many books, but these are the only similarities to the Walt Disney movie.
This is NOT my first experience with the words of Author Delaney Foster, but Crown of Thornes would be best described as the board game "CLUE". It is an intricately woven puzzle that is not complete until the last page. Oh, you can put all the outer edges together of the puzzle and believe you know how the finished picture will look. And even with the "clues" that are dropped along the way, you still don't realize the clues you were given until the end! I've even heard of people that read the last chapter of a book before they start it. But even that wouldn't tell you the story until you've read the clues that lead up to the end!
Wonderful characters with depth and personality! Enough sizzle to make your heart race! I want to visit the island where the castle, Katarina's childhood home and even the train is. I want to stand on the coastline and feel the breeze and smell the ocean that this author described! I truly can't wait to read Crown of Thornes again!

I loved this book a modern-day Beauty and the Beast. Tragedy strikes early on and Sutton and Katie are enemies from the beginning due to fates of birth. Sutton is a prince and hates Katie with a passion but the chemistry between the two betrays them. Delaney hooks you in right from the start and keeps you turning until the very last page. Such rawness and hot attraction to each other can they move past all the secrets from the past and have a HEA. Lots of secrets and mystery and twists and turns that keep you guessing right until the very end. Even then you don't see it coming. If you love hot modern-day fairy tales with lots of hotness with two strong characters you will love this one. I received an arc for an honest review for NN Book Blog.

I am truly impressed!!! This is my first book by Delaney Foster and it definitely won't be my last. Talk about a story that pulls you in and holds you tight until the very end. Sutton to me has a story that was sad and tormented yet he manages to change his fate. Two people from two families that are long time enemies and are suppose to hate one another but instead the pull of their souls to one another is strong and one that will have steam coming from the pages. I was thoroughly engages in how this enemies turn lovers story played out and anyone who loves to read romance needs and I say NEEDS to read this book. Well done!!

Addicted. I was hands-down addicted to this story. The chemistry between Katie & Sutton was engulfed in flames. I loved the chemistry between these two so much I started the book the night before and I ended up finishing throughout work today.

Katie lost her father shortly after he saved the King's life. When he passed away the King took them in due to debts the family had. Katie resented the King and his family but her mother worked for the Queen. Everything in her world is flipped off its axis when she and Sutton the Prince start to flirt and become entangled with each other.

Sutton knows there's a lot of secrets in his castle and a few of them involve Katie's family how can he be falling for someone he's supposed to despise? Sutton and Katie are teetering on the top of the highest Ferris wheel waiting for the final drop.

Slightly angsty and full of sparks in a Cinderella like package, but this has an undercurrent of threats and secrets that could potentially bring down the Monarchy. There are some twists and turns and characters not being all they seem to be. Mostly this is about an attraction that builds into a love that consumes the characters, not in a bad way but in the best possible. It is gripping, even scorching at times and both main characters are lonely, sad and seem to be a little bit broken, two halves that need to find the other half of themselves. I got lost in reading this, not wanting to put it down, it is one that gave me intense satisfaction to read and enjoy. I loved the characters and the plot, it was intense and exciting containing everything I need to fulfil my needs in a book.

Captivating. Sexy. Page turner.

This book had me at the first chapter!
Sutton is your typical Alpha but also happens to be a prince who is destined to be king only he only has eyes for Katie and she isn’t in the royal bloodlines nor is she within the acceptable circle.
Katie is strong, self assured and sassy AF, butting heads with Sutton regardless of him being the Prince and being attracted to him.
Sutton cannot deny the pull Katie has on him and finds her personality refreshing secretly loving the way she stands up to him and not bowing to his every demand, but when his mother discovers their relationship she is less than pleased.

Katie discovers her families past is not what she knew but decides to keep that knowledge to herself for the sake of those she loves.

Amazing read!

Delaney Foster seriously girl, I have no words for how much this book consumed me. I loved everything about it. Two lost souls for different reasons - can they find comfort and love from each other?

Katie’s and her no B.S. self and Sutton and his I am LION hear me ROAR attitude. God I couldn’t get enough. Sutton and Katie are perfect for each other - different but the same in so many ways. I loved the banter between the two

Crown of Thrones was devoured in hours and I couldn’t put it down. 5 ++++ stars all the way. I highly recommend it to all!

When two opposite families worlds exist alongside one another - due to an incident. Nothing can ever be simple when Sutton and Katie are thrown together in the midst, enemies and angst rolled into these two try to do everything to avoid each other.

An unbeknown force though is pulling them together, can they resist or is the pull too much where everything could be torn apart?

The twists and turns throughout keep this modern day twisted fairytale romance addictive and wanting more. Can the secrets remain hidden or unravel around them?
