Buchanan House Love Story Collection by author Charley Descoteaux contains all six Buchanan House books plus a short bonus story. I do know these were previously published with another publishing house. But this is my first time reading the entire series. I really liked having them all here in one book. It made the journey feel like it never had to end for me. I also enjoyed How each book really blends into the next one. This is a well thought out and well written series. Stories included in this Anthology are: Buchanan House Pride Weekend Tiny House Safe House Art House Anniversary Weekend Buchanan House is the first book in the series, and I loved getting to know Eric and Nathan. Along with Tim. Eric and Nathan are best friends. They stick together through good times and bad. They are not romantically linked they are more like brothers at heart. Tim is the handyman. He is a good soul. I liked how his strength helps Eric see his worth. He did not take over for Eric he just let him be himself and loved Eric with his whole heart. I loved that. Their story is just beautiful. My other favorite from this series is: Tiny House this is the 3rd book in the Buchanan House series. I loved Nathan’s love story. He so deserved a good story and I am so glad he got it. He gets Paulie the police chief. Paulie needs Nathan as much as Nathan needs Paulie. I loved the theme of the story that beauty is more than skin deep. Such a beautiful story. One that makes you believe in true love saving the day. Overall, All the stories are beautifully done. I felt for the characters, I wanted more of them, and I loved falling in love. Which is why I read romances, to begin with. These are not overly sexualized stories. I liked that. Sometimes you just want the beautiful love story, and I felt this collection gave me that. Each story is a full length, and well rounded. I highly recommend this series to any true romantic at heart.
This page will focus on the review for the exclusive epilogue, for the other books check out the book pages.
The epilogue story was cute, but it didn’t add anything to the series. There was no real wrap-up or anything really added to the story through the extra six chapters. I still enjoyed it though.
I think the author was trying to give the last wedding some space and really go for it, but with the perspective changing every chapter it was hard to know what the real plot was. A lot of the words on page were spent rehashing the plots to the previous books which took away from some of the magic the epilogue could have had.
These six chapters were so far and above what the last two books offered that I wanted to give it five stars, but even within only six chapters there was faphobia for no reason. There was such limited space, why was there even a call for a conversation about how had and had not gained weight? It was. again, uncalled for and further made me dislike these characters. The epilogue will be standing at three and a half stars. It was one of the best pieces in the series, but even in such a short space it had issues.
After reading all the stories, the theme of found family still fell flat for me because of the constant issues I had. Why would I want to be a part of a family that is so focused on looks and often talks over the people who need help? I wanted to love this series and at times I was really into it. The stories ranged from ok to pretty good to why the hell was this written. I don’t think I will read more by this author, but I am glad that more found family books exist.
I enjoyed this collection. It's the book equivalent of chicken soup - good for the soul. Collected in one place, the Buchanan House stories are set in a B&B that offers a place of love and acceptance to the queer characters visiting or living there. These are well written stories, about finding family and happiness, and while there is some angst and drama, overall these stories are fluffy and easily read, making them a pleasant escape. Collected in one place, the books weave the different stories together, and Descoteaux handles sensitive topics adeptly. Overall, I actually liked having the collection together the read through in one go - while it is long, the short stories alone are not really fully formed, to having them within the context of the longer novels added to their enjoyment. I would absolutely recommend this series for a pleasant, easy read to escape into.
This bundle contains all the stories in the Buchanan House collection. I think this is the best way to read them. You get to truly know all the characters and see them throughout all of the stories. Some here and there but many all the way through. I especially loved that it starts before the House is even bought. By the end of the last book we see how Eric and Nathan went from dreams they had in middle school to a made family full of love. There are many bumps and twists along they way but there is also lots of love and some weddings too. The only thing that would have made it better is if Evan got his HEA too.
I truly enjoyed this set of stories. I loved the backdrop of a B&B where hurting LGBT+ people could come and heal, learn, grow, and find love. I loved how the stories intertwined and characters from other books in the set appeared in other books. There are definitely some emotions and angst in these stories as damaged and uncertain people come to know and forgive themselves and connect with others; however, they were ultimately uplifting and filled me with feelings of warmth, joy and love.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
I loved bundles because they allowed me to read all the books in a series at the same time. Even if every book in my opinion can be read as standalone, I prefer to read them in order for better enjoyment. Each amazing book featured a couple overcoming many difficult situations, self doubts, past mistakes, family drama and more to find love and got their HEA. There are many heartwarming moments, sometimes romantic or just about family and friends that caught me since the beginning and I couldn't stop until the very end. A wonderful reading!
This was an amazingly feel good read. You really should read these in order. All of the stories evolve around a B&B during Pride week. All the stories make you feel like your part of the family. The stories follow a group of friends. They are all feel good stories. Loved this set!! I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. Each individual couple and story flows into another but can be read separate. There’s so many characters and storyline to love and the way this setting is written your drawn is as part of happenings. I have only read a couple books by this author but I will be actively looking for more after reading this.
I loved the idea of the retreat and I enjoyed the first story about how they fixed up the old camp. Each story had it's ups and downs, and a sweet ending.
I feel I would have enjoyed this more if I had read each book separately, but as a whole it was too much angst for me back to back.
Also I did get a good history lesson, because of course I googled Buchanan.....
I absolutely LOVED this marvelous, sweet, grab-you-by-the-feels, charming, poignant, delightful, engaging, beautiful, enjoyable, lovely, adorable, sexy, and totally awesome collection of stories. I was hooked from the very first page, and RL and I had a huge fight every time it tried to intrude. I would recommend getting this gem of a collection for yourself.
While the collection sounded great in a blurb, the actual stories were a bit tough to read through. The characters weren't all that relatable, the romance and the conflict seemed contrived, and there wasn't anything truly memorable about the stories in this collection.
This is my first time reading anything by this author, and I enjoyed it. Each book could be read as a standalone, but you see familiar faces throughout every book. In a collection like this, why not take advantage and read them in order? The characters were a delight, and it was fun watching their journey towards love, and personal growth. There was dome angst sprinkled throughout, but that’s life. I would recommend this series. It’s perfect for a quiet afternoon, or to enjoy while traveling. However you decide, you should spend some time at Buchanan House.
