They are the best freelance space scouts in the galaxy: genetically altered dogs with enhanced senses and the gift of speech. They are Beowulf, Grendel, Mama-san, Anson, Ozma, Littlejohn, Frodo, Sinbad, and Pandora--and they will stand beside Ray Larkin, their human leader, against any danger. Anywhere. At any cost. They are the K-9 Corps.
The Mission
When Ray and his pack confront the native centaurs of an untamed world, they are trapped between a bloody alien uprising and a military intrigue that reaches to the very hart of Earthly power.
The K-9 Corps was a group of nine genetically modified dogs who, along with their leader, pet human Ray Larkin, bravely faced evil and fought for Right all across the spaceways. There were four books in the series and they're extremely fun to read, both for the action and adventure and for the touching interaction of the delightful characters. There's plenty of humor and fun references to classic science fiction and pop culture along with the derring-do. Von Gunden sent science fiction to the dogs and the results were great.
Okay, I loved these books as a child, so that may be coloring my review somewhat. I freely admit the five stars are highly subjective. But I read this book when I was ten years old and fell in love with the idea of giant, talking warrior canines. I've read them all a couple of dozen times since then and still get a kick out of them every time.
I initially read this series years ago. It's excellent world building hanging on the hook of intelligent talking dogs. As an animal lover this especially drew me.
