Our heroine in this book struggles with the above quote and it is the main barrier between a romance with the besotted hero. Exploring and coming to terms with her feelings is most of the book. This is probably why it gets lower ratings....lots of exploring but not much action . If you are looking for hot sex scenes, evil ow’s and intruding in-laws then this is not for you. This is a story of a younger man(28) who never gives up on loving the older woman(35). (Same age difference between Jimmy Fallon and his older wife)
SOME SPOILERS AHEAD: (nothing to take away from charms and feels in the book)
Hero- abandoned by biological family(more to this story later in book) had foster families, and then was adopted. His adopted parents died 3 years later and he was raised by his adopted sister. When he was 9 his sister married the heroine’s brother(he was raising sister because their parents died also) This mutual tragedy made a bond between the heroine and hero. They truly became each other’s confidante. As the hero grew older he developed feelings for heroine (she was unaware, and would have never encouraged a relationship such as that anyway) At 13 the hero even makes a remark as to them getting a place on the ocean someday and she was like “sure, someday” and then moved on with her life. When she graduated from nursing school, he worked odd jobs to buy her a gold anklet(she thought his sister in law must have paid for it) which she cherished. The hero is very busy trying to grow up to be worthy of the heroine when she marries someone else at 30. This crushes our hero. The heroine’s marriage is short lived as he dies after 3 years. She sees hero at the funeral and it gives her some uneasy feelings so she avoids hero for the next two years. Hero gets hurt, needs a full time nurse and employs the heroine. Basically, getting her alone for several weeks at his beach house condo. Although thwarted by the heroine’s marriage, this hero has staying power. This unrequited love is what makes the reader swoon over the hero.
Heroine: This book is basically the heroine’s book. We find out the feelings of the hero during their many discussions. But basically we are witnesses to the heroine’s ongoing battle with herself about her age and the loose family connection. Our 35 year old heroine is a looker! Based on the comments from other characters in the book we have a Christie Brinkley type(that woman rarely ages). Of course, she disparages her age and brings up the family connection to the hero to put off hero, but he isn’t having any of that and shuts her down every chance he gets! She finally realizes she loves the hero but decides to consult the om and her brother about it. Both of them are like, you need to go for it. The brother could tell long ago that the hero was in love with the heroine. Let’s just say if it weren’t for the tenacity of our hero these two wouldn’t had gotten together. She kept building walls, and he kept smashing them down.
Other Characters:
Heroine’s brother-raised heroine after parents died, raised hero after marrying hero’s sister, encouraged heroine to go after hero...
Niece- 18, thinks she is in love with hero, he is super uncomfortable with her and wants the heroine to take him back to his condo to nurse him...niece doesn’t cause any issues with hero and heroine
OM- professional golfer, our heroine nursed him back to health, they are in the beginning of a relationship but she breaks it off shortly after seeing hero again...he is ok with this when he realizes the h loves another and actually is a good friend to the heroine encouraging her to go after hero(unfortunately he is the source of angst for the hero, and causes hero some pain)
OW- the heroine is her own worst other woman...the heroine feels the hero should be with someone younger who can guarantee lots of children, who can keep up with the hero in all his pursuits etc....She sees other women admiring the hero but doesn’t see the many men younger and older salivating after her....based on a comment from one of the characters in the book our heroine looks like she is on the wrong side of 25instead of approaching the wrong side of 35.
HEA- it’s a nice HEA with an epilogue...destiny put these two together and they will last!

Ceritanya nurut aku, ya lumayan. Mungkin karena si cewek lebih tua dari cowoknya, dan ini bikin aku ilfill pas baca si novel. Tapi, setelah baca, ternyata menarik kok. Aku rada gregetan ama Michelle yang masih nolak Zak, meskipun tau dan mengerti apa alasan Michelle.
Yang bikin penasaran adalah Carlsbad, daerah tepi pantai California... Ini real or fiktif? Jadi pengen liat di peta...

Ceritanya nurut aku, ya lumayan. Mungkin karena si cewek lebih tua dari cowoknya, dan ini bikin aku ilfill pas baca si novel. Tapi, setelah baca, ternyata menarik kok. Aku rada gregetan ama Michelle yang masih nolak Zak, meskipun tau dan mengerti apa alasan Michelle.
