Nicely done now-then comparison. I like archival photos, but can't say I'm wild about the architecture there, for whatever reason. Seems cold. Might be different strokes for different folks. Will be visiting soon. We'll see.

Loved the before and after photos. While the book doesn’t cover all of Paris, it has many of the places we went to see.

This is a collection of photographs of Paris then and now. Each site is labeled, with a black and white photo on the left side of the open book and colorful modern photo of the site. There is also a brief description of the site and its significance as well as the changes between past and present. These descriptions are not only interesting but informative, giving readers insight into the history of Paris. Many of the photos show the before and after of Haussman's mid-19th century reconstruction of Paris and several of the photos show the the 1910 flood. My only wish was that all of the photos were taken from the same angle, but Caine explains that it isn't always possible. Fascinating and relaxing read for anyone who is interested in Paris.

I have only looked through some of the pages, but, with the dream of some day traveling to Paris, it provides some wonderful (short & sweet) insight to the monuments and landmarks that have defined the amazing city for thousands of years. In addition to great photos and interesting captions, it has "coffee table book" written all over it (figuratively speaking of course).

If you have an interest in Paris and its history, this could be a great one to check out!

Loved this book. It is a collection of side-by-side old-time and current-day photographs of Paris. Each picture has a paragraph with intriguing tidbits about history, language, or folklore about the subjects depicted and how they did or didn't change over time. Fascinating and fun.
