Unorthodox

Rate this book
Max Bennett is worse than the devil.
At least you know Satan is going to eat you alive.
With Max, he’ll make you beg for it first.
Make you think he’s doing you a favor as he rips your heart right out of your chest.

Addison London is payment for a job gone wrong.
Her life was never her own.
Born into crime and raised by monsters, she thinks she knows what she's getting into with Max.

But Max is a master at mind games.
A crime boss without conscience, he enjoys playing with his prey.

And Addison never could pass up a deal with the devil.

Their ensuing relationship is unorthodox at best, downright dangerous at worst.

Max doesn't bend.
Addison refuses to break.

And in a world like theirs, they were already doomed from the start.

I literally cannot express this enough. This is a dark book. If you are sensitive to extreme themes found in dark romance and/or dark books in general, this is probably not the book for you.

This book is very dark.

A lot of it is hard to stomach.

It's not romantic.

It's not for everyone.

If you have any triggers, back away slowly.

If not, read on!

Addison was doomed from birth. Raised by evil men with no conscience, her life is not her own. She's given as payment to someone just like them against her will, and it's easy to sympathize with her right away due to those facts alone. I felt her pain and wanted to murder everyone that caused it, including Max.

Max is a character that many readers will find hard to love in any sense of the word. He's cruel, ruthless, abusive, and feels like a straight up villain for the majority of the book. Anytime we would see a glimpse of goodness, the author would remind us who he is really is, and I fucking loved that!

K. V. Rose created a complicated, complex, and broken anti-hero who infuriated me for most of the story. I wanted to cut his balls off and spit in his face, and somehow by the end, she made me actually fucking FEEL for this monster of a man. The ending broke my fucking heart, and I cried for him. I cried for this angry, brutal, twisted human being. That's some damn good writing, y'all!

If you're a fan of dark reads with multifaceted, morally bankrupt heroes, go in with an open mind, and give this one a try! It's captivating, suspenseful, steamy, and fucked up in pretty much every way! You're going to love it!

Dark romance fans, this one's for you!

I'm going to be in the minority with this rating..But here goes..

I was highly anticipating this book because I'd read one other book by this author which I loved, so my anticipation levels were all over the place. And seeing all the hype surrounding this book, I couldn’t wait to read it.

I was promised dark and all those nitty gritty feels that come along with this genre. Now I've read a lot of Mafia reads, these used to be my kryptonite, so I was expecting a hard-ass bad boy, this is where the author should throw all her wrath down on us. A character that we hate to love. And sadly the hero just didn't do it for me. I didn’t get those warning bombs exploding from him as I was reading.

Maybe my expectations were too high 🤷‍♀️

I couldn't go any further than half way, and even that was a push, I didn't connect with the storyline or the characters, I loved the beginning of the book, like loved loved loved, but sadly it just fell flat from that point onwards, it turned messy, their interaction was stilted, it didn’t flow freely, and half the time I just cringed.

I jumped down the dark, deep rabbit hole and loved it!!!!!! So happy to have discovered this author. Unorthodox just blew my mind.

Let’s start with the warning, Don’t ignore it. For me, not much bothers me or makes me cringe. With that said, there are triggers in this book. This book may make you cringe. Once I started this book, I just couldn't put it down, such a page-turner.

I wanted to hate Max. Instead of throughout the book, my heart bleeds for him and Addison. Both broken and raised by monsters and have survived differently. Addison is used as a pawn and has never been free from her enter life, and is a true fighter. Max is raised to be ruthless and doesn't show any mercy to anyone. As his layers are peeled back, you see the boy that is still in the man. The line between villain and victim becomes blurry. They both fit well together. I will not tell you much more about them, as you need to read the book—what a cliffhanger at the end.

You can tell K.V. Rose put her heart and soul into this book, and it was very well written. She is now one of my favorite Dark mafia romance authors. I now have to wait patiently for book two, which I am sure will be worth the wait.

Yup, unpopular opinion or not, I'm not jumping on this bandwagon and saying how great 'Unorthodox' was because it wasn't. Whatsoever.

Don't get me wrong, I love dark gritty romances that may not always be suited for everyone and the author wasn't lying about the triggering topics featured in this novel: child trafficking, rape, kidnapping, abuse, murder, torture and more.

All in all, it was a bit too much even for me (who would have thought!) and I just couldn't bypass those moments to look at the 'romantic' portion of this dark romance which became less appealing after everything was said and done with our lead heroine, Addison. Plus some of the scenes left a bad taste in my mouth and those particular triggering topics made me feel too uncomfortable to continue this read so this became a big nope for me before I even reached the halfway point.

Nevertheless I gave this author a whirl and for the obvious reasons, her works (not just including this one) just aren't for me.

My first book by the author and it won’t be my last! This was a baptism by gunfire into the darkness this story delivers! Too bad I have to keep my language clean here...but this story is D.A.R.K. It is not for everyone, but for me it was a read in one sitting, do not interrupt me or I will cut you kind of read.

Addison’s father stole from the wrong man. Now he’ll pay the ultimate price with his daughter’s life. Max is not a man you cross. In his world, betrayal equals death.

Addison will be used to settle a debt and serve a purpose that is dear to Max. Max has no plans to keep her, because an iterested buyer wants her. He’ll just hold onto her until the exhange can be made and he can get what he’s really after.

This story is twisted. It is betrayal and lies, death and collateral damage, hate and desire. It’s a girl with an abusive past doing whatever she can to survive without letting him break her. It’s a man whose heart has become so black, he didn’t think there was anything left.

Two lost souls drawn to one another. They will push your boundaries (if you have any). Their connection is not sweet, it’s drowned in pain and violence. Max and Addison are each a force. She is a fighter and a survivor. He is a warrior and her protector.

Perceived bettayal will cause a break and then their pasts will tear them apart. I was left reeling when I turned the last page. Now to wait for more is slow torture. I know it will be worth it.

The author consumed me with Max’s dark world. These characters are complex and their pain and struggles bleed through the pages. I enjoyed the roller coaster of emotions she evoked even when she took us to the darkest of places. I’ll have to binge the author’s back catalog while I wait for book two.

“I could hit you back,” he says, his mouth over mine as I try desperately to breathe. To get him off of me. “Or I could just fucking kill you and put us both out of our goddamn misery.”

that line describes everything i feel. idk what happened after the half way point. IDK i was reading and nothing made sense. had so much potential but IDEK what happened.

i wanted them to just kill each other. i didn't see any romance. i usually LOVE dark shit but at least let it make sense omg. bye.

Okay so I think K.V. Rose is my dark romance unicorn. I’ve been working my way through her backlist and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m obsessed with her dark, twisted stories.

Unorthodox was not what I expected but in a good way. K.V. WARNED consistently about Max so I didn’t have hopes for a redeemable hero and he is bad. Mean, murdery, cold. But also hurt, scared, damaged. I found myself hurting SO much for him. I also found myself falling for him. He’s hot and unapologetically himself and I dig it. That might make me crazy, but whatever. I accept it.

She thinks I’m a monster. I wonder if she knows, though, that that’s exactly what I’ve always wanted to be.

I also looooove Addison. At first I was unsure. When I started the book I really felt like I wasn’t going to like her, but that quickly changed. She’s a fighter. Her whole life sucks. She can’t change the life she was born into. She doesn’t love the life she has, but she took it. She handled it with epic strength and I admire her. Because I would break.

Max Bennett acts as if the world should be grateful he exists in it, and the world, in turn, bows at his feet. I’m fucking sick of bowing at the feet of men.

While reading I was nervous, angry, sad. Repeat. But I definitely didn’t expect to feel so much heart tugging sensations while reading. I connected so well to both characters. Felt their pain, their longing, their fear and anger.

I can’t wait for book two!

TW: All of them.. seriously. This book is DARK. Dark is subjective and I have zero triggers, but this is a book that will be triggering for some, so just know that before diving in!

Dark MF romance

Unorthodox is the first book of a MF dark romance duet. If you have any triggers, it's best to skip this one because it ticks a few boxes (dubious consent, kidnapping, gore, and corrupt morals, etc.) But hey! That's why some of us like to read it.

It's written using dual POV, so we get to stare into the abyss and feel the weight of that stare all throughout the book. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but don't let that stop you because everything leading up to it makes this worth the wait. One tidbit is an overlap with one of the best dark romance series which I absolutely love by way of name dropping one of the male characters that you either hate to love, love to hate, or just flat out want more of no matter what level of depravity he brings.

Without giving away spoilers, let's just saw this book centers around two people who either the best thing to happen to each other or the worst. What is most obvious is the lengths Max is going to have to go through to find Addison.

Unorthodox is well written and has the kind of pacing and drama that keep you turning the pages... all the while, your house could be on fire and you could tune it out (thankfully that was just my daughter trying to unsuccessfully make garlic bread).

I recommend this to lovers of the dark romance genre. I am providing an honest review after receiving an ARC of this book. Do yourself a favor and add it to your TBR. It's out on 9 June 2020.

A dark and twisted read but I really enjoyed the writing and found it hard to put down.

The h is strong and the H is dark and very complicated.

I found the ending rushed and not as strong as the first 75% - hence 4 stars and not 5.

Max Bennett is no hero. He is one bad man. He is not a hero, he is a villain.
This story starts off with Max kidnapping his rivals daughter, Addison so he can sell her as a slave. Although I don’t really have any triggers in books, I was unsettled by a lot of the stuff happening in the beginning of this book. Don’t get me wrong, I loved this book but man is it unsettling.

I loved Addison. She had been through so much in her life and yet she was still strong and fierce and refused not to fight back. Man did she fight back. There were times I’d want to yell at her to stop because she was getting herself hurt.

Max? Hes hot as hell and he’s also got some very, very dark skeletons in his closet.

This book has some insanely steamy scenes! So if you love a good dark romance with a lot of steam you’ll like this. I think this book was really well written and i was captivated the entire time. The only reason I knocked off a star was I just didn’t love the story as much as KV Rose’s other books!

I loved the end of this book especially a certain someone making an appearance and I am DYING for book 2!!

I am telling you now, no matter how prepared you think you are, you are not ready for Daddy Max 😈

"Max Bennett is worse than the devil. At least you know Satan is going to eat you alive. With Max, he’ll make you beg for it first. Make you think he’s doing you a favor as he rips your heart right out of your chest."

And he did, he ripped my heart out over and over during this book, I loved him, I hated him, he's certainly an anti-hero that's for sure 😈

And Addison, you can't help but adore her, she's been through so much hurt and pain and yet she is still able to fight and see the goodness in other people. You go through every emotion alongside her 🥺

When you think you know what's going on and what's going to happen another curve ball is thrown in and you're thrown totally off kilter, there were twists and turns right up to the very end, and omg don't even get me started on that epilogue 😱

Sooo many times during this book my chills had chills and my goosebumps had goosebumps, I've said this before and I'll say it again KV is a literary genius 🔥 she fucks with our minds in the BEST way 🤯

I'm not going to lie, some of this was uncomfortable to read, I went through every emotion and I full on ugly cried 🙈

If you don't like dark reads heed the warning - this is NOT for you 🖤

I received an ARC and this is my honest review - if you like Dark and Dangerous add this to your TBR you will NOT be disappointed

"I don’t want your body, stupid girl. Everyone will have that. Pay attention, Addison. It’s your mind I want to fuck.”

Wow this was pretty dark. An all consuming crazy toxic story of kidnapping, torture, and betrayal. I absolutely fell for the broken characters here. 💔

"She thinks I’m a monster. I wonder if she knows, though, that that’s exactly what I’ve always wanted to be."

Max Bennet is a crime drug lord. He is not the hero in this story. He is the worst kind of villain. He kidnaps Addison because her father betrays him. He starts torturing her in the most brutal and painful way. Preparing to sell her to the highest bidder for human traffickers. Unbeknownst to him, she has had her fair share of past demons.

"Max can take my body, he can fuck with my head, but I won’t let him strip my soul. I won’t let him take that piece of me that believes somewhere in the world. There’s goodness."

I absolutely loved Addison, her strength and will to survive throughout the story. Unlike Max, her past never defined her. Both have been born to monsters, and both are so broken. Addison has survived a harsh upbringing and still sees goodness in everything and everyone around her. Yet Max has become his past to the point that there is no saving him. Throughout the book, he goes through so many emotions, being cold, cruel, numb, regretful, tortured, guilt driven, and ultimately, he realizes he cares for her kindness, but it's too late.

"she feels every part of me. As she takes the broken pieces of my soul and holds them in her hands. She doesn’t look away from me..in my own fucked up way, I care for her. Even if, in the end, it means absolutely nothing"

"Who do you belong to? ”Me,” he says quietly....goddamn, Addison, you’re fucking beautiful...You’re fucking perfect, he says, groaning the last word, “and you’re fucking mine.”

This ended on a cliffhanger. It contained many triggers that will make some readers uncomfortable. My first time reading for K.V. Rose, and I absolutely loved her writing style, I couldn't put it down.

Rating 4.7 stars 🌟

If you’re looking for a cute, sweet romance this is definitely not the book for you. But if you want something dark, twisted, toxic and completely unhinged then I highly recommend!

Max is all kinds of fucked up and is 100% not a good guy. He is a complicated character that had me both hating and loving him at times.

There’s so much of this book that had me heartbroken for so many different characters. And that ending had me in bits!

It was really well written and my dark heart really enjoyed it.

She thinks I’m a monster. I wonder if she knows, though, that that’s exactly what I’ve always wanted to be.

Unorthodox is a dark and twisted story of survival between two characters who are broken and messed up beyond imagination. I enjoy dark romance but this was just dark. Full stop. I love a good daddy and age gap romance but daddy Max only made one appearance, and any mention of her youth was related to abuse. The plot was the perfect amount of sick and twisted deprivety. But where was the romance? No loving or caring actions. Their interactions were strategic and manipulative. Like two players in a game. However, they shared similarities and painful pasts, connecting their soulless hearts together in a world of cruel monsters.

I wasn’t made for Max Bennett. No one is made for Max.

This is my first K. V. Rose book so I'm unfamiliar with her style of writing. The book didnt end in a traditional sense. Im left grieving and theres no happy ending in sight. I feel incomplete. Were we left at a cliffhanger; or is this the end. As this is a duet, I hope Max and Addisons story continues.

Such a beautiful fucking whore.

This book is not for the faint of heart! If you enjoy unique plots and twisted characters, you will love this. Unorthodox is not similar to any book I've come across. Dark romance lovers will eat this up.

Triggered content: human trafficking, rape, statutory rape, abuse, kidnap, torture, murder.

No HEA.

Okay... Going to be honest in my review... It was everything that triggered me and at the same time I loved and was here for. It was dark, but it also showed very complicated characters. Throughout the whole book I just wanted to hug Addison. I mean that girl has been through a lot. As much as I disliked Max while also crushing on him. I feel like he is the most complicated character that I have ever read. While both characters made me want to strangle them it was an amazing read. While yes, it did trigger me in some ways. It also made me want to keep reading. Even though the story is a bit unorthodox (ha get what I did there) its also very intriguing and pulled me right in from the start. I am impatiently waiting for the next book to know what happens.

***4,5 "He's still in there!!!" stars***

NOW AVAILABLE

"Who seeks solace with their demons?
Who craves a gentle touch from the same hands that hurt them?"

"Sick love" indeed, even though i can't really say that i saw any form of love in here!!!
Gawd, this book was sooo dark and twisted and I really loved it in a weird sense!!!
Max and Addison got under my skin and i'm waiting impatiently for the next part of their story, especially after the events at the end of this book!!!!
OMG!!!! This was my first book by K.V. Rose, but her writing captivated me and i'm craving for more!!!

"You do understand though, Max, it's highly... unorthodox to put your hands on things that don't belong to you?"

Well, honestly, i don't really know what to say about this book...
This story was soooo fucked up. So. Much. And i was always stressed over what will happen to poor Addison...
That girl had gone through too many shits in her eighteen years and Max Bennett has in store so many ugly things for her... My heart was aching for her and what she would have to endure next...
I was praying for a miracle, that i wasn't seeing coming soon!!!

"Someone will come for me. But if they don't?

"I'd rather live the nightmare than be helpless against it. Living is surviving."

Max didn't earn my sympathy and trust until around 70% of the book...
Honestly, i couldn't understand him... He was so cold and detached, so cruel toward Addison and yes, at some point I understood some of the reasons why he was like that, but still... He did too many bad things...
Yep, sometimes Addison was slipping under his thick icy walls, but he wasn't letting himself feeling and honestly, my heart was breaking for him... For many reasons that i can not really tell you...

"No matter how much I admire her stupid displays of bravery, she's a pawn. I don't want to keep her. She's payment for something I need, and the only thing I could give a fuck about is getting what I made a deal for."

This was a dark and twisted story, full of intense moments that would steal a part of your soul...
Both our heroes are too troubled and they had to face too many horrors against them in their lives...
Even though they don't know it, that sick part of them is connecting with the other's and when they are together, everything around them is fading away...
But will this sick love can grow into something more, something good???
And what they will have to do in order to find a slice of heaven in the hell that they are living???

"If this isn't love, if this isn't something like it, then what is it, Max?"

"Two broken souls, both fucked from the beginning. For a moment there, I thought that could make us something. That could make us a force. Together."

Well, I loved this couple very much, even though i couldn't fully understand them!!!
I loved Addison and her strength and defiance... I loved the way that she was trying to hold on to hope...
I liked Max, even though i wanted to kill him many times, and i can really love him if he will stop being so stubborn and full of mistrust. I can understand where he is coming from, but he was many times unreasonable to Addison and i really didn't like it.
But i can not deny that there was something like affection between them and the chemistry was off the charts.

"The way he's lighting my body on fire when I should feel nothing but coldness, and the way his words slipping past my defenses... I realize with no small amount of horror that I want him."

"Numbness. Nothing. That's all I've really been and I hate that I can't stay there. That when she's around, when her bravery and her goodness come through... I. Want. More."

The crimes in here were too many and disturbing in a way, so if you are sensitive to certain matters, i would advice you to stay away from this book!
But if you love dark and twisted stories, be my guest and dive in it. You're gonna love it and you would be craving for more!!!! As i do!!

"Someday, everyone has to learn there are monsters in the world."

A little to dark dark for me.

I’ve read dark, but this one was like too dark dark too crazy and for me when she uttered “Daddy” nope that kind of put off the whole of the book for me and it’s why I rated this 3 stars. Am I going to read the second book you bet I am doesn’t mean I didn’t like it, I’m just curious about Addison.

Addison just wants to be free. Live her life without her demons and monsters following her. Being the daughter of a mobster she sadly will never be free. Her father made mistakes, and now she has to pay for it. Coming to Max, she's thrown in a hole new hell. But she survived everything else life throw at her so she can survive this to. Max always tries to outrun his demons. If you don't think about them they don't find you. Sadly it's not true. His childhood was one Fucking mess. His parents did things no child should ever experience. All he wanted to do was save his brother. When Addison came she broke something in the walls he build around himself. Slowly she keeps getting closer until she's standing right in front of him. But she also throws in a lot of doubt. Max doesn’t know who to trust anymore. Everyone wants to take Addy from him. So he does what he does best, he pushes her away. When running away Addy thinks she is going to her brother who will save her. But the truth is a whole lot worse. Did she escape one devil only to trade him for a monster from her past? Will Max be able to save her? Will he bring hell to those who took Addy from him

I just finished the book and wow. My mind is just blown. My heart is feeling all these feelings for Max right now. Damn. And Addison i feel so bad for her. When a story let you feel all these feelings like they are your own. You know it's a great story.I hope Max really fuckes up her uncle good. And kills him very very slowly and painfully. The story was beautiful to read. The hate/love romance was so strong. They even hated them selfs. But slowly they start to feel things for each other and neither know how to handle this. It not a book for everyone, like the warning says it very very dark.

I read four (YES, FOUR) different versions of this book (one of the very first drafts to the last draft) and EVERY ONE got better than the the previous version.

Unorthodox is FULL of triggers so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be AWARE of that. If you can’t handle DARK DARK don’t read it. Max isn’t your white knight. Addison isn’t a princess. This does NOT have a HEA (yet).

Maximus, Max, Bennett is a crime lord that dabbles in EVERYTHING. When a deal goes south Christopher London has to pay up. What better way to do that than his daughter, Addison? Addison is unfortunately the collateral damage in this cross fire. She has to endure things NO ONE should ever have to to survive; and she says it best “Living is surviving.” Max uses Addison to get something of his back, well someONE.

But will Addison help Max face his demons? Or will Max continue to use Addison for his personal gain? Find out June 9th! If you can handle dark, gritty, and an amazing book; PREORDER NOW and add to your TBR.

Oh wow 5 star's just does not do this book justice. This book had me on the edge of my seat as I kept turning one page after another. This story will take you on one whirlwind of a ride wondering when you'll be able to get off...it's that intense, but holy hell did I love it....I couldn't stop if I had wanted to.
Addison is a girl who's life hasn't been champagne and roses...no she comes from a family where violence, blood, death go hand in hand she's always tried to find the good in people, but after she is taken by Max she thinks he's the Devil incarnate, but he makes her feel thing's that she knows is wrong.
Max is one dangerous sob he's someone you never want to cross, because you never know if you'll be alive the next day. He's taken Addison for a debt her father owes him, but there's a secret Max is keeping for the real reason he's taken Addison. She's soon getting under his skin and he knows he can't damage the merchandise or the deal falls through he has to remind himself, so he doesn't kill her.
This was one spunky girl she never stopped trying to get away from him no matter how bad it got for her she challenges him on everything. I kept thinking girl you need to stop before you get killed. This book has triggers all over the place so heed the warning if you have triggers, but if you love dark intense reads and have no triggers you definitely need to one click this book.

As I sit here and think of the words to describe this book I find myself speechless. Have you this author before? Are you reading this review right now? Fully? For anyone who has read KV Rose's work before you won't even bother with the reviews because you just consume her books as fast as humanly possible and don't stop to ask questions, or eat, much less read any reviews. KV is one of a kind author who doesn't just write a book but transport your mind and emotions into her a world never seen before. She hijacks your body and takes you on an epic journey that is dark, twisted and so all-consuming you are left questioning everything you ever read before her. Max is a monster, and he is an unapologetic monster with more emotional baggage than one person can handle. He is savage and ruthless and broken inside. What more can a reader ask for? Addison is a lot like Max in that way and these two bond over their broken past, unfortunate circumstances, and a whole slew of lies and secrets between them. This book broke my heart, screwed my mind, and satisfied me in a way that only a KV book can do. Not only should you stop reading this review and read this book but you should read EVERY. SINGLE. one of her books..

There were times when this story ever so slightly dragged, and as difficult as many of the topics discussed here were to imagine (especially in relation to Max's brother--that broke my heart), I feel like the author still held back a lot of the time in the interactions between Max and Addison. They were far from tame, but they could've been taken further still considering the hellish world in which these two live.

Nonetheless, I really loved Max's character, and there's a lot of promise to this book--out of all the "dark" romance stories I've read, this one has pushed closest to the edge.

Here's hoping for that second book releasing, because I need to see how this duology closes after that cliffhanger.

*deep breath* THIS BOOK WAS INSANE…..

disgusting, gut wrenching, sad, uncomfortable, and I ATE IT UP. don’t ask me why, i simply don’t know the answer, but k.v. rose just has me in a choke hold with every single deranged/sociopathic hero she writes.

this is probably the darkest dark “romance” i’ve ever read and i’ve read some dark shit. there were times that i genuinely felt sick to my stomach (i don’t take well to incest-y…. anything!)

gotta say, addison did get on my nerves with all the fighting and uh, defiance(?) not because she wasn’t in the right for fighting and being defiant, but because every time it got her the same results (being choked tf out). like girl, switch it up a little, play it safe, give yourself a chance. other than that she was pretty mediocre, much like most heroines in dark romance books. i still kinda liked her.

max bennett, have my children. he was really awful but getting all his background and reasoning kinda made his callousness make sense. he was hot, i don’t care. the spit kink in me was screaming throughout this book. tmi? IM NOT SORRY! also, his breading kink was just so

the daddy kink wasn’t my thing but i got past it. oh and all the “baby girls” really made me think of that god awful movie/porno. what was it called? 365 shades of grey? anyways, the whole dynamic addison and max had was really messed up but it kept me interested. i feel like they’re both screwy in the head from their childhoods and that’s why they just….. worked? in a way. i don’t know anymore, this book really screwed with me.

all that being said, i really did enjoy this book and will now be pleading with mommy k.v. to release the next book. also the next ecstasy book too, while we’re bargaining????? this is me begging.

I’ve been sitting on this review for awhile now, because honestly, I wasn’t sure that I was going to have the right words to put forth.
Rose is rapidly taking over the dark romance genre with her legion of antiheroes and the survivor women.
Daddy Max is not a nice guy. In fact, it’s questionable as to whether he has redeeming qualities that women seek, but there’s something about his depravity that lures us in and holds us tight.
And Addison. Is she a nice girl, corrupted by circumstance? Is there more lurking? I mean. I’m not gonna be the one to answer these questions.
Shining point of the story for me was, of course the cameo by my main man.
But honestly, as always when you read a book by this author, I was enthralled from the beginning(and I read it lots of times)
These books just get better and better, and I’ll be biting my nails until the next.

Skimmed DNF, ends on a cliff hanger with no conclusion in sight for the foreseeable future according to authors FB post. Seems to be dark and well written. I don’t read duets and trilogies that are incomplete. Authors should just write a complete book like back in the olden days when we walked 10 miles to school in the driving snow!🤣

Sweet holy titfire...

This author has been my favorite discovery of 2020. There is a level of depravity juxtaposed with morality that continues to blow my mind with her stories. Even though the deviance of the characters is intense, it isn't just black or white in regards to why they do the things that they do. This book was a perfect example of that.

I don't even need to warn about the trigger events in this story. If someone is a fan of this author then they already know what she is capable of writing. If they are new to her, then heed the warnings she gives because I will be pretty angry if some pearl-clutcher reads this anyway and then leaves a bad review. This author pours her blood, sweat, and tears into creating a book that leaves her audience teetering on the precipice of shark-infested waters and it shows how insanely talented she is with her craft. She makes her audience feel uncomfortable all the while that she makes them keep turning the pages. That takes skill. Something, that she has in spades.

Max is the type of character that makes me read dark romance in the first place. He is dynamic and multi-faceted. Just because he could be likened to Satan or a sociopath doesn't mean that is all he is. and truth be told, he does have feelings and moments of remorse or reflection which is something that a sociopath would not. The many dimensions to his character are insane. I find myself wanting to climb in his head so I can make sense of the how and why's of what makes him tick. How does he process it and or compartmentalize it? Addison, sweet lord, the things that this girl has been through but yet still perseveres. There must be something to the way that she manages to filter her thoughts into boxes that doesn't permit it from making her broken. This is all she has known, which is both sad and helpful, in her current predicament and the one she shared with Max.

I loved seeing a guest-appearance by another character that I really am drawn too as this person helps Max at a whopper of a cliffhanger. I wasn't expecting the twist of who it was. I can only imagine what Addison is going through and can only hope that her box compartmentalizing skills are on the top of her game because I feel like she is definitely going to need them.

I need part two like I need air. Highly recommend to anyone that loves dark, twisty, deviant, and depraved.
