The Red Wolf Saga #1

When the Red Wolf Runs

Rate this book
There are no wolves in Texas. At least, that's what I've been told my entire life. The truth is: no one's seen one since they went extinct in the wild twenty years ago.

No one except me.

This occurrence would be strange on any day. But minutes after I think I see a red wolf in the wild, a new family moves in across from me, and I meet none other than Jackson Meadows. He claims to be from out of town, but something tells me he and his single father hold a secret that goes back generations—and may change the town forever.

I wanted to like this book because I think the story could have been good, however it was rushed to much. I would have loved to see more backstory and more details in some of the scenes. Maybe even chapters from his perspective because we didn't get to learn about his side at all.
However, it did got me curious about how the story will continue.

Strange

Story, Oaklynn is a high school girl being bullied by a popular guy on football team. She's timid afraid of everything, except her friend and Jackson who just moved to Red Wolf. Oaklynns parents are killed in a fire, set by popular guys friends. Finds out Jackson Leon is a wolf. Oaklynn has a ritual and gets a wolf spirit. Gets a bad spirit wolf who kills everyone that was involved killing her parents. Does another ritual takes another wolf that's nice. Oaklynn still scared of everything. Red Wolves aren't allowed to defend themselves, Or hurt others no matter what, so weird these wolves are. Most don't want to be wolves . I truly don't know what else to say. I've never read a story like this. Wolves are very territorial, not in this book though. They very seldom act like wolves. Can't wrap my head around these books. But will read them all hoping it gets much better.

Somewhat mixed feelings about this one. A bit disjointed in parts, with things not making sense but it could be that these will be explained in a later story given it is a series. And all the characters seemed a bit flat - i think because most of the story is spent in Oaklynn's head so we don't really get a feel for them as individuals only as people Oak is telling us about. On the other hand I was interested in the story and where it was going and it kept me reading until the end. Unfortunately none of my questions were answered except the not important to the story but important to me question of whether kitty Belle would survive the arrival of the werewolves and Oaks bullies

Hmm?

Not my usual wolf story, which is okay if that’s your thing, but I read shifter stories for the fantasy, I’m not looking for normal, I want escapism. So story did not appeal to me for that reason. The second thing is too much in the mind of a teenager, yep don’t ever want to be in my mind when I was a teenager. And yeah, I’m reading YA, I just think the balance wasn’t there between being to much in her mind and exciting story line. I did finish the story so I’m definitely not saying it was a bad story, just not my style.

ENTERTAINING

I enjoyed the storyline. That being said, I had to go back to see if I had skipped paragraphs because all of the sudden there was a jump in the story. It was simple things like how did she get back to Jackson’s house after the ceremony? She didn’t even question where she was. There was a few places I had to reread a sentence to ascertain what the author was trying to say because of the ambiguity of the sentence. These were actually small problem which only slowed my enjoyment of of the story. I really enjoyed the book.

I saw this book on Amozon free books. After reading this book, I thought I would give it a try because it reminded me of Little Red Ridding hood. After reading this book, I think the book is okay but I will not be reading the next book. I could tell what was going to happen in the book after the second chapter.

The book goes over a lot of issuses, like bullying, race, social class and more. I think this book would be good for teenagers. The book shows how people can deal with different issues. The book as talks about about feels.

not my favorite.

It starts out decent… small town bullied girl meets werewolf but things keep going bad for her… blah blah blah. No emotion connects with the MC. You never find out why she is the target of everyone’s bullying… which is weird as she doesn’t seem to be different enough for the bullying, never mind the attempt on her life… just feels empty without that I guess. I’ll pass on the series.

when the Red Wolf Runs (The Red Wolf Saga Book 1)

I enjoyed the reading the book, the story was very compelling, and at the same time showing the “bad characters” a little bit at time. You have your guesses who it is or are but. Unfortunately you have to get the next book to find out if you have guessed right and how the heroine will handle the changes in her life and how she will turn out because of them.

A-young girl reeling from one tragedy after another

This was a well thought out story about a young girls coming of age only to befall into one tragedy after another and overcome with grief and only think of revenge. I was disappointed with the ending only to find I would have to buy the next book

A girl greets a new neighbor. Red wolves have been killed off. Some like to kill. Disappointed as the book ended half completed and vengeance desire seems very flat. Read Kindle book using Alexa audio asset. Unlikely to pay $4.95 to read the sequel. Purchased this edition on September 23, 2021, for free.

I was not sure about this book when I started it. It has good parts for sure. But some parts just make you scratch your head. I wish they had done a little more background to the characters and not rushed the time line.

Loved it

This book started a bit slow for me but soon picked up its ace…
So much going on yet, but from where and who…. One can guess and some leads are there, but I’m not sure if all is as it seems…
Can’t wait to continue with the series….

Interesting start

Interesting start to book 1 and a new way if looking at the werewolf dynamics. I'm curious and interested in seeing how the rest of the story and series plays out.

Interesting high school angst story, another shy teenage girl with anxiety problems, and a school bully or a family of bullies who create amazing disaster for her. Too many typos, too many coincidences, too many hints that leave the reader hanging. I liked the wolf.

bad just bad

Makes no sense. The motivation for this one family causing problems for the main character is thin at best. I finally gave up I’m the last chapter when it was obvious just the cliffhanger for the next story. Seriously don’t waste your time.

Interesting

Good story. The heroine is a bit immature, but she IS young. You get to know her quite well; the author does a great job with that. I have to read the next book because I'm concerned about her state of mind and her choices. Worth the read!

The storyline is good but it lacks depth. A lot of places where I would have liked more detail. Teens and young adults may enjoy it but it didn't have what it takes to get me to buy the rest of the series.

Great storyline

But the editor/proofreader could use some help. There were so many contradicting sections only pages at part in some instances. I want to finish the series, but that's doubtful.

Intriguing

A very interesting story line with well developed characters. The overwhelming loss and rage make for a good setup for book 2.

This is a well written book. Keeps the reader interested so you don't want to put it down and has you wanting to read the next in the series.

Had interesting elements, but was pretty rushed. Never really explained why Easton hated the protagonist SO much, so that came across as far-fetched.

Started great. Then became a depressing story of teenage angst and revenge. I finished in a day because I was worried I would have nightmares from the plot.

wolf

Teen encounters a wolf pack and gets invited in. There is tragedy and bullying so not everything is a walk in the park.

Help me stop this madness.

Many twists and turns happen in this shifter story. Many of the not so good kind. Continued in next book.

The ending dropped the book for me. It wasn’t wrapped up at all. We have a setting, intro, rising action, climax and it ends no resolution at all 😢
