She built the Sweet Island Inn. But can Toni Benson build a life of happiness for herself?
Toni Benson’s life has been a roller coaster. Years ago, the heartbreak caused by a cheating ex-husband left her in tatters. Then she discovered the run-down fixer-upper that would become the Sweet Island Inn. For a while, things were good. But when her brother Henry’s tragic death sends her reeling all over again, she is back to square one.
So she sets off on an overseas journey, in hopes of learning from scratch what kind of woman she is meant to be. She wasn’t looking for love. But it found her anyway.
Follow Toni’s journey as the Nantucket native navigates an explosive romance, an unbearable tragedy, and the prospect of starting life anew in her late fifties. In the end, only one thing is there is no love like her love for Nantucket.
Travel back to the very beginnings of the Sweet Island Inn and follow along with the soaring highs and heartbreaking lows of Aunt Toni’s story in No Love Like Nantucket, the fourth installment of author Grace Palmer’s beloved Sweet Island Inn series.
Grace Palmer grew up in the Northeast but moved down south to Charleston, South Carolina to escape the brutal winters. Her and her husband run an Airbnb on the beach and have 2 sassy cats, Mickey and Mousy, who boss around a golden retriever named Taco.
She writes feel good romances that are clean, wholesome, and inspirational. Cozy up by your fireplace or lounge out on the beach and settle in because her books are un-putdownable.
Enjoyed the story line. But, if you are setting the story on Nantucket, at least get the location of the island correct. Nantucket is 30 miles off the coast of Massachusetts not Maine as stated in the story line. Very disappointing.
No Love Like Nantucket: Sweet Island Inn Book 4 is by Grace Palmer. This book slightly changes gears and deals with Henry’s sister, Toni. Toni has been married to Jared and lives off-island. However, her heart has remained on Nantucket. Toni has a weird feeling about her marriage, something is different but she can’t figure out what. She would like to surprise Jared with weekend get-away on the 4th of July weekend. She knows he doesn’t like surprises so she had talked to him about going away and he agreed. She had made all the arrangements and now was headed home to catch him at lunch with an ice cream cake shaped like a cabin. However, her plans were dashed as was the cake when she arrived to find Jared in a compromising position with his secretary, Heather. Her marriage, her dreams were smashed. Knowing she had to get away before saying something horrible, she left the house and headed for the airport and Nantucket. The story changes at this point and alternates between the events in 2000 and eighteen years later in 2018. Now the event that changes things is her brother’s death. Henry died in a storm while he was fishing. Now Toni and her sister-in-law, Mae, are left with the grief. Toni made a decision to leave Nantucket and leave the inn in Mae’s hands. She headed to the airport and purchased a one-way ticket to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Maybe she can restart her life so she can return and handle everything.
Toni's journey was an alright read but after she finds her husband with another women and she leaves him. She goes forward taking time for herself in another country. She meets new people and spends a few months away from home and meets a nice man, then runs from him. Mean while we bounce back home to the time before Toni left her home. Then we go back to her life in the other country with the nice man and new friends and we continually bounce from the past to the future then back to the past. And you never find out what happened to the nice man she met in the other country.
How many stars one can give to a book which is not a book but a string of events? Maximum one. No real plot, no conclusion. Many unexplained background events just tossed in. Maybe those happened in the series from 1 to 3 but I’m not interested in reading then books like this. I downloaded it because it was free and I thought I’d read a “light one” for a change but this was not even light reading, it was nothing. I should not even include it in my reading challenge.
I received an ARC from Grace Palmer for an honest review. This book was a rollercoaster ride. Toni Benson is in her 50's and after finding her husband cheating she left him and went home to Nantucket. She found a run-down fixer-upper and bought it and turned it into the Sweet Island Inn. But when her brother Henry died, it sent her reeling and she decides to set out on an overseas journey to discover who she is meant to be. As her journey unfolds we learn many things about her as she discovers things about herself. When Toni came back to Nantucket, she felt a new kinship to her niece, Sara. She felt there was more than don't tell me what to do going on. So she asked herself what did Sarah want. Then she had to ask herself what did she want. Then she had a talk with Sara about just something she had to say and Saah had to hear. She told her she should do what she wanted to do but for the right reasons and she should listen to others and think about what they are telling her. Remember her Mom loved her and only wants what is best for her. So most of the time she should listen to her Mom. But at the end of the day, it really is up to her to be in charge of herself. It is really easy to give that up without even realizing it but it is way harder to get it back once it has been given away. Toni learned a lot after having that talk with her niece and many times we do learn lots of things from a child. This book is Toni's journey, it is heartfelt, honest, and sometimes no matter what age you are, you have to step back and find out who you are meant to be.
Once again, I enjoyed this book in the Sweet Island Inn series. In this story, we learned why Toni left abruptly from her Inn on Nantucket. Toni’s marriage crumbled suddenly in Atlanta, she walked out of her home, leaving her husband after he betrayed her. Toni escaped to her place of comfort, home in Nantucket. With the support of her brother, her sister-in-law Mae, and their four children, Toni builds a new life for herself. It is not until her brother’s sudden death that leaves Toni heartbroken and grieving. Toni leaves her Inn in Mae’s hands and travels to Argentina. After a long day of travel, Toni confronts a man who is wheeling away her luggage in an ugly exchange. Toni later meets this man at a dance class. Nicolas and Toni develop a relationship, one that Toni is unsure of but over time falls in love with him and he with her. Again, Toni doesn’t trust her gut and runs away fleeing Argentina for Portugal. Nicolas later tracks Toni down, and professes his love and gives her the letters he wrote her every day since she left. Nicolas gives her time to trust her heart and that their love is real. I enjoyed going back in time learning Toni’s past with her husband, and unexpected twists. It was an enjoyable story about family support, heartbreak, and love found. I would recommend any of the books that Grace Palmer has written, always refreshing.
This is book four in The Sweet Island Inn series and it is Toni's story. Toni has gone through so much in her life, her husband cheated on her and her brother Henry dies and so she decided to buy a inn and fix it up but she was so restless after everything that had happened so she decided to go on a journey to find herself and what she wanted out of life but will it work out or will she come back worse than she was before. Wow I love this book so much with all its twists and turns and it takes you on a journey of life's ups and downs and struggles. I have read every single book in this series and I have enjoyed reading every single one. Grace Palmer is a brilliant author and writer and I definitely recommend you read this book and series and you will not be disappointed. I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy of this book.
July 2-July 4, 2000 Nantucket, MA --------------- April 6, 2018 Nantucket, MA
May 5- December 31, 2018 Buenos Aires, Argentina
Half of this book takes place before the series starts, and the other half takes place during the first book. This time the narrator is Henry's sister Toni. She wasn't around much in the other books in the series. Mostly she was just mentioned now and then. This book is about her grief and new beginnings. First with the end of her marriage, and then with the death of her brother. This also tells the story of the inn that Mae runs throughout the series.
Despite the back and forthing between two defining life events, this story did not lose track. The characters are limited but well developed and the story speaks to how life shapes us. I did have a take away from this story, "You are not defined by your losses", and as someone who had to redefine herself after the passing of spouse and the nest emptying, this was quite poignant. Could have used this a few years earlier, but better late than never.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I like learning about Toni's backstory, and her adventures in Argentina. However, I struggled a bit with the time jumps between past and current day in the book. Another struggle I had was just how much mourning Tori is going through with the loss of her brother. I can completely understanding mourning a sibling, but the way I interpreted it almost felt more like mourning a spouse which felt wrong (that's just my own view). All in all its a nice light read, I appreciated learning how the inn came to be, but it was nothing particularly fascinating nor attention grabbing.
After years of marriage Toni discovers her husband is cheating on her so she leaves him and returns to her safe haven Nantucket. She gets a fresh start and buys an inn and fixes it up and renames it the Sweet Island Inn. Everything around her is changing and she needs to figure out if she is going to change with it or go in a different direction. I enjoyed this heartwarming story. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved the continuation of the Benson family. This book focused on Aunt Toni while she was married and found her husband cheating on her. She flew back to home on Nantucket. The book then goes between the past when she was healing from her broken marriage and flips to Toni going overseas to heal after her brothers death. I feel the book has left you hanging in a way to see what else happens with Toni. Great read and a very enjoyable book
I really liked this book it was about Toni who in th beginning had a shock then she ran a Bed And Breakfast on Nantucket for years after her brother died tragedy she had to leave and go on a adventure in goes back and forth before she ran her business and to the present in another country. Looking forward to book 5. You will love this book especially if your reading all the books in this series.
What is it with all the cliffhangers these days? I found the endless time travel annoying but figured it would all lead to some great mid -life epiphany. Nope. It led to a swift precipice of unanswered questions.
If you can't tell a story within a book, at least have the courtesy to proclaim up front, "I'm just laying the foundation so you're on the hook for another book (or six) ." Harumpf.
While I have enjoyed this series, No Love Like Nantucket has very little to do with Nantucket. I’m 60% through and the main character,Toni, returned briefly at this point. Most of her time has been in Buenos Aires,Argentina where the official language is Portuguese, not Spanish. 98% of the population speaks Portuguese as their first language. The author repeatedly says they’re speaking Spanish. The author could done some research. Hopefully the next 40% to be read goes better.
This is a story of heartbreak and loss and finding love when not expected. The author takes you on an emotional journey through Toni's life in this emotional read. It's well written with vividly painted scenes, moves fluidly and is another great read by Grace Palmer.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I found this story to be so emotionally gripping. This is so much more then just starting the Inn, Toni returns home because she is lost, devastated but she sees a chance to start over. When she find Nicholas she is only looking for fun, she plans on going back to Nantucket, falling in love could change her plans.
I was very disappointed. I loved the first 3 books and was looking forward to more of the same. In the first 3 books, Toni was just a character on the side. I didn’t need to read a full book about her. I also didn’t like going back and forth between Atlanta/Nantucket and Argentina/ Lisbon. Bring back the Benson family.
This was a book in the series that made it possible to get to know the owner of the inn, Toni. She loses her brother & decides to travel & asks her brother’s widow to run the inn in her absence. Toni finally decides she wants to return to Nantucket. She meets someone & falls in love. Will it last or will the waves on the beach wash the feelings away?
I overall liked this book. Very well written. Toni, for the most part I felt was passive. She didn't come into her own until after husband left her and she really had to.The only thing I didn't like, it's in third person . My least favorite narrative.
I didn’t want to like this book because I felt book three left me hanging but it grew on me. Unfortunately this one feels unfinished to me also. The storyline is good but Because of the way this series is written I can’t recommend them.
I love this series. It has humor and sadness. It depicts the feelings of the characters true to life. The author really connects the reader with every moment in the book!
I have truly enjoyed reading each of your stories! I'm now looking forward to your next series, although I shall miss those I've met in this series. Thank you again MS Grace Palmer.
It broke my heart while reading how her husband cheated on her, the death of her brother. Although her sad experiences were heart breaking I was disappointed because there was no info about her cheating husband, how did the divorce went through, and how her brother died???
Life takes us on various turns... some are voluntary and some happen beyond our control. This book takes us on the up and down journey in the life of a smart woman who learns something new throughout her life.
I enjoyed reading this book! Clean language, np blatant sex! The characters are well developed & believable!I'. The plot was dfferent! This is a love story of middle aged people! I don't think it would be r enjoyed by teenagers, But older women should like it!
Two parallel stories, same character, 18 years apart. Nothing compelling. Characters felt flat. Thought I was breaking up some "heavy" reading with a light beach read. Didn't work for me. Perhaps if I'd read the previous 3 Sweet Island Inn books??
This novelvwas writen well, but not my kind of story. I'm glad I read this as I've enjoyed the series so far and I found it interesting to learn more about Aunt Toni. I just do not care for love story's . ok read
Didn't care for this story skipped a lot of the description. I wished there was more about her returning to Nantucket and getting the b&b going and not about leaving to travel after her brothers death. Also it kept saying Nantucket Maine but I thought Nantucket was Massachusetts?
