As a half German growing up with a German Mama and Omi, I am very picky about what qualifies as "German food" in the US. I liked the book and found similarities in my Omi's cooking even though I am sure the author and her aren't from the same area. I finally found a Schwarzwälder Kirschtore" I want to try to bake.

I always find it interesting to read about another country's food. The recipes are all fairly easy and I'm planning on making some spaetzle soon!

My daughter pulled this off the children’s library cookbook shelf. We enjoyed it, particularly the extra cultural info. Saved a few recipes to try too! Sauerbraten was quite good; parsley potatoes were bland, but I can tweak the recipe next time. Served with a red cabbage recipe similar to the book 👌🏼

Seemingly easy selection of German recipes. Includes sections on country and customs, cooking tips, and gorgeous photos. Tempted to make: New Year's Pork and Kraut, One-Pot Meal with Chicken, Open-Faced Sandwiches, Hot Potato Salad, Heaven and Earth, Black Forest Torte, and Apple Cake.
